“Driven by bright, twisting synths and an extremely lively drum performance, GOTHO demonstrate their musical tightness and creativity.” – Decibel Magazine

Decibel Magazine has hosted the exclusive premiere of “First Fight In Planet Disco Dance,” by Italian progressive/cinematic instrumental duo GOTHO. The video precedes the band’s conceptual second album, Gothron Versus Fartark, nearing November release through exploratory label Supernatural Cat, operated by members of Ufomammut and the Malleus Rock Art Lab collective.

Gothron Versus Fartark was recorded by Danilo Battocchio at El Fish Studio, mixed by Danilo Battocchio at Deepest Sea Studio (Hierophant, Tons, Tutti), mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Nails, The Armed), and completed with cover art by the Malleus Rock Art Lab. Fans of psychedelic and cinematic artists Zombi, Goblin, Fabio Frizzi, Genghis Tron, John Carpenter, Anima Morte, Vangelis, and Zu should not miss GOTHO!

The video for “First Fight In Planet Disco Dance” was performed live in the studio, yet replicates the studio recording of the song with impeccable accuracy. The track was recorded/filmed live at Blackwave Studio in Genova, engineered, mixed and mastered by Fabio Palombi, the video filmed and edited by Fabio Palombi.

GOTHO reveals, “In ‘First Fight In Planet Disco Dance,’ Gothron and Fartark clash for the first time, with Gothron suffering defeat. The track opens with a slow-paced ‘metal’ section, setting the tension and weight of this epic confrontation. From here, it shifts into a sparse, spacey atmosphere, evoking the barren, alien landscape where the battle takes place. The climax comes with an explosive dive into ‘disco music,’ a surprising and energetic twist that pays homage to the planet hosting the fight, blending the pulse of dance with the epic stakes of the battle.”

GOTHO is an instrumental duo formed in the Summer of 2020 by Fabio Cuomo (Elder, Eremite, Liquido Di Morte) on synthesizers and electric piano and Andrea Peracchia (Tons, Dogs For Breakfast, Slaiver) on drums. The band became instantly recognizable for their ability to explore an incredibly wide range of musical genres, defying any attempt at categorization.

Gothron Versus Fartark further pushes the boundaries of the duo’s creativity, taking them into new, imaginative, and experimental sonic territories. Set in a sci-fi context, the album narrates an epic battle between two robotic entities, Gothron and Fartark, fighting for the survival of their respective worlds and control of the Logtark world. Through a series of trials and challenges, Gothron, the saga’s protagonist, ultimately defeats Fartark, preventing the destruction of the universe.

Musically, the album stands out for its use of synthesizers, electric piano, trumpet, drums, and featuring prominent use of the vocoder, masterfully woven together to create an immersive, cinematic soundscape. Spanning a wide range of genres, including progressive rock, metal, jazz, disco, psychedelia, post-rock, and classical music, making it impossible to categorize within a single genre, Gothron Versus Fartark is a unique musical experience that defies conventions and pushes the boundaries of sonic storytelling.

Supernatural Cat will release Gothron Versus Fartark on LP, CD, and digital platforms on November 15th. Find preorders at the label webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Modern rock powerhouse Pop Evil have shared their cinematic music video for their recently released track ‘What Remains’, via MNRK Heavy. In the video, viewers will plunge into the dark, fragmented landscape of singer Leigh Kakaty‘s psyche, unraveling the thin line between self-identity and survival.

Stream here: https://popevil.ffm.to/whatremainssingle

“The truest version of yourself comes from reaching within the darkest corners that you’ve kept hidden from the world,” explains Kakaty. “It’s in those shadows that you’ll uncover the reasons for your transformation. I have evolved into something new. I am not who I used to be. I am what remains.“

It’s the dawn of a new era for Pop Evil, which the band promises will be its most sonically heavy. The track, with its thunderous riffs and rhythmic thrust, fulfills that promise.

