After 25 years, Misery Index continue to stand tall at the forefront of extreme music. The band, which features current and former members of Dying Fetus and Pig Destroyer, started 2026 off strong by re-signing to Season of Mist. Now, as they prepare to embark on a headline tour of Europe and the United Kingdom, the firebrands are unleashing their first new single in four years. While still the product of their high-intensity combination of death metal and grindcore, “Feral Future” answers the call of the wild.

On “Feral Future”, Misery Index keep their social commentary razor-sharp. The band’s new single was one of the very first songs written for their upcoming eighth full-length and its untamed energy helped shape the album’s thematic core. Adam Jarvis pounds his drums until they’re one with the dirt while Mark Kloeppel and Darin Morris sharpen their axes into a filthy headbanging groove.

“This is our future”, Netherton growls during its final blood-pumping sprint. “Feral Future” might be a grim warning for the fate of our planet, but for Misery Index, it’s a sign of more greatness to come.

Misery Index started as a studio project in 2001. Vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-Dying Fetus) joined guitarist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-Dying Fetus) to record their debut EP Overthrow. The considerable praise heaped upon this five-song death/grind attack led Misery Index to become a full-time band with the addition of guitarist Sparky Voyles (ex-Dying Fetus).

In 2003, Misery Index released Retaliate, their debut full-length, on Nuclear Blast Records. “I can’t see how anyone who likes death metal and grindcore wouldn’t like this record” Lambgoat wrote. The band followed the success of their debut with numerous tours of North America and Europe while supporting Dying Fetus, Amon Amarth, Deicide and Nile. Between 2004 and 2005, current guitarist and ex-Cast The Stone Mark Kloeppel came aboard while Pig Destroyer’s Adam Jarvis took over on drums, which solidified their lineup for years to come.

Discordia, Misery Index’s second full-length, was released on Relapse Records in 2006. “Discordia is an enjoyable listen primarily because Misery Index have learned how to write great riffs” Last Rites wrote. A seven-week tour of Europe with Fear Factory followed, along with the band’s first appearance at Hellfest and Tuska Open Air.

For their third full-length and second with Relapse, in 2008, Misery Index recorded with Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City Studios. “These polarized times call for constructive discourse. But if Misery Index can destroy the opposition six ways ‘til Sunday, so be it”, Pitchfork wrote in a review of Traitors. For the next two years, the band toured extensively. They supported Cannibal Corpse and The Black Dahlia Murder and performed for the first time in Mexico, Russia and Iceland, while also making their debut at Japan’s Extreme the Dojo festival and Germany’s Summer Breeze.

2010’s Heirs to Thievery, which was also released on Relapse, dropped like a bomb on the death metal scene, shattering expectations. “As Netherton and his band insist, now is not the time for complacency, even in the metal community”, PopMatters wrote. The album’s critical and commercial success elevated the band to headliners in the United States and Europe. Following the departure of Voyles that same year, guitarist Darin Morris joined Misery Index and solidified the 4-member lineup that still stands today. Over the next two years, they made their live debut in Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia and Malayasia and supported the US and European legs of Cannibal Corpse’s Torture tour.

While performing in Munich in 2012, Misery Index recorded their first live album. The band released Live in Munich with Season of Mist, whom they originally signed with in 2013. They went on to release two critically-acclaimed and top-selling albums for the French label. “Impressively heavy, expansive and loud”, Metal Injection wrote about The Killing Gods (2014). Rituals of Power generated an equally reverential response. “[…] an exemplary execution of death in 2019”, New Noise wrote.

Two European headline tours, including one with Wormrot, and support runs with Nails and The Black Dahlia Murder kept them on the road until February 2020. On the final day of their month-long Campaign for Musical Destruction European Tour with Napalm Death, Misery Index announced that they had signing to Century Media Records. The label released their seventh studio album in 2022 to widespread acclaim.

“Misery Index is a band for the hellish news cycle we are all trapped in”, Invisible Oranges wrote in a review of Complete Control.

Now, having toured their previous album extensively since 2022, Misery Index are back with Season of Mist ahead of their upcoming eighth full-length album. The band released their first new single in four years, “Feral Future”, ahead of their An Epitaph for Endtimes European and United Kingdom summer tour.

For Amon Amarth, a new album marks the beginning of a new world. As with previous records, Oden, the Norse “all father” who is a deity of war, wisdom, death, magic, and poetry, is the through-line in Amon Amarth‘s lyrics and artwork. Once again, Oden is the band’s inspiration, but The Allfather Awakens is not a concept album, rather a collection of historically inspired epic tales of conflict and sacrifice for a greater good.

