Tomorrow, death metal legends DEICIDE return to European soil, celebrating live their 13th studio album “Banished By Sin,” which was released on April 26, 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM).
Provocateurs by trade and dominant by nature, the Floridians, featuring founders Glen Benton (bass/lead vocals) and Steve Asheim (drums), as well as notables Kevin Quirion (guitars) and Taylor Nordberg (guitars), will set the stages of the main summer festivals on fire, also gracing their loyal European fans with a few club shows.
“I’m at peak performance now,” warns Benton. “A Glen Benton doing this for fun is a dangerous Glen Benton. We’re going to brutalize this planet. We’re coming for you!”
Cementing DEICIDE‘s legacy and influence in the death metal scene, “Banished By Sin” represents DEICIDE ascending to new heights, with 12 tracks that delve into themes of darkness, sin, and corruption. The album promises to be a significant addition to the band’s storied discography, offering both new and long-time fans a profound listening experience.

About DEICIDE
Originating from the depths of Tampa, Florida in 1989, DEICIDE were conjured by Steve Asheim and Glen Benton. Rising to infamy with their second album, Legion, they have since become a monolithic figure in the death metal universe. Their catalog of destruction includes twelve studio albums, a live album, two compilations, and two live DVD’s. Notably, their first two albums, “Deicide” and “Legion,” stand as monumental achievements in death metal sales. DEICIDE, notorious for their relentless assault on the senses and unapologetic brutality, have unleashed their thirteenth album – a testament to their undying legacy in crafting the most punishing soundscapes in death metal.

Last Friday, July 19, the new, original and elaborate music video by Gelsenkirchen (the famous home town of Sodom) based Groove Thrashers SMORRAH for the song “Buried Underneath” was released, taken from the 2024 debut album “Welcome To Your Nightmare“.
The video was recorded in a regional mine, the Recklinghausen training mine, with a decidedly thrilling horror factor …
As a special feature in the new video, Saint Barbara can also be seen, but in an absolutely unexpected, frightening way … she does exactly the opposite of her destiny and brings devastating evil in a deeply demonic evilness! Saint Barbara has been venerated as a patron saint since the Middle Ages, especially for protection against premature death – and she is also invoked as a protector of the dying. She is venerated as the patron saint of miners because of her escape through a crevice.
• Edited and directed by Marcel Grigull • Produced by DraculSnake Film Productions
Both the song and the music video are designed as a deeply respectful tribute to the band’s beloved hometown and the region itself. The video even features two of the most loyal “Necrosouls“, as the band calls their diehard followers and supporters.
Marius Wegener • Vocals 🔥 ➤➤➤ “I still often remember when I used to get the coal out of the cellar with my father in winter. The warmth that the stove produced every winter day was somehow different. It was pleasant and honest. We also used to live right next to an old colliery housing estate in the south of Gelsenkirchen, which can also be seen in our new video. A few houses are still heated with coal today and when I walk past there in the evening, the familiar smell immediately takes me back to the 1990s. It was a great time for me back then, when I met friends who have remained friends to this day. That’s why it means so much to me that two of our most loyal supporters took part in the filming. The mines are now all closed and coal is very scarce in the region. This makes cohesion, community and respectful cooperation all the more important. This also applies to us as a band when dealing with our own fans. Qualities that we have probably inherited from the hard-working miners underground and that have been good companions to us so far. Let’s keep it that way! Good luck! Auf loik!“
Pumper • Guitars 🔥 ➤➤➤ “With 140 years of history, 14 mines and around 70 shafts, our hometown of Gelsenkirchen was once pretty much the mining center of Europe and the miners were the epitome of the often quoted ‚grafter‘. I think that the hard but honest work underground has significantly shaped the mentality of the people here in the ‚Ruhrpott‘ area and taught us virtues such as diligence, reliability and solidarity. My thanks go out to the two Necrosouls Jacky and Marvin! This video would not have been possible without you! Stay as you are and good luck! Auf loik!”
Christian ‘Kraje’ Krajewski • Bass 🔥 ➤➤➤ “The mining culture here in the Ruhr area was something special. My uncles worked in mines themselves back then and I remember how I used to listen with rapt attention as a child when they told stories from underground. They were all buddies down there who stood up for each other. Honest, hard work that was carried out with virtues that have clearly been lost in today’s ‘work-life balance’ and ‘4-day week’ generation. That’s why the miners should always be remembered fondly!”
Raphael Swierczynski • Drums 🔥 ➤➤➤ “I often like to think back to my youth. I remember when my father tried to teach me about mining and its virtues when I was young, which he did very well. He and my grandfather were once miners who had to work hard underground. That’s why it’s a special honor for me to be able to slip into the role of a miner myself in our video for ‚Buried Underneath‘ and get a feel for what mine working must have been like for them. Gelsenkirchen, a city that was strongly influenced by the coal industry, is one of the reasons why I am proud to call it my home. In addition, my favorite club, FC Schalke 04, still honors the tradition of the miners and proudly remembers the miners of days gone by. Grafters and miners like my father and grandfather were. That’s why I sing the miners‘ song with all my might at every home game and if the mines still existed today, I would certainly be a miner too!”

