Arizona’s powerhouse trio, WEAPON OF PRIDE, has joined forces with Wormholedeath Records for the release of their album, Beneath the Surface, dropping on December 13th, 2024.

Weapon of Pride, a power trio from Phoenix, Arizona, has captivated audiences with their heavy riffs, thrashy tempos, and old-school vibe. Their discography includes the debut EP Retribution (2021) and the full-length album Taking Over (2023). Now, they’re gearing up to release their second album with WORMHOLEDEATH Records later this year.

Inspired by Stoner and Thrash Metal giants, Weapon of Pride blends Heavy, Thrash, Progressive, and Stoner Metal. The band features brothers Ryan Arnold (bass/vocals) and Logan Arnold (guitar), with Adam Duplack on drums.

Known for their high-energy performances, Weapon of Pride also extends their creativity into immersive music videos, enhancing their storytelling. Their single “Retribution” propelled them to the forefront of the Arizona scene, earning them a spot on local rock radio station 98 KUPD and the opportunity to write the morning show theme song, “The Morning Sickness.”

MELANIE’s CHARMING DISASTER Says ‘Aloha’ to Lucifer This Halloween

The late Melanie described “Aloha Lucifer” as “Such a happy song, because even the Devil probably needs to take a summer vacation.”

Well yes. Especially with Halloween just around the corner.

Sadly, Melanie did not live to record a full studio version of the song. But she did tape a great “live in the studio” version, and as the end of October draws closer and we find ourselves missing already those hazy days of summer, what better way of kicking back on the beach than to hear what transpired when Charming Disaster turned their attention towards it.

Or, if you prefer, here’s what happens when one of the most innovative singer-songwriters of the last 50 years met one of the most spellbinding acoustic goth-folk-cabaret duos ever to walk the earth.

Five albums old (with a sixth underway), Charming Disaster were formed in Brooklyn, NY, in 2012 by Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris. Best described as a cross between Edward Gorey’s drawings, Tim Burton’s movies and the murder ballads of Americana tradition, their music is packed with death, crime, myth, magic, folklore, science, and the occult.

Again, who better to bring fresh life to “Aloha Lucifer”?

“We really thought of this as a collaboration with Melanie,” say Charming Disaster, “and we approached the song a bit the way we do when we collaborate with each other as songwriters, which is to say: what do we think this song needs, how can we best serve it and make it shine? 

“The original version of ‘Aloha Lucifer,’ as Melanie performed it live in 2020, had a classic folk-style chord progression that we thought would be interesting to revisit and reinvent. 

“To give the song a new sound and make it a bit more unexpected, we found a different chord progression that still fit under Melanie’s original vocal melody — which was sort of like solving a puzzle, or turning the music 90 degrees. It was exciting to bring something new to her song in this way. Her phrasing and lyrical style are so unique and sometimes whimsical, and we really wanted to support that.”

“Aloha Lucifer” is not Charming Disaster’s sole contribution to Halloween this year.  A three song EP fittingly titled Dance Me to the End of Bela Lugosi’s Lovesong will be along in time for the big day, and the duo have also lined up a string of gigs to coincide.

SOULS OF DIOTIMA Announce Luca Manca, as New Bassist

Italian female fronted metallers SOULS OF DIOTIMA have a huge pleasure to announce Luca Manca, as their new bass player:

Luca is not only a great musician but he has a humanity and a sensitivity that struck us from the first meeting, an aspect that is really important to us. Just recently Fabio “The Black Mask” Puddu, band’s guitarist revealed the first interesting details:
“We felt the need to give a new breath of fresh air to our genre, trying to make it more modern with dark sounds, full of power and lower tunings, without abandoning our stylistic imprint which is the one that allowed the band to earn an important place in the panorama of the world metal scene!! We are constantly working on the composition of new songs even before entering the studio to record the latest single ‘Another Day in Paradise’ by our producer Oscar Nilsson! We already have some tracks ready and we are really satisfied with the work done so far.. we can’t wait to finish the album to leave you speechless!!”

Earlier this year, SOULS OF DIOTIMA released their surprise single for Phil Collins’ ‘Another Day In Paradise’, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their artistic career!

These are the band’s words about the single: “This single is a kind of bonus and will not be contained in our next album, so it is a stand-alone release just to celebrate our 20th anniversary and surprise our fans in the meantime when we are working on our fifth album.”

The single of “Another Day in Paradise” released via Diotima Records Music Management Ltd and distributed by Blood Blast Distribution, was produced at Crehate Studios in Gothenburg by Oscar Nilsson with the help of Simon Eliasson. The Souls of Diotima were formed by Giorgio Pinna and his brother in Sassari, Italy in 2004 and have released four studio albums and a single under three different labels worldwide.

Souls of Diotima is a band with a unique style, characterized by recognizable elements of traditional, progressive and symphonic metal, as well as unconventional elements, woven musically in a new and highly expressive way. The band’s music engages all the senses and conveys a feeling similar to watching an epic film, creating strong visual scenes and almost tangible mental images. The defining characteristic of Souls of Diotima is its style, which recalls Mediterranean atmospheres and traditions. In fact, the band hails from Sardinia, an island in the center of the Mediterranean Sea. This makes its sound and style unique and recognizable.

WOLVESPIRIT’s New Single + Video ‘Joker’ Looks Behind Laughing Mask

The infamous Joker is back in theatres around the globe. Folie à Deux shows us how it came about that psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel became ever closer to the Joker’s emotional and mental world and fell for him instead of treating him. Perhaps it is not only in Arkham, but also in our real world, that we need our own traumatic past to really be able to put ourselves in the position of an outsider.

The German band WolveSpirit shed light on the question of how we as a society deal with those who are “different” and do not conform to conventional expectations, patterns and predetermined ideals with their straightforward, earthy hard rock single about the character of the “Joker”. We often exclude. Being different and thinking differently is perceived as a threat and must therefore be kept at a distance and kept down. Exclusion provokes a counter-reaction: Removed from normal standards, complete isolation from all social conventions can give rise to a bird-free independence that stands above things beyond all moral boundaries. The Joker’s cynical humor prevents him from being broken. And he who laughs last, laughs longest.

A quote from the movie-Joker bridges the gap between movie and music: “We use music to become perfect. To balance our broken souls.”

In their band history, WolveSpirit can look back on joint tours with Uriah Heep and Spiritual Beggars, among others. The last WolveSpirit album reached number 30 in the German album charts in 2022. The successor Bullshit has been announced for January 2025.

LANKESTER MERRIN Release First Single ‘Mastermind’ from Upcoming Album

October 24th sees the release of “Dark Mother’s Child”, the third album by female fronted melodic metallers LANKESTER MERRIN. From heavy double bass numbers to varied mid-tempo rockers and rousing metal hymns, the nine songs have something for everyone who likes hard, highly melodic power metal that stays away from the usual symphonic corner despite female vocals. Of course, the multi-faceted vocals of front woman Cat Rogers, whose vocals are an almost unmistakable figurehead of the band, should not go unmentioned.
