MOLDER Share New Single ‘Frothing’ from Upcoming Album

Joliet, IL death metal quartet MOLDER has shared a new song, titled Frothing, from their upcoming third album, Catastrophic Reconfiguration, due out on Prosthetic Records on November 8. Frothing boasts a guest vocal feature from long-running Chicago, IL death metal band Cianide’s Scott Carroll, making MOLDER‘s latest single a distinctly Illinois affair.

Stream Frothing via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify

Speaking on the new single, Aaren Pantke (vocals / guitar) comments: “Arguably my favorite song on the record. If someone were to ask “what we’re all about?” This is the one I’d show them. It’s got everything; thrash, death, crust, doom etc. It even has Scott Carroll of Cianide doing guests vocals during the “meltdown”. It’s one of our most rabid tracks, period. For fans of losing your damn mind.”

The writing process for Catastrophic Reconfiguration included guitarist Carlos Santini for the first time, who brought more of a rounded and dynamic sound to the fold. Despite the new addition, finding time to write was the biggest challenge for the band, mainly due to their rigorous rehearsing and touring schedule for Engrossed, which included runs with Exhumed, Enforced, Jungle Rot and Fulci on top of festival appearances including Maryland Death Fest, Milwaukee Metalfest and Volcanic Strike Hawaii in Maui, to name a few. “Respect to those that tour full time, hold down jobs, and still find the time to be inspired enough to get it done!” remarks Pantke. “That said, we did get it done, it just took a little bit longer than we’d have liked! Once the ball got rolling, it stayed rolling”

Part of the refining of the new album meant going back to a more DIY approach to recording, with this time being done mainly at home with recording engineer, Matt Aguilar. Tracking in our basements injected a vigorous feeling back to the band. “Everyone annihilated their tracks in a matter of hours! Which for us is unheard of,” says Pantke. “This was easily the most prepared and comfortable we’ve ever been while cutting a record, and we owe a lot of that comfort to Matt.” The only setback the band faced was when Pantke broke his nose in an unfortunate incident right before he was set to record his vocals. Once completely healed, he nailed his takes and the tracks were sent off to Greg Wilkinson (Autopsy) at Ear Hammer Studios for mixing and mastering. “Greg was incredibly professional and a joy to work with. It was incredible working with someone so prestigious who so understood what it was we wanted to achieve. Total respect and absolute support to him!” exclaimed Pantke.

The resulting 10 tracks don’t stray too far from the band’s oozing, blistering sound. As usual, it’s chock full of Pantke’s riffs and agonized howls, but that’s not all. It still includes nauseating bass runs from Dominic Vaia, pounding drum performance from Kyle Pooley and mind melting leads from Carlos Santini. Proving their dynamics as a band haven’t deteriorated but have just been given more life. “You can still expect this to be a Molder record,” states Pantke. “Just musically and sonically better than the last! We simply wanted a shorter, nastier, and more professional sounding record than what we’ve done before.”

For the art, which has always been arranged by Pooley, he brought Mexican oil painter, Julian Felipe Mora Ibañez to the group, which they all agreed would be perfect. “The art concept for this record sort of follows the same as Engrossed in Decay, but this time rather than a death through decay, it’s a rebirth in it,” remarked Pantke. “We wanted it to pay homage to the works of Mental Funeral or Dark Recollections, amongst other things of course, but those two references definitely shine through on this particular piece. As far as colors go, we really wanted it to by a nice companion piece to the last record, without completely repeating it.”

3. Overdue Burial
4. Frothing
5. Masked in Mold

After five sold-out performances of Ayreon – 01011001 – Live Beneath the Waves at the 013 venue in The Netherlands in 2023, attended by 15,000 fans from 64 countries, and following four sold-out Ayreon – Electric Castle Live & Other Tales shows in 2019, as well as three sold-out Ayreon Universe shows in 2017, Ayreon is ready to add another exciting chapter to its live history. The new production, Ayreon – 30th Anniversary – An Amazing Flight Through Time, will mark 30 years since the release of the debut album, The Final Experiment, in 1995. This massive, state-of-the-art live production will take the audience on a journey through Arjen Lucassen‘s entire discography, featuring a massive, one-of-a-kind stage design, stunning visuals, spectacular special effects—and much more.

