INFERNO FESTIVAL NORWAY 2025 is pleased to reveal the first wave of bands for next year’s highly anticipated edition, which will once again take place in Oslo (NO) from April 17-20 for another blasphemous Easter! The festival now welcomes 1349, BLOOD INCANTATION, AETERNUS, SETH, ABYSSIC, SPECTRAL WOUND, ANGIST, BYTHOS, VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA + SYN to the lineup, with more TBA! Tickets and passes can be found HERE.

1349

The Norwegian black metal band 1349 was founded back in 1997 and has maintained a steady course ever since. With pure aggression and brutality in their musical expression, 1349 has made a mark on the Norwegian black metal scene. To date, 1349 has released eight albums, three EPs, and a live album. Earlier this year, they released the single ”Ash of Ages,” indicating that 1349 is back in full force with more malevolence. Whatever it may be, you can see it at Inferno Metal Festival 2025!

BLOOD INCANTATION

Blood Incantation is an American death metal band that has been active since 2011. The band is known for blending psychedelic elements into their death metal. The band gained a lot of attention when they released ”Hidden History of the Human Race” in 2019 and have since played live extensively. In October this year, the band’s next album, titled ”Absolute Elsewhere,” will be released, and it’s something to look forward to. This will be Blood Incantation’s first concert at Inferno Metal Festival.

AETERNUS

Norwegian Aeternus was founded back in 1993 by vocalist and guitarist Ares in Bergen. The band was one of the pioneers of dark metal, combining black metal with death metal, and hints of classical music as well as folk music. The band members have extensive experience, having played in bands like Gorgoroth, Taake, Gaahls Wyrd, Hellbutcher, and Phantom Fire. Aeternus has released nine albums to date. The latest is called ”Philosopher” and came out last year. Thus, it is time to bring the band back to Oslo, where they haven’t played since Inferno 2013.

SETH

Formed in 1995, SETH is highly regarded as the pioneers of French black metal. Since then, the band has released six albums, an EP, and a live album. Already on July 14, we can add a new album to the list, as ‘La France des maudits’ will be released. The band has only played in Norway once before, and that was back in 2005, also at Inferno Metal Festival. It is a pleasure to have the band back after twenty years.

ABYSSIC

Abyssic is a Norwegian band that plays a unique form of funeral death-doom, with black metal influences. Their signature is enhanced by orchestrations and upright bass. It all started back in 1997 under the name Abyssic Dreams, but little was done. In 2012-13, Memnock (Susperia), Elvorn (Susperia), and André Aaslie (Funeral) revived the band—now simply as Abyssic. Together with Asgeir Mickelson (Ex-Borknagar, Ihsahn), they recorded the debut album ”A Winter’s Tale” in 2016. In 2016, Tjodalv (Susperia, Ex-Dimmu Borgir, Old Man’s Child) and Makhashanah (Asagraum) joined Abyssic. This will be the band’s first concert at Inferno Metal Festival.

SPECTRAL WOUND

Québec horde Spectral Wound plays black metal. Furious and visceral, untrammeled by esoteric posture or grasping idealism. It is music for the poisoned, the futile, the debauched and profane. The blooming of a flower of corruption, torn by cold winds. The Canadians will be unleashing their fourth studio album, ‘Songs Of Blood and Mire,’ on August 23, 2024, delivering an elegy of the void, seething with the venom and clamor of an ever-emptying world.

ANGIST

Angist is a blackened death metal band from Reykjavik, Iceland. The band was founded by Edda and Gyða back in 2009. After creating a two-track demo the following year, they recorded the EP ‘Circle of Suffering’ in 2011. After playing several high-profile concerts and festivals in the following years, the band went into hibernation in 2017. Angist has now awakened from their slumber and is working on their debut album. This will be Angist’s first time playing in Norway.

BYTHOS

Bythos is a Finnish black metal band with members from bands like Behexen, Ajattara, Chamber of Unlight, Deathchain, and Forgotten Horror, just to name a few… the list is long. Bythos released their debut album ‘The Womb of Zero’ on Norwegian Terratur Possessions in 2020. Earlier this year, they released the follow-up ‘Chthonic Gates Unveiled’ on the same label. The band has rarely played live, so the concert at Inferno Metal Festival in 2025 will be a unique chance to see the band.

