Pestilent Scars is a five-piece melodic death metal band from Oulu. All members are between 18 and 19 years old. The band’s central themes focus on melodic songwriting, pure emotion, tight gigs and overall the old school way of getting around.

The band is about to release their debut album Meadows of Misfortune on January 17th 2025 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘In Search of Reason’ is released today and it’s available on all essential streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/pestilent-scars-search

  • Music by Elias Vierimaa & Topi Ilmola
  • Lyrics by Pasi Matinolli
  • Single cover by Topi Ilmola

“Mostly my writing comes straight from the heart. When I write music it has to come naturally. Melodies are very important to me and that’s why we have lot of melodic riffs in our songs. It tells you a story, it’s not basic death metal. I feel like I can show much more about myself with melodies. It’s something that I do. I don’t think a lot about which bands have inspired me, but i have to say that gothenburg’s melodic death metal scene from 90’s has inspired me a lot. But our music still has that Finnish melancholy. Both Finnish and Swedish melodic death metal is very important to me.” – Guitarist/Songwriter, Elias Vierimaa

Meadows of Misfortune Track list:

  1. Into The Meadows
  2. Internal Torment
  3. Golden Maiden
  4. Deceitful Phoenix
  5. Unreality
  6. A Reaching Hand
  7. Democide
  8. All On My Own
  9. In Search Of Reason
  10. False Messiah

Album cover by Topi Ilmola

Strictly limited CD is now available on pre-order

Pestilent Scars was born in the winter of 2022/2023. The band has had the same line-up for almost its entire existence. Pestilent Scars released their first single “Deceitful Phoenix” in the summer of 2023. The single was a relative success. Deceitful Phoenix” was followed by “All On My Own” in the autumn of the same year.

The band played several live shows in 2023 and 2024, which were energetic and showcased the band’s overall idea. At their last gig the band performed their forthcoming album “Meadows Of Misfortune”. The album will be released in early 2025.

Elias Vierimaa – Guitars

BEYOND UNBROKEN Release New Single ‘Oceans’

Posted by metalshockfinland on September 7, 2024

From brutal metal and rock to alternative rock and pop, BEYOND UNBROKEN show off their diverse musical inclinations in their latest single. Using synthesizers, drums, and guitar to create an all over solemn atmosphere Beyond Unbroken’s feels like a complete 180 from their previous releases. The track fuses elements of pop into alternative rock for a refreshing and unique single.

Purchase/Stream: https://link.fixtmusic.com/Oceans

In their own words, “‘Oceans’ is a track that indulges our curiosity about the pop music space. There are many heavy hitters in this genre, and with this song, we wanted to experiment with different artistic outside the box ideas throughout the track. We had a lot of fun exploring and putting together all of the many elements that makeup the song and what they turned into for the final version.
There are a few key factors that made ‘Oceans’ really fun to create during the writing process. For instance, in the bridge section, we wanted an underwater, old-school digital Gameboy lead sound. We referenced video games like Pokémon and Donkey Kong to inspire that clever little lead. It’s one of our personal favorite sections to hear in the song. On the other side of the song, we introduced real finger snaps. After listening and referencing Michael Jackson and how he uses his own finger snaps in his songs, we thought it would be another fun little idea to include in the recording. We experimented with snapping one palm and then two palms at the same time to create a fuller sound. It sounded so good to us that we ended up putting it as a break in the song, right in the middle of the chorus, to hook listeners in.
We feel that ‘Oceans’ will make a tremendous impact on our fall full-length album by showcasing our different signature styles and genres that we love to tackle. Each song stands out with its own uniqueness, and ‘Oceans’ will contribute to the diversity and richness of the record.”

“Oceans” is another testament to the band’s ability to blend genres seamlessly, creating a unique sound that is both captivating and will resonate with fans.

