In the grand tradition of black metal supremacy, 1349 returns with a searing standalone single, “Ash of Ages”, paving the desolate path to their much-anticipated North American tour later this May. Echoing the grim roots of black metal’s full-throated cry, “Ash of Ages” ascends from the band’s profound depths to scorch the earth with its presence.

1349 have been the unrelenting force of Norwegian black metal since their rise from the realm of Alvheim in 1997. Their journey throughout the years has been relentless, an endless pursuit to refine their dark craft. With each release, they’ve etched their mark deeper into the annuls of the genre, and “Ash of Ages” is nothing less than a continuation of this furious legacy.

“Ash of Ages” is out today on all streaming services! Pre-order “Ash of Ages” on 12″ Black Vinyl today!

The Norwegian black metal titans are set to unleash their blistering storm across Eastern Canada and the U.S. this May, commencing with a thunderous roar at Dark Lord Day Festival in Munster, IN.

Along for this malevolent crusade are the enigmatic Canadian occultists Spectral Wound, the ferocious Antichrist Siege Machine from Richmond, and the spellbinding Spirit Possession hailing from Oregon.

1349 will be bringing along the new single on 12″ vinyl – lucky souls attending one of the 11 hellish rituals will get the chance to get the first new music since 1349‘s critically-acclaimed 2019 album The Infernal Pathway.

1349 is AURAL HELLFIRE. That has been, and continues to be, the primary concept since the band first rose from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997. Conceived around the founding members – vocalist and former drummer Ravn, guitarist Tjalve, and Seidemann on bass – 1349 completed their line-up with the addition of guitarist Archaon in 1999 and SATYRICON drum-legend Frost in 2001.

When their debut Liberation was unleashed in 2003, the Norwegians took the world by storm with their intense blend of old school black metal soundscapes and ultra-fast aggression. Further assaults followed in rapid succession. Beyond the Apocalypse (2004) and Hellfire (2005) cemented the band’s reputation as one of the strongest acts in the scene.

Upon the departure of founding member Tjalve, who decided to focus on his band PANTHEON I, 1349 have since continued as a four-piece – occasionally adding guest guitarists. Extensive touring aided the growth of their now massive following when the four piece opened for reunited metal legends CELTIC FROST in North America in 2006.

Impressively demonstrating that holding true to the principles of the genre do not mean nostalgia and stagnation, 1349 widened their sonic palette with Revelations of the Black Flame (2009), which was co-mixed by CELTIC FROST mastermind Tom Gabriel “Warrior” Fischer. This inspired a newfound ambient darkness from the band, which was further explored on Demonoir (2010).

Massive Cauldron of Chaos (2013) was the next milestone in the Norwegians merciless advance, scoring excellent reviews and a nomination for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen). The release sparked more festival shows as well as extensive touring, bringing 1349 to Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, the Munch Museum and Innovation Norway chose 1349 as one of four bands to create a song based on the paintings of Edvard Munch. As a result, the single Dødskamp was released earlier this year.

After performing a fiery show at Norway’s Inferno festival this year, 1349 started recording in Amper Tone studios and Studio Nyhagen with engineer Jarrett Pritchard. Thus, The Infernal Pathway was born, a sonic parallel to summoning and unleashing the beast of the abyss in all its fearsome, ferocious and powerful splendor.

Now, in 2024, the Norwegian black metal titans 1349 are readying themselves to bring AURAL HELLFIRE across the US in May & EU in October. With these rituals, they bring the fiery Ash of Ages, marking new things to come…

SMASH ATOMS Unleash Brand New Video Single ‘Into The Light’

Following their recent signing with M-Theory Audio and a video clip for the track “Down”, that has been added to almost two dozen US commercial rock radio stations yet, Gothenburg’s grungers SMASH ATOMS return with a lyric video for their latest single “Into The Light”!

Eager to follow-up the relative success of their debut and build upon it SMASH ATOMS share “Into The Light” now on all streaming/download digital platforms, while the video can be viewed here:

“Smash Atoms are very excited to release the next single ‘Into the Light’ today,” responds Martin Söderqvist. “The song dives into the depths of mortality and travelling beyond this life to where ‘many have gone before but no-one has come back alive.’ ‘Into The Light’ mixes chromatic riffing with a melodic chorus, which together with Kenji Tsunami’s visual art, takes the listener on a special journey.”

Both songs come from the band’s impending debut full-length, expected at the end of summer. Highly influenced by the ‘90s SMASH ATOMS intend to bring it all back in a new form. The quartet’s enjoyment and intention when creating their first album was to highlight a familiar yet captivating sound. Check out the music video for first single “Down” below, or stream/download the track at all digital platforms.

While the influences are obvious, there is something charming, nostalgic and infectiously endearing about the group’s material culminating in what will surface as a very strong album recorded at Crehate Studios (In Flames, Scorpions, Avatar) in Gothenburg, Sweden.

SMASH ATOMS’ story actually originates back to 2012 when they formed, releasing one smashing demo and playing a handful of magical shows before U.S.-born singer Glen Gilbert stepped out and the remaining trio changed their name to THE TORCH with Martin now also handling vocals. The Torch recorded two albums, gaining national Swedish radio play and touring all over places like Scandinavia, Germany and Italy. But two years ago, Glen (The Story Behind, Hide the Knives) and the guys reconnected and decided to revert back to their former incarnation and give SMASH ATOMS another chance and here we are. Check out “Into the Light” and “Down” and anticipate more captivating songs in the coming months!

