VESTIGE Stream Debut Album “Janis” in Full, Out Now

VESTIGE formed during an intense period of individual turmoil. But after vocalist and guitarist Théodore Rondeau and his old Naraka bandmates Pierre-André Krauzer (bassist) and Quentin Regnault (drums) bonded with guitarist Thomas Petit over a shared love for metal innovators like Alcest and Deftones, together, the four-piece embarked on their own journey toward a modern vision of metal that’s both cathartic and crushing.

“A compelling blend of emotive depth, shoegaze resplendence, melodic grace, atmospheric presence and aggressive heaviness”, Wonderbox Metal writes about their debut album Janis.

Janis was released yesterday, Friday, June 6, and you can hear all eleven heart-wrenching songs by listening to the full album stream on Season of Mist’s YouTube channel. Order the album at https://orcd.co/vestigejanis

Vestige draws inspiration from modern metal mainstays, but Janis encapsulates all the individual pieces that make the band unique. Lead single “Deviens La Nuit” shifts seamlessly from chugging riffs and tortured growls to melodic shoegaze and atmospheric post-metal before closing with a doomy and dissonant, head-banging breakdown.

Janis was written as a way for Rondeau to find his way out of an intense period of melancholy, despair and anger. “Corrosion” is an anthem for those who have lost their way but still have faith that they will find themselves again. Rondeau’s vocals are soft and haunting before hardening into a full-throated scream as the band flips on the aggression. “Automne” is a somber, chilling two–part reflection that features Neige from Alcest.

“I like comparing the record to an architectural piece”, Rondeau told New Noise. “Each stone can be approached, watched and appreciated as a unique piece. But when you assemble them all together, you get the whole building, taking in its whole meaning. I just needed to translate what I felt in notes, melodies, energy, and it helped me back then to express my distress”.

Théodore Rondeau, the creative initiator behind VESTIGE, embarked on a journey of forming the band during a turbulent phase in his life. Emerged as a creative vessel for a complicated emotional journey, the band transcends the boundaries of individual therapy into a collaborative force that hopefully resonates with the feelings that may be all too common for the human experience.

With a profound connection to their craft, VESTIGE pour their souls into their debut album, infusing it with a captivating blend of melancholy, desperation, and catharsis. The music serves not only as an expression of their turmoil, but as a conduit for listeners to navigate the complexities of their own emotions. Through this process, VESTIGE becomes a project with the potential to connect with people on a profound level, forging a collective experience through the universal language of music.

The formation of VESTIGE’s lineup reads like a musical destiny unfolding: Pierre-André Krauzer on the bass, Quentin Regnault on drums, and Théodore on vocals and guitar. They first crossed paths during their tenure in Naraka, a band that shared stages with icons like Cradle of Filth and Alcest. This initial connection laid the groundwork for the formation of the band. Not long after, the addition of Thomas Petit on the second guitar solidified the lineup, bringing a sense of completeness to the ensemble. The band’s sonic identity now established; VESTIGE was ready to share this experience with the world.

The signing with Season of Mist brings the band’s first milestone, allowing VESTIGE to share their journey in the form of their debut album, Janis. Poised for release in late 2024, the album is a culmination of their collective efforts and a statement of the band’s arrival in the heavy music scene. Weaving through atmospheric shoegaze textures, melodic landscapes and intense, tormented moments that reflects the emotional spectrum of the human experience, the band established a foothold into the genre of modern metal.

Beyond the studio, VESTIGE is gearing up for a series of live performance in 2024, setting the stage for an introspective musical experience that brings raw and authentic energy. A cathartic release that pulls in the listener into the emotional depths the band has to bring.

New Winds for Crow’s Flight This Autumn

Autumn brings new developments for the Finnish metal band Crow’s Flight, which has just released its latest music video, “Road to Madness.” The video was filmed in the harsh environment of the old Kerava prison, where the atmosphere reflects the theme of the song. The lingering sense of anxiety and despair that permeated the space was palpable during filming.

