In celebration of the album’s five year anniversary, JUNO Award-winning modern power metal frontrunners UNLEASH THE ARCHERS recently announced that their seminal 2017 full-length, Apex, will be available as a limited reissue 2-CD Earbook edition, as well as in Deluxe Digital formats, on November 18 via Napalm Records!
Both the 2-CD Earbook and Deluxe Digital versions will include the full original Apex album, plus two new bonus tracks – “Falsewave” and “Acoustipex” – genius reimaginings of original album tracks “False Walls” and “Apex”, respectively, as well as a newly mastered instrumental version of the original album. The bonus tracks will also come on a limited edition single-style 10” vinyl EP available as part of the Earbook edition.
The synthwave reimagining “Falsewave” translates perfectly with the original track’s super moody, midtempo vibes, while “Acoustipex” haunts with gothic folk/country-western cinematic flavor, breathing new life into the Apex title track. Following the reveal of “Falsewave”, fans can now experience “Acoustipex” alongside a new playthrough video!
UNLEASH THE ARCHERS frontwoman Brittney Slayes says: “We are so excited to share ‘Acoustipex’ with you all; it’s a moody acoustic take on the title track from Apex and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it! It’s got a bit of a country vibe, but we added some symphonic elements as well to stay true to the synth theme of the record.
The music video was a challenge because we all live in different cities now, but we had a great time coming up with a concept we think you might appreciate. For those of you that have seen our acoustic version of ‘Apex’ on YouTube from CTV, you will understand where our inspiration came from lol 😉 Make sure to get your pre-orders for the EP in now before they’re all gone, and let us know what you think!”

In celebration of the album’s five year anniversary, Apex will be available as a limited reissue 2-CD Earbook edition, as well as in Deluxe Digital formats, on November 18 via Napalm Records! Pre-orders for the special edition of Apex are available now.

The synthwave reimagining “Falsewave” translates perfectly with the original track’s super moody, midtempo vibes, while “Acoustipex” haunts with gothic folk/country-western cinematic flavor, breathing new life into the Apex title track. Hop in your DeLorean and jam to the electric grooves of “Falsewave” now, also listenable via a brand new lyric video!
UNLEASH THE ARCHERS frontwoman Brittney Slayes says: “Hard to believe it’s been five years since we released Apex! That record was really the beginning of a new era for us, so we are so excited to finally give it the deluxe treatment it deserves! The new bonus tracks were a lot of fun to create, as they’ve allowed us to show some of our other musical influences more prominently. The earbook is definitely the part I am most excited about though, being that the earbook for Abyss was really a sequel to the story from Apex. Now our listeners can read the full ‘Immortal Saga’ chapter by chapter and discover some new details that were too difficult to convey through the music. And, we can’t forget about the instrumental edition! We’ve had fans asking for it for a long time and we can’t wait to hear the vocal covers and new renditions they come up with! We are just so excited for everyone to get their hands on this new edition – it’s such a great way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of this album that will always remain so special to us!”

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed Brittney Slayes singer of Unleash the Archers. Slayes spoke about the upcoming tour, their Juno Award winning album Abyss, working on the next album and her putting her vocal abilities before image.
When asked if the next album will be a concept album “Yes, I think I will try and write every record from now on to have some underlying story that is the plan. It’s so much more fun and it gives you direction and it keeps everyone together on the same track during the songwriting process. Yeah that is kind of the goal. “
When will the next studio album be ready “Well if Vinyl records don’t start coming into stock, 2023. We just want to take our time, we don’t want to rush it. We got a lot of pressure on our shoulders to meet our standards.”
When asked about her opinion about putting the music first First in Unleash the Archers and not a femininity image “There is nothing wrong with feeling empowered by your own body as a woman, there is nothing wrong with that. If you want to use that to be a thing that your band is about then that is what choice is all about, do it, show it off absolutely. I am not going to say I have zero respect for you because you choose to show your body off. That is not how that works. But for me personally I started this band a long time ago when there weren’t that many women in the scene and really the only way to get noticed was to show off your femininity and to kind of play into that. I wanted it to be about the music, I wanted it to be about my voice. So I worked really hard vocally to come up with something that was captivating for people to listen to. I wanted to be noticed because of my voice and that is it. That has always been a huge driving force for me but that is just me. So if you want people to know about your band and how hot you are, go for it absolutely but that was just never my thing.”