Following the release of Amon Amarth‘s first-ever acoustic excursion “Upphaf“, the band unleash The Allfather Awakens‘ opening track and epic tale of “Gjallarhorn“. Where the stripped-back “Upphaf” carried the solemnity of an oral history whispered under the shadow of the Allfather, “Gjallarhorn” arrives as a furious Amon Amarth classic. “Gjallarhorn’s” driving, upbeat guitar riff and high tempo, catchy chorus fuse with a few surprises that ensure itself to be a future live staple.

To gain wisdom beyond mortal comprehension, Oden made the ultimate sacrifice – gouging out his own eye and casting it into the Well of Wisdom, Mímisbrunnr, in exchange for cosmic insight and foresight that would shape the fate of gods and men alike. Amon Amarth took a new songwriting approach for The Allfather Awakens, the band’s 13th album since 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall. The album came to life across two recording sessions, months apart, at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark. Amon Amarth began writing songs while touring, rather than waiting until they were off the road. The first session was Spring 2025; the final recording was completed in March 2026. The writing and recording process allowed the musicians to intensely focus on each track, resulting in an album where each song was treated as a single. “We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible,” says guitarist Olavi Mikkonen. “Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished–drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one.” Guitar-wise, Amon Amarth opted for a slightly less modern approach sonically, moving away from 5150 amps and back to Marshalls.

Music is written before lyrics, and often sets the tone for the words. The song that inspired the album title, “The Allfather Awakes,” was the last written for the album. With Oden as the titular “Allfather,” there is no shortage of historical influences heard across new songs like “Eight Legs of Thunder,” “Kvasir’s Blood” and “Die With a War Cry,” with the brutally beautiful lyrical rallying cry: “Facing destruction / Annihilation / Master your thoughts and mind.” The Allfather Awakens cover art is a powerful portrait of Oden by Tom Thiel, who created seven of the quintet’s album covers.

Over 30 years later, Amon Amarth remains a band of brothers, and that loyalty and unity allow for harmony and a united front that conquers both the stage and record. Frontman Johann Hegg’s powerfully rendered lyrics on The Allfather Awakens‘ on “We Rule The Waves” sum up the band’s unrelenting intent. “From cradle until the grave / As long as the sun sets in the west / We rule the waves / Our restless hearts / Have brought us far / As far as Vinland’s shores / We’ve gone further / Than any man has ever gone before.”

From Amon Amarth‘s 1992 formation in Tumba, Sweden, to the worldwide fame they’ve found in the ensuing years, their lyrical, live and recorded musical legacy speaks for itself. Over the past few years the band have performed globally and alongside legendary acts such as Slayer, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Pantera in addition to monumental takeovers of Los Angeles’ The Forum and Denver’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre to name a few. Across seas, Amon Amarth have headlined multiple major rock and metal fests including an epic performance at Germany’s Wacken in 2024 for 85,000. Elsewhere on UK/European soil, the Viking lords have twice headlined the UK’s storied Bloodstock festival, made four appearances at Download (2008 – 2019), and performed at Summer Breeze eight times (2003 – 2024) – six of them as headliner.

Their rapidly increasing sales and touring numbers, plus pre-release buzz to Amon Amarth‘s 2026 North American tour with Dethklok and Castle Rat, has managed to garner mainstream success without sacrificing either of their constantly evolving creativity or heaviness. Audience demographics run the gamut from pre-teens to 60-somethings, an inclusive metal experience for those who appreciate epic positivity and powerfully inspirational lyrics.

Their cultural influence cannot be overstated. To wit: The Row. The consensus is that the legendary “Viking row” by audience members first began during the 2009 Amon Amarth set at Bloodstock. Fans get on the ground and, in unison, imitate rowing an invisible longship in a powerfully unifying experience. With the 2022 release of the single and video “Put Your Back into the Oar,” Hegg said, “we thought it was a good idea to write a song about The Row! This one is for you, the fans, wherever you are-and may Oden guide you as you row to your destiny in uncharted seas!“

Italian doom metallers MESSA are pleased to present their latest single: a Cold Cave remix of “At Races.” The original track appears on the band’s critically lauded full-length, The Spin, released last year via Metal Blade Records. The Cold Cave remix gives the enveloping track a darkwave/synthpop touch.

