Rising hard rock outfit S.O.R.M has just dropped a powerful new single, featuring legendary Doug Blair of W.A.S.P. The track, titled “Under My Skin”, showcases the band’s signature blend of contemporary and traditional heavy music, with a touch of power ballad magic.
“I am very proud of a collaboration that began already 2 years ago, when Micke Holm asked if I’d contribute a lead to a track being recorded by his band S.O.R.M“, says Doug Blair.
“I’d met Micke a while after he purchased the very last unsold 1990s BLAIR MUTANT TWIN double neck acoustic/electric guitar, which I delivered to his colleague in Stockholm. We’ve performed together quite a few times since then, in Sweden and Finland, as a duo and with the S.O.R.M Band. It’s been great to know the guys, and be involved a bit in their growth!”
He continues:
“Cautiously agreeing to take a listen to a song (always being naturally skeptical), ‘Under My Skin’ enthralled on first listen! Micke’s vocal delivery, the lyrics and dynamics of the arrangement all made me PUMPED UP to craft something cool for the emotional solo section. Last year, we finally found time to meet and mix the song in Stockholm – as I had requested (and demoed) a few effective overall arrangement/dynamics ideas, which I thought would improve the results! If you enjoy my leads on “Heaven’s Hung”, “Miss You”, etc., you WILL enjoy this song and lead! Give these guys a listen, and soon l’ll announce an upcoming appearance with Micke again!“
Guitarist and vocalist Micke Holm about the track:
“This version of ‘Under My Skin’ was the original version of the song from the beginning. It was meant to be on the album but unfortunately was not finished in time. That’s why we did a piano version for the record. In this power ballad version, we have the honor to work with Doug Blair from the legendary W.A.S.P and Anna Brygård from The Nightflight Orchestra.“
Furthermore, this song in particular is a very special piece of music for guitarist and singer Micke Holm, as the band reveals: “Under My Skin is a very personal song to Micke. It’s about him battling with depression and suicidal anxiety for many years. And it’s also a reminder to all you who have anxiety or know someone who has, that you’re not alone! We are all brothers and sisters battling the same war!“
Formed in 2017, S.O.R.M quickly made a name for themselves with their hook-laden EP “Hellraiser” (2020). With influences ranging from Grand Magus to Ghost and Judas Priest, S.O.R.M has carved out a unique sound that appeals to a wide heavy music audience. The band, consisting of Micke Holm on guitar and vocals, Johan Östman on bass, and Robin Wernebratt on drums, signed with Noble Demon in 2020 and released their debut full-length record in August 2023. Tracks like “I Die For My Rock N Roll” (feat. Dee Snider guitarist Nick Petrino) and “Crazy” have already garnered attention from fans and critics alike and with their latest single featuring Doug Blair of W.A.S.P, the band continues to set the bar high – in S.O.R.M style!

From Atlanta, Georgia, Eddie 9V has made a name for himself in the blues scene in the south, wowing all types of audiences with his searing Freddie King-style approach to guitar and his original retro/soul songs.
He is hailed as one of the most dynamic and highly entertaining guitarists and singer songwriters on the music circuit right now. His music has been described by Rock and Blues Muse as “fresh and life-affirming,” while Classic Rock described Eddie’s music as, “the most instinctive blues you’ll hear all year.”