Watch the official music video, directed by Sam Shapiro, here:

Pop Evil first rose to international prominence with debut album Lipstick on the Mirror, featuring RIAA Certified Gold Single ‘100 in a 55’. After Kakaty famously tore up the band’s major label contract onstage, Pop Evil signed with MNRKHeavy (formerly eOne Music). 2011’s War of Angels debuted in the Top 10 of the Rock Albums chart and produced three Top 10 singles.

The band’s 2013 album Onyx put them in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time and boasted three consecutive No.1 rock songs, two RIAA Gold Singles, and one Platinum Single ‘Torn to Pieces’. Pop Evil‘s next release, Up, was the No.1 Independent Album in America and made it to #25 on the Billboard 200. It featured several Top 5 rock songs and a chart-topper with ‘Footsteps,’ which also went Gold.

Pop Evil‘s 2018 self-titled set included the No.1 hit and newly certified Gold single ‘Waking Lions’ and two other Top 10 hits. 2020’s Versatile, meanwhile, scored two No.1 rock songs: ‘Breathe Again’ and ‘Survivor’. In 2023, the band released its seventh studio album Skeletons, which spawned their eighth and ninth No.1 singles: ‘Eye of the Storm’ and ‘Skeletons’.

KOSMODOME Release New Studio Album “Ad Undas”, Out Now

Kosmodome’s “Ad Undas” is out now! The duo of Sturle and Severin Sandvik, two brothers from the west coast of Norway, have crafted a wonderful follow-up to their acclaimed debut from 2021.

Kosmodome’s music is riff-based rock with stoner elements all of which are placed within a progressive universe to great effect. Together, the duo bridges the gap between the explosive drive of bands such as Mastodon with melodic magic and retrospective, clever songwriting.

With a more melodious yet heavy sound, Kosmodome continues to push progressive boundaries, blending aggressive energy with intricate, unpredictable compositions that defy genre expectations. Prepare for a cosmic journey packed with surprises and sonic depth! Available on 180gr. clear vinyl including download and on CD, visit the Stickman Records shop at www.stickman-records.com

Hailing from Bergen, Kosmodome‘s astonishing debut album from 2021 heralded the arrival of a melodic progressive powerhouse of a different stripe. While endlessly groovy, the band sidesteps the stoner genre by virtue of their sheer creativity, crafting extremely catchy but still unpredictable tracks topped by excellent vocals. With an explosive drive in which the melodious contrasts the hard and heavy music, Kosmodome came to blow minds with their psychedelic sounding, 60s atmosphere-coloured rock!

In recent years, the band has reached out beyond the Norwegian west coast and is now ready with their second full length album “Ad Undas”. On this album, they are less confined by genre expectations, but still sound like Kosmodome. Growing up with all types of music genres in a musical home from world music to metal is something the songwriting reflects.

Musically the record shows what else lives inside the progressive universe Kosmodome are building, where one/the goal is to avoid being stuck in genre expectations. Seeking a more dynamic and melodious sound than earlier, the songwriters – brothers Sandvik, but appearing as a stellar four piece live band – still deliver an album with heavy riffs, aggressiveness and many surprises.

Lyrically it delves into personal struggles with self-doubt, the pressures of societal expectations, and the existential battles of modern life. The songs touch on different aspects of the human condition, from the fear of failure and the need for growth to the turmoil of modern living and relentless self-exertion in a chaotic world. Ad undas is a Greek term meaning “to the waves”, but in Norway it is used as an expression when everything goes “to hell” or fails (everything goes south).

Kosmodome is:
Sturle Sandvik – guitar/vocals
Severin Sandvik – drums/vocals
Ole Andreas Jensen – bass
Erlend Nord – guitar

STRANGER VISION Release New Single + Video ‘Nothing Really Matters’, Feat. James LaBrie

Stranger Vision just released their new single Nothing Really Matters featuring James LaBrie from Dream Theater.

There are moments in a man’s life when everything he believed to know dissolves. Not due to a mistake, but because, at the end of the long journey, the truth he was searching for is not there waiting for him. Nothing Really Matters, the new single by Stranger Vision, moves within this space, where Faust, after years of research and study, finds himself looking beyond the boundaries he has always known, towards a new, wider, more uncertain horizon.