SYN

Syn is a relatively new one-man black metal band from Norway. In 2023, Syn released the debut album ‘Villfarelse’ on Norwegian Terratur Possessions. With nods to bands like Ulver and Forgotten Woods, mixed with the atmosphere of Vemod and the aggression of Gorgoroth, you might get a sense of what Syn is about. If not, you can find out at Inferno Metal Festival 2025.

VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA

With members named after classic Norwegian black metal bands and a fresh album titled ‘Death Rave,’ there is little doubt that Violent Magic Orchestra from Japan has little regard for rigid genre boundaries and rule-bound musical approaches. To such an extent that it is more natural to describe VMO as a visual art and music project rather than a traditional band. Well-suited with descriptions like ‘Kraftwerk gone black metal’ and ‘Blackened Aphex Twin,’ Violent Magic Orchestra shatters the boundaries between club and concert formats in a spectacle that simply MUST be experienced live when they play in Norway for the first time.

KINGCROW Release Thrilling Second Single + Video ‘Night Drive’

For the past two decades, KINGCROW have flown at the forefront of Italy’s progressive metal scene. But on the band’s new album, Hopium, they dive down a rabbit hole into a world where dreams are just illusions. Their new single, “Night Drive”, drifts slowly before revving into madness.

Hopium is out August 23 on Season of Mist.

From the clubs of Italy all the way to the global stage, Kingcrow have always soared above the fray. But “Night Drive” is rooted in escape. Like a cinematic thriller, the song’s eerily hypnotic acoustics and sedate electronic pulse escalate into slithery grooves, slamming synths and a chaotic, headbanging guitar solo. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a dark night of the soul.

The video for “Night Drive” was directed by Riccardo Nifosi and Devilnax. It stars the actress Federica Zongoli, alongside Kingcrow’s vocalist Diego Marchesi.

The first incarnation of the band  was originally founded in Rome, Italy, by brothers Diego Cafolla (guitars) and Manuel Thundra Cafolla (drums) under the name of “Earth Shaker”.

Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Raven” and driven by a will of change, the band’s name was soon altered into KINGCROW and a couple of self-produced demos/albums where recorded under the KINGCROW moniker: Something Unknown(2001), Insider (2004) and Timetropia (2006).

In the early months of 2010 the band finished recording their new album “Phlegethon” that was released in June of the same year under the “Scarlet Records” label.

It was considered on an international level as a relevant masterpiece and was classed as one of the elite progressive metal albums of the year. It has been near the top of the “album of the year” charts in some international prog-rock websites. Phlegethon promotion lasted for about two years and a half.

During the same year, the band recorded the new album “In Crescendo” that was released in February 2013 by the American label “Sensory Records.

The band toured  along with Pain Of Salvation in North America  in April and May, 2013. In 2015 the band released the album “Eidos” and toured Europe as Headliners. Meanwhile KINGCROW signed a management deal with GlassVille Music, house of very well known progressive acts like Pain Of Salvation and Riverside among others.

The band recorded the new album titled “The Persistence”.

The album was released on September 7th via Sensory Records and received great reviews and ended on a lot of “best of 2018” lists on magazines and webzines.

The upcoming album “Hopium” marks another step forward in pushing boundaries remarking the restless progressive  attitude of the band in incorporating countless influences into a personal sound.

Describing the band today is quite a difficult task, but one could state that the influence of different kinds of music, from progressive rock , ambient music, alternative rock and metal are all present in the music of KINGCROW.

With each release KINGCROW has taken a step further away from their original roots and is regarded today as one of the most exciting bands that Italy has to offer.

Their fourth studio album “Review Your Choices” marked Pentagram’s sixth comeback after several lineup and label changes. These acclaimed godfathers of Doom Metal proved once more indestructible by drug addiction, break ups, bad deals, jail terms, chronic illness, satanic blood sacrifices and various acts of self-destruction. Main-man and singer Bobby Liebling has kept his band alive for over 35 years now and might easily be awarded the title of “longest serving cult band” – highly acclaimed by fans, press and fellow musicians alike. “Review Your Choices” marked the return of multi-instrumentalist Joe Hasselvander to join Bobby Liebling in his eternal quest to create the heaviest sound possible. The album features a mix of re-recorded lost Liebling tracks from the 70’s and stellar new numbers penned by Hasselvander, which gave “Review Your Choices” an extra heavy feeling. Pentagram once again set a standard to be followed by such illustrious followers as Cathedral, Spirit Caravan, Goatsnake, St. Vitus, Trouble or High On Fire among many others. Dive down deep into gloom and despair with this classic doom recording!

