THE 69 EYES Team Up with DEAD BOYS for Fist-Pumping Rendition of DB Classic ‘Sonic Reducer’

Sparks fly and speakers explode when these two musical Behemoths recreate this foundational song of the early punk movement that has been covered by everyone from Guns N’ Roses to Pearl Jam to Foetus!

Written by guitarist Cheetah Chrome and Pere Ubu’s David Thomas, during their earlier tenure with Cleveland legends Rocket From The Tombs, “Sonic Reducer” was first recorded by Chrome’s next band, punk icons The Dead Boys in 1977, for both their debut single and their first album, Young, Loud and Snotty.

Immediately it was hailed one of the definitive New York punk anthems, its incendiary roar only further enflamed by one of the essential NY punk guitar riffs, unleashed by Chrome himself.

“Cheetah Chrome is literally the Last Man Standing,” raves The 69 Eyes’ Jyrki 69.  “A rock’n’roll guitar legend with a recognizable and unique sound that has influenced all the new generations of guitarists. From Scotty Moore to Jimi Hendrix to Wayne Kramer to Ron Asheton, the next link is Cheetah Chrome who still performs and records with the same sound like he is known for.

Neither did this collaboration come about purely by chance. As Jyrki continues, “I used to run into Cheetah in the late 80’s in the New York scene. He was and is a true legend.”  And when The 69 Eyes first came together in 1989, “‘Sonic Reducer’ was one of the first songs we rehearsed to play. God bless Cheetah Chrome!”

This tumultuous collaboration is available both digitally and on 7-inch vinyl, where it is backed with The 69 Eyes’ brilliant cover of The Cramps’ “Aloha From Hell!.” Producer Cameron Webb (Motörhead/Pennywise) discusses the recording session here – (part 1) https://youtu.be/b9yo-uUdnBc (part 2) https://youtu.be/_4SkqH1HHAY.

And, if that wasn’t enough 69 Eyes excitement, the band are about to launch a short Central American tour.

Conquer Divide and Mascot Records have announced the release of a new digital deluxe version of SLOW BURN this week, alongside a new visualizer for “80 Proof” which captures a tender and emotional solo performance of Kia Taylor on an acoustic guitar. You can watch the video HERE.

Talking about “80 Proof”, Kia says; “I wrote 80 Proof during a time in my life that was complicated and hard. Although it is a deeply personal song, I hope that listeners can connect with it, and even feel a sense of healing similar to what I experienced when writing it.”

The announcement coincides with two recordings that are having wide success at the US Active Rock format. First, a new version of the band’s hit “Paralyzed” (featuring Attack Attack!); and a new 10 Years re-release of their hit “The Optimist” which features Conquer Divide’s Kia. 10 Years and Conquer Divide will stage a US tour together this Fall from October 11 through the 26th.

This past year, the band staged a run of performances as direct support for The Warning across the U.K. and Europe. In January 2025, Conquer Divide will return to Europe and the UK for a tour with New Years Day between the 21st of January and the 1st of February. Right after, the band will appear with Ankor starting on February 7 in Cologne, and will call through Germany, The Netherlands, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and will finish on March 16 in Kortrijk, Belgium.

Conquer Divide’s Kia Taylor shares, “We are so excited to be returning to Europe in 2025! When we toured with The Warning last spring it was our first time touring outside of the U.S. as a band, and we had so much fun meeting new people and exploring new cities. We are looking forward to meeting even more people and making new fans in cities and countries we’ve never been to before! This will be the longest amount of consecutive touring dates we’ve ever done together, and we are excited and hopeful!”. Tickets are available here.

The Deluxe Edition of Slow Burn digitally presents an additional six recordings. Three of these are from Sirius XM Octane’s Next Wave Concert Series, which are “Bad Guy,”  “Atonement,”  and “Paralyzed.”  Alongside “Paralyzed (Featuring “Attack Attack!),” “Only Girl” (Acoustic), and “80 Proof.”

The band hailing from the U.S., U.K. and Canada have made a steady progression from their melodic metalcore inspired roots, maturing into a formidable hard rock act, nearing the end of their first decade together. In 2020, they returned to the studio with 2x Grammy nominated producer Tyler Smyth (Falling in Reverse, I Prevail) and 4x RIAA certified gold record producer Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, The Devil Wears Prada, Of Mice & Men) and began recording of SLOW BURN.

SLOW BURN picked up multiple playlisting including All New Metal, Rock Hard, The Core, Heavy Queens, Kickass Metal, New Nu and more. They picked up multiple BBC Radio 1 plays alongside playlisting at Kerrang! Radio, Kerrang! TV and Primordial Radio. “Paralyzed” was one of the Metal Hammer tracks of the year with the album also being amongst the ‘Albums of the Year.’ They’ve picked up support from Rock Sound, Distorted Sound, Alternative Press, Revolver, GuitarWorld, SXM Octane, Loudwire and more. The album has now exceeded 34 Million cumulative streams.

