Finnish progressive metal band Rioghan is set to release the second studio album ‘Kept’ on February 14th 2025 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘Edge’ is unleashed today and the stunning music video shot and edited by Aarni Visuals can be seen below.

Rioghan comments Edge -single:
” ’Edge’ sets the directions to the new album’s scenery, describing the harsh duality of deeply cut adoration and sickening disappointment, through the eyes of a wounded muse seeking for her revenge. Instrumentally the song is a quite unexpected take. We really pondered if it should be the first single at all, but after thorough thought we understood no other song would fit better for the first taste. This is our “shovel to the face” -opening act!”

  • Composed by Teemu Liekkala & Jenni Perämäki
  • Lyrics by Jenni Perämäki
  • Arranged by Tero Luukkonen, Antti Varjanne, Valtteri Revonkorpi, Vikram Shankar

Rioghan is a fresh breeze to progressive metal scene from Finland. The band consists of singer Rioghan Darcy, multi-instrumentalist Teemu Liekkala, guitarist Tero Luukkonen, bassist Antti Varjanne and drummer Valtteri Revonkorpi.

Their debut album ‘Different Kinds Of Losses’ was made in collaboration with Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Einar Solberg (Leprous) and Teemu Koskela (ex-Celesty), and it was rolled out during 2022 sparking interest widely. The singles got airtime in Finland and also internationally, and after the album release in December, Rioghan’s monthly listeners on Spotify peaked at 40 000. The songs also got into multiple Spotify editorial playlists.

Live line-up was put into action in 2023, and this autumn Rioghan will return to stages supporting Wheel on their Charismatic Leaders -tour, bringing their stellar show to Tampere, Kuopio, Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Lahti, and Oulu.

With new full-length album well on the way, the first single ‘Edge’ opens up a completely new portal to Rioghan’s mindset with more straight forward and even aggressive approach. Astonishing range of Rioghan Darcy’s vocals, rowdy djenty guitars and guest performer Vikram Shankar’s flowing keyboards will keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole song.

Rioghan started out as a solo project by singer and poetess Rioghan Darcy, based in Lapua, Finland. After years of writing poetry and lyrics, Rioghan was founded in 2019 with an intention to fleshen up some of her words with music. After a while, it grew into a trio with Teemu Liekkala (guitars, bass, keys, production) and Valtteri Revonkorpi (drums) added as permanent stars for the band, and in 2024 guitarist Tero Luukkonen and bassist Antti Varjanne also officially joined the band from live line-up. Rooted deeply in both gothic and progressive metal scenes, they sure should bring something interesting on the table.

Line-up:
Rioghan Darcy – vocals
Teemu Liekkala – guitar
Tero Luukkonen – guitar
Antti Varjanne – bass
Valtteri Revonkorpi – drums

Florida’s SEVEN KINGDOMS have released ‘Through These Waves,’ the second single from their highly anticipated upcoming EP, “The Square.” Set to drop on November 8, 2024 via rising metal label Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM), “The Square” promises to deliver more of the band’s signature sound. ‘Through These Waves’ is a three-and-a-half-minute burst of trad metal, packed with hooks that evoke the legends of the genre.

The band comment: “We are stoked to drop ‘Through These Waves’ today! This is the heaviest track on the EP with hooks and melodies galore! We wanted to touch on the heavier side of our influences for this song and bring a bit of a different feel that we have not brought yet to our catalog. We really enjoy this tempo, as it’s also the first SEVEN KINGDOMS song at this beat. We plan on having more like this on the upcoming record! The music video is a continuation of “The Square”‘s visual story and will conclude the two part filming that we did for both these songs. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Progressive rock guitarist Thomas Polychuck returns with one last hard-hitting new single, “1316,” just before releasing his highly anticipated solo album featuring world-renowned drummer Virgil Donati and legendary keyboardist Derek Sherinian. This high-energy track will be released on October 18, 2024 via Deko Entertainment, and showcases Polychuck‘s intricate guitar work, blending technical virtuosity with powerful melodies, continuing his evolution as a key figure in the prog scene.

Pre-save the single here: https://push.fm/ps/1316

“1316,” written by Polychuck, is driven by the complexity of its 13/16 time signature. With Donati’s rhythmic precision and Sherinian’s masterful keyboard work, the collaboration is an exhilarating blend of complex time signatures and dynamic interplay. Polychuck’s guitar tones cut through, balancing soaring solos and richly textured riffs, making the track a must-listen for prog enthusiasts.

But that’s not all—this single is just the beginning. Thomas Polychuck is set to release a full-length, self-titled album in just one month (on Black Friday: November 29, also via Deko Entertainment), further expanding his prog and jazz explorations. Fans can expect a blend of heavy, intricate compositions and polished musicianship, delivering what is sure to be one of the most exciting prog albums of the year.

Thomas Polychuck is a composer, producer and high-profile guitar coach from Canada. He is actively a member of two prog rock acts, THE||HIMN and In Sylva. At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, he used social media to his advantage and took the online guitar community by storm with his short videos, going from just a few hundred followers to over 100k across all platforms in a span of only 2 years.

Today, having taught and coached some of his own music heroes as well as hundreds of students around the globe, Thomas teamed up with some of the greatest players in the game such as Simon Phillips, Virgil Donati and Derek Sherinian (just to name a few) to deliver his unique piece of art encompassing all the style that he masters on the guitar. From progressive rock to metal with ventures in jazz and fusion, this masterpiece is sure to leave you astonished.

On his eponymous album, Thomas blends modern guitar techniques, various styles while keeping the production utterly organic sounding. With the use analog tape and old school mixing methods, Thomas brings back the warmth of 70’s classic records while keeping the music fresh and contemporary. Thomas plans to leave a legacy of his own in the realm of progressive and art rock, as a solo artist and as a member of his bands.