Juno Award-nominated symphonic death metal band EX DEO recently announced the release of their upcoming full-length album, The Thirteen Years Of Nero, out August 27, 2021 via Napalm Records! On The Thirteen Years Of Nero, the collective transports the listener back to Ancient Rome with 10 cinematic masterpieces that tell the conceptual story of the reign of Emperor Nero. Accented by sounds of ancient instruments like lyra and harp and detailing the harrowing stories of Nero’s surroundings, close allies and enemies, listeners will connect with intense psychological tones of political turmoil and paranoia.
Today, following the release of their bludgeoning first single “Imperator” and its equally brutal, bloody music video, EX DEO have revealed their standout second single, “Boudicca (Queen Of The Iceni)” featuring the powerful pipes of Unleash The Archers frontwoman Brittney Slayes!
Frontman Maurizio Iacono says about “Boudicca (Queen Of The Iceni)”: “Queen Boudicca has been a symbol of freedom and rebellion in England since her ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield defending her people and their beliefs. Rome, in full expansion and under the rule of emperor Nero, was on a mission to annex Britain as a Roman province after the death of King Prasutagus (Boudicca’s husband). The Roman treaty died, and so did peace.
The song embodies the tense exchange and mind frame of Boudicca against the Roman Empire’s invasion and occupation. We are thrilled that Brittney Slayes of Unleash The Archers accepted the invitation to guest and deliver a powerful performance on this song. There’s no one that better embodies the fighting spirit of Boudicca in metal than Brittney – the choice was clear. Prepare to be transported to ancient times of war and let the metal flow!”
Guest vocalist Brittney Slayes of Unleash The Archers adds: “I was beyond excited to get the invite to be a part of this project! I am a huge EX DEO fan, plus I love the history and mythology they always incorporate into their albums, so it was a huge honour. Not to mention getting to ‘play’ the role of the iconic and powerful Boudicca was the chance of a lifetime! I have always been inspired by the warrior queen of the Iceni and could not wait to lend my voice to her part. Here’s hoping everyone enjoys this track as much as I do!”

EX DEO returns with more massive, brutal soundscapes than ever on The Thirteen Years Of Nero! The Canadian unit is led by founding frontman Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm) and producer/guitarist Jean-François Dagenais (Kataklysm, Misery Index, Despised Icon), with the stylings of Stephane Barbe (Kataklysm) on lead guitar, Jeramie Kling (Venom Inc.) on drums, Dano Apekian (Ashes of Eden) on bass and Clemens Wijers (Carach Angren, Lindemann) manning the intense orchestral score.
The Thirteen Years Of Nero pierces through the silence with its first auditory spear, “The Fall Of Claudius”, immediately drawing the listener in with a savagely heavy, grooving riff, ground-shaking swells and warning strings and horns. Discordant harmonies collide as a mosh-worthy battle riff chugs and pinches through the center of the song, showcasing the ruthlessness to come. “The Head Of The Snake” and unforgivingly immense “Britannia: The 9th At Camulodonum” balance sinister, spectral-like channels with up-tempo elements, racing like a chariot of symphonic death metal influences that careen the listener back to a sonic dimension of time forgotten. Standout opus “Boudicca (Queen Of The Iceni)” features the deft vocal stylings of Unleash The Archers frontwoman Brittney Slayes, the album’s weightiest thunderous percussion work and a glistening guitar solo, while the embers of pulsing “The Fiddle & The Fire” spark as the track traverses methodically yet steadfastly, like an iron striking a blade. “Son Of The Deified” and “What Artist Dies In Me…” bestow some of the album’s most strikingly dynamic guitar work, as well as ominous instrumentals, orchestral and choral pathways, before closing with the superb epic “The Revolt of Galba”. The track ebbs and flows between grooving, eerie piano-laden riffs and crystal-clear flourishes bestrewn with soaring strings.
With The Thirteen Years Of Nero, EX DEO have released their finest work yet while telling a timeless story of political intrigue, suspicion, evil and tyranny!
Maurizio Iacono says about The Thirteen Years Of Nero: “When it comes to Ancient Rome, the content is long, rich and extensive, the personalities reflect every society imaginable from just, fair and generous to greed, evil and merciless. The world we live in today was shaped by Rome – it doesn’t take much see it all around you in the simplest things. For this record, it was the proper time to fallow the timeline of one Rome’s most controversial figures, Nero. On this album, we follow him through his thirteen-year journey as emperor of Rome and unveil the true face of one of the world’s most worshiped villains.”
The Thirteen Years Of Nero tracklisting: 1. The Fall of Claudius 2. Imperator 3. The Head of the Snake 4. Boudicca (Queen of the Iceni) Feat. Brittney Slayes 5. Britannia: The 9th at Camulodonum 6. Vancouver, Canada based UNLEASH THE ARCHERS were formed in late 2007 by vocalist and front-woman Brittney Slayes, together with her partner and the band’s drummer Scott Buchanan. Spanning the gap between various forms of metal, genre-blending has become their speciality, and the resulting product is a potent mix of intelligent song-writing and technically versatile musicianship.
Guttural screams likened to blackened death combined with the soaring wails of a four-octave mezzo-soprano in power-metal style have created a sound unlike anything else in the industry.
UNLEASH THE ARCHERS have been described as “show-stealers” and “wildly entertaining” by fans and peers alike, and they strive to put on a show that will stick with you long after you’ve left the venue. Since having signed to Napalm Records in 2015 the band broadened their fan base extensively which they will continue to do with their extended Soul-Bounding Across Europe 2021 tour.
Brittney Slayes states: “I think it goes without saying that we are all insanely excited to see live shows start happening again. Not being able to tour for the last year has been agony, and not just because we love playing music; we miss our fans like crazy! We can’t wait to see all your smiling faces and hang out with you all at the shows. We are also beyond stoked to get to play the new album live for the first time as well! We’ve loved hearing from everyone what their favourite songs are and we just know we are going to hear your voices loud and clear on the ‘Soul-Bounding Across Europe Tour’ this winter! See you on the road real soon!”