Ayreon Mastermind Arjen Lucassen, alongside lead producer and keyboardist Joost van den Broek, has assembled a remarkable cast of many fan-favorite Ayreon vocalists and special guests, plus an outstanding group of instrumentalists to bring the music to life at the highest possible level. Lucassen himself will also perform on vocals.

Titled An Amazing Flight Through Time, the setlist will span Ayreon’s 30-year history, offering a wide range of songs, including some that have never been played live before, alongside fan favorites. Besides that, some songs of Arjen’s side projects will be performed as well. No effort will be spared in transforming the 013 venue into an immersive “Ayreon world,” where fans will be transported to another dimension. This show is set to be the ultimate Ayreon celebration, paying tribute to Arjen’s music in its most complete form.

While the two previous Ayreon live shows focused on performing full studio albums, this anniversary show will be the ultimate ‘Best of Ayreon’. In 2019, Electric Castle Live & Other Tales was atmospheric and dynamic, while 2023’s 01011001 – Live Beneath the Waves brought a mysterious, industrial, and bombastic energy. The 30th-anniversary shows, however, will be an eclectic mix of everything that is Ayreon, creating the perfect event for Ayreonauts to unite and share their love of Arjen’s music at the Ayreon party of the decade. Expect further details and surprises in the coming weeks!

Arjen Lucassen shared his thoughts: “After the overwhelming success of the previous Ayreon shows, and above all, the warm reception from both the fans and the musicians, it was an easy decision to bring Ayreon back for more shows in 2025. But the big question was: what should be the theme of the show, and how can we surprise and delight the fans this time? The answer is simple—2025 marks Ayreon’s 30th anniversary! I can’t wait to see the fans’ reactions to a setlist featuring classic Ayreon songs as well as some that we’ve never performed live before. And, of course, there will be an exciting new stage design and special effects. Hope to see you there!”

To give fans from around the globe the ultimate Ayreon experience, the city of Tilburg will once again transform into “Ayreon City” during the shows, offering even more Ayreon-themed events than ever before. There will be a renewed Ayreon pop-up store at 013’s Next Stage with exclusive merchandise, exciting elements, and special performances. Additionally, the 01011001 – Live Beneath the Waves show will be screened at Pathé Cinema. Fans can look forward to an Ayreon camping site, official Ayreon hangouts after the shows, Ayreon flags across the city, and restaurants and bars offering special Ayreon-themed menus and deals. On top of that, expect Ayreon beer, exclusive fan discounts at local shops, and many more surprises to make this an unforgettable experience!

Lead producer and keyboardist Joost van den Broek added: “I’m very excited to be playing the finest selection of Ayreon songs live during the 30th anniversary shows”, says lead producer/keyboardist Joost van den Broek. “It’s refreshing to not be playing a studio album in its entirety this time, but be much more free to shape the show exactly how we would like. It’s gonna be a super versatile setlist celebrating Arjen’s amazing back catalog of over 30 years of music. I’m excited about every step to come in this huge process creating the ultimate Ayreon ‘flight through time’. I can’t wait for next year’s show when everything we’ve worked on will come together in the 013 venue and I’ll have the honour of sharing the stage with this great cast of musicians, playing in front of the always amazing and passionate Ayreon fans!”

Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 31st, at 4:00 PM CET.

Riding the triumphant success of their 50th Anniversary celebration, Blue Öyster Cult is rolling into the release of ’50th Anniversary Live – Third Night,’ the final installment of the live album celebrating the band’s 50th Anniversary.

This electrifying performance, which includes the band’s third album ‘Secret Treaties’ performed back-to-back, is set to hit the shelves on December 13, 2024 and promises to be a spectacular follow-up to the band’s historic three-night stint at Sony Hall in NYC.

In September of 2022, Blue Öyster Cult enthralled fans with a unique trilogy of sold-out shows, each dedicated to one of their first three albums. Founding member Albert Bouchard made a special appearance on all three nights, adding a nostalgic touch to the historic milestone.

