After two years from the acclaimed “Abracamacabra” album, Italian doom band DI’AUL return with a two-track EP on June 7th, which anticipates the new album “EvAAvE,” due out at the end of this year.
The band comments: “This is the first part of a broader work whose guiding theme revolves entirely around the female and the ‘feminine”’ detached from gender: from mistreatment to redemption, from the relationship with the family to society in general. Because in the deepest nature of man, the ‘feminine’ is the most important part in each of us, which hides within it what Garcia Lorca called Duende. Most of the lyrics are then largely inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath, Amelia Rosselli, and Virginia Woolf.“
“Ep II” was recorded and mixed at Vacuum Studio in Bologna by Enrico Baraldi (Collars, Ornaments), while Esben Willems (Monolord, Slower) handled the mastering at Studio Berserk in Gothenburg. Produced and published by MooDDoom Records.
The journey of Di’Aul began in 2010, and from the very beginning it has been characterized by multifaceted musical influences and a penchant for playing slow and heavy music, with particular attention to atmospheres and lyrics. Di’Aul released the EP “GV 12.31” in 2010, followed by the second album “And Then Came The Monsters” (2013), “Garden of Exile” (2015, This Is Core Records), and “Nobody’s Heaven” (2018, Argonauta Records); “EP Split with Mos Generator” (2020, Argonauta Records); “Abracamacabra” (2022, MooDDoom Records). Di’Aul has played numerous concerts in Italy and Europe, supporting bands such as Crowbar, Messa, Goblin, Jex Toth, The Ossuary, Geoff Tate, Nibiru, Ahab, and many others.

The 14th June 2024 marks the day that Karisma Records will release “The Century of the Self” the sixth full-length album from AIRBAG, one of the most prominent Prog Rock bands to have emerged from Norway in the last few decades.
And, in anticipation of that day, the label has released a second single from the album. Titled “Awakening”, this is what the band had to say about the track:
“Awakening” is one of those songs that reflects on the band’s past, with strong ties to albums like “Identity” and “All Rights Removed”, whilst at the same time venturing into new sonics and production. Lyrically, “Awakening” is a message of hope in a time where se seem to stray away from caring for each other and allowing social media to create a destructive diversion.
A video for the track “Awakening” by Crystal Media (known for their work with songwriter/producer Steven Wilson, amongst others) can be seen below.
“The Century of Self” is an album that stands as a testament to the artistic vision and enduring creativity that AIRBAG bring to their music. Touching on themes such as cancel culture and the rewriting of personal histories, it is a reflection on modern society’s zeitgeist, and a poignant commentary of today’s world, which is steeped in fear and condemnation.
Recorded at Subsonic Society, Airbag Studio, and Riis Studio, and expertly produced, mixed, and mastered by Vegard Kleftås Sleipnes, “The Century of Self” features guest appearances by Kristian Hultgren on bass on “Dysphoria” and “Tear it Down”, Ole Michael Bjørndal on guitar on “Dysphoria”, “Tyrants and Kings” and “Tear it Down” and Simen Valldal Johannessen on keyboards on “Tear it Down”.
With artwork by Asle Tostrup, track listing on “The Century of the Self” is as follows:
01. Dysphoria 02. Tyrants and Kings 03. Awakening 04. Erase 05. Tear It Down
“The Century of the Self” will be released in CD, Limited Edition Digisleeve CD and Digital formats, as well as three different LP version -Black Vinyl LP, Limited Edition Red Vinyl LP and Limited Edition Black and Red Splatter Vinyl LP.
With this latest album, AIRBAG’s lineup of Asle Tostrup on vocals, keyboards and programming, Henrik Bergan Fossum on drums, and Bjørn Riis on guitars, bass, keyboards and backing vocals, lead the listener on a sonic journey through introspection and intensity.
Opening with the track “Dysphoria”, with its mesmerizing depths, “The Century of Self” is filled with the irresistible vocal hooks and virtuoso lead guitar work for which AIRBAG has become synonymous the world-over.
From the haunting crescendo of “Tyrants and Kings,” to the introspective balladry of “Awakening” we are led towards the foreboding depths of the single “Erase” that builds from a hypnotic bass line into a powerhouse of heavy refrains, setting the stage for the epic conclusion of “Tear it Down”, a 14 minute opus that goes from serene moments of reflection towards the heaviest musical landscapes AIRBAG has ever produced.
AIRBAG has been confirmed to play three shows in Poland in October and two shows in the Netherlands in November. More shows will be announced in due course.
Poland 17 Oct: Stary Manez, Gdansk 18 Oct: Klub Progresja, Warsaw 18 Oct: Klub Kwadrat, Krakow
Netherlands 01 Nov: De Cacaofabriek, Helmond 02 Nov: Poppodium, Boerderij
The wait is over. JD MILLER finally releases its fourth studio album, titled “Empyrean”. After hitting the airwaves with singles such as “Inside the Night”, “Enemy”, “Out Of Control” and “The Butterfly”, the stakes were high for the Swedish four-piece. But, then again, JD Miller has always been on top of their game – and it’s no different in “Empyrean”. In fact, quite the contrary.
With guitar player Tommy Timonen (ex-State Of Drama) back in the lineup and Jonny Trobro (Hydra, Find Me, ex-First Signal) as a permanent new bassist, the foursome from Borås spread their sound, to a heavier sound scope (just listening to the opening track “The Butterfly” and you’ll get a view of the heaviest JD Miller ever), but also more accessible, modern tracks such as “Out Of Control” or “Alive”.
“Empyrean” is a ride that totally justifies the ”Heaviest AOR around” proclamation done by Sweden Rock Magazine, with a twist. JD Miller is now a mature band, keeping however the fresh approach to composition and lyrics. “The songs and album focuses on a story about the complex minds of people considered to be at the wrong side of the law in the universe”, the band states. “The story is accompanied by the music we love in JD Miller, drawing influences from hard rock, metal, AOR and anything that’s get’s us going melodically”.
The album was mixed and mastered by Mikael Andersson at MRG Production/Studio Soundport, in Sweden, to give it the extra punchy sound that the melodies require, making “Empyrean” the dark horse of 2024, no matter what angle you look at it: hard rock, metal, AOR or whatever.
“Empyrean” is out today on CD and digital formats via Mighty Music. Stream and order it here.

Since forming in 2018, Filthy Hippies have been at the forefront of the burgeoning South African psych scene.
