Enemy of Fate is a hard-hitting rock band hailing from Sacramento, California, known for their unique blend of hard rock, alternative rock, and nu metal. Drawing inspiration and comparisons from bands like In This Moment, Evanescence, 9 Inch Nails, Bullet for My Valentine, Bad Omens, Pop Evil, 10 Years, and Sleep Theory, Enemy of Fate has carved out a distinct sound that captivates audiences with its raw energy and emotional depth.
Enemy of Fate made waves when singer/songwriter Tiffany Fabiani hit the music scene and penned the intimate and emotional debut single, “Dear Dad” in September of 2023, showcasing her powerful lyrics and intense musicality. The infamous Italian director Lucio Fulci created many of horror and exploitation cinema’s most memorable and vivid visions of the supernatural, sadistic and salacious. Zombi 2, The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead, TheHouse By The Cemetery, and more left an indelible impression on the minds of many an impressionable youth. The Italian death metal band FULCI was so possessed by their countryman’s work, they named the band after him, with each album being a concept and tribute based on one of his films.
For the band’s fourth bloodthirsty full-length, and first for 20 Buck Spin after a steadily growing profile in the death metal underground over the last several years, FULCI presents Duck Face Killings, a homage to one of Lucio’s most depraved and reviled films, The New York Ripper. In his book Beyond Terror: The Films Of Lucio Fulci, author (and one time Coil member) Stephen Thrower says “The New York Ripper is a nihilistic vision of Hell on Earth. No one matters. No one cares… Fulci’s film offers a powerful vision of a world where love has curdled away into poison and death. Life goes on alright, as the soundtrack suggests over the credits, with its ‘just another day in the Big Bad Apple’ inflection and junk-funk facelessness: but in a climate of absolute zero.” Perhaps only the director’s most ardent apologists can confess to a guilty pleasure in the film.
Musically, FULCI unleashes a barrage of captivatingly gruesome riffs, gory pummeling, murderous slams, low-pitched guttural vocal patterns, and eerie intros and interludes. The band’s songwriting is consciously fixated on creating the most violent and sharpened music possible to convey the film’s extreme savagery, imagining a soundtrack for the most grisly and cynical slasher flick ever made. There’s a lot of luscious meat on these bones, dripping with hooks and all the colors of Lucio Fulci’s eccentric cinema of cruelty, while the psychotic killer hunts his victims with remorseless perversity and sick gratification, inexplicably quacking in a duck’s voice throughout…
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and such is the case with a film as sordid and odious as The New York Ripper. Described by the British Board Of Film Classification’s Carol Tpolski as, “simply the most damaging film I have ever seen in my whole life,” it was banned in the UK upon its 1982 release for the next twenty years. With Duck Face Killings, FULCI’s brutal delivery and graphic depiction of their mentor’s violent world shines like the glimmer of blood under the NYC street lights, shocking and wild. A testament to the controversial master in all its decadent guts and degenerate glory.
Sure to be one of the death metal highlights of the year, FULCI’s Duck Face Killings features guest vocal appearances by Lord Goat of legendary hip-hop act Non Phixion on “Knife” and Sherwood Webber of infamous death henchmen Skinless on “Human Scalp Collection,” and saxophone on “Il Miele Del Diavolo” by Mario Luce.
The album was recorded at Till Deaf Recording Studios, engineered and mixed by Ando Ferraiulo with assistant engineer Angelo Guierriero, with vocal recording and engineering handled by Stefano Santi at SPVN Studio, and was mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Cavalera Conspiracy, Tomb Mold). The cover artwork was crafted by Wes Benscoter (Autopsy, Sinister, Mortician, Broken Hope, Nile), conceptualized by Dome Diego and Fiore Stravino, the layout handled by Ascionemagro, and photography was handled by Chiara Meierhofer Muscarà.

Los Angeles death metal dealers SKELETAL REMAINS and Portland speed demons BEWITCHER are teaming up to wreck North America together later this year! The tour will kick off on September 20 in SKELETAL REMAINS’ hometown of L.A. and will demolish the states through October 20, where BEWITCHER will see their own homecoming in Portland, OR.

