Oslo’s dynamic metal force, Oberst, released their latest single, “Bad Run,” on March 8th. Following their acclaimed debut album from 2020 “Paradise”, Oberst continues to push boundaries with their captivating sound that defies easy categorization.

About the new single Oberst shares:
“At some point you can’t be bothered with getting back up. Blow after blow makes an old dog bitter, and that is perfectly fine. From what we’ve heard there is quite the show at the end, as your life flashes before your eyes like it’s fucking new years eve.”

“Bad Run” offers a glimpse into Oberst’s evolving musical prowess, blending atmospheric riffs with intense vocals. The band, influenced by acts like Mastodon, Baroness, Converge, and Cult of Luna, has carved a unique identity by drawing from diverse musical backgrounds.

As anticipation builds for “Bad Run,” Oberst sets the stage for their upcoming album, “Toil,” set to release in April, 2024. The album is a culmination of three years of dedicated effort, and it promises to deliver a fresh and exciting sound that transcends the boundaries of traditional rock and metal.

OBERST:
Tarjei Kristoffersen – Vocals/Guitar
Dennis Estensen – Guitar
Joakim Karlsen – Bass
Johan Fredrik Bolli – Drums

About Oberst:
Hailing from Oslo, Norway, Oberst emerges as a compelling force in the metal scene. The dynamic quartet was bound by a shared passion for music rather than a specific genre, and their sound evolved finding common ground with bands like Mastodon, Baroness, Converge, and Cult of Luna. However, the band’s unique imprint extends beyond these influences, drawing from individual members’ diverse musical backgrounds, spanning classic rock and jazz to modern pop.

The release of their self-titled debut EP in 2015 was met with critical acclaim and praised as «some of the best metal produced in Norway for a long time» –HISSIG.
The singles from the 4-track EP got played and recommended on national radio and featured on the acclaimed Norwegian TV series «Unge Lovende». In 2020 Oberst released their debut album “Paradise”, and received praise for their ability to blend huge, warm and atmospheric riffs with hectic and catchy elements driven by intense and at times manic vocals.

After the release of their EP, Oberst signed with Indie Recordings, and released the debut album “Paradise” in 2020.

THE GRAMMERS Release New Single + Video ‘Live It Up’ from Upcoming Eighth Album

Finnish classic rock band THE GRAMMERS traveled to Rockfield Studios in Wales to record their eighth album in the footsteps of mammoths. Now the album, named after the studio made famous by Queen and Rush, is previewed with the ‘Live It Up’ single and video. The song’s music video was shot on Kingsley Ward’s backyard moor in Rockfield’s Wye Valley, and in midst of the sessions.

The upcoming album was mainly recorded live and on analog in Monmouth, Wales, and many top international mixers and professionals eventually participated in its making. ‘Live It Up’ represents the band’s most popular sound so far – the single was mixed and produced by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, U2, HIM, Sepultura) and mastered at Sterling Sound in Nashville.

The Grammers – Live It Up
Music & Lyrics by Hannu Vainionpää, Ville Vesalainen, Hannu Huitu, Saku Kujala, Jussi Vuola, Tuomo Pfaler, Timo Toikka
Recorded by Joe Jones, Rockfield Studios, The Quadrangle
Mixed by Tim Palmer
Mastered by Justin Shturtz, Sterling Sound
Cover art by Rami Mursula
Distributor: Playground Music Scandinavia.

The Grammers, founded in Säkylä, Finland in 1999, are the northern torchbearers of classic rock. The band is known as an extremely strict and uncompromising live act. The band’s strengths are based on the interpretation of Hannu Vainionpää – one of the most talented heavy rock vocalists in Finland, the highly refined and catchy composition work, and the virtuoso mastery of vintage instruments by its members.

Hannu commented on the recording process of the album as follows:
“Rockfield had a pretty magical atmosphere (even if it sounds cliché); a quiet enclosed yard, nice local people, the right kind of atmosphere that helped to focus on what was essential, i.e. making the record. It was nice to stay and watch the horses and cows in the pasture and play a little bit of billiards and table tennis on session breaks. All in all, the atmosphere was very homely. When I found out that I was going to sing to the same microphone that Ronnie James Dio sang – of course, it sent chills down my spine for a moment. That we are now part of a certain kind of great continuum. And I think you can hear it both on this first single and also on the whole album. It was a great time, a great session, good memories. And it really couldn’t have gone any better!”

Also participating in the sessions was cinematographer-director Petri Vilén, who is responsible for the videos and photos. A documentary about the band’s journey is also being prepared.

Australian rock sensation Greystone Canyon second album “Iron & Oak” is now available as of March 8th from Rockshots Records. This highly anticipated full-length is the follow-up to their successful 2020 debut “While the Wheels Still Turn”. Known for their unique blend of tone, feel, and honest rock, “Iron & Oak” promises an even more captivating musical journey.

