UNLEASH THE ARCHERS Unveil Epic Fourth Single + New Music Video ‘Blood Empress’

Canadian modern power metal icons UNLEASH THE ARCHERS recently announced the upcoming release of their massive sixth studio album, Phantoma, out this Friday, May 10, 2024 via Napalm Records! Following their highly-acclaimed latest singles “Green & Glass”, “Ghosts In The Mist” and “Seeking Vengeance”, today, the band ushers in release week with epic album closer anthem “Blood Empress”. The track tells a bittersweet tale with spine-tingling, grooving choruses before closing with a grandiose blastbeat attack amid a sea of voices.

On the new concept album, listeners join protagonist Phantoma, a Phase 4 / Network Tier 0 unit – model A, on an inspiring yet harrowing journey as she discovers the brutal truths behind the manufactured sheen of social media posturing on a dystopian, near-future planet earth. With the band’s one-of-a-kind blend of power metal, traditional heavy metal, modern prog and pop sensibilities, Phantoma spins a web of sharp musicality, high sci-fi concept and important social commentary.

Brittney Slayes of UNLEASH THE ARCHERS says about “Blood Empress”:
“This was the last song that we wrote for the album and we wrote it together in our Airbnb while we were recording. We always like to save one song to write together in the studio to give a kind of snapshot of the headspace we were in while recording, and this one was a ton of fun. We wanted to do a bit more of a radio rock track and have it be something simple that would be a blast to play live and potentially end the set with. The album story ends with Phantoma having destroyed both The Collective and the Human Council that once stood against her, but now she had all of robotkind and humankind looking to her for where to go next. We wanted the song to feel dark but also triumphant, and to hopefully be catchy enough to make the listener want to start the album all over again. The video was filmed once again by RuneGate Studio and they did an awesome job with finding a set that could parry between both the synthetic and the human sides of the story. We all love this track in UTA and hope that you all can bang your heads to it too!”

Intertwining reality with imagination, UNLEASH THE ARCHERS were inspired to utilize elements of AI during the creation of Phantoma, in keeping with its innovative theme. Frontwoman and lyricist Brittney Slayes conjured the album’s concept in 2021; before the swarm of pressing commentary surrounding AI began to reach an all-time high.

The band weaved electronic and synthwave elements throughout the album’s 10 colossal anthems, which – in line with its theme – prove much darker and heavier in comparison to the bright positivity of Abyss. Album opener “Human Era” sets the tone with imagery of a bleak, windswept futurescape that crescendos headlong into the breakneck pace of power metal bastion “Ph4/NT0mA” – a masterwork of dueling guitar solos and vocal acrobatics. Trad-metal influenced “Buried In Code” lights the way with pummeling rhythms before the album’s path turns dark on heavy metal hardened “The Collective”, with Brittney Slayes’ warm tones inviting the listener to ‘join or stand aside’! Hair-raising first single “Green & Glass” unveils the truth before the upbeat 80s flavored “Gods In Decay” and the extraordinary balladic anthem “Give It Up Or Give It All” showcase the varied song writing prowess of UNLEASH THE ARCHERS’ modern era. A trifecta of concept closers begins with the moody “Ghosts In The Mist”, leading into the soaring yet menacing “Seeking Vengeance” before closing with the bittersweet tale of “Blood Empress”.

Mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, and with lead guitarist Andrew Kingsley at the helm as both principal songwriter and producer, Phantoma is an exciting advancement in UNLEASH THE ARCHERS’ songwriting and storytelling mastery, and a giant leap forward in their towering musical trajectory.

Phantoma follows the band’s 2020 breakout album, Abyss, which won the JUNO Award for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year after debuting at #1 on the US Current Hard Music and Top New Artist charts, and was dubbed by Bandcamp as “a mandatory listen” upon release.

PORTRAIT to Release “The Host” Full-Length Album on June 21st

For almost two decades, Sweden’s PORTRAIT has delivered their brand of heavy metal darkness to the masses. Following 2021’s critically acclaimed At One With None, the band returns with their sixth album The Host, their first ever concept album, set for release on June 21st through Metal Blade Records.