Though they’ve more than earned their distinguished title as the samurai of death metal, Defiled have never had the patience to suffer any fools. For the past 30 years, Yusuke Sumita and his lethal band of warriors have been on a war path, leaving nothing but inevitable ruin in their grimy wake. They’ve conquered crowds from across their native Tokyo all the way to Milwaukee Metal Festival while touring with their fellow legends in Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.
Now, just two years removed from reaching the highest level of straight-forward, bone-crushing death metal, Defiled have topped themselves once again on their upcoming eighth album. Horror Beyond Horror is the kind of good ol’ fashioned ass-kicking that only a true master can deliver. It slices and dices from all directions, but their new single cuts straight to the bloody truth.
Ever since they clawed out of Tokyo’s underground back in 1992, Defiled have carved out a reputation as one of the world’s finest practitioners of relentlessly raw death metal. “Those who prefer the schools of olde should be right at home”, Lambgoat wrote in praise of their last barbaric offering.
But Horror Beyond Horror proves that Defiled can still inflict maximum punishment in ways that are strangely satisfying. Like a poisonous dart, the band come come shooting out of the shadows on “Smoke and Mirrors”. Blast beats pummel at unforeseen angles, only to shift around every corner into a dizzying flurry of drum fills.
“Smoke and Mirrors” will toy with even the most decorated of battle vests, but Defiled know when it’s time to vanquish foes with a brutal finishing move. “Every lie has been revealed”, fearless frontman Shinichiro Hamada shouts, taking aim at perpetual frauds and tyrannical technocrats. Upon getting the signal from Hamada’s screaming whammy bar, the band charge straight into the pit of battle with a grisly, grease-slicked groove that will snap plenty of necks on their upcoming Japanese tour.
“We are very excited to kick off our tour in support of our new album in our home country”, says guitarist Yusuke Sumita. “If you’re in the area, be sure to join us. See you on the road”.
The video for “Smoke and Mirrors” was filmed at Katakai Pier in Kujukuri, Chiba, Japan in May 2024. It was directed and edited by Seaside 99 Works. Special thanks to Kujukuri Gyogyou Kumiai.
In customary fashion, this fall, Defiled are welcoming Horror Beyond Horror with a tour of Japan.
Don’t miss the chance to watch these legends shred through “Smoke and Mirrors”, “To See Beyond the Wall” and other nasty rippers off their new album for the very first time.