A Vision Brought to Life by the Band

The members of Crow’s Flight collaboratively conceived the video’s script. It was edited and cut by Tom Rask, who also served as the cameraman alongside Toni H. Laroma. “Road to Madness” showcases the band’s skillful and tightly-knit musicianship.

Preparing New Material

This past winter, Crow’s Flight focused on recording a new album, while simultaneously refining their performance for upcoming shows. During the summer, the band channeled their energy into producing the music video and completing the album’s mixing process. The mixing was handled by Harri Petjakko. The result is an impressive work that promises much for the upcoming release.

Future Plans and Searching for a Publisher

The band has a few gigs planned for the end of the year, but the primary focus is on preparing for next year. Crow’s Flight is currently seeking a suitable publisher for their upcoming album “The Dark Horizon” while also considering the possibility of releasing it independently. The album’s cover art is being designed by Sami Kivelä. Crow’s Flight’s “Road to Madness” music video is now available on the band’s official YouTube channel and can be streamed on major digital platforms.

Crow’s Flight:
Markku Kuikka – vocals
Marko Vehmanen – guitars
Erno Hanhisalo – guitars
Jussi ”Leba” Lehto-Rintala – bass
Tom Rask – drums

The track blends personal introspection with powerful themes of justice and transformation. It’s a moving reminder of how facing and overcoming our past traumas can lead to profound change.

Dive into the emotional whirlwind of “A Thousand Tears” by watching the lyric video on YouTube here:

70’s prog-rock Keyboard player GREG SNEDDON (LP ‘Mind Stroll’ on Mushroom Records) teamed up with internationally known British New Wave Metal bass player KEVIN KERSHAW (‘Valhalla’, ‘Ztormtrooper’), guitarist MAREK TABORSKY (‘Powerslave’, ‘Fifteen Minutes of Peace’, ‘The Small Victories’) and drummer CHRIS GEORGE (‘Chariot Arcana’) to form SOULS OF AMBIENCE

KOZORIA Launch New Video ‘Reborn’ from Upcoming Album

French Progressive metallers Kozoria is proud to unleash its brand-new track ‘Reborn’, taken from their band’s upcoming album The Source out October 11th via Black Lion Records Pre-order CD/Digital at https://music.blacklion.nu/Kozoria. Check out the previous video for the track ‘Division’ here!

Kozoria comments: REBORN

-Introduced by Dawn, this cynical track title conveys the absurdity and horror of terrorism. It bluntly underlines the sense of omnipotence and messianic calling at the heart of fundamentalist ideologies. The connection between extremist discourses and the warrior imagery invoked through the song creates a cathartic dissonance, though avoiding any moral lecture.

In “The Source,” Kozoria paints a romantic and dramatic universe throughout the tracks. Each story depicts the anxieties of human beings facing the violence of their own emotions. The hostility of these environments often mirrors internal conflicts intertwined with paradoxes. Songwriting serves contemporary narratives. The polyphonies create contrasts, they induce dual meanings, they evoke irony or invigorate the main melodies. However, these generally dark themes are consistently punctuated by luminous breakthroughs, glowing with hope and vitality.

Tracklist
1 Pandora’s Box
2 Demonize Them
3 Division
4 Leviathan
5 Dawn
6 Reborn
7 We’re Wolves
8 Fading Embers
9 The Source

STORM ORCHESTRA Reveal New Single + Video ‘Drummer’

Parisian alt-rockers Storm Orchestra reveal their exhilarating new single, “Drummer,” out now on Mascot Records. You can watch the video HERE.

Their irresistible blend of infectious glammy hooks and stadium filling heaviness sets them apart from their contemporaries. Marrying a charismatic fusion of Nothing But Thieves, Royal Blood, and Muse has seen them capture the attention of the Paris Underground scene as one of the leading lights.

Talking about “Drummer” singer-guitarist Maxime Goudard says, “This song is a fun one that we wrote a few years ago. It’s inspired by some antics and stories from friends, and our very own drummer as well. The chorus really sticks in your head, even our friends from other bands sing it to us! The drum parts especially were written with a simple take: we want this song to be the first one you want to learn on drums. It’s really fun to play with a bit of challenge on the bridge though!”

