Iranian Norwegian CONFESS to Release New Album “Destination Addiction”, New Single + Video ‘Slaughterhouse’ Out Now

CONFESS, the Iranian-Norwegian metallers who have been making waves following on from the success of their widely praised 2022 album “Revenge At All Costs” have returned with a brand new album, “Destination Addiction”, set for release on January 31st, 2025!

Ahead of this, the band have released their new single ‘Slaughterhouse’.

Speaking about the track, frontman Nikan Khosravi has said:
“‘Slaughterhouse’ is one of the most aggressive songs I have ever written, and it will set the tone for listeners regarding what they are going to hear on this album! With a very scary death/groove tone, this song presents a very messed-up, twisted fantasy that comes from the mind of a creature that can be seen as a mash-up of Jeffrey Dahmer and Leatherface.

It deals with brutally killing to take revenge, but it also explores the belief that these actions are all happening inside his mind, with the victim trapped within him forever. I had never written anything like this before, from the perspective of a serial killer. I allowed myself to paint an alarming image in a super heavy death/groove metal style while envisioning my interrogator in my head.”

Produced by Khosravi, and mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated Alberto De Icaza (Amon Amarth, Clutch, Miss May I, Dead Cross, Upon A Burning Body) “Destination Addiction” is set to land at a critical point in human history. Given the escalating conflicts across the middle east and between Ukraine and Russia, Confess’ intention with “Destination Addiction” is to ask the question “What happens when you’ve survived things that no-one should have to?” Too often this question ends in dismal fashion, be it suicide, substance abuse, declining mental health, or worse.

Speaking about the album, Nikan has said:
“With “Destination Addiction”, we aimed to channel our personal experiences and the turbulent times we live in into something musically innovative and brutally honest. This album is a testament to our resilience and passion for metal. “Destination Addiction” delves deep into themes of isolation, depression, addiction, and suicidal thoughts, reflecting our harrowing experiences following their arrest in 2015 and life in exile and I can say that this album is way darker than “Revenge At All Costs”!

The lyrical content offers a raw and critical perspective on the political and social turmoil in Iran as well as the broader global climate, addressing the Women, Life, Freedom movement in Iran, the war in the Middle East and Europe, and the dangers of terrorism in today’s world. This album is the aftermath of “Revenge At All Costs”!”

Nikan further commented on getting to work with extreme metal luminaries George Kollias (Nile) and Marzi Montazeri (ex-Phil Anselmo and Illegals, ex-Superjoint Ritual, ex-Exhorder, Heavy As Texas) on this record:
“Working with George Kollias has elevated our sound and added a lot of depth and texture to the record. Marzi Montazeri’s contribution to ‘After Goliath’ has provided a dynamic edge.”

The tracklisting for the album is:
1. Built On A Grave
2. Slaughterhouse
3. Expedition
4. Dark On Both Sides
5. Suicide Song
6. Final Lap
7. After Goliath
8. Origami God
9. Only Shackles To Lose
10. Breathe In. Breathe Out.

Formed in 2010 in Tehran, Iran, the band’s ideology reflects the experiences of living under a theoretical political system, combining critiques of organized religion with commentary on sociopolitical issues and personal struggles. Their debut album, “Beginning of Dominion”, was released on January 1st, 2012. By 2014, Confess had released four singles and an EP titled “Back to My Future [2/4]”. The single ‘Encase Your Gun’ emerged after the Iranian regime suppressed the Green Movement in 2009.

On October 28, 2015, just two weeks after releasing their second album, “In Pursuit of Dreams”, frontman Nikan Khosravi and DJ Arash Ilkhani were arrested by the Revolutionary Guards. They faced charges of blasphemy and propaganda against the state due to their music and interviews. After spending three months in solitary confinement and 15 months in public prison, they were released temporarily on bail pending trial. Initially sentenced to six years each, they appealed the verdict.

Due to ongoing threats, Nikan fled to Turkey in 2017. In December 2018 he was granted political asylum in Norway. Arash joined him in May 2019 after also seeking asylum in Turkey. In July 2019, in their absence, an appeal court sentenced Nikan to 12 and a half years in prison plus 74 lashes and Arash to two years in prison.