And in anticipation of the album release, a very limited pre-sale is now live. The pre-sale includes not only the full album but also an exclusive tablature book, giving fans an in-depth look at Polychuck’s guitar techniques and compositions. This is a must-have for guitarists and prog lovers looking to delve into the details of Polychuck’s complex and innovative playing.

CYTOTOXIN Unleash New Single ‘Hope Terminator’

After the release of their fourth full-length record Nuklearth in 2020, the nuclear quintet Cytotoxin strikes back with their first standalone single ‘Hope Terminator’. The band continues their blast of a musical and lyrical concept, tackling the catastrophic incident at the Chernobyl power plant in 1986.

Listen to ‘Hope Terminor’ here: https://cytotoxin.bfan.link/hope-terminator

With blazing, precise, and ionizing fast instrumental work paired with a groove that packs a punch, ‘Hope Terminator’ narrates the dramatic tale of Pripyat’s evacuation. After the reactor exploded, the city’s residents were exposed to abnormal levels of radioactive radiation for 36 hours before authorities finally decided to evacuate within just four hours. Since then, Pripyat has remained a ghost town, a chilling reminder of the past!

On the night of April 26, 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl power plant changed the course of the world.

Inspired by this catastrophe, the German death metal band Cytotoxin emerged in 2010, bringing a new level of intensity to the genre. By fusing technical and brutal riffs while thematizing the devastating effects of the reactor disaster, they quickly drew attention in the scene. Their debut album, Plutonium Heaven (2011), was a self-produced powerhouse, followed by their second record, Radiophobia (2012), which secured them a three-album deal with American label Unique Leader Records.

Cytotoxin quickly gained a reputation for their explosive live performances and razor-sharp precision on their instruments. Their third album, Gammageddon (2017), solidified their place in the tech death community, while their fourth album, Nuklearth (2020), showcased their versatility and songwriting capabilities. Following numerous European tours and major festival shows, Cytotoxin are set to make their U.S. and Canadian debut in November 2024 with their new single ‘Hope Terminator’ in hand.

Keep your gas mask ready, as the radiation spreads across the globe.

MASSACRE Premiere New Single & Music Video ‘Death May Die’

American death metal legends MASSACRE preview their upcoming album “Necrolution” (due out November 8th on Agonia Records) with a new single “Death May Die”, accompanied by a music video filmed by Niuvis Martin.

Watch the video at https://youtu.be/GuSuJYuOInA

“Necrolution” is a retrospective, nostalgic album, that turns back time to the late 80s and early 90s era of death metal. Recapturing the essence and style of death metal that was the original formula. Recreating the aesthetic feeling of something from the original style and sound to represent to these modern times. It’s purposefully meant to sound dated as it represents an era of early death metal music. It purposefully does not mimic the band’s own original style but rather reflects the styles of many early era bands that influenced generations in death metal music.

Commented by Kam Lee: “With «Necrolution» the idea was to evolve the band’s sound by devolving it. Unlike many bands in death metal that attempt to modernize and update their style and sound to emulate many of the modern contemporary death metal bands, we wanted to go back to the origin. The original sound and style. We wanted to make an album that sounds like it could have come out of the late 80s. The entire concept was to create something that was a de-evolution of the death metal genre and go back to an early style reminiscent of the past. Going back 40 years into the past to immolate the style of death metal that was predominantly influenced by thrash and heavy metal bands of the era. Lyrically it’s still entrenched in the horror genre and influenced by HP Lovecraft stories. We even have three tracks directly dedicated and influenced by the director Stewart Gordon, the filmmaker who was directly responsible for bringing Lovecraft films to horror movies in the 80s. The overall idea was to bring a 1980s aesthetic to the music that’s influenced by 1980s music as well as horror movie genre at the time. My hope is that fans find a unique experience when listening to «Necrolution» that not only encapsulates the feeling of 80s nostalgia but makes them appreciate the way the era influenced the death metal genre at the time.”

“Necrolution” was recorded at DOA studios, Full S Studios & Gojiden Studio in Florida (USA) and mixed and mastered by Jonny Pettersson at Studio Unbound in Sweden. The cover artwork was painted by Timbul Cahyono of Bvllmetalart. Mark Riddick (Arch Enemy, Autopsy, Morbid Angel) created the merchandise designs. The recording personnel for the new album – much of whom have been with MASSACRE since the “Resurgence” era – comprises, aside from Kam Lee, original MASSACRE bassist Mike Borders, returning guitarists Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Rib Spreader, Megascavanger) & Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath, Heads for The Dead), and new drummer, Jon Rudin (Just Before Dawn, Heads for The Dead, Dehumanaut). The band features a separate session line-up for live performances, which consists of Carlos Gonzalez (Grim Reality) on guitars, Elden Santos (Druid Lord) on drums and Tim Wilson on bass.

Tracklisting:
1. Fear Of The Unknown
2. Xenophobia (Prologue)
3. Rituals Of The Abyss
4. Ensnarers Within
5. Death May Die

7. The Colour Out Of Space

12. Shriek Of The Castle Freak

Formed in 1984, MASSACRE started out as a heavy/power metal band, but changed its style to death metal with the joining of Allen West and Kam Lee; the latter is often credited for inventing the “death growl” – first heard on the band’s 1986 demo “Aggressive Tyrant” – and is considered an influential pioneer as far as the death metal genre is concerned. The group went through several personnel shifts and disbandments over the years – with its early line-up toggling between MASSACRE,  Mantas  (early Death) and Death – to a triumphant return in 2021, with their last studio album “Resurgence”.