Doom is made out of 666 tons heavy riffing, vocals filled with pain, regret and spite as well as leaden song structures stretched taut to the point of ripping. Pentagram embody all those virtues like no other contender in this oldest of all metal genres founded by none other than Black Sabbath. Many have named Pentagram the true heirs of those originators of Heavy Metal and honorably dubbed them ‘the American Black Sabbath’. In this sixth incarnation of the band, doom lord Bobby Liebling had reunited with drummer Joe Hasselvander, who had already been a member of Pentagram twice before. Hasselvander played all the instruments, while Liebling added his matchless vocals. “Sub-Basement” was the second output of this line-up and is regarded as the most Rock N’ Roll effort of the doomsters ever. On top of Pentagram‘s perfect doom sound an irresistible groove and capturing catchiness was added, which made the album an all-time favourite for many fans.

PENTAGRAM is considered one of the very pioneers of the doom metal genre alongside Black Sabbath and Witchfinder General. Formed in 1971 in Virginia by Bobby Liebling (vocals) and Geof O’Keefe (drums) with Vincent McAllister on guitar and Greg Mayne on bass, the band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release their self-titled full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with a new lineup. With vocalist Bobby Liebling remaining the only original band member throughout the band’s 50-year career span, Pentagram has welcomed many well-respected musicians from the heavy and doom metal scene, with members spending time in other acts such as Raven, The Obsessed, Place of Skulls, Internal Void, Spirit Caravan.

Now a new chapter dawns on the mighty PENTAGRAM, and the modern lore unfolds with the arrival of an electrifying new lineup. Around legendary frontman and band founder Bobby Liebling comes the melodic power of guitarist Tony Reed — known for fronting Seattle rock stalwarts Mos Generator as well as producing and engineering some of the modern heavy scene’s cornerstone releases from Electric Wizard to Blues Pills — and the sheer grooves of Scooter Haslip, also of Mos Generator and former Saltine. The new lineup is rounded out by a scene heavyweight with internationally renowned drummer Henry Vasquez of Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, The Skull/Legion Of Doom and Sourvein fame. The band recently announced their first-ever US festival appearance with a co-headline slot at Levitation Festival in Austin with heavy pillars The Sword on November 3rd.

Henry Vasquez – drums
Tony Reed – Guitar
Scooter Haslip – Bass

Indonesian CRANIAL DISORDER Stream “Congenital Depravity” LP Ahead of Release

Posted by metalshockfinland on July 3, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: CRANIAL DISORDER. Leave a comment

Ahead of its release next week on the twisted Lethal Scissor Records roster, Decibel Magazine today presents an exclusive stream of “Congenital Depravity”, the bludgeoning debut album from  Indonesian death metal squad CRANIAL DISORDER.

Listen to “Congenital Depravity” HERE.

The fresh eight track offering “Congenital Depravity” marks the outfit’s Lethal Scissor Records debut, and is the successor to their acclaimed “PromoSick 2022” demo. Formed in 2019, CRANIAL DISORDER has brought a breath of fresh air to the scene and has delighted fans and underground connoisseurs alike.

With this album, CRANIAL DISORDER continue to sharpen their sound, which faithfully captures the essence of late ‘90s and early 2000’s brutal death metal. The band’s influences are no secret, but rattling off a list of classic death metal influences doesn’t do justice to the impact that CRANIAL DISORDER achieve with their music, a sound that is as relentless as it is morbid.

The songs are generally aggressive and pummeling, leaving the listener with little or no respite from the assault, but even at breakneck speed, there’s a compositional intricacy on display. Riff is piled upon monstrous riff and razor-wire solos slice, gleaming, through filth as CRANIAL DISORDER bring us a new level of sickening death metal power.

For fans of: Suffocation, Disgorge, Disavowed, Pyaemia

Tracklist:

01. Kobar Bumi
02. The Remained Lust
03. Perpetual Dismemberment
04. Period of Atrocity
05. Inebriated Flesh
06. Exalting the Perversion
07. Compulsive Savagery
08. Traitor

THIRTEEN GOATS Present Music Video for ‘Murder Lives In The Heart’ from Upcoming Album “Capricorn Rising”

“Capricorn Rising” is the upcoming concept album and extreme metal rock opera from Thirteen Goats, which will be released for metalheads around the world next month. Is it thrash? Death? Groove? Thirteen Goats don’t care, and neither should you. This Vancouver four-piece tramples all over subgenre conventions to create an alchemical style of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They have a music video out now for the single “Murder Lives in the Heart”, which lead vocalist and guitarist Graham K. Miles comments on:

“The song is about the nature of vengeance. Vengeance feels good when you’ve been wronged. But just because something feels good, that doesn’t make it right.