Order: https://nfan.link/stranger-vision

The track does not speak of defeat, but of transformation. Nothing Really Matters becomes an existential manifesto, an invitation to search not for what has already been discovered, but for what remains hidden beyond the line of the visible.

Riccardo Toni, the band’s guitarist, describes the song as “the most progressive of the album. We wanted a track that was powerful, modern, but that also carried the melancholy of someone who, at the end of a long journey, realizes that the road is still long ahead,” says Toni. “The keyboards rise and fall dynamically, while the guitar solo winds through different registers, creating an energy that reflects the incessant and tireless search. Faust has realized that knowledge is not enough, that there is something beyond that he has not yet seen, and so he continues to search.”

The single features a special guest: James LaBrie from Dream Theater, who have just announced their reunion with Mike Portnoy, to be followed by a new album and world tour. James LaBrie’s presence in this song is not just a musical collaboration, but the meeting of two voices that reflect like distant mirrors. “James didn’t come just to sing,” recounts Ivan Adami, Stranger Vision’s lead singer, “he listened, added new ideas that changed everything. He took the song and elevated it to a new level. His deep and assured voice accompanies Faust on this new journey, not as a guide but as a companion, towards even bigger questions than he had previously asked.”
Nothing Really Matters
is not an act of surrender but of openness. Faust hasn’t stopped searching; he has simply realized that the answers he had found so far were not the right ones. It is a moment of transition, a path that does not end but changes direction. The song speaks of a man who knows that the truth is not where he has been searching, but that the road to finding it is still long and uncertain.

With Faust. Act I: Prelude To Darkness, their new album (coming November 8, 2024), Stranger Vision is not just telling a story of knowledge but of transformation. Of a man who, faced with the limits of human knowledge, chooses to go beyond. Nothing Really Matters is the point where everything changes. It is not that nothing matters; it’s that we may not have yet understood what truly matters.

Stranger Vision’s third studio album is a new chapter in their musical and thematic exploration. The concept album is divided into two parts and is inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s masterpiece, Faust, a timeless tale that explores the depths of the human soul, the conflict between ambition and morality, and the relentless search for meaning.

EPHIALTES Drop ‘The Void’ Lyric Video from Upcoming Debut Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 13, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: EPHIALTES. Leave a comment

Polish Blackened Death Group Ephialtes shares brand new video  for new single ‘The Void’, taken from the band’s upcoming debut album “Melas Oneiros” out November 1st.

“The Void” tells a story about a human who struggles with loneliness and searches for answers to an array of existential dilemmas, often seeking help from the supernatural. Regardless of under what name humanity refers to God in different places and cultures, the mechanism of merging the physical and spiritual world with each other, is always exactly the same. The true question is if prayers sent out to forces above or below in actuality help one persevere through struggle and hard times, or if in any case they fall upon deaf ears, into the void…

Ephialtes’ debut album ‘Melas Oneiros’ out Nov 1st is an aggressive, anthem-laden Melodic Blackened Death Metal with a traditional Heavy Metal feel to it. A peculiar, explosive blend that the band itself decided to call Heavy Metal of Death.

Pre-order here https://orcd.co/melas-oneiros
Stream here https://orcd.co/the-void

The name of the band derives from the Ancient Greek word “ephiáltēs (ἐφιάλτης)”, meaning “nightmare”, which in turn derives from the “ephàllomai (ἐφάλλομαι)”, composed of two elements: “epí (επί)” (upon, on) plus “állomai (ἅλλομαι)” (assault, climb, uphill, jumping, jump) because, in reference to a popular belief, the nightmares were nicknamed “one who climbed over the body of the dormant”. Ephialtes. One who leaps upon. The nightmare. The history of Ephialtes started over the course of the global pandemic. During that period the band’s driving force Przemysław Tomasz Olbryt alias Quazarre (also known from Devilish Impressions, Asgaard, ex-Crionics) had been hard at work on what would later turn to be their debut album, ‘Melas Oneiros’.