SMASH ATOMS live:
6/6 – Belsepub Rockbaren – Gothenburg, Sweden
6/29 – Teater Buratino – Gothenburg, Sweden
8/17 – The Shack – Gothenburg, Sweden
24.08. Ackerbrand Rock Festival – Germany w/Danko Jones and more

Swedish RIKET Release New Single ‘Strålskadad’

Swedish crude death metal act RIKET have recorded a cover by Swedish hardcore/punk legends Rövsvett and their track “Strålskadad”. The song is Recorded in Studio Sunlight and is produced by Tomas Skogsberg and mastered by Dan Swanö. RIKET decided to record this track the old school way with no click track, almost no dubbing and no edits. This in order to stay true to the original tune and to remain as close to a live band as possible also in the studio.

Listen to the song here: https://orcd.co/stralskadad

RIKET was formed in 2016 by Johan Fridell and Tobias Jakobsson (both in Netherbird) together with Adrian Erlandsson (who was also in Netherbird for a brief time) in order to pursue some more death oriented music which resulted in the first EP “Vanarter” (2016, Black Lion). With the initial good response Johan and Tobias recruited a few friends locally in Stockholm and that was the start of the band.

For the first few years the band did a handful of shows each year (and a live EP) and it took until 2020 before a second EP “Ofärder” (2020, ViciSolum Productions) was released. This release marked the start of a more active band and RIKET did a few smaller festival gigs and gaining an underground momentum locally in the Stockholm area.

In 2023 Netherbird disbanded and with more of a focus on RIKET things have started to move at a much higher speed. During early 2024 the band have done several international gigs and also recorded two cover tunes in Sunlight Studio. Later 2024 the debut full length album will be recorded and from that point RIKET aims to focus on live gigs, both in Sweden and abroad.

LINE-UP:
Johan Fridell – vocals (ex Netherbird)
Tobias Jakobsson – guitars (ex Netherbird)
Micke André – bass and vocals (Terminal Prospect, ex Netherbird)
Jussi Niiranen – guitars (Terminal Prospect)
Felix Wahlund – drums (Nazghor, Hyperion)

SEIGMEN Unleash New Album “Resonans”, Out Now

Ask yourself the question: How many bands have maintained the same lineup throughout a career spanning over three decades? Just count and see how far you get. Seigmen is and remains Alex, Sverre, Noralf, Kim, and Marius.

Resonans is Seigmen‘s new album, echoing the essence of a longstanding friendship. A strong bond among five guys who found each other through music, learned to play instruments, and expressed themselves together. They solidified their friendship through muddy and sour tones from the rehearsal room on the old submarine quay, down into a basement in the city center, out to a barn outside the city, up on the heights near the old library, down into the mountain beneath the same hill, and back to a rehearsal container at the old shipyard. Always tied to their hometown, Tønsberg in Norway.

Resonans is the reverberation of endless evening rehearsals, weekends with “lefse” and freshly ground coffee in thermoses, and syncopations. Smiles, conversations, and gossip. The hard, precise, and long-term work. Love and art.

Resonans is guts and integrity, demonstrating the uncompromising nature that Seigmen has always represented.

Listen to the album here: https://orcd.co/resonans

The singles “Berlin,” “Kollaps,” and “Elskhat” have seen the light of day. Listen to “Melanchthon”, approaching two minutes, and the endless solo that ends with no more frets on the guitar neck. Listen to “Blasfem”, raw nerve for nearly eleven minutes. Listen to the space created in “Eksplodere i det stille”, The transition to a single chorus after five and a half minutes. There are many layers here. The depth is buried in the details. The ones you hear when you play the song for the third or sixth time.

Resonans is the result you get when five focused individuals return to the studio where they recorded “Total” in 1994. Carrying the same curiosity, the same hunger and the eternal urge to create. Incidentally, this year marks exactly 30 years since the release of “Total”. Recently, the book about the album was published in the series “Norske albumklassikere”, skillfully written by Even Smith Wergeland. The reference is track number two on “Total”, “Ohm”, which might be the song that best defines the band. Ohm means resistance.

Resonans is also the echo of the time it took to complete this album. The resistance along the way, in the form of a pandemic and, most notably, serious and prolonged illness. Of course, one should also acknowledge the frugality and thoroughness these years have allowed. Time to work in silence. No concerts for four years have provided ample time in the “space.” Even more lefse. Even more cups of freshly brewed coffee.

Resonans is vibrations.
Listen to the last phrases of “Når alle skjermer går i svart” (When all screens go black). The desperation in the voice of vocalist Alex is palpable, you can hear the resistance. Seigmen has always believed that it is they are at their best when there’s resistance. Listen to the first line of the lyrics in “Berlin.” All hope is lost, but never say die—it doesn’t get much clearer than that.

Resonans ends with the surprise song “Tønsberg”, nothing less than a magnificent, honest and personal tribute to the city the band hails from. In the first part of “Tønsberg,” guitarist and opera singer Marius finally unfolds his vocal prowess within the framework of Seigmen, something he has only done once before on a record. Strings tastefully arranged by the “film musician,” Ginge. Then the rest of the band kicks in halfway, and Alex takes the baton to the finish line. Marius is actually retiring as a soloist in the Norwegian national Opera this spring, where they retire early.

“Up the mountain, up in the tower. Never a stranger in the streets we walk.” “Tønsberg” might be a bit of an oddity on Resonans, but the song comes straight from the heart.

Resonans.

If you acquire Resonans in physical format, you will find it tastefully wrapped in peach pink by designer Sigurd N. Kristiansen. Master photographer Bjørn Opsahl is, as always, by Seigmen’s side. A band photo in the same color palette is taken in Kim’s living room. Pink boots under the sofa, a small nod to the band’s very first song. It reveals a band with more humor and spirit than many may think, that sets its own standard and is ready for whatever comes next.