Founding guitarist Christian Lindell describes the new offering as “an occult tale of sword and sorcery, accompanied by some of the most passionate heavy metal ever recorded. The story takes place in seventeenth century Sweden and revolves around an unnamed protagonist who, because of his experiences with the injustice and hypocrisy of this world, decides to seek truth and strength through its ‘Adversary.’“

Although partly inspired by historic events, the story should not be mistaken for a history lesson. “No, definitely not. There do exist court documents from that era in which people who were forced to join the army stood accused of having made pacts with the Devil, asking for luck, strength in battle and so on. That is what inspired us to place the story in that particular setting. I just caught that ball — or Baal — and ran away with it. That being said, it is no fantasy tale either, and the ‘sword and sorcery’ part will be understood by everyone reading the lyrics.“

On the musical side, PORTRAIT‘s co-founding drummer Anders Persson adds that the album “is a versatile entity, showing all sides of what has become our own style of heavy metal, identity, and sense of melody, yet with some new areas explored in several directions. There are songs that are our fastest and most ‘extreme’ so far along with songs of an almost semi ballad feeling. It blends perfectly together musically and fits the dramaturgy of the story. There are songs that will make you cry and songs that will make you shit your pants.“

As a precursor to the record’s release, today the band unsheathes their first single, “The Blood Covenant.” It is on this track that the soldier at midnight on Midsummer’s eve enters a pact with the Devil, asking for strength in battle and future abundance in exchange for the sacrament, which is to be stolen from church.

Elaborates Lindell, “This is the opening track of the album, in which the story’s main character enters an unbreakable pact and sets foot upon a path of no return. Musically, this is one of the fastest songs on the album and a straight-forward true PORTRAIT banger.“

PORTRAIT‘s The Host, the first album to feature guitarist Karl Gustafsson as part of the band’s lineup, was recorded in JFK Studio in Sweden. Mixing and production tasks were handled by singer Per Lengstedt at his own Perilous Productions Studio. The record will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in various color variants.

Irish Indie Rocker IANN BRENNAN Releases Debut Album “Start As You Mean To Go On”, Out Now

Irish indie rocker Iann Brennan‘s debut album ‘Start As You Mean To Go On‘ is out now on AGR Records.

Game Over’ is the lead single off Brennan’s debut album ‘Start As You Mean To Go On‘, written by the singer himself and performed with his band, recorded and produced by renowned Irish producer Ray Traynor. The quality of this song caught the attention of Hot Press magazine who made it their ‘Hot Press track of the day’.

Watch single ‘Game Over’: https://youtu.be/GPhJpL1eiGg

Iann Brennan is an Irish Indie Rock artist from Dublin, Ireland. Playing guitar from the age of 12 and after spending time in some bands, Iann decided to go solo and one of his first gigs was a support slot to renowned Irish band Aslan. After connecting with Irish producer Ray Traynor, who Iann has worked with ever since, he has gone on to write a collection of anthemic, melodic, catchy, heartfelt songs which are influenced by Iann’s heroes such as Oasis, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Stereophonics. His unique brand of entertainment fuses anthemic melodic songs and driving guitar lines with energetic and witty stage banter that will make you want to sing and get lost in the music.

Iann’s music reached the ears of German label AGR Television Records, where he signed to the label in 2023 and released the album ‘Start As You Mean To Go On‘, which is out now. Featured on Start As You Mean To Go On is original Aslan songwriter/bassist Tony McGuinness, who heard Brennan’s tunes and wanted to be part of the album. He brings his own flair of magical, grooving bass lines to the record. “A pleasure to be part of Iann’s debut album. He just rocks it.”

Damien Dempsey shares of the rising talent: “Within Iann Brennan’s soaring anthemic melodies are lots of wise lines between the cracking hooks. If he’s playing near you, do yourself a favour and try to get to him, he’s the bomb.”

Adding to the list of album credentials, U2’s renowned album designer Steve Averill lended his talents to the album cover, logo and artwork on Brennan’s soon-to-be-released album.

Plans are now being made for a tour during the summer/autumn of 2024. Notable past performances include opening for Damien Dempsey, Aslan, Declan O’Rourke, Mary Coghlan, Hazel O’Connor, Eddi Reader and Lisa Hannigan.

FEUERSCHWANZ have unveiled a live video for “Wardwarf”, cut from the band’s brand-new English-language album, Warriors! The video perfectly captures the intense and enthusiastic energy present at FEUERSCHWANZ shows, as was once again proven at their almost completely sold out recent headline tour, which will be continued in the fall. “Wardwarf” features Francesco Cavalieri from the dwarven metal band and TikTok sensation WIND ROSE.

The final track is a cover of the Assassin’s Creed classic “Valhalla Calling” by Miracle Of Sound, which fits perfectly into the overall work and discography of FEUERSCHWANZ. Warriors is a new milestone in FEUERSCHWANZ‘s successful career, which only knows its way to the top!