MESSA‘s signature sound absorbs influences from jazz and blues, punk and prog, and black metal and dark ambient, but their restless experimentalism has extraordinarily smooth and assured results. The Spin incorporates another new element, interpolating an ’80s goth rock vibe in typically full-blooded fashion. “We don’t like to repeat ourselves and we constantly try to find a new language to express while keeping our identity,” stresses the band. “This time we delved into a territory we had never explored before, which is the decade of the 1980s. We are aware that many bands before us took inspiration from that era, but we decided to be careless and run away with it mainly because we get involved and question what we do. We are not part of the ‘dark scene’ in any way. The influence for this record looks back to the early goth rock/dark wave rather than the later emanations of the genre.” In addition to Sisters Of Mercy and Virgin Prunes, the band cites records by Killing Joke, Mercyful Fate, Jimmy Page, Journey, The Sound, Boy Harsher, and Vangelis as impacting significantly upon the creation of The Spin.

Decibel Magazine championed, “a sweeping statement that draws equally from doom and goth rock, with hefty doses of classic heavy metal and jazz thrown in.” Deaf Forever concurred, praising the band’s, “strongest album to date,” that, “definitively establishes MESSA as one of the most exciting and creative bands of the modern era.” New Noise Magazine hailed, “a deeply rewarding album from a band whose time has come,” further elaborating, “…though all of their output makes for easy recommendations, it’s The Spin that finally shoulders MESSA out of the niche, best-kept-secret parameters they’ve been snagged in and onwards towards the oh, so elite, ‘many are called but few are chosen’ province of unequivocal, rock n’ roll preeminence. HATEBREED Announce New Album “Fatal Paradox”, Out November 6th

Studied, imitated, but never replicated, the Grammy-nominated hardcore legends HATEBREED have remained a fixture of the hardcore and metal scenes for the better part of three decades. After writing the playbook with their genre-defining releases Under The Knife (1996) and Satisfaction Is The Death Of Desire (1997), HATEBREED continued to carry the banner for metallic hardcore with albums like Perseverance (2002), The Rise of Brutality (2003), and Supremacy (2006) dominating charts globally.

In recent years, the band’s undisputed offensive continues with modern records The Concrete Confessional (2016) and Weight of the False Self (2020), remaining fixtures on charts globally. The band’s core values of self actualization, perseverance, and honest living have carried them from backyard and basement shows to festival dominators, selling out shows consistently across the world, effectively practicing what they’ve preached.

Hatebreed also offer the first taste of new music with the video for “KILL COUNT INCREASE“.

Enlisting long-time collaborator Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Accept, Shadows Fall), “Kill Count Increase” is crossover excellence with accelerating speeds, crushing riffage, and frontman Jamey Jasta’s venomous bark inciting crimson flashes of carnage.

“‘Kill Count Increase’ is the lead track on Fatal Paradox and a perfect way of summing up our first album in six years from the start,” Jasta states. “It’s straightforward, in-your-face Hatebreed. Fast. Hard. It gets down to business and comes up for air two-and-a-half minutes later. The room and everyone in it gets wrecked and comes back wanting more.”

Holding no punches, and taking no prisoners Fatal Paradox see the Connecticut-born juggernaut operating at full tilt, bludgeoning listeners with a barbarous blend of breakdowns, d-beats, and dogpiles. Whether it’s the thrash stylings of “Kill Count Increase” or “Total Invincible,” capital H hardcore excellence of “The Carrion Choir” and “Truth Is A Lion,” rage remains the unifying spark to blow the keg in glorious flashes of violence.

HOLLOW BONE Sign with Octopus Rising & Unveil New Single ‘Amigdala’

Italian experimental post metallers Hollow Bone have officially joined Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records and celebrate the announcement with the release of their brand new single “Amigdala”, now available on all major streaming platforms.

Formed in Milan in 2016 around the vision of drummer, percussionist and songwriter Carlo Garof, Hollow Bone have developed a distinctive sound where post-metal, electronics and downtempo textures converge into cinematic, emotionally driven compositions. Their approach naturally bridges heavy music and experimental sound design, creating an identity that reaches beyond conventional genre boundaries.

“Amigdala” captures the essence of the band’s creative vision through layered arrangements, hypnotic rhythms and evolving atmospheres. Rather than following traditional song structures, Hollow Bone shape immersive sonic landscapes where tension, melody and texture coexist in constant transformation.

A defining element of the band’s music is the use of the human voice as a purely sonic instrument. Free from narrative meaning, vocal layers become part of the overall sound, enhancing the introspective and dreamlike quality that characterises Hollow Bone’s work.

The band’s name is inspired by Lakota Sioux Teton medicine man Frank Fools Crow’s concept of the “Hollow Bone”, symbolising openness to intuition, spirituality and creative expression.
