CYTOTOXIN Unleash New Single ‘Hope Terminator’

After the release of their fourth full-length record Nuklearth in 2020, the nuclear quintet Cytotoxin strikes back with their first standalone single ‘Hope Terminator’. The band continues their blast of a musical and lyrical concept, tackling the catastrophic incident at the Chernobyl power plant in 1986.

Listen to ‘Hope Terminor’ here: https://cytotoxin.bfan.link/hope-terminator

With blazing, precise, and ionizing fast instrumental work paired with a groove that packs a punch, ‘Hope Terminator’ narrates the dramatic tale of Pripyat’s evacuation. After the reactor exploded, the city’s residents were exposed to abnormal levels of radioactive radiation for 36 hours before authorities finally decided to evacuate within just four hours. Since then, Pripyat has remained a ghost town, a chilling reminder of the past!

On the night of April 26, 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl power plant changed the course of the world.

Inspired by this catastrophe, the German death metal band Cytotoxin emerged in 2010, bringing a new level of intensity to the genre. By fusing technical and brutal riffs while thematizing the devastating effects of the reactor disaster, they quickly drew attention in the scene. Their debut album, Plutonium Heaven (2011), was a self-produced powerhouse, followed by their second record, Radiophobia (2012), which secured them a three-album deal with American label Unique Leader Records.

Cytotoxin quickly gained a reputation for their explosive live performances and razor-sharp precision on their instruments. Their third album, Gammageddon (2017), solidified their place in the tech death community, while their fourth album, Nuklearth (2020), showcased their versatility and songwriting capabilities. Following numerous European tours and major festival shows, Cytotoxin are set to make their U.S. and Canadian debut in November 2024 with their new single ‘Hope Terminator’ in hand.

Keep your gas mask ready, as the radiation spreads across the globe.

MASSACRE Premiere New Single & Music Video ‘Death May Die’

American death metal legends MASSACRE preview their upcoming album “Necrolution” (due out November 8th on Agonia Records) with a new single “Death May Die”, accompanied by a music video filmed by Niuvis Martin.

Watch the video at https://youtu.be/GuSuJYuOInA

“Necrolution” is a retrospective, nostalgic album, that turns back time to the late 80s and early 90s era of death metal. Recapturing the essence and style of death metal that was the original formula. Recreating the aesthetic feeling of something from the original style and sound to represent to these modern times. It’s purposefully meant to sound dated as it represents an era of early death metal music. It purposefully does not mimic the band’s own original style but rather reflects the styles of many early era bands that influenced generations in death metal music.

Commented by Kam Lee: “With «Necrolution» the idea was to evolve the band’s sound by devolving it. Unlike many bands in death metal that attempt to modernize and update their style and sound to emulate many of the modern contemporary death metal bands, we wanted to go back to the origin. The original sound and style. We wanted to make an album that sounds like it could have come out of the late 80s. The entire concept was to create something that was a de-evolution of the death metal genre and go back to an early style reminiscent of the past. Going back 40 years into the past to immolate the style of death metal that was predominantly influenced by thrash and heavy metal bands of the era. Lyrically it’s still entrenched in the horror genre and influenced by HP Lovecraft stories. We even have three tracks directly dedicated and influenced by the director Stewart Gordon, the filmmaker who was directly responsible for bringing Lovecraft films to horror movies in the 80s. The overall idea was to bring a 1980s aesthetic to the music that’s influenced by 1980s music as well as horror movie genre at the time. My hope is that fans find a unique experience when listening to «Necrolution» that not only encapsulates the feeling of 80s nostalgia but makes them appreciate the way the era influenced the death metal genre at the time.”

“Necrolution” was recorded at DOA studios, Full S Studios & Gojiden Studio in Florida (USA) and mixed and mastered by Jonny Pettersson at Studio Unbound in Sweden. The cover artwork was painted by Timbul Cahyono of Bvllmetalart. Mark Riddick (Arch Enemy, Autopsy, Morbid Angel) created the merchandise designs. The recording personnel for the new album – much of whom have been with MASSACRE since the “Resurgence” era – comprises, aside from Kam Lee, original MASSACRE bassist Mike Borders, returning guitarists Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Rib Spreader, Megascavanger) & Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath, Heads for The Dead), and new drummer, Jon Rudin (Just Before Dawn, Heads for The Dead, Dehumanaut). The band features a separate session line-up for live performances, which consists of Carlos Gonzalez (Grim Reality) on guitars, Elden Santos (Druid Lord) on drums and Tim Wilson on bass.