FORGOTTEN TOMB Drop Music Video for New Track ‘Nightfloating’

Depressive Black/Doom Metal overlords FORGOTTEN TOMB return with “Nightfloating” – the Italian’s eleventh studio album, scheduled for release on July 12th via Agonia Records. The album’s title track has made its debut on streaming platforms, and has received a music video, which is being premiered now, below.

New single on streaming platforms: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/forgottentomb/nightfloating

“Nightfloating” comes after four years from the critically acclaimed “Nihilistic Estrangement” and it’s an accurate picture of where the band stands these days, artistically; reinterpreting its Depressive Black Metal roots – a genre the band helped to define in the early 2000s with its classic first three records – in the light of its 25 years’ experience, FORGOTTEN TOMB reinvigorates itself with a record that blends past and present, exploring darker territories and different shades of gray. From atmospheric cuts such as the anthemic title-track and the blistering “This Sickness Withered My Heart”, to intricate yet harrowing songs such as “A Chill That You Can’t Taint” and “Unsafe Spaces”, the band tops it off with the surprising dungeon-synth detour of “Drifting” and the 10-minutes epic “A Despicable Gift”, crafting an uncompromising yet refreshing album and setting itself apart once again from all bands that followed in its footsteps. From the first note to the last, “Nightfloating” sounds unmistakably like FORGOTTEN TOMB.

The majestic cover artwork has been hand-drawn by Greek artist Satta La Main Verte, perfectly complementing the mood of the record and its lyrical themes, that follow the band’s caustic tradition while touching on various subjects, from more introspective meditations to all-out misanthropic aggression.

“We are proud of this new record, it’s been a lot of work and the fact that it’s gonna be released during the band’s 25th anniversary makes it even more special,” FORGOTTEN TOMB comments. “It doesn’t get more Forgotten Tomb than this record, it sounds like you would expect, but at the same time it’s got a fresh approach to the subject matter. There are a lot of details to be discovered throughout the tracks and we can’t wait for our fans to listen to it.”

The album was recorded at Elfo Studio in Italy between August 2023 and January 2024, and produced by Daniele Mandelli and FORGOTTEN TOMB. Daniele Mandelli, Ferdinando Marchisio and Alessandro Comerio mixed the album. Davide Tavecchia mastered it at Twilight Studio in February 2024.

1. Nightfloating
2. A Chill That You Can’t Taint

DESEKRYPTOR to Release Vinyl + CD Editions of Acclaimed “Curse of the Execrated” EP

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 8, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DESEKRYPTOR. Leave a comment

Indiana’s hard hitters DESEKRYPTOR have been bringing viciousness to the death metal scene since their inception in 2016. Their early demos, the “Curse of the Execrated” EP and the debut full-length “Vortex Oblivion” cemented a sound steeped in death metal, doom, black and everything malicious in between. Today, the band announces the very first vinyl and CD pressings of the aforementioned “Curse of the Execrated” EP on Nuclear Winter Records, set to release on June 10th 2024.

Tracklist:

01. Sadistic Incineration
02. Anthropophagic Corpse
03. Enraptured in Chants
04. Curse of the Execrated

For nearly a decade now, Indiana’s DESEKRYPTOR have been patiently perfecting their craft. In 2017 arrived two demos – Demo 2016 and “Chasm of Rot” – which were then collected together under the title of the latter and released by Blood Harvest Records on cassette later that year. A year later came a split with comrades Draghkar and the momentum seemed to be in DESEKRYPTOR‘s favor: good ‘n’ gutted death metal, with a bit of a blackened singe. Five years of silence followed until the “Curse of the Execrated” EP, which proved that the quartet had only become more poised and powerful during that hiatus.

In 2023, DESEKRYPTOR revealed the full fathom of that poise & power with their debut album, “Vortex Oblivion”. Aptly titled, “Vortex Oblivion” is a churning ‘n’ spurning vacuum of charred riffing, mangled rhythms, and dread atmosphere. As they’ve proven in the past but more so display here, DESEKRYPTOR keenly navigate that spectral divide between classic / “old school” death metal and the genre’s tendrilous developments in recent years. From heads-down tank propulsion and doomed-out stomp on to atonal and/or angular twists and mesmerizing blackened slipstreaming, no tool of death metal’s ancient and modern schools is left untouched. But, above all, it’s the manner in which DESEKRYPTOR wield those tools that puts “Vortex Oblivion” over, the band’s songwriting acumen pulling it all together to create a seamless experience and still leaving plenty of atmosphere to spare as you’re summarily crushed – and then minced. This is what classic death metal debuts are made of!