Upon settling in Norway, Confess experimented with seven-string guitars and modern death metal sounds while retaining their signature groove. In 2022, they welcomed three new members and began touring without fear. They released their third album, “Revenge at All Costs”, on January 21, 2022, inspired by their struggles and experiences. The album received critical acclaim, earning high ratings from several metal publications and saw the band featured in prominent media outlets like Sky News, The Guardian and BBC.

In September 2022, Confess signed a worldwide management deal with Extreme Management Group in New York. They continued to face challenges from the Iranian regime, including social media attacks, but remained inspired and productive. They supported Nile on their European tour, performing across 11 countries and 16 cities, solidifying their presence in the global metal scene. In September 2024 Confess supported Belphegor and Malevolent Creation on their European run before appearing at the Vagos Metal Fest in Portugal and Viborg Metal Fest in Denmark. “Destination Addiction” is set for release on January 31st, 2025.

WARDRUNA’s New, Skaldic Composition ‘Hibjørnen’ Attunes One’s Senses to Nature

Norwegian world music collective WARDRUNA is releasing the skaldic composition “Hibjørnen”, taking on the perspective of the hibernating bear. Through his never resting dialogue with nature, main composer Einar Selvik has been searching for the voice of the bear, resulting in Wardruna’s sixth studio album “Birna”. The record is scheduled for release January 24, 2025 through Sony Music and By Norse Music.

By comparison to the rich and detailed polyphonic compositions across Wardruna’s new album Birna, the song “Hibjørnen” (The Hibearnator), takes a simpler and more direct approach, reminiscent of the music on Skald (2018). On “Hibjørnen” voice, poetry and the lyre lead the way, offering a contemporary take on the ancient skaldic craft that once lay at the heart of Norse oral traditions.

The song is out on all digital streaming platforms HERE.

The video was produced by Ragnarok Film and will be premiered via YouTube today on Sunday, October 27 at 7 PM CET HERE.

Einar Selvik comments: “The rhythm of the bear embodies the very circle of life: When winter approaches, it goes to sleep in its den – back to the womb; its pulse slowing, its body encapsulated in an intermediate death. Like a lullaby, “Hibjørnen” takes on the perspective of the hibernating bear and its dormant dreams from inside the den. The listener returns from the den of the bear more attuned, aware and contemplative of nature’s wonders, just in time for the freshly sprung buds.”

This cyclical nature of the bear, so embedded both in nature and the worldview of older cultures, drives Einar Selvik’s creative work.

Birna – the she-bear in Old Norse – is a work of art dedicated to the warden of the forest, nature’s caretaker, and her battles here on earth. Slowly driven out of her habitat by modern day societies, she has entered a stage of permanent hibernation. As a result, the forest is gradually dying, longing for its pulseand heart – its shepherd. Birna calls for her return.

Birna nurtures the insight that has been at the core of Selvik’s philosophy right from the start: sowing new seeds whilst strengthening old roots. Instruments and wisdom from ancient times, coupled with modern day soundscapes and recorded sounds of nature, provide a rare opportunity to tell us something valuable about ourselves. It works as a reminder that we are part of nature, not above it, and it offers a way of remembering, not for memory’s own sake, but to gain both new and forgotten insights.

Along with the new album comes the recorded show of Wardruna’s unique equinox performance at the world heritage site Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Acropolis, Athens.
Spanning over two hours, the show featured outstanding live performances of songs from the group’s discography, such as Helvegen, Kvitravn, Heimta Thurs and Lyfjaberg.

The new album and the DVD/Blu-ray are available for pre-ordering here.

Tracklist:
1. Hertan
2. Birna
3. Ljos til Jord

6. Himinndotter

SEETHING AKIRA Celebrate New Album “Cancel Estate” Release with ‘IXNAY’ Video

Following on from the release of their critically acclaimed ‘Nozomi’, Seething Akira have released their blistering new album ‘Cancel Estate, out now.