In August, breakout Canadian melodic metal quartet UNLEASH THE ARCHERS dropped one of the most highly-acclaimed albums of 2020, Abyss, sparking serious buzz in the metal and rock communities, and beyond. Deservingly, the conceptual benchmark scored banner praise from critics and fans alike, with Stereogum dubbing the opus “a ripper”, and Bandcamp enforcing it as “a mandatory listen”. Upon release, Abyss charted worldwide, debuting at the #1 spot on the US Current Hard Music and Top New ArtistAlbum charts, #4 and #8 on the US and Canadian Billboard Top 200 Hard Rock charts as well as on #21 in the German album charts.
Today, the band is following up on the album’s successes by throwing fans a hefty bonus in the form of a new video for the post-drop fan favorite “Legacy” – one of Abyss‘ standout anthems. Searing in with breakneck blastbeats, cosmic guitar work and frontwoman Brittney Slayes’ impeccable vocal delivery, the pop-tinged anthem single-handedly proves the band’s position as one of this generation’s premier heavy acts, bar none. The new video provides an introspective live-action backdrop to the track’s conceptual lyrics.
Frontwoman Brittney Slayes explains: “This song means a lot to us as a band, it’s pretty different from everything that we’ve done before and really set the tone for the sonic exploration that is Abyss. When Andrew first brought the intro riff to us we immediately loved it, but we were a little hesitant as we felt our fans might not understand why we were choosing to include this style of track on the album. The hesitation was momentary though, as we all very quickly decided it was too cool not to continue writing, and luckily it seems like our fans have fallen in love with it as well. It’s quite theatrical, and yet somehow very simplistic as well.”
Slayes adds about the video:“When it came time to choose the next song for a music video, “Legacy” was the resounding winner, but we wanted to do something a bit more than the traditional lyric video. The band all agreed that this is the kind of track that you put on when you’re commuting, when you’re wandering through the city just vibin’, when you’re on that long bus ride or skytrain ride staring out the window at the world passing by… So that’s what this video is. It’s you hanging out in our heads as we walk the streets of Vancouver, traveling towards something, or away from something, but always moving forward. We hope “Legacy” can be your soundtrack to those everyday moments in life, when you’ve finally put the phone away to really look around and enjoy the beauty of the world that surrounds you. We genuinely hope it can be a small light in this seemingly never ending darkness, even just for a moment.”