Goudard melancholically sings “Have you ever, felt so much in pain, that you gotta, dig inside your brain, have you ever exploded like champagne, that you gotta be a drummer,” offering some depth to the song before it grabs you by the neck and whips you into the uncontrollably infectious chorus.

The music video features a revolving line-up of drummers to which Goudard adds, “We wanted to do something around drums that shows the more fun aspect of our music and our personalities. It’s a way to pay tribute to some of the greatest rock drummers that influenced us, and above all the best excuse to have Loïc wearing wigs! We took it serious though, Loïc tried to mimic the playing style of his favourite drummers.”

“Drummer” follows the previous single,  the metallic alt-rock “Bright Soul,” in which Goudard opens up about his fear of letting his dark side take over the person he wants to be. The track picked up multiple playlists across Amazon, Deezer and Spotify.

Teenage friends Maxime Goudard (vocals, guitar), Adrien Richard (bass) and Loïc Fouquet’s (drums) euphoric grandiosity has seen them emerge as one of the most exciting acts on the Paris music scene. As a then-unsigned band, they picked up an impressive combined 4M streams at the end of last year, ending 2023 in a triumphant fashion as the “Artist to Watch in 2024” by Spotify France and in the Top of the Rock: Best of 2023 and Deezer’s 2023 Rock playlists.

They’ve captured lightning in a bottle and are selling out clubs across France and have shone on the festival circuit and will be heading out on a tour of Germany in September with Lonely Spring.

Light and dark, euphoria and heaviness, glamour and aggression – Storm Orchestra are here to be your new favourite band.

AIRI’S Release Second Single ‘Pray’ from Upcoming Second Album

AIRI’S is an indie rock band from Finland, founded in 2019. Influenced by brit rock, grunge and prog, the band tells relatable stories about the emotional storms of life, from devastating anxiety and crushing depression to infatuation and love. Now they release the 2nd single ‘Pray’ from their 2nd album ‘Sea of Your Thoughts’ to be released later in September. The single is the wild card on the album, as the band’s keyboard player Silja Silander sings the lead vocal parts.

Listen to ‘Pray’ on music services

Airi’s – Pray

  • Music & lyrics by Joni Hartikainen & Silja Silander
  • Arrangement by Joni Hartikainen, Tuomas Hokkanen, Julius Lindberg, Thomas Aura, Silja Silander
  • Recorded by Joel Kinnunen, V.R. Studio
  • Mixed by Jori Saloranta, V.R. Studio
  • Mastered by Jarno Alho, Alho Audio Mastering
  • Catalog number: VRDIG320
  • ISRC: FIV2U2400057
  • Distributor: Playground Music Scandinavia

One of the main themes of the song is self-centeredness. The narrator feels frustration and anger towards being unable to help their loved ones. Sometimes it can be challenging for each person to put themselves in the other person’s position. Every once in a while, it’s important to stop and think about other people’s needs as well. The haunting and oppressive atmosphere of ‘Pray’ presents the darker and more hopeless side of the album.

Airi’s debut album “Kind Little One” was released in August 2022, with singles “Earthquake”, “Headlights” and “Lonely Cloud” getting frequent airplay on indie stations in Finland, the UK and the US. Inspired by the themes of the album, the band organized a charity concert for mental health, which grossed €1500 for Finnish mental health organization Mieli ry.
Airi’s has played over 100 shows, including appearances at Ruisrock 2024 and as a support band on Erja Lyytinen‘s Finnish tour dates. The band has also toured abroad in Sweden and the UK – in Spring 2024 they performed at London’s legendary Dublin Castle in Camden for a packed club, along with three other highly successful shows around London.

Second album Sea of Your Thoughts will be released on September 27th via V.R. Label, distributed by Playground Music.

Airi’s is:
Joni Hartikainen – Lead Vocals & Guitar
Tuomas Hokkanen – Guitar & Vocals
Silja Silander – Keyboards & Vocals
Julius Lindberg – Bass
Thomas Aura – Drums