Buy and order at:

Seething Akira are a band built on the foundations of connection, sharing something special with a stranger and forming a bond that lasts a lifetime. Taking the most gloriously crushing parts of metalcore and joyfully triumphant elements of EDM and smashing them together with lashings of British grit, determination and cheek, they craft a uniquely vibrant experience. Delivering as many breakdowns that could cut diamonds as techno breaks that wouldn’t sound out of place in the clubs of Berlin, they strive to unite two worlds with more in common than many think.

Inspired by the swell of the pit as much as the heat of the dancefloor, movement is encouraged, but so is critical thought. Though the band’s music straddles the shoulders of the community proudly, it is when they are on stage together that it truly comes to life. They’ve shared their hopeful philosophy with everyone from Don Broco and Ingested to Skindred, Killswitch Engage and Sleep Token, as well as decimating stages at Download, Bloodstock and Victorious. And each performance they been a part of has been viewed as a blessing, a chance to change someone’s perspective with the euphoria they have forged. There is no barrier between the band and the crowd, they are one in these moments.

Watch ‘IXNAY’ here:

Seething Akira:
When did waking up with air in our lungs and blood in our veins stop being all we needed to know that life is wonderful?
At the end of everything, you won’t be thinking of the things you bought or the number of followers you had. You’ll be looking at the places you saw, the things you felt and the people you were with. That’s what this should all be about. It’s all this has ever been about. We just need a bit of reminding every now and then.

Seething Akira have made it their mission to be that reminder. That’s because they are a band built on the foundations of connection. Of sharing something special with a stranger and forming a bond that lasts a lifetime. It’s a sentiment that made them fall in love with heavy music in the first place, and since their inception in 2017, they have been striving to leave their mark on the genre in the same way their heroes have.

The future is more uncertain than it has ever been, but what we can control is the things that we stand for. As beautifully human as they are, they are wonderfully otherworldly; Seething Akira know who they are and what they believe now more than ever. Of what it means to make the most of our time and endeavour to make every moment one to remember. They want to be a flag in the ground for everybody else who feels the same. So, are you coming along for the ride?

10/10 – Emerging Rock Bands: “Nozomi – New metal masterpiece!” Devolution Magazine – “In Nozomi they’ve created something very special. What these six guys from Portsmouth have just produced is a contender for album of the year.”

Bloodstock Main Stage 2023: MetalTalk – “With their adrenaline-fuelled approach, they tore the Bloodstock arena apart, and the masses responded in kind with pits and circles aplenty.”

Dark Arts Conspiracy: “They are a band that need to be seen to be believed, especially in the live environment, where they truly thrive, being in their element. It’s no surprise that they have already supported the likes of Skindred, Hacktivist and Don Broco.“

Upcoming shows:
1st Nov, Rabidfest, The Night Before, Jericho Tavern, Oxford
3rd Nov, Guildhall, Portsmouth
8th Nov, The Lounge Bar, Alton
4th April 2025, Takedown Festival, Portsmouth

Polish ASGAARD Return with New EP “Lullabies for Harlots”, First Song ‘Lullaby’ Out Now

Polish ASGAARD were formed in 1994. Within 30 years of existence on Polish metal scene, as a band, they have been on a musical journey starting with a symphonic mix of gothic and black metal, revealing a more progressive visage in 2022, up to the current acoustic prog rock combined with electronic music.

Always at the forefront of the avant-garde, often ahead of their musical peers, forward-thinking
and not afraid of pushing boundaries, ASGAARD needs no further introduction. Metamorphosis, constant evolution and stylistic unpredictability – amalgamation of these three phrases has become signature quality of Asgaard’s body of work.

“Lullabies for Harlots” EP is the band’s newest offering and a follow-up to a critically acclaimed
7th full-length album “What if…”. Delving even deeper into the universe of dark electronic music
ASGAARD returns with what is to believed to be their most experimental work up to date. Two brand new tracks with an exceptional cover of Behemoth’s “Antichristian Phenomenon” topped with the previously unavailable on a physical format acoustic renditions of three songs taken from the “What if….” album. The band again taps Bartłomiej Trzos, a renowned and award-winning graphic designer, to create the EP’s cover artwork as well as its design and layout.