Skeletal Remains’s ultra-brutal new album, Fragments of the Ageless, is upon us! The Americans—featuring Mike De La O (guitars), Chris Monroy (guitars/vocals), Pierce Williams (drums), and newcomer Brian Rush (bass)—kept busy after their much-hailed The Entombment of Chaos landed into a chaotic world in 2020. Rather than sit idle, the re-energized quartet crafted their penultimate statement. Progressive alternative rockers Pure Reason Revolution return with their sixth studio album ‘Coming Up To Consciousness’, released on the 6th September 2024 via InsideOutMusic. Betrayal, deception, fear, grief, mortality, and questions of sanity: heady and primordial themes animate the latest conceptual LP from Pure Reason Revolution.
Jon Courtney comments: “Spawned from the bereavement after my dog was put down, a numb & dry creative spell ensued, but after a meeting with my writer friend Craig Walker (Archive/Power of Dreams) & sharing how the last months had been, he urged me to get this experience down in lyrics & music. Suddenly the album flew out of me/us! In terms of recording process, this album was probably the most enjoyable to make, with the various collaborations firing creativity.”

‘Coming Up To Consciousness’ is the third of its post-hiatus renaissance records that began with 2020’s ‘Eupnea’ and continued in 2022’s ‘Above Cirrus’. Like those two predecessors, the new record is intensely personal. Its eight tracks are all between four and seven minutes long – concise by PRR standards – and they grapple with darkness of various kinds.
Courtney, who lives in Berlin, shared writing duties on several tracks with US-based Greg Jong. The pair formed Pure Reason Revolution together in the early 00s at the University of Westminster, creating breakout hit ‘The Bright Ambassadors of Morning’ as their third year project. They reconnected during the creation of ‘Eupnea’ and have continued the partnership since then both in the studio and on stage. Legendary session musician Guy Pratt, who has worked with Pink Floyd among myriad iconic acts, provided bass guitar on seven of the eight tracks, resulting in more ambitious bass lines than any of Pure Reason Revolution’s previous records. Meanwhile, Ravi Kesavaram, of My Vitriol fame, returns to the drums on this record after touring with the band in 2022.
Another newcomer on this record is vocalist Annicke Shireen, known for her work with Shireen and Heilung, as well as her solo project. Shireen stepped in after original PRR member and fan favourite Chloe Alper was unavailable for recent live shows. With Alper’s schedule remaining packed for the foreseeable future, she has been unable to rejoin the lineup. She and Courtney agreed it made more sense for Shireen to sing on the record if she was going to continue appearing in shows. Both Courtney and Jong have nothing but enthusiasm for working with her:
“They’re impossible shoes to fill in a lot of ways,” Greg Jong says. “But we were just blown away with how good she is. We were really excited by the fact that vocally she does have a similar tone to Chloe, and yet she definitely holds her own.”
The band was equally thrilled to work with multiple members of prog icon The Pineapple Thief; the record was mixed by Bruce Soord, mastered by Steve Kitch, and sees Jon Sykes playing bass on one track. ‘Coming Up To Consciousness’ is also the third PRR album to feature cover art by Jill Tegan Doherty, who Courtney originally met in Berlin on a German language course.
The album will be available as a Limited CD+DVD Digipak (featuring 5.1 Surround Sound & High Resolution Stereo Mixes), Standard CD Jewelcase, as well as a Gatefold ReVinyl LP (Recycled Vinyl), and digitally in both stereo and Dolby Atmos.

Legendary Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess is pleased to announce his brand new solo album ‘Permission To Fly’ will be released on the 6th September 2024 via InsideOutMusic. No stranger to experimentation, known for leading the charge in pushing creative, sonic, and technological boundaries, his latest endeavour, epitomizes this ethos, delving into the complexities of human existence within our multifaceted world.
As Jordan Rudess explains, “The essence of the album is deeply informed by the tumultuous events of 2023-2024, with motifs of peace and anti-violence woven throughout many of the songs.”

While some previous releases were true solo pursuits, this time, Rudess assembled a core group of musicians to support and elevate his vision. With the music in capable hands, Rudess wanted to make sure to give the lyrics their proper attention. For that, he turned to a source close to home, his daughter.
“All the lyrics on the album were written by my daughter, Ariana. While I enjoy writing lyrics myself, my primary focus tends to be on the sonic quality of the words.
