MASTER BOOT RECORD Announce North American Spring Tour

Italy-based electronic metal project MASTER BOOT RECORD (MBR) will make its way to North American soil this Spring for a rare ten-date run of live performances!

MASTER BOOT RECORD is helmed by technologist/producer/songwriter Victor Love (AKA Vittorio D’Amore). Founded in 2016, Love fuses heavy metal and synthesized electronic music to fabricate a sound that exists in a singular category of its own. The live shows see D’Amore taking the stage along with guitar virtuoso Edoardo Taddei on lead guitars and technical death metal drummer Giulio Galati and features stunning retro-visuals in a journey into demoscene, crack scene, and retrogaming.

Love comments, “The live sound of MASTER BOOT RECORD is the result of combining synth guitars and chiptune leads from studio albums written by myself via MIDI with live performed guitars playing in sync with them. This is especially challenging for lead guitar parts that aren’t written according to natural guitar playing positions. By combining synthesizers and real instruments — baritone guitar, lead guitar and drums — the live show of MBR is a different experience from the studio albums that are instead 100% synthesized.”

The MASTER BOOT RECORD live journey will commence on May 2nd at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York and close on May 12th in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Tickets are on sale now at mbrserver.com. See all confirmed dates below.

MASTER BOOT RECORD‘s most recent studio offering, Personal Computer, was released in 2022 on Metal Blade Records. Personal Computer serves as Love’s eighth full-length album since emerging -as an 8-bit ghost -from the bulletin board system (BBS) scene in 2016. A symbolism-rich mélange of intensely ornate yet driving digital orchestrations, don’t call Personal Computer synthwave, or whatever new-fangled term is being used to describe MASTER BOOT RECORD‘s masterful video game-like scoring. To put it simply: this is metal done with a synth.

Notes Love, “The main elements include chiptune, demoscene, and video game music, thrash/death metal and some black metal as well as classical and symphonic patterns and progressive structures. But everything is programmed and done with synthesizers.”

The result, influenced as much by classical baroque music, Bay Area thrash, and Commodore 64 games, is a frenzied mashup of what logic suggests should be disparate sounds, but in the hands of MBR, make sense, taking the listener in unexpected and always thrilling directions, smashing through genre walls.

Israeli-based Gothic Doom Metal band Inner Missing have released their 10th studio album ‘The Diary’ via Finnish Inverse Records, today, March 7th 2024.

Sigmund comments:
“I always valued music above everything because for me it is a perfect means of expression, and, which is more important, exploration of any phenomenon imaginable. Every time I started to write a song I entered a quest with an unpredictable finale which could be (and often was) surprising and even disappointing. There were times to explore the inner cosmos, the realms of subconscious and the events that took place long before I was born – and now came the time to experience and explore the depths of homesickness, solitude and loss. The journey is still far from over, and even while being fired upon I continue to do the only thing I consider meaningful – creating music.”

Ukraine’s hottest and most exciting band, JINJER, have just announced their first official live DVD/BluRay, Live in Los Angeles, set for release on May 17, 2024 via Napalm Records. Recorded and filmed on December 22, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA, USA, this offering is intended to celebrate not only getting through the last few years in one piece, but also a celebration of the bands 15 year career.

Through their relentless hard work, matchless talent and non-stop touring, the four-piece has manifested its standing as one of the best live acts to date, gaining them a fiercely loyal, rabid fanbase and audience of millions of people at the biggest festivals worldwide – such as Hellfest, Rock am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, Download Festival and Rocklahoma USA, plus sold-out headline shows across Europe and North America. Together with the announcement of their new live offering, JINJER have dropped a neck-breaking live video for “Call Me A Symbol”,  a track originally cut from their chart breaking latest studio album, Wallflowers (2021).

JINJER on Live in Los Angeles:
“Our sold-out Los Angeles show at the end of our 2022 tour was the perfect time and place to do something special – something like a long awaited DVD/live album by JINJER! The totally packed, legendary venue, the crazy west coast vibes, and most importantly, the band delivering it with full force after being on tour for 6 months around the globe – from Europe to Australia and back to the USA – made this an extra special night. For the fans who joined us that night at The Wiltern, it was an unforgettable concert, but now every single JINJER supporter around the world can experience and enjoy an ideal set featuring our biggest hits from older albums as well as recent bangers. This is not just a DVD or a live album, but a celebration of the first 15 years of the JINJER story, right before we move on to the next chapter…”

Live in Los Angeles was a spontaneous decision by the band, recorded as raw as possible, to emphasize the passion that can come from a live show. This release is an explosive mixture of JINJER’s discography – featuring fan favorites like “Sit Stay Roll Over”, “Home Back” and the game changing “Pisces”. The live album contains 16 songs in various audio formats, with some strictly limited: the Deluxe Digipack features not only a DVD, but also two more songs, “Wallflower” & “Disclosure!”, recorded in Paris in 2023.