“When it comes to the ‘Lullaby’, well… I guess this song purely defines what Asgaard is all about.
‘Unpredictability’ may be a good word down here. Besides, this is one of the most beautiful lullabies that you’ve ever heard in your entire life” – jokes Quazarre, the vocalist of the band.

Tracklist:

1. Lullaby
2. Mother of Harlots
3. Antichristian Phenomenon (Behemoth cover)
4. Sny na jawie (acoustic version)
5. What if… (acoustic version)
6. W sercu nieswiata (acoustic version)

New EP titled “Lullabies for Harlots” will be released on November 29, 2024, on physical format by Via Nocturna (pre-order) and digitally via WormHoleDeath Records/The Orchard/Sony Music Entertainment. Band photo by Diana Sawicka.

Listen to the song “Lullaby“:

Line-up:

Przemysław “Quazarre” Olbryt – vocals
Bartłomiej “Hetzer” Kostrzewa – acoustic guitars
Wojciech “Flumen” Kostrzewa – synthesizers, upright piano, brush snare, percussions, loops & fx
Guest:
Przemysław Nowak – additional synth and programming on “Antichristian Phenomenon”

CENTINEX Drop ‘As You Die’ Single w/ Music Video

Legendary Swedish death metallers Centinex unleashed their “As You Die” single, accompanied by a music video. Featuring two brand-new tracks, the single carves out a fresh path for the band, infusing death ‘n’ roll fury while retaining their signature raw, aggressive extremity. These songs provide a glimpse into their highly anticipated 2025 album, set for release via Black Lion Records.

States Centinex bassist Martin Schulman:
“Times change and so do Centinex. Our ‘As You Die’ single in a way represents a new beginning for the band, not only by working with new business partners but also by exploring a somewhat new musical direction.

“As previously mentioned, we have always been about not setting boundaries or limiting ourselves, and these two new tracks might be the clearest example of that.

“Maybe we are getting old or something, dunno… Anyway, let’s fu**ing rock!”

Watch the Video for “As You Die,” below; Find the single —alongside its galloping B-side, “Into Ashes”— on all major digital/streaming platforms as of October 25 RIGHT HERE.

The 4-panel digipak CD is set to arrive on November 8 via Black Lion Records and will be available for order through various distributors, including Sound Pollution and its partners in Europe, Plastic Head in the UK, and Indiemerch in the USA.

Produced by Centinex, “As You Die” is recorded, mixed and mastered at Wellbay Studios during March 2024 by Johan Hjelm and Centinex. Cover art was executed by Chainsaw Design.

Centinex originated in 1990 as a riff-oriented part of the classic Swedish death metal movement and disbanded in 2005 after releasing eight full-length albums. In 2014, they resurfaced, quite surprisingly, and with a refreshed line-up, delivered their celebrated come-back record, Redeeming Filth. The next album was inevitable and didn’t take another decade to assemble. Having released Doomsday Rituals in 2016, the band played a run of shows in Europe and North America, before encapsulating their sheer Swedish brutality on a new offering. Death In Pieces, the long-runner’s third reunion album, brims with a powerful dose of old-school, Stockholm-style death metal, pushing their signature heavy riffing to a new level of intensity. The Pestilence EP followed, representing a slight shift by incorporating old-school thrash influences and marking a new chapter in the band’s history.

Centinex embarked on a headlining European tour from May to July 2024. With their double-track single “As You Die” released digitally on October 25 (and a physical release set for November 8), Centinex is gearing up to release their 12th full-length album in 2025 via Black Lion Records. Catch them live at Athens Extreme Festival on 15 December 2024.

Band Lineup:
Henka Andersson – vocals | Jörgen Kristensen – guitars | Martin Schulman – bass | Florian Rehn – drums

VON HERTZEN BROTHERS’ New Album “In Murmuration” Out Now

Finland’s celebrated Von Hertzen Brothers have released their highly anticipated ninth studio album, In Murmuration.