I wrote the song after getting my heart broken, to remind myself that the pain would make me a monster if I let it. In the story we’re telling on the record, our main character Shepherd experiences that when he loses his faith in humanity and sells his soul to become the Antichrist.

The video explores the same theme from a different perspective. It’s about three women who murder the members of the band one by one and reanimate them into zombies. Their reasons are never shown, but we get a strong sense that they feel justified in what they’re doing.

Whether it’s right or wrong is left up to the audience. We’re not here to tell you when revenge is okay or not—but we want to show that it always has a spiritual cost.”

It’s been two years since the release of their debut, “Servants of the Outer Dark”, and the band has worked their asses off to bring everything fans loved about that record back with a vengeance—the frenzied fretwork, the humongous hooks, and the subtly humorous lyrics that mask much darker and more serious subjects. Two songs (including this one) also feature guest vocals by Carly Ellen Jones. Thirteen Goats is recommended for fans of Carcass, Lamb of God, and Mastodon.

Watch and listen to the video for “Murder Lives in the Heart” on MetalInsider HERE.

Due out on July 12, 2024, “Capricorn Rising” is available from Exitus Stratagem Records for album pre-order at https://www.exsrmusic.com/store/p/pre-sale-thirteen-goats-capricorn-rising

The issue is available now for order through the Goldmine store: https://shop.goldminemag.com/collections/goldmine-summer-2024-issues

Kiss – Rock and Roll Over
I heard this album at my buddy’s house and the next day
I called him. “Hey, what’s the name of that Kiss greatest hits
album you played me yesterday?” I was informed that it wasn’t
a greatest hits album. Dear God.Could one band write and perform that many perfect songs on one album? Life changing.

Kiss – Alive!
Oh my God! They did it again? Actually, this double album preceded Rock And Roll Over. What’s that funny cigarette that dude is holding on the back cover? How was this band playing in front of so many people and I never heard of them? Probably because before Kiss my album collection consisted of 3 albums. Frampton Comes Alive, Ole ELO and Chicago’s Greatest hits.

Aerosmith – Rocks
Another perfect album from another North East American band. So bad ass. I can still listen to this album on a regular basis. Joe Perry wearing the fedora inside the album? Man, I wish I could look that cool and it was easier than putting on make up. Nobody’s Fault. Just…wow.

Cheap Trick – Cheap Trick
A little different than Kiss or Aerosmith but check out Cry Cry. Almost doom! And I needed to learn that bassline immediately even though I’m a guitar player.

AC/DC – Highway To Hell
I distinctly remember playing along with this album when I was in the 11th grade. I would play along from beginning to end, but my guitar sounded a little out of tune. Years later I realized that most of the songs are tuned slightly different from each other. Brilliant move..on purpose or accident?

Exodus – Bonded By Blood
By the time Bonded came out, Kiss was losing their way. I was still into Judas Priest, but the thrash movement was REALLY getting interesting. Scott LePage ( who played on Hades Resisting Success and whose son is in Polyphia) and I went to LaMour to see Exodus. We were told singer Paul Baloff “wasn’t feeling well”. So Exodus performed Infront of 2,000 rabid fans with no
vocalist. It didn’t matter. We all sang the lyrics and a bloody great time was had by all.

Ice Cube – Death Certificate
When Hades broken up after our 1989 European tour I was crushed. I was already getting into NWA and The Beastie Boys, but in 1991 Ice Cube really delivered. A Bird In The Hand. Givin’ Up The Nappy Dug Out. Heavy and brilliant lyrically.

The Black Crowes – The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion
A little different for me. I love this album. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d look good in bell bottoms, but man-this album rules!

Dr Dre – 2001
I know everybody loved The Chronic-not me! But I can listen to 2001 all day. My metalhead fans my be disappointed to learn that when I’m alone in my car I listen to probably 60% hip-hop. I think
it might make my metal riffs a little groovier than your normal white boy who listens to nothing but hard rock/metal.

Plasmatics – Coup De Grace
Perfect album and the most terrifying exhilarating concert I’d been to. So many bombs going off I had my first panic attack and briefly had to leave the club because I thought
I was going to choke to death.

Danzig – Lucifuge
Are you kidding me? Is there a catchier chorus than Her Black Wings? Jersey proud!
