SCHAMMASCH Share New Single ‘Image of the Infinite’

Swiss avant-garde experimentalists SCHAMMASCH has today shared a new single, titled Image of the Infinite – the second track to be taken from SCHAMMASCH‘s forthcoming sixth studio effort, and second in their The Maldoror Chants series, The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean, and features Norwegian vocal prodigy Kathrine Shepard (Sylvaine). The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean is set for release via Prosthetic Records on October 25.

Stream the single via Apple Music | TIDAL | Deezer | Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean here.

Commenting on the new single, SCHAMMASCH share: “Joining forces with Norwegian multi-instrumentalist and vocal prodigy Kathrine Shepard, better known as Sylvaine, SCHAMMASCH further explore their balladesque side on Image of the Infinite – a heartmelting post-punk hymn of oceanic beauty and dark romanticism that gives contrast to the overall bleakness inheriting Old Ocean.”

Originally conceived as a collection of shorter releases the idea behind The Maldoror Chants series has developed into a more elaborate shape and structure. This upcoming release will be the second in an ongoing series of works by SCHAMMASCH that draws from Les Chants de Maldoror – one of the 19th century’s most fascinating literary works which would later become part of the foundation of the surrealist movement. The first SCHAMMASCH release inspired by the book was 2017’s The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite. The poetic novel was written by Comte de Lautréamont (also known as Isidore Lucien Ducasse) and published in the late 1860s. His writings have proved influential to other writers, musicians and visual artists over the years – including the likes of Dalí and Magritte.

For The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean, SCHAMMASCH have specifically drawn inspiration from sections of the text that serve as a hymn to the splendour of the ocean as well as a provocative comparison between ocean and humanity, sardonically highlighting the latter’s inferiority. Finding a kinship to the evocative, melancholic sense of vastness, loneliness and societal aversion conjured up in the text, SCHAMMASCH’s chief songwriter, C.S.R embraced the book’s spirit and surreal lucidity during the persevering difficulties of the past years, resulting in personal growth and, yet again, a transformation of SCHAMMASCH’s artistic horizon. Old Ocean inherits an underlying sense of a longing; a longing to step outside of human society, to wash away the profanities and petty struggles – to dissolve into the unfathomable yet somewhat peaceful void of the sea, vanishing into the great unknown.

Sonically, the album charts the continued evolution in the sound of SCHAMMASCH; dark, gothy undertones rise often to the surface with sultry spoken word taking centre stage at various points. A pulsating, monolithic rhythm flows through the album with their atmospheric take on post-black metal providing a majestic backdrop – replete with a love for detail and the use of unusual elements like accordions, classical orchestration or industrial soundscapes – to explore existential thoughts on humanity and its ambivalent relationship to nature. Ethereal layers are delicately applied with the additional vocals of Kathrine Shepard (Sylvaine) on They Have Found Their Master and Image of the Infinite.

As has increasingly become the case, many of the album’s production duties were carried out by C.S.R himself, maintaining his introspective gaze on the work under creation. Additional engineering was handled by Michael Zech (The Ruins of Beverast, Secrets of the Moon), with further engineering, mixing and mastering courtesy of Markus Stock (Empyrium, The Vision Bleak). As with The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite, the artwork for the release was created by Mexican surrealist Héctor Pineda, with the layout completed by C.S.R’s own Eye of Saros.

Whilst the music and lyrics that make up The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean unfurled over the past decade-plus before being committed to tape, the resulting album is a vital and fresh sounding addition to the SCHAMMASCH discography. It may just be their most coherent work to date; an opus rich in creativity, leaving much to discover.