Guitarist/vocalist Mikko comments on the release: “The shapes and the overall tone of the musical content on this album could be a bit surprising to some of our newer followers, but not to those who have been listening to us from the beginning. Musically speaking, we have proudly carried the cloaks of ‘prog-wizards’ for the last two albums, but what has not been so widely discussed lately is our ability to write good pop choruses and great catchy rock anthems with good vibes. We felt like it was now time to bring forth that side of us once again.

“The lyrical themes still deal with the everyday struggles of being humans in this f*cked up world, it’s a source that keeps on giving, but we wanted to step out of the forest and into the sunlight to mingle, discuss and celebrate. We live in an age of constant change where everyone is trying to find a secure footing in life, sometimes full of joy and sometimes filled with utter disappointment. Amid all that, the trick is to stay alert and lean to one another. Like starlings in murmuration. After the pandemic, and now as the world has once again opened, we have somehow felt lighter in our everyday lives. We acknowledge the contradiction of course, since the world with its horrors hasn’t changed much… It would have been easy to drown in those doomsday moods, but writing these songs we felt the need to tackle these problems from a more forgiving and positive standpoint.”

Order In Murmuration here: https://linktr.ee/VonHertzenBrothers

Tracklist:

1. The Relapse
2. A Good Life
3. Starlings
4. Ascension Day
5. Beneath the Silver Stars
6. Tightrope Walker
7. The Change
8. Separation
9. Snowstorm
10. Wait for Me

New album In Murmuration follows the profound and epic journey of their acclaimed, pandemic-era masterpiece Red Alert in the Blue Forest (2022).

In Murmuration is released on Von Hertzen Brothers’ own label, DoingBeingMusic, on limited-edition crystal-clear vinyl gatefold LP, CD and digital. Merch bundles will be available from the band’s website.

Von Hertzen Brothers will play album launch shows in Finland and the UK at the end of 2024 before returning to the UK, Europe and the US, including Cruise to the Edge in spring 2025.

Confirmed dates are as follows:
Nov 09: Helsink (FI) Tavastia (album release show)
Nov 16: Tampere (FI) Olympia (album release show)
Nov 28: Troon (UK) Winter Storm Festival
Nov 29: Buckley (UK) The Tivoli
Nov 30: Trecco (UK) Bay Planet Rockstock
Dec 02: London (UK) The Garage

In true Von Hertzen Brothers style, In Murmuration creatively juxtaposes the band’s previous release. Whilst their imaginative, multi-genre hard rock and harmonies remain, the band’s artistic pendulum has swung more towards an air of optimism and renewal. The result is a work filled with big choruses, stadium rock anthems, art-rock with 90s vibes and catchy power-pop.

Whilst the themes within the album may not be as deliberately opinionated as on previous releases Red Alert in the Blue Forest and War is Over, there is a naturally occurring sense of constant change throughout. Precise and intriguing observations on the global political landscape, the tricky human relationships of this age, resilience and personal growth all provide lyrical subject matter. The first half of the album embodies a transformation of mood, bringing forth some positivity and love, and the second half journeys through challenging relationships, a literal call for change, separation, loss, longing and a final resolution.

From the anthemic opener to the reflective closer, In Murmuration ebbs and flows much like the starlings after which it is named.

The instrumentation on this album has also evolved. The three brothers Mikko, Kie and Jonne, with drummer Sami Kuoppamäki, are joined by multi-instrumentalist Markus Pajakkala, who performed with the brothers on their acoustic tour in 2023. Notable for his saxophone solo on 2022’s ‘Peace Patrol’, Markus brings a new dynamic to the album. Guests on the album include a gospel ensemble and the Budapest Art Orchestra.

Now in their 23rd year, Von Hertzen Brothers have consistently delivered music on their own terms and In Murmuration is no exception. This is their third self-produced album, the others being the award-winning Approach (2006) and War is Over (2017).

Von Hertzen Brothers are:
Mikko von Hertzen – vocals, guitars
Kie von Hertzen –  guitars, vocals
Jonne von Hertzen – bass, keyboards, vocals
Sami Kuoppamäki – drums
Markus Pajakkala – keyboards, woodwind
