THE PROGRESSIVE SOULS COLLECTIVE has released the new single and video ‘High Hopes’, Pink Floyd’s classic with a novel sound design.

The second TPSC single “High Hopes” from the upcoming cover album “Encore Vol. 1: Sonic Tributes” (Metalville Records – October 18th) marks a darker and progressive version of this legendary Pink Floyd classic. Mixed by multiple Grammy Award winning engineer Elliot Scheiner (Toto, Steely Dan, & many more) and mastered by Reuben Cohen (Metallica) this single features Simen Daniel Lindstad Børven (Leprous) on bass, Daniel Petri on drums, Luis Conte (Phil Collins) on percussions and once again Vladimir Lalic provides a highly emotional vocal performance.

With ‘Encore Vol. 1: Sonic Tributes’, TPSC presents another exciting release.

The material consists exclusively of cover songs, all hand-picked and, as expected, located in the extended prog area.

The first recordings began some time after the release of TPSC’s debut album ‘Sonic Birth’, continued through the corona pandemic and were continued during the sessions for the album ‘Sonic Rebirth’. The songs selected were personal favourites of Florian Zepf, creative head, producer and guitarist of the collective. The aim was to pay musical tribute to bands and musicians from Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Toto, among others, who had a great influence on Florian.

From a conceptual point of view, ‘Encore Vol. 1: Sonic Tributes’ fits seamlessly into the sequence of previous TPSC albums. ‘Sonic Birth’ and “Sonic Rebirth” are both concept albums with a thematic reference to the interplay between human development and technology. Musically, the ‘Sonic Birth’ and ‘Sonic Rebirth’ motifs can be found in some of the cover songs now presented, so that the creative and musical connection between the TPSC albums is maintained.

As usual with TPSC, the line-up on ‘Encore Vol. 1: Sonic Tributes’ is once again something to be seen and heard

The production of the entire album is very organic and equally powerful. Engineer legend Elliot Scheiner, 8-time Grammy winner and known from his collaboration with legends such as Toto, Steely Dan and Eric Clapton, was responsible for the very soulful mix. Mastering was handled by Reuben Cohen from the Grammy-winning Lurssen Mastering Studio (Metallica, among others).

Due to its extraordinary song selection, ‘Encore Vol. 1: Sonic Tributes’ should take a special place in the hearts of fans of cultivated prog music by storm.

BraveWords Records is excited to announce the signing of Jack Starr for a new solo album,”Out of the Darkness Pt 2″ to be released in 2025.

Jack talks about signing with BraveWords Records and the upcoming album, “I have been a fan of BraveWords for a long time and thought it was great that they started a record label, I knew that the label would be well run and professional like the magazine and website so for me it was a no brainer to be on that label and have them put out my new album. As far as what the album will be like, it is a combining of old school metal with the great vocals of Giles Lavery who is one of the best of the new metal vocalists who have recently emerged on the scene. The album also has two of the best metal drummers in metal Rhino and Mark Zonder. The rock solid bass playing is provided by Gene Cooper, veteran of many NYC bands. Jimmy Waldo the virtuoso keyboardist is also featured as well as Eric Juris who played brilliant guitar thru out the album contributing harmonies, leads and rhythms. Thomas Mergler played great guitar as well and whose brilliant production gave it a clean modern Euro sound while still keeping the old school metal sound that Jack Starr is known for.”

Metal Tim Henderson from BraveWords Records on signing Jack Starr, “What a historical addition to BraveWords Records, the ultra talented Jack Starr who brings a wealth of skill and music industry savvy to the label that dates back nearly 50 years.”

About Jack Starr:

Starr emerged on the rock and metal scene in 1981, forming, together with Joey Ayvazian, David DeFeis and Joe O’Rielly, the first incarnation of the heavy metal band Virgin Steele. The new band was selected in 1982 by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records to appear on the label’s compilation album U.S. Metal Volume 2. After only two albums, Virgin Steele of 1981 and Guardians of the Flame of 1982, Starr left Virgin Steele in 1983.