The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean tracklist:
1. Crystal Waves
2. A Somber Mystery
3. Your Waters Are Bitter
4. They Have Found Their Master
5. Image of the Infinite
6. I Hail You, Old Ocean

Upcoming SCHAMMASCH tour dates:

Valkyrie’s Fire are a Symphonic Power Metal band from Nashville, born of true emotional passion that unlocks the deepest mysteries of the soul and ignites our hearts! The band just premiered a new music video for their epic power metal victory anthem “Nectar of the Gods“. This is the second single & music video taken from their upcoming EP album Ascension which will be released on November 8, 2024 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced and mixed by Joey Grimaldi, and mastered by Jack Kosto (Firewind, Seven Spires). The music video for “Nectar of the Gods” was directed by Austin Dellamano of Weems Creative and filmed at Flavor 90’s Bar in Nashville, TN.

“Far too often, people tend to worry about the future, and they often neglect to embrace the present” says male vocalist Adam Sanders. “There is so much to be grateful for, each moment is a celebration of this amazing life we all live, so why not take the time (at least briefly) to celebrate that life and smile – perhaps even with a drink – with some of those people that you hold dear to you?” Female vocalist Bettie Floyd adds, “Adam wrote this as a fun celebration song. In doing so, we wanted the music video to echo that same lighthearted spirit, so we chose to do this video with some of our closest friends in a bar we performed at early on in our career, that took a chance on our band and believed in us.” Bassist Dave Hale continues “While the title pays tribute to Norse mythology, we wanted the video to be more of a modern-day interpretation of the fun we share with our friends, rather than an exact depiction of a Norse mead hall. Austin our director (who once-again delivered on the vision we presented him) understood our vision, and we are proud of his work and his ability to show the world what we wanted to deliver – a fun, exciting celebration of enjoying life with some of our closest friends.”

Valkyrie’s Fire, a symphonic power metal band from Nashville, will deliver an electrifying debut album, Ascension on November 8, 2024. This release is a dynamic fusion of soaring vocals, fiery guitar riffs, and a commanding bass-driven rhythm section that sets them apart. Known as a symphonic metal powerhouse in the American South, Valkyrie’s Fire truly lives up to the “power” in their genre. With dual vocalists—one male and one female—the band creates a captivating interplay of harmony, unison, and octave-trading solos, weaving together their voices like a seamless, magical force. The guitar work packs a punch, with verses that carry enough gritty, chugging riffs to satisfy even the most hardcore metal fans, while the solos burn with intensity and precision. The bass and drums are just as complex and vibrant, combining deep, heavy tones with intricate, daring rhythms. Ascension is more than just an EP; it’s a bold artistic statement. Though many of the lyrics draw from Norse mythology, a common thread in the genre, Valkyrie’s Fire brings a fresh, modern twist. Tracks touch on themes of pushing past our limits, bearing emotional scars, and confronting the emptiness left by toxic relationships. The album challenges listeners to reflect on the ways we numb ourselves—through vice and self-deception—only to realize we’ve stolen from our own future. Yet, even in the face of these struggles, we are reminded to rise again.

AMARANTHE Release New Music Video for ‘Interference’

Sweden’s masters of thunderous, melodic futurism, AMARANTHE, release their brand new music video for ‘Interference‘.

The band comments: “We have been loving to perform “The Catalyst” songs for you all over the world in the last six months since the release, and it has truly been an incredible journey! This music video of “Interference” shot at the legendary O13 Poppodium in Tilburg, Netherlands, perfectly captures the atmosphere you guys created together with us, and we are now very excited indeed to share it with all of you! We cannot wait to reconnect to you, our wonderful fans, and conjure up more of this magic together!”

Formed in 2008, AMARANTHE walked their own unique path from the start. With a sound that combined the sharpest, cutting edges of melodic metal, electronic rock and razor-sharp pop, their impact was immediate and undeniable. Kicking off with their self-titled debut in 2011, the Swedes blazed a trail through the European metal scene and beyond, swiftly establishing themselves as a dazzling one-off, not least due to the unprecedented triple vocal attack that paired clean tones with exquisite melodic sensibilities and feral growls. Over the next few years, the sextet steadily grew in stature, releasing a series of praised studio records that jabbed persistently at the boundaries of modern metal.