Formed in 1984, MASSACRE started out as a heavy/power metal band, but changed its style to death metal with the joining of Allen West and Kam Lee; the latter is often credited for inventing the “death growl” – first heard on the band’s 1986 demo “Aggressive Tyrant” – and is considered an influential pioneer as far as the death metal genre is concerned. The group went through several personnel shifts and disbandments over the years – with its early line-up toggling between MASSACRE,  Mantas  (early Death) and Death – to a triumphant return in 2021, with their last studio album “Resurgence”.

Alternative Icons SPONGE Fade Into 1994 with Stunning Mazzy Star Cover

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 12, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: SPONGE. Leave a comment

Alternative rock heroes Sponge continue teasing out the contents of their upcoming 1994 album, and if anyone thought their last release – Morrissey’s “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get” – was a surprising choice for them, this one will set you reeling.

A tribute to the year during which Sponge themselves broke through, 1994 includes Sponge’s uniquely inspired versions of iconic alt rock hits like Blur’s “Girls and Boys,” Sonic Youth’s “Bull In The Heather,” Alice In Chains’ “No Excuses,” Oasis’s “Supersonic” and more!

But even amidst such exalted company, “Fade Into You” stands out as a masterpiece.  Taken from Mazzy Star’s second album So Tonight That I Might See, the song seemed to be everywhere in 1994; top three on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart, top 50 on the hot 100 and, since that time, it’s become a regular in TV and movie soundtracks.  Just three years ago, Rolling Stone included it among “the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

“Fade Into You is a FANTASTIC SONG,” says Vinnie, “but not an obvious choice which makes it more interesting and challenging.  Covering songs by Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains seem reasonable for a band like Sponge, but to step away from the harder vocal guitar driven rockers shows an entire new side of the band.”

Director Drew Fortier’s accompanying video only accentuates the song’s already chilling atmosphere – a Strictly No Spoilers ghost story that is sure to become one of the all-time classic Halloween hits.  And it co-stars Hannah Fierman, who has some great horror/thriller credits already behind her, including V/H/S, Siren and St. Agatha, alongside episodes of Creepshow and The Vampire Diaries.

THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND Unleash New Single ‘Crawling End’ from Upcoming Album

French doom metallers THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND have unleashed a first taste of their highly anticipated album, “Clans Of The Alphane Moon”, set to release on November 1 through Sleeping Church Records. The band’s latest single, ‘Crawling End’, was released today, offering a glimpse into the sonic journey awaiting listeners.

Exploring the thematic depths of their creative process, the band offers insight into the album’s inspiration: “For this album, we embarked on a conceptual delirium inspired by 1960s and 70s sci-fi culture, reminiscent of ‘Metal Hurlant.’ Featuring recurring riffs and unsettling leitmotifs connecting each track, Ben’s lyrics and the captivating artwork by our friend Tetar embody a space-age SF atmosphere. After a five-year journey of combining heavy riffs with psychedelic space elements, ‘Clans Of The Alphane Moon’ is a fusion of our musical evolution and influences.“

The album was meticulously recorded, mixed, and mastered by Guyome (Guillaume Béry) at The Cripple Room in France. The mesmerizing artwork, skillfully crafted by Tetar (CHILDREN OF DOOM), was brought to life by Tos (BARABBAS, PRESUMPTION).

“Clans Of The Alphane Moon” is now available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION and will be officially released on November 1 via Sleeping Church Records.

Tracklist:

  1. Ride The Leviathans
  2. Crawling End
  3. To The Solar System
  4. Castle Made Of Corpses
  5. The Technosorcerer
  6. Flames Of Sagitarius
  7. The Dying Earth