In 1984, Starr started his solo recording career with the album Out of the Darkness, featuring former Riot vocalist Rhett Forrester, members of The Rods and former Rainbow drummer Gary Driscoll. It was released in Europe by Music for Nations and was picked as one of the best albums of the year by the music magazines Kerrang! and Metal Forces.

Starr changed the name of his band to Jack Starr’s Burning Starr and between 1984 and 1989 he produced albums, both solo and with the band. The music of those albums was classic American eighties heavy metal, a style between Poison and Metallica. In 1989 the band dissolved and Starr joined short-lived bands like Strider and Smoke Stack Lightning.

In the following years, Starr once again assembled a group of musicians for a new incarnation of Burning Starr, which performed at the Magic Circle Festival 2008 and released the album Defiance on Manowar’s label Magic Circle Music in 2009. In 2011 they released Land of the Dead with Limb Music. The albums includes ex-Manowar guest musicians Ross the Boss and David Shankle. The band played at the 2013 Keep It True festival and recorded a DVD.

MEMBRANCE to Release New EP “Undead Remains” on October 11th

Venice death metallers MEMBRANCE announce the release of their new EP “Undead Remains”, out October 11th. With the announcement, the Italian band drops the first single “Corpse For Sale”, alongside a music video. Watch it HERE.

The band commented: “’Corpse For Sale’ is a metaphor of Venice seen as an abandoned corpse adrift, continuously stripped and plundered both by the worms that infest the city (Venetian people willing to sell it off to make money) and by those passing beasts (tourists) who just snatch a filthy morsel before leaving. A carcass that everyone is willing to see before it finally rots away”.

On the EP, MEMBRANCE say: “‘Undead Remains’ showcases what’s left from the sessions of our last album ‘Undead Island’: these are older and slightly more experimental tracks that the band was still working on during the recording of the full-length. For this reason they were not included in the album, as we wanted to give them more exposure in a subsequent release.
In addition to ‘Corpse For Sale’, among the new tracks with a more experimental style there is ‘Vengeance’s Price’, which features Sara Tacchetto, singer of Vallorch, on vocals. This song is inspired by Shakespeare’s play ‘The Merchant of Venice’: each verse is an act with a different character. The collaboration with Sara was born by entrusting her with two acts in which the protagonist is a woman.
To close this release, we have included a cover that is very dear to us, both for the themes covered and for its impact in the live setting, and a couple of live recordings of our most ferocious and punishing songs.
The artwork was painted by Francesco Cagali in the style of his previous work for us, while the mastering of the EP was handled by Luca Cocconi of Audiocore Studio, precisely to link these songs with the latest full-length ‘Undead Island’”.

Tracklist:

01. Corpse for Sale
02. Vengeance’s Price
03. Territory (Sepultura cover)
04. Acid Satanism (Live)
05. Tarantula (Live)

MEMBRANCE were created in 2012 as a death metal project by Davide Lazzarini, but they began their proper activity in 2015, with the completion of the band’s line-up. After some personnel changes, the group released the first album “Abyss” in 2017 (Envenomed Music) and the sophomore “Morality’s Collapse” in 2019 (Envenomed Music/Narcoleptica Productions), developing a sound strongly influenced by the groove of the Scandinavian HM2 driven death’n’roll.
In 2023, with the “Undead Island” full-length (Extreme Metal Music / Rockshot Records), the band finally introduced more prominent Venetian themes, references to the ancient local folklore and the current social situation in their lyrics, developing a more personal concept. The new songs are more compact and tighter, showcasing an old school death sound with black and thrash metal influences.
In the last few years, the band also got more active on the live front: MEMBRANCE have become a well-known name in the local scene, sharing the stage with acts such as Entombed A.D., Benediction, Marduk, Brujeria and Gutalax, to name a few.

Further news on MEMBRANCE‘s activities will be revealed in the coming weeks.