The all-female lineup of Kiarely Taylor (vocals), Kristen Sturgis (guitar), Izzy Johnson (guitar) and Sam Landa (drums) have seen an emerging global fan base emanating from their power as a band.

Century Media Records Signs Estonian Metalcore Force PRIDIAN, New Single & Video ‘Near Dark’ Out Now

There is a new force on the horizon: Century Media Records is excited to announce the signing of the Estonian metalcore band PRIDIAN. Their new single “Near Dark” unleashes just a glimpse of what is to come as it marks the first single for PRIDIAN’s upcoming album with Century Media Records to be released in spring 2025. Stream the single now HERE & watch the video HERE.

The four-piece metalcore band PRIDIAN, originally from Tartu, Estonia, embarked on their musical journey in 2018. Drawing inspiration from experiences and emotions around them, PRIDIAN craft a sound characterized by heavy, dark grooves, powerful vocals, and cinematic melodies, all infused with electronic elements. Their debut album The Rotten Unknown (released in 2021 under the name ÆØNS) was nominated for the “Metal Album of The Year” award by the Estonian Music Awards. The successful debut album was then followed by the 2023 EP Cybergnosis. PRIDIAN’s lineup consists of Jörg-Erik Hanikat and Martin Randalu on guitars, Robert Leht on drums, and Laur Lindmäe on vocals.

The band shares about the signing: “We are thrilled to announce that we have signed a record deal with Century Media Records, marking a significant step forward in PRIDIAN’s journey. Many of our musical tastes have been shaped by the very bands signed to this label, making this a true full-circle moment for us. As an up-and-coming band from Estonia’s small but growing metal scene, we are incredibly proud to help pave the way for Estonian metal and show the world what PRIDIAN has to offer.”

Mike Gitter, Century Media VP of A&R, adds: “We’re excited to be involved with PRIDIAN at this early stage in their career. An incredibly forward-thinking and visionary band from Estonia, PRIDIAN represents what Century Media has been great at since the beginning: identifying and being a part of the growth and journey of long-time career bands, many of whom have been with us since their beginnings. PRIDIAN has the best aspects of that with a furious future ahead of them.”

PRIDIAN’s Century Media debut single “Near Dark”, mixed and mastered by Matt Thomas who also worked with bands such as KINGDOM OF GIANTS, features the band’s signature sound while exploring themes around dissolution in life.

PRIDIAN’s vocalist Laur shares about the single: “This track symbolizes the complete dissolution of the self. Once you understand that you are nothing, it becomes powerfully liberating. “Near Dark” delves into the depths of pain, feelings of insignificance, and the struggle for identity. Through metaphors of nature and decay, the song expresses a longing to shed personal suffering and become part of something greater. It embodies the desire to bury the past, find renewal, and surrender to life’s natural cycle. In this process of release and rebirth, “Near Dark” becomes a poignant meditation on transformation and the merging of self with the collective whole.”

PRIDIAN Live:

This fall, the ESTONIAN band is also slowly making their way through Europe’s live stages: Sep 20th, they were part of TECH FEST in Helsinki, their first show ever in Finland, where they shared the stage with DISTANT, ASSEMBLE THE CHARIOTS, ENEMIES EVERYWHERE, and CHRONOFORM. On the same weekend, they also supported DISTANT’s headline show in Tallinn, Estonia, a day later. PRIDIAN will have their first ever show in Germany at the famous EUROBLAST FESTIVAL in Cologne on Saturday, October 5th. They will be joining bands such as CALIGULA’S HORSE, KYROS, CHAOSBAY, and AVALANCHE EFFECT.

The band also recently announced that they will be opening for UNPROCESSED and AVRALIZE on their stop in Tallinn, Estonia, on October 10th.

PRIDIAN is:

Laur Lindmäe – vocals
Jörg-Erik Hanikat – guitar
Martin Randalu – guitar
Robert Leht – drums

DEVIN TOWNSEND Launches Atmospheric & Heavy New Single ‘Jainism’

Devin Townsend recently announced the release of his forthcoming new studio album PowerNerd – available worldwide on October 25th. Now he presents a different side to PowerNerd , following the release of the anthemic title track last month. ‘Jainism’ is an atmospheric and heavy track, that combines crushing riffs with lush synths, and you can watch the video below.

As Devin explains: “This next song was based on my connection to music in the mid nineties. Also the idea of what it means to rend yourself artistically to an unresponsive world in 2024. I referenced The Wildhearts in the chorus, as Ginger is one of our generations greatest songwriters. In preparation for ‘The Moth’, PowerNerd is meant to look back and celebrate the past before moving forward. Thank you for the support…back to work here :)”
