‘”I’ve had to work for many years not to be seen as something that has to be naked”.
Summer time is “replay time” on THE PIT with ‘Soaring Highs and Brutal Lows: The Voices of Women in Metal’ celebrating the stories of eight female vocalists in the heavy metal genre.
Through personal interviews, behind the scenes insights, and concert footage, these women describe in their own words, their choices, their lives, and the hardships and triumphs of being center stage in what is widely perceived as a male-dominated music scene.
Explore the energy and emotion of heavy metal through the stories and voices of some of the most prominent women who bring it to life.
Follow the paths of these artists (Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy, The Agonist), Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Doro Pesch (Warlock), Simone Simons (Epica), Charlotte Wessels (Delain), Marcela Bovio (Stream of Passion), Anneke van Giersbergen (Agua de Annique, The Gathering) & Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus)) working to achieve their dreams, learn what drives them, and how their journeys have unfolded so far.

Ahead of its release this Thursday on the fierce Aesthetic Death roster, Everything Is Noise today presents an exclusive premiere of “Nightmares Devour The Waking World”, the devastating new LP from ROT COVEN. Stream the album at THIS LOCATION.
ROT COVEN is a 2-piece, noise-drenched industrial death metal/sludge band.
MZ sings and plays bass and drums while DD focuses more on guitar, then both members slather everything in layers of noise boxes, scrap metal, ritual drums and processed field recordings. This duo has been creating music together in various bands for around twenty years.
Born of a lifelong love of cosmic horror, heavy riffs, and creeped-out industrial noise, the band that would become ROT COVEN first saw the light of day during the COVID-19 lockdowns of spring 2020.
The initial idea was to fuse ominous dark ambient synth textures with pounding “doom” style drums, but bass, guitars, vocals, and scrap metal percussion were quickly added to the mix resulting in a room-shaking cacophony equal parts Autopsy, Chu Ishikawa and the slow crawling No-Wave dirges of early SWANS.
ROT COVEN‘s first physical release “Nightmares Devour the Waking World” pairs two full-length albums: Phase I (initally self-released through the duo’s bandcamp) and the unreleased follow-up Phase II. Phase I builds colossal sludge riffs out of lurking death industrial dronescapes with the final track erupting into a supernova of scorching psychedelic leads and almost “doomgaze” melodicism, while Phase II descends deeper into the abyss, adding elements of unrelentingly ugly death metal to their apocalyptic scum-dirge.
Both albums explore a planet ravaged by cataclysms – storms of poison ash, churning acidic seas, and deserts that spread like a sentient organism. Colony collapse disorder on a galactic scale. A world where nature is so thoroughly gutted that reality itself starts to corrode, letting something seep in from “outside.” A hostile consciousness so massive and utterly alien that the last remaining humans begin to worship it as a god:
Hideous rituals of blood and fire. Cathedrals sculpted from scrap metal and the shattered bones of the dead. The soul slowly, inexorably, replaced by void.
ROT COVEN draws influence from Godflesh, Coffins, Abruptum, Wallowing, Body Void, Ramleh, Pain Teens, White Mice, Throbbing Gristle, Missing Foundation, Melvins, Flipper, early Butthole Surfers, Mighty Sphincter, No Trend, Einstürzende Neubauten, Lustmord and Megaptera.
Tracklist:
Phase I: 01. Blood Pours Out of the Sun 02. Feast of the Rotted Mother 03. Antimatter Halo 04. Queen of the Void 05. Those Who Worship Fallen Stars
Phase II: 01. Inverted Chasm 02. Psychological Contamination Zone 03. Accretion Disk Necropolis

ELOUR (pronounced “allure”) is what Elizabeth Ghandour categorizes as Femme Rock. Elizabeth’s direct lyrics, diverse background, and classically trained voice, combined with Ned Barclay’s soaring guitar, Joe Scarpellino’s tasty bass, and Ryan Vee’s creative drumming, yields a sound that’s raucous and rebellious, and yet very stylish.
I see my music as empowering for females because of my honesty. I think women often try to keep their emotions in check because it’s so easy to be called crazy or hysterical or to be seen as “too much” or too intense or aggressive, while males seem to get away with much more, without being labeled or ostracized. I like to lean into those labels and challenge those stereotypes by showing that there is strength in showing emotions, even if they’re emotions that are discouraged for women, such as lust, rage, or anger. “Good Girl” challenges the notion that women should suppress valid emotions to satisfy some external (patriarchal) version of “good.” “Reputation” and “Beautiful Girl,” each in their way, go further and recommend throwing off unhealthy, limiting societal chains.
I titled my album “Blood Running” after a lyric from the song “Ha.” The song displays the anger I felt after a relationship breakup, but underneath the anger was immense hurt. I was unseen and my pain and struggle didn’t matter. I feel it’s a bit of a female anthem because as females we are often dismissed or unacknowledged. We play so many valuable roles in a society that is still run by men. Our effort seems endless and often we are left feeling powerless. I hope that the album inspires people, and women especially, to find validity in all their emotional expression, and to claim their own power.
ELOUR is:
Elizabeth Ghandour: Songwriter, lead vocalist, rhythm guitar Joe Scarpellino: Bass, backing vocals Ned Barclay: Lead guitar Ryan Vee: Drums