FOLTERKAMMER Share BTS Footage for Making of ‘Leck Mich!’ Music Video

Operatic black metal rising stars FOLTERKAMMER are now sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the band’s Rococo “Fight Club” style music video for the song “Leck Mich!” The video was once again directed by FOLTERKAMMER drummer Brendan McGowan and produced by Vile Luxe Studios. Watch the making of “Leck Mich!” at THIS LOCATION.

The original video is 18th century class against 21st century crass; a bloody journey into the Rococo underground and its lustful ringleader, vocalist and frontwoman Andromeda Anarchia. The clip can be found HERE.

The song is taken from the band’s sophomore full-length, ‘Weibermacht,’ which is due on April 19, 2024 via Century Media Records!

’Weibermacht’ serves as a counterpart to the band’s 2020 debut, ‘Die Lederpredigt.’ The new record is another searing blend of modern black metal and classical music elements, lending to its Avant Garde sound. The music itself is elevated by frontwoman and vocalist Andromeda Anarchia’s dynamic vocal work as she juxtaposes her classical training as an opera singer with her hellfire screams, summoning a maelstrom of ethereal chaos. Pre-orders are now live HERE.

In addition, FOLTERKAMMER has recently announced their first ever U.S. tour! The rising powerhouse will be embarking on an East Coast headliner with support from WITCHING, which kicks off on March 22 in Baltimore and will circle back to the band’s hometown of Brooklyn, NY on March 30. The full itinerary can be found below!

The album artwork for ‘Weibermacht’ was created by Eliran Kantor.

Founded in New York around 2018/2019, Folterkammer, or “Torture Chamber,” is the operatic black metal outfit that is redefining modern music. This ingenious band seamlessly fuses beauty with brutality. A combination of raw passion and technique contributes to the epic nature of Folterkammer’s dark art. Their work is both nostalgic and remarkably fresh. Yes, Folterkammer fuses various musical traditions and genres to craft an unparalleled experience.

Folterkammer is composed of Andromeda Anarchia on vocals, Zachary Ezrin on guitars, Darren Hanson on guitars, Laurent David on bass, and Brendan McGowan on drums. Both Anarchia, who hails from Switzerland, and David, who was born in Paris, divide their time between Europe and Brooklyn. Thus, even though the group can be described as international, Anarchia states: “It took New York to create Folterkammer.” Her project Andromeda Anarchia’s DARKMATTERS acted as the catalyst that brought her to the Big Apple, where she met Ezrin. Many metalheads already know that Anarchia has appeared as a guest on the three most recent albums by Ezrin’s brainchild Imperial Triumphant — a leading avant-garde band that marries extreme metal, jazz, classical components, etc. McGowan has also provided guest vocals for Imperial Triumphant, and Hanson lent his songwriting excellence to their 2012 instrumental track “Scaphism.”

Ezrin, McGowan, and Hanson have a wealth of shared history. These friends attended college together in California, where Hanson and Ezrin studied classical composition. Thus, much of Folterkammer’s orchestration is classically based. Hanson harbors a special love of Baroque music and knows precisely how to expertly wed it with his passion for black metal. Folterkammer was actually conceived when Ezrin proposed that Anarchia collaborate with him on some of Hanson’s material. Ezrin writes killer riffs and more for the band. McGowan was invited to join Folterkammer on Hanson’s wise suggestion. His drums are perhaps the heaviest element keeping one of Folterkammer’s limbs firmly anchored in traditional black metal. McGowan mines inspiration from different generations of acts: He names 1349 and old-school heroes like Blasphemy and Marduk. That said, black metal fans will also be pleased to hear the spirit of the second wave in the aggression of Folterkammer’s tremolo picking, for example.

The exceptionally skilled David, Folterkammer’s newest weapon, truly perfects the group with his golden touch on bass. Whereas the bass is not always as prominent as it could be in the content of many black metal groups, Folterkammer purposely allows David’s bass to shine through. Like his bandmates, David is an avid consumer of several forms of music, and thus creates delightfully eclectic art. He has received both classical and jazz training. This major talent has toured worldwide alongside musicians and bands such as Ibrahim Maalouf, Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, Yael Naim, and Shijin. David has done so both as a side man and as a band leader/producer. Anarchia and Ezrin already knew David before asking him to join Folterkammer. After all, David founded the “avant metal-jazz trio” Kilter of which Imperial Triumphant’s Kenny Grohowski is an essential part.

Singer Marius comments:
“The music video for the album title track ‘Welcome To Your Nightmare‘ is edited from live footage we recorded at our gigs in 2023 and is meant to reflect the energy we unleash together with our fans at our shows every time. A clip we dedicate to all the insane necrosouls and metalheads out there!”