In a world of boundaries Beyond Unbroken refuses to be defined by one genre. Founded by former Escape The Fate members, brothers Monte and Michael Money, the band habitually crosses the lines, mixing genres the way an artist mixes paint with results that often defy expectation.
They released their first single “Under Your Skin” in 2015 and debuted their first independent EP Don’t Wake The Dead in 2017 with producer Matt Good of From First To Last. The EP was well received with the animated video “Overdose” earning millions of views upon release. Their first debut album, Running Out of Time, followed in 2020 with singles earning millions of streams and premiering on Alt Press.

On April 29, 2020, the band covered Lil Peep and Twenty One Pilots mashup, “Falling Down + Heathens” and it remains the band’s most streamed track to this day. In 2021 the band released a one-off single “With Or Without Me” on the FiXT Radium Compilation which eventually led to the band signing with the label in 2023.

As the sombre seasons are around the corner, WOLFHEART deliver the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming months with their brand-new album, “Draconian Darkness,” which is finally out now worldwide via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). To celebrate not only the new record but also the first leg of the supporting touring cycle, which consists of 10 dates all across Finland, the Finnish winter metal band have prepared a music video for the album opening track, ‘Ancient Cold.’ Epically marching symphonic sounds kick off its simple but effective bulldozing introduction and set the tone for the song which sees the group break its mainly reigning coldness during the choruses where especially WOLFHEART‘s clean vocal section brilliantly shines.

“‘Ancient Cold’ is a perfect album and show opener with its massive beginning and an intense amount of riffs and melodies which take listeners onto a rollercoaster ride filled with Nordic fire and ice. It was also worth of the most epic music video shooting location we have even been to. The breathtaking highlands of Iceland are a perfect match,” band leader Tuomas Saukkonen says.

He adds, “”Draconian Darkness” is our seventh album and musically it is the pinnacle of all music we have released since 2013. After a full year of work on the album and now residing under the mighty wings of RPM, this is definitely a milestone in our career.”

The opus was recorded at Deep Noise Studios and produced, mixed and mastered by the band’s long-time collaborator Saku Moilanen; its artwork was crafted by Nikos Stavridakis (VisionBlack).

UNDEATH Share New Single And Music Video ‘Disputatious Malignancy’

Photographer credit: Nick Karp

UNDEATH has released a new single and accompanying claymation video, titled Disputatious Malignancy, animated and directed by Hayden Hall. Disputatious Malignancy is the second single to be taken from the Rochester, NY death metal band’s forthcoming third album, More Insane, which is set for release via Prosthetic Records on October 4.

Stream Disputatious Malignancy via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify.
Pre-order More Insane here.

Speaking on the single, UNDEATH vocalist Alexander Jones comments: “This was actually one of the last songs written for the album. Kyle had an extremely rough demo of it on his phone that I overheard him listening to when we were at Mark’s studio doing pre-production, and just from hearing that I knew it had to be on the record no matter what. Thematically it’s got kind of a “Pierced From Within” era Suffocation meets Bloodborne lore vibe and it’s definitely the closest thing we have lyrically to a “fuck god/religion” song, which is kind of new territory for us. It’s fast as shit, bouncy and has a killer duelling squeal-y solo part that I absolutely love.”

Previous album It’s Time… To Rise from the Grave caught a wave of acclaim on TheNeedleDrop’s YouTube channel, earned Best New Music from Pitchfork, and, most impressively, rocketed to the top of Decibel Magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2022, along with a coveted cover feature. On More Insane, UNDEATH – featuring Kyle Beam (guitars), Alexander Jones (vocals), Tommy Wall (bass), Jared Welch (guitars), and Matt Browning (drums)—feast on the rotten flesh of brutality, complexity, and depravity.

If the gross-out teenage hallucinations of It’s Time… rattled death metal’s caved-in cranium, More Insane explodes with even sicker vistas. Lyrically, UNDEATH pick up, in part, where Necrobionics and Enhancing the Dead left off. Indeed, the undead armies (from space) cause more carnage in Sutured for War and Dead from Beyond. Elsewhere, the New Yorkers summon nightmares from video games (Bloodborne, etc.) on Cramped Caskets (Necrology), turn to high fantasy on Brandish the Blade, and man-eating laboratory demons on Disattachment of a Prophylactic in the Brain. Unifying themes of murder, weirdos, psychotic people (who kill others), and more lunacy prevail on More Insane. Browning’s eye-catching cover art of a splayed head atop an optic white background engulfs all in graphic, blood-soaked glory.