Since their formation in 2015-2016, Greystone Canyon has been committed to delivering a sound that is true to their passion for music. Their sophomore album, a stylistic extension of their debut, aims to capture the essence of who they are as individuals and musicians. The band hopes that fans will embrace the new offering and connect with the music on a deeper level.

Stylistically diverse, “Iron & Oak” features a range of songs, from immediate and catchy tunes to dramatic and epic compositions. The band has incorporated additional instruments, such as 12-string guitar, Hammond organ, strings, and piano, to enhance the listening experience. With a deliberate effort to provide a longer and more immersive album, Greystone Canyon moves away from instrumentals and interludes, presenting back-to-back songs.

The lyrics draw inspiration from various sources, including personal experiences, historical facts, and a shared love for the Wild West. Songs explore themes of reflection on youth, facing adversity, and choosing one’s life path. Greystone Canyon draws from life’s intricacies, weaving them into a tapestry of music that resonates with listeners.

The album’s lead single, “We All Become Yesterday,” showcases the band’s rock roots with a touch of pop influence. The song’s groove, reminiscent of Toto’s “Rosanna,” coupled with a straightforward arrangement and a sing-along chorus, sets the stage for what promises to be an exceptional musical journey.

Reflecting on the evolution of the band’s sound, Greystone Canyon consciously expanded their musical palette, the album aims to encapsulate everything the band loves about music while staying true to their passion.

With “Iron & Oak”, Greystone Canyon invites listeners to join them on a musical exploration that spans the spectrum of their influences. The band hopes that the album will connect with audiences on a profound level, offering a timeless experience that stands the test of time.

The influences that can be heard are Ozzy Osbourne , Led Zeppelin, Megadeth.

Formed in 2012, Swiss thrashers Comaniac gained acclaim with their self-released debut, “Return To The Wasteland,” crowned as “THE Thrash Highlight 2015.” The 2017 release, “Instruction For Destruction,” via SAOL, showcased growth, with tracks like “COAL” gaining international radio play and media attention.

Extensive touring ensued, supporting acts such as OVERKILL and METAL CHURCH. In 2018, they embarked on the “Kamikazee – The Spirit Of Japan” Tour, introducing a Japan Edition of their second offering through CAPTURED RECORDS. Following a 7-inch split with US outfit IRONFLAME and a 2019 European tour, 2020 brought their third album, “Holodox,” produced by Tommy Vetterli (CORONER), receiving critical acclaim.

In 2021, they toured Switzerland with BURNING WITCHES and played major metal festivals. The momentum continued in 2022, joining VEKTOR (USA) for the “Activate Europe 2022” Tour, performing 26 shows consecutively. Anticipation grew in 2023 with the announcement of their fourth studio album, “None For All,” and a deal with WORMHOLEDEATH. FALL OF SERENITY Reveal New Single ‘Chaos Reign’

Chaos Reign is the 4th and final pre-album single  from the band’s forthcoming new album Open Wide, O Hell, which is set to be released in two weeks on March 22nd!

Good things come to those who wait. FALL OF SERENITY are back with a new album ten years after their reunion. Their split lasted from 2009 to 2012. For the last five-four, the quintet has been preparing the release of “Open Wide, O Hell”. Were the musicians inspired by their former bassist Linus Klausenitzer (ALKALOID, OBSIDIOUS, OBSCURA/FALL OF SERENITY 2008-2009), who released his solo debut “Tulpa” in the fall of 2023? Maybe!

“Open Wide, O Hell” is also variably written and comes up with a good dose of surprises. The basis of the album still lies in melodic death metal, which is associated with the East German band founded in 1998. But a black metal impact is also to be attributed to the new song material and changes the musical face decisively. Besides, impressive melodies continue to lead FALL OF SERENITY through their songs. Quite a few of the tracks are true headbangers.

This has been the case since the times of the unforgotten, legendary split with HEAVEN SHALL BURN from 1999. The band around frontman John Gahlert enjoys cult status in the European melo-death underground.

With the new record, the musicians continue where they left off in 2009. “Open Wide, O Hell” – after “Bloodred Salvation” (2006) and “The Crossfire” (2007) the third album of the group for LIFEFORCE RECORDS – convinces with raw aggression and threatening darkness. FALL OF SERENITY succeeds not only to meet expectations surrounding their comeback, but to exceed them!

ALBUM TRACK LIST:

  1. Thy Pathway
  2. Darkness, I Command
  3. I Don’t Expect I Shall Return
  4. Wastelands
  5. I
  6. Chaos Reign
  7. A Winter Song
  8. To Tear the Flesh
  9. … But Grim Will Follow
  10. II
  11. I Am the God