More praise for Defiled
“The one-two punch of tight musicianship and an inclination to pummel into submission without the need for flashy antics makes for a dazzling experience” – Ghost Cult
“Encapsulates both the oldschool familiarity and the modern aesthetics of death metal” – Metal Trenches

From the depths of Tokyo’s darkest alleys, Defiled have emerged once again, claws sharpened, eyes bloodshot, ready to unleash a fresh dose of unadulterated savagery with their latest full-length studio album, Horror Beyond Horror. Marrying the grotesque with technical prowess, these samurais of sickness are poised to carve another notch into the archives of death metal’s sordid history.
Since crawling from the primordial soup of the underground scene in the early ’90s, Defiled have forged a path littered with broken souls. Their journey of destruction first sank its teeth into the international jugular with Erupted Wrath, mixed by the masterful Jim Morris in Tampa, Florida. This brutal assault opened gates to a global bloodletting, from leveling stages in South Korea to crushing skulls at the Milwaukee Metalfest, and not even the November to Dismember fest could foresee the carnage they’d bring.
Commandeering the technical tightrope between anarchy and precision, Defiled evolved, much like an aberrant spawn isolated on the Galapagos, grotesque yet ultimately superior. Their subsequent onslaughts — Ugliness Revealed, Divination, and the sheer violence of In Crisis — built a monument to atrocity that ascends to new heights with Horror Beyond Horror.
Taking no prisoners in their three-decades-long campaign of terror, Defiled have become the indestructible behemoth of Asia’s death metal scene, powered by the relentless engine of their oldschool roots and the twisted wreckage of technical thrash and progressive rock innovation.
But enough with the history lesson, you came here for the carnage, didn’t you? Horror Beyond Horror is a 14-track massacre, riddled with riffs sharp enough to slit your throat and a rhythmic onslaught that’ll pulverize your pathetic bones. Each track, from the visceral “Smoke and Mirrors” to the haunting “To See Behind the Wall”, is a calculated strike, precision-engineered to leave no survivors. Let’s not forget the eponymous “Horror Beyond Horror”, a track that cements Defiled’s legacy as harbingers of the apocalypse.
With a sound as raw as exposed nerve endings and as unrefined as a mass grave, Defiled stands defiantly apart from the polished poseurs and shameless sellouts. They don’t peddle in cheap gimmickry or nostalgia; they deal in the currency of pure, unfiltered destruction. As they look out upon the charred landscape of the genre they’ve helped to define, Defiled is not content to rest on their laurels. Horror Beyond Horror sees them, once again, ascending to the blood-soaked throne of death metal sovereignty.

Horror punk metal act ZOMBEAST, who just released their new album “Heart Of Darkness” via Massacre Records, licensed from Fiend Force Records (order HERE!), have been announced to join the “Hell Nights” 2024 Tour!
The Cologne Halloween institution Hell Nights is finally going on tour again! After almost 1,500 horror fans visited the spookily charming Carlswerk in Cologne last year, and due to the high demand and outstanding line-up, German cities Hamburg and Leipzig are now also on the agenda – of course also in locations that convey the right atmosphere.
As always on this occasion, and for the first time in years also beyond, Europe’s No. 1 horror punks – THE OTHER – invite high class bands from all over the world to celebrate Halloween with them. Since 2002, their hometown of Cologne has developed into a global horror punk pilgrimage site that attracts fans from all over the world every year. The line-up in 2024 consists of The 69 Eyes, Nekromantix, The Other, Zombeast, and Special Guest in Leipzig: Mad Sin.
Fans – who will come in large numbers in elaborate costumes – can not only look forward to some of the scene’s most famous acts, but also to a special program featuring scare actors who mingle with the audience and a spooky photo booth for lasting memories.
Helsinki-based doom metal band Denigrate releases their fourth full length album titled To the Goddess Unknown later this year via Inverse Records. Now they have released the first single and music video Crystal Rest from the upcoming album. The song spits versatility, lingers on doom and death yet to be crowned with vulnerability. As life itself.
Since Denigrate was found back in ’96, the inevitable vibe of the band was to be dark, melancholy, tormented, observative.
The quantity of albums released is really not the thing in this band. From the first released album in 2003 to the latest 4th one in 2024 called “To The Gods Unknown”, decades has changed and so has the band.
After no more than two albums released, after big-time local momentum with a finnish cover song, after mandatory hiatus, after some line-up changes, Denigrate 2024 introduces their absolutely greatest masterpiece to date and shows what only truely experienced bunch of members can achieve.