As far back as he can remember, Capricorn Studios was calling Eddie 9V. As a kid scanning the sleeves of his favourite vinyl records, this fabled facility in Macon, Georgia, was always the secret ingredient, adding a little grit and honey to every song born on its floor. Capricorn and the bands who blew through it urged the Atlanta guitarist to ditch school at 15, play his fingers bloody throughout the south, and turn apathy into acclaim for early albums Left My Soul in Memphis (2019) and Little Black Flies (2021).
Eddie spent his first quarter-century admiring Capricorn from afar. But in December 2021, the 26-year-old finally put his thumbprint on the studio’s mythology, corralling an eleven-strong group of the American South’s best roots musicians to track his third album. “There was overwhelming excitement at being in such a legendary studio,” he says. “But we hugged and got right to work. Everyone was joyous, loving, and flat-out playing their asses off.”
You don’t come to Capricorn Studios for polish. Frozen in time since its opening day in 1969, the mojo from sessions by giants like the Allman Brothers and Otis Redding still hangs in the air, while the recording philosophy remains gloriously raw. That suited Eddie, whose output has been celebrated for its warts-and-all snapshot of what went down. “In a world where everyone is trying to sound the best, I’m trying to sound like me,” he reasons. “I always want the listener to feel like they’re in the room with us. So I’d leave it in if a drum pedal squeaked or someone laughed during a take on the Capricorn album. It’s our way of putting a stamp on the song.”
Eddie’s old-school ethos goes way back. Born Brooks Mason in June 1996, he acquired his first guitar aged six, “One of those with the speaker in it – the most bang for your buck, y’know?,” ignored the prevailing pop scene at Oak Grove High School in favour of local heroes like Sean Costello and studied “older cats” like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Freddie King, and Rory Gallagher “to see what made them groove and tick.” His shoot-from-the-lip lyrics adds Eddie came from family fish fries, where his Uncle Brian “taught me to make people laugh, how to hold an audience’s attention.”
When Eddie infiltrated his home state’s live circuit – first with covers band The Smokin’ Frogs, then its more adept blues-rock offshoot, The Georgia Flood – he quickly pricked up ears everywhere he played. His artistic vision became full realized when he killed Brooks Mason and adopted the solo moniker that promises an electrifying night out, “Eddie 9 Volt”.
“There are too many Joe Schmo R&B bands,” he reasons. “I was on the road with another band, and we were talking like mobsters. So, we gave each other names – mine was Eddie.”
Already, there has been massive acclaim for his early output, with Left My Soul in Memphis dubbed “fresh and life-affirming” by Rock & Blues Muse and Little Black Flies praised by Classic Rock as “the most instinctive blues you’ll hear all year.” But as the Capricorn sessions ticked closer, Eddie fused the nervous energy into his best songs yet. “Coming off a straight blues record, I wanted to show people we’re more than that,” he reflects. “I was listening to Muscle Shoals and soul, a lot of music recorded at Capricorn in the late-’60s too. So, we spent way more time crafting the new tunes. Each song took a week to write, instead of five in one night like Little Black Flies.”
“Beg, Steal and Borrow” is ballsy soul with Eddie’s spit flecking the mic. “Yella Alligator” is as swampy-sounding as the title, with slide guitars lapping around cardboard-box beats. Bout To “Make Me Leave Home” is a propulsive shuffle, Eddie’s vocal seemingly made up in the moment. The gospel touched “Are We Through” catches a breath before How Long drapes mellow organ over bone-dry riffs. “It’s Goin’ Down” fuses porch blues with psychedelic woodwind, while “Tryin’ To Get By” brings brassy strut while concealing lyrics from the perspective of a man on a downward spiral, surviving on the crumbs of a love affair. “The lyrics and meanings of these new songs are way deeper,” says Eddie. “Take the song “It’s Goin’ Down”. It’s really about my struggle with alcohol, the dangerous nightlife of bars, and the drugs offered to you in the music industry. But then, one of my favourite tunes, “Yella Alligator,” is about a fictional psychedelic party in the bayou…”
Likewise, Capricorn is an album of thrilling musical contrasts. Bob Dylan’s “Down Along the Cove” is a pugnacious blues-rocker, followed by Khristie French’s gossamer lead vocal on the spiritual Mary Don’t You Weep. Mellow Missouri is dusty as a great lost soul session, while brass punches through the glassy chords of “I’m Lonely”. Finally, the album ends with Eddie’s laughter as he realizes he has no more to give: “I gotta come out of this room…!”
Never meet your heroes, they say, and many young artists have been overwhelmed by walking the holy ground of their dream studios. At Capricorn, Eddie 9V breathed in the history – but the album he spat out is worthy of sharing the name, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the studio’s greatest hits, and taking music back to the golden age. “We made this record,” he considers, “the way they would have done in 1969…”