High tension is guaranteed:
“Welcome To Your Nightmare” energetically takes the listener on a gripping journey into the dark abysses of human psychology, leaving you hardly any time to catch your breath – the deliciously tight, bludgeon-from-the-bag quartet really does more than justify the legend surrounding the band’s name!

Tireless headbangers, maniacal Thrashers and hungry Groove heads will all get their money’s worth.

FULL OF HELL Announce New Album “Coagulated Bliss”, Release First Single + Video ‘Doors to Mental Agony’

American grindcore outfit Full of Hell will release their brand new full-length Coagulated Bliss on 26th April, 2024 via Closed Casket Activities. The album’s first single ‘Doors to Mental Agony’ premieres today alongside a music video directed by Eric Richter.

Stream ‘Doors to Mental Agony’ here: https://orcd.co/coagulatedbliss

Walker comments on the track: “In this life there are many doors. Rural America exists in a vacuum with its own mundane horrors and dead ends. Every person you know will stumble through one of these doors at some point, falling into mistakes that can’t be undone. Look on reality and weep.”

Pre-orders for Coagulated Bliss are available here: https://closedcasketactivities.com/collections/full-of-hell

Full of Hell burst forth with incredible force from the small, dagger-shaped city of Ocean City, Maryland, 15 years ago. Over five full-lengths, five collaborative full-lengths, and countless splits, EPs, singles, and noise compilations, they’ve evolved at extraordinary speed, their music becoming more complicated and technical without ever slowing down or losing its soul. Everything on a Full of Hell album feels like a blur: smears of guitar, harsh noise shaken like gravel in a bag, singer Dylan Walker’s snarl and bite carrying him into outer space or into the core of the earth. They’re coiled, interlocking, impossible to penetrate, and they move with alarming speed.

Coagulated Bliss was written and recorded shortly after Full of Hell completed When No Birds Sang, their collaborative album with Nothing. Working with the Philadelphia shoegazers gave Full of Hell new insight into the emotional and artistic power of classic pop songwriting, and to the importance of following a song where it wants to go. “That was a good experience of learning how to find what actually services a song,” Hazard says. “Even with Roots of Earth Are Consuming My Home, even when we’ve had an extreme grindcore influence, I still wanted it to be catchy.” Walker also cites the band’s work with The Body for helping him to “recognize that there was value in pop music.” Accordingly, Coagulated Bliss features some of Full of Hell’s strongest songwriting: Gone is the frenetic flailing of Garden of Burning Apparitions and Weeping Choir; in its stead is a richer, thicker sound, one that’s considerably less ornamented—and somehow heavier than ever.

While the focus on songwriting already makes Coagulated Bliss the most grounded album in Full of Hell’s catalog, it’s also the first Full of Hell record that tries in earnest to reflect the world around it—not in some broad, monotony-of-evil way, but the everyday horrors of life in small town America. Three of the four members of the band were raised in Ocean City. Hazard and Bland still live there, while Walker is located in central Pennsylvania and bassist Samuel DiGristine relocated to Philadelphia. “The American dream is small towns,” Hazard says. “But anyone that’s grown up in a small town realizes it’s just as fucked up in a small town as it is in a big city—if not more, because it’s more condensed.”

Walker’s lyrics have always framed their suffering with what he calls “fantastical, metaphorical shit,” but on Coagulated Bliss his writing is clear and direct. The album’s title is meant partly to reflect the idea of the over-pursuit of happiness leading to misery—whether in addiction, greed, or anything else. “Your happiness is just out of reach and you don’t know why,” he says. “Too much of this bliss, you think you’ve found your endpoint, but it’s really just this small, tiny, little thing that’s going to ruin your fucking life. And that could be anything.”  The album’s viciousness and Walker’s clear reading of the world around him might scan as misanthropy, but it comes from a place of disappointment that’s driven by a deep love for people and life and the world. “There’s not a lot of anger, to be honest,” he says. “I’ve never felt anger when we’re playing, ever. It feels like electricity that’s built up in my body that has to get out. But I feel more profoundly sorrowful than I ever do anger.”

The world may be in a constant state of bitter flux, but Full of Hell have never sounded more at home in it. “We’ve shed any kind of ‘do we belong in this space, what do people expect of us,’” Walker says. “The joy is in the pursuit.” The loosening of their grip on the direction of their music has made it feel paradoxically closer to the bone. “People tend to burrow themselves so deeply into things they love,” Walker says. “It’s too much of a good thing, and it almost cheapens it.” By paring back their sound, Full of Hell aren’t just finding a new way forward: They’re proving that a little bit less of a good thing can add up to so much more.

Coagulated Bliss was recorded at Developing Nations in Baltimore by Kevin Bernstein, mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit Recording Studio in Van Nuys California and mastered by Nick Townsend of Infrasonic Sound in Los Angeles California.

Track-list:

  1. Half Life of Changelings