The recording of More Insane was hearsed over to American studio wizard Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder) at Mark Lewis Audio in Nashville, TN. UNDEATH and Lewis met after a gig in Alabama. They became fast friends. With the basics out of the way, the group set up a month-long residency at Lewis’s studio to nail down More Insane. UNDEATH and Lewis co-produced, while Lewis handled engineering, mixing, and mastering. Brandish the Blade, Disputatious Malignancy, Dead from Beyond, and the title track are pure, unyielding death brought to horrifying reality by a kick-ass production.

Expect UNDEATH to take More Insane to their diehard fans around the world. Expect more bloodshed, crazier merch, and a ton of fun. In life, there’s only UNDEATH. Only this time, it’s More Insane!

  1. Dead From Beyond
  2. More Insane

COPING METHOD to Release First Full-Length Album “Where Spirit Meets Bone” on October 9th

Posted by metalshockfinland on September 6, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: COPING METHOD. Leave a comment

Coping Method‘s first full length album – ‘Where Spirit Meets Bone‘ – is available for pre-order now from FIXT. The full album drops October 9th.

Preorder the album here: https://link.fixtmusic.com/wherespiritmeetsbone

Dropping with the pre-order announcement is “Where Spirit Meets Bone.” The fierce single delves into the raw, visceral emotions of betrayal, cynicism, and the quest for liberation from a toxic relationship. The track is characterized by its intense lyrics that convey the suffocating experience of enduring repetitive deceit and emotional manipulation.

Just recently, the band revealed the title track “Where Spirit Meets Bone“, in case you missed, listen to it here:

The final session from Coping Method is just around the corner. Intense. Brutal. Raw. The program delves into the darkest recesses of the human condition shining a light as it bombards listeners with a barrage of rock, metal, metalcore, Nu-metal, and alternative. Featuring an ensemble of genre-defying sessions including “Closing In” featuring the fierce vocal talents of the enigmatic REEBZ, “Underground” the utter embodiment of aggression, and the equally savage “Obliterate Me” with the band commenting simply, “It’s heavy” Where Spirit Meets Bone is a high octane ride through human resilience.
Stay tuned. The next training session is just around the corner.

Where Spirit Meets Bone is a turbulent deep dive into the human psyche. Coping Method‘s Tyler Simpson’s brutal vocal performances are just the tip of the iceberg. Below the surface is a deep well of transformative soundscapes laid out in vivid and painstaking detail. The album takes on themes of betrayal, cynicism, toxic relationships, inner demons, and self destructive tendencies through a musical lens as a deeply personal albeit chaotic release. Through thrashing guitars, layered into thunderous percussion, and electronic elements, laced with thought provoking lyrics that have to be screamed not just sung, Coping Method’s distinct ability to seamlessly weave these intricate emotions into their music is a testament to Coping Method’s musical prowess. If you’re looking for authenticity that mirrors the complexities of life’s challenges in the modern era, this is it.

The spirit of the album can be summed up with one quote from band member Jed Stark. “You are not alone; your struggles matter, and you deserve to receive help.”

Beneath the mystifying cloak of ambiguity lies vulnerability. Coping Method thrives in the shadows of the human psyche, exploring unfiltered rumination via their unique marriage of Metal and Dark EDM. Those who participate in their exercises, classified as “trainees,” are encouraged to lose themselves in each sonic wave. Underneath the brooding veneer of the organization is a yearning to connect with each trainee, providing an outlet for their struggles. Instructors Tyler Simpson (Vocals), Jed Stark (Guitar/Synth), and Chad Wunderle (Drums) believe in the message with every fiber of their being. By embracing the pulsating soundscapes and sonorous timbres, you too might believe.