For nearly three hours each night, the band delivered a spellbinding set, weaving through the entirety of their now-classic initial trilogy of albums and treating fans to a mix of favorites, deep cuts, and classic hits. The atmosphere was electric, and Frontiers Music captured the magic, releasing each night as a special individual package.

Blue Öyster Cult’s legacy spans over five decades, captivating fans with intelligent hard rock loaded with classic songs. Hailing from Long Island, NY, the band is renowned in the hard rock and heavy metal scene for their pioneering work, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success.

Cited as a major influence by acts like Metallica, Blue Öyster Cult boasts a timeless catalog, including iconic tracks like “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” “Godzilla,” and “Burnin’ for You.” The creative vision of the original core duo, Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser and Eric Bloom, is complemented by Richie Castellano, Danny Miranda, and Jules Radino, forming a powerhouse lineup.

As the band embraces its status as a ‘classic rock’ phenomenon, they continue to create vibrant work, offering a refreshing alternative to mainstream trends. With a relentless touring schedule and the critically acclaimed album ‘THE SYMBOL REMAINS’ released in 2020, Blue Öyster Cult remains an enduring force, ready to ignite the stage once again with the upcoming release of ’50th Anniversary Live – Third Night’ on Frontiers Music Srl.

These live releases follow ‘Ghost Stories’ – a captivating collection of reimagined and completed songs from 1978 to 2016. These musical treasures, long considered the ‘lost gems’ by BLUE ÖYSTER CULT enthusiasts, were originally recorded between 1978 and 1983, except for one track from 2016, “If I Fell.” Some material is from workshopping albums, some from performance rehearsals, and all were recorded once in the hopes that someday they’d see the light of day.

George Geranios, the band’s original audio engineer and an integral part of the band’s golden years produced the tracks along with BÖC and all were originally recorded on reel-to-reel analog tape. He transferred them to digital audio which is when modern AI and magical musical talents meet and the collection of vintage multi-track recordings was de-mixed, re-mixed, and produced by Steve Schenck and Richie Castellano to become ‘Ghost Stories.’

Richie Castellano completed work in the studio for the album along with remaining original members Eric Bloom and Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser and both Albert Bouchard and Rick Downey appear on drums with additional overdubs recorded by Joe Bouchard. All these original lineup members appearing on ‘Ghost Stories,’ create a musical journey that traverses decades and promises easter eggs for days.

‘Ghost Stories’ celebrates the recording legacy of one of rock’s most iconic fixtures from the past 50 years.

SODOM Release New Video + Single for Remastered Version of ‘Wachturm’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 11, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: Sodom. Leave a comment

Sodom’s cult 1992 album Tapping The Vein may have been the bands heaviest offering yet but as the band remembers, the album really offered something new, there were more punk influences in it and the track ‘Wachturm’ wears that influence in its shoulder.

Tom Angelripper recalls how the song came together, “Andy (Brings – guitarist) is a big Ramones fan, which Chris (Witchhunter – drums) and I also liked. Chris was the metal advocate in the band, whereas I was more into punk and Motörhead. It was the combination that made it work.” Andy adds: “Chris wasn’t averse to punk either, he was a big fan of Die Toten Hosen for example. At that time we actually considered covering their song ‘Liebesspieler’ for TappingTheVein but in the end we composed our own punk song, ‘Wachturm‘.” Even though the German lyrics of the song sound humorous, they have a serious background. They are based on some very bad experiences Chris had with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. His girlfriend at the time joined the sect and left him because of it.”

The new expanded editions of Sodom’s, Tapping The Vein feature the original album remastered, it also features a complete remixed version done by Andy Brings with some additional alternative takes of three album tracks, plus three live concerts: Tokyo 1992, Düsseldorf 1992 and Cologne 1992 (Chris Witchhunter´s last show with Sodom) in the super deluxe edition.

Sodom’s deluxe, expanded reissue of Tapping The Vein is available in these formats.

*Deluxe triple LP red & black swirl vinyl and double CD deluxe 24 page bookpack.
*Double, gatefold transparent red vinyl.
*Triple CD digisleeve with 24 page booklet
