TOMY LAISTO Releases Melancholic Acoustic Solo Album “Penumbra”, Out Now

Tomy Laisto is a guitarist known from Finnish bands as Insomnium, Pain Confessor, Mors Principium Est, Omnium Gatherum and Arc Spectra. His debut solo album “Penumbra” is released today October 4th via Inverse Records. The album features many well known artists such as Derek Sherinian (Ex-Dream Theater), Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity) and Rainer Nygård (Diablo). Although musically the album is something totally different than metal music. Penumbra is an ambitious package of atmospheric acoustic songs. A hint of jazz and blues twist blended with melancholic singer-songwriter material.

Genre-blending musician CORY MARKS will release his second full-length album, SORRY FOR NOTHING, on December 6 via Better Noise Music. An unapologetic double-barreled blast of 13 songs, equally divided between roots country and arena-rock, marks the follow-up to his acclaimed debut album, Who I Am. Today, October 4, CORY MARKS showcases his dual musicality with two new track releases. “Fast As I Can” is an exciting, feel-good country track with a fun, foot-stomping chorus that will have you hooked and singing along to every word. “Whiskey For Sale” is a perfect blend of bluegrass, country, and a heavy rock chorus, narrating a love story that has taken a turn. INNERWISH Unveil New Single & Video ‘Higher’

Greek metal sextet INNERWISH have just unveiled their new single ‘Higher’ taken from their new studio album “Ash Of Eternal Flame,” which is due on November 8, 2024 through Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). ‘Higher’ immediately raises expectations by its title alone, but also meets them with ease. Powerful riffing, soaring vocals, and touching lyrics consisting of a father’s love letters to his child make the song a must for each and every melodic metal fan.

The band state: “This is one of our most favourite songs of the album and – to be honest here – the one we were afraid it wouldn’t end up in the album due to it being way different than the others! But Henrik Udd’s excellent mixing somehow dispelled our fears and we’re more than happy to share it with you! The lyrical story of this song is about a father talking to his first born child. In this case, it’s a son and in particular the one of our singer George, but you can project it onto any child you want obviously: the feelings of the father, his thoughts, his anxieties, his will to always be there for his child – even after leaving this world.”

The album “Ash Of Eternal Flame” features two distinct cover designs by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (known for his work with AMARANTHE, KAMELOT, ARION, and more). The blue version is used for both the CD and digital formats, while the red version is reserved for the vinyl edition. The album includes twelve tracks (including a bonus cover version for physical formats), recorded at LoNe and Devasoundz Studios in Athens, Greece under the guidance of producer Fotis Benardo. Mixing and mastering were handled by award-winning engineer Henrik Udd, who has worked with acts like HAMMERFALL, POWERWOLF, and SEPTICFLESH.

Acclaimed blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Joanne Shaw Taylor has just released her latest single, “All The Things I Said,” now available on all major streaming platforms. As the first song written for her upcoming new studio album, “All The Things I Said” captures a moment of looking back on a past relationship with hard-earned wisdom, acknowledging the flaws that led to its demise while seeking mutual acceptance.

“This is the first song I wrote for the new album,” Joanne shares. “It’s about reflecting on a past relationship and accepting your part in its failure as well as asking your ex-partner to do the same. It’s also about how you can reflect on a love relationship and with the benefit of time you can see how you could have done things differently.”

With its candid lyrics and dynamic delivery, “All The Things I Said” is a powerful testament to Joanne’s ability to translate deeply personal experiences into universally relatable stories. The song also sees Joanne expanding her songwriting prowess, channelling influences reminiscent of John Mayer while seamlessly blending them with pop sensibilities for a fresh, contemporary sound. Every album has its own history, and this one not only tells of VOODOO CIRCLE and its musicians, but also – indirectly, of course – of Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow and Led Zeppelin. Without trying to disguise their influences, VOODOO CIRCLE consciously follow in the footsteps of these iconic acts and their great international status. Their upcoming album “Hail To The King” doesn’t even try to hide the obvious source of inspiration that spawned the twelve tracks on the recording, but presents with pride, bravura and impressive stylistic confidence the brand of timeless hard rock coined by those groups. As band mastermind Alex Beyrodt recently said: “Our aim is to continue in the great tradition of this music and translate it into a contemporary context.”

The history of “Hail To The King” includes an interesting anecdote: Two of the twelve new album tracks were penned by former Rainbow keyboardist Tony Carey. Beyrodt remembers, looking back almost 25 years: “At the beginning of the 1990s, we were in Tony’s studio to record material for a Sinner album, including the two Carey compositions, ‘All For One’ and ‘Billy’s Song’, which were only released in Japan at the time. I still remember how, in my mid-twenties, I couldn’t believe that I was standing in a recording studio with a legend such as Carey, watching him play the Hammond organ for us, headbanging away. Both songs have been at the back of my mind ever since, just waiting for the right moment to record them again. And since I also wanted to listen to the Rainbow side of me for ‘Hail To The King’, that perfect moment seemed to have arrived.”

At the same time, the new VOODOO CIRCLE album contains not only the usual Whitesnake reminiscences but also a powerful dose from the Led Zeppelin direction. As always, Beyrodt proves to be an outstandingly versatile guitarist, adding: “Ultimately, each song decides which guitar I play. The days when musicians stood for one specific type of guitar are long gone. Nowadays, it’s all about doing justice to the song and its story.”

The first-rate mix courtesy of Achim Köhler, which – like the impressive cover artwork – captures the spirit of this powerful rock disc perfectly, also underlines this claim.