PARACRONA, born from the chance meeting of Ringo Christiaan Van Droffelaar and Øystein Hansen at Wacken Open Air in 2007, melds artistic vision with melodic intensity. Hailing from the Netherlands and Norway, these diverse talents, bonded by a love for metal music, embarked on a musical journey that redefined their artistry.
Their collaboration ignited in Oslo a few months later, intertwined Øystein’s seasoned guitar expertise, honed in bands like Fortid, with Ringo’s fervor for expression and songwriting finesse. The recording odyssey for “Sun God” began in the fall of 2016, resulting in a sonic exploration traversing metal styles, termed affectionately as “Titanium” or “Quantum Realism Metal.”
Themes of spiritual growth and societal struggle infuse their lyrics, encapsulating real-life chapters within each track. Despite hurdles, including Ringo’s battle with cancer in 2021, collaborations with professionals like Baard Kolstad and Fredrik Nordstrøm added finesse to their sound.
Live performances feature a talented roster, enhancing the experience. PARACRONA’s album release concert at Cosmopolite Scene in Oslo, featuring Blood Red Throne and Omnia Moritur, epitomized dedication to an unforgettable scene experience.

Since their creation, Necrowretch haveproudlycarried the mark of the beast. A decade ago, these devil worshippers emerged alongside the old school death metal revival. But their new album casts the French band in a bigger, blacker and more Satanic mold.
“Any move toward what’s considered true black metal is a good thing and Necrowretch stride with furious momentum in that particular direction”, writes Black Metal Terror. “These are the fabled days of world end and I can think of no finer record to track the sound of it all than Swords of Dajjal”.
Swords of Dajjal is out now. To celebrate the mass fanfare that has greeted their latest offering, today, Necrowretch are releasing a new video for one of the album’s deeper cuts.
Watch the raw and ruthless video for “Vae Victis”:
While forged with newfound mysticism, Swords of Dajjal was drawn from real life experience. Living in Turkey during the tail end of the last decade inspired Necrowretch’s lead swordsmith Vlad to create their new album in the splitting image of the Antichrist. Each song warns of a harrowing prophecy brought down by Dajjal, who reigns fire over “Vae Victis”.
“Woe to the vanquish!” snaps Vlad, brandishing his pale but bloodied fangs.
Indeed, “Vae Victis” is pure savagery. The blast beats waste no time, galloping ahead like the horsemen of the apocalypse through a sandstorm. But Necrowretch can slice and dice from all angles. Walls of trembling, melodic distortion close in, only for the band to sneak up and crush you with a headbanging riff that swings with all the brute force of a scepter.
“Malheur aux vaincus!” Vlad says in greetings of his band’s new single. “History testifies that only the strongest survive and that prophetic wisdom still continues in the world we are living in. ‘Vae Victis’ is based on the story of the sack of Rome in 390 BC, where the Gauls defeated the Romans and imposed their conditions on the vanquished. In torment and disgrace, only the ruthless man, the survivor, can become a king. In chaos and torment, only the lawless man, the compeller, can become the bestower of Life and Death”.
The video for “Vae Victis” was filmed in Paris. It was edited and directed by Mounir Chraibi.

Now entering their fifteenth year as a band, France’s Necrowretch are about to open the most ambitious chapter of their career with Swords Of Dajjal, their three-years-in-the-making fifth album.
Initially the sole work of multi-instrument and vision leader Vlad, the band was – for better and for worse – lumped in the ‘old school death metal revival’ of the early 10’s. Yet while their debut Putrid Death Sorcery did indeed bear all the usual suspects of said genre, it nevertheless already had that extra, raw-as-fuck and just plain vicious element that really set them apart from the rest of the pack. Conforming to the norm was never in question and instead of selling out or trying to slow things down, as true misfits as they are, they went the exact opposite direction, first with 2015’s With Serpents Scourge, only to be vigorously confirmed by its furious follow-up, and their first for Season Of Mist, 2017’s Satanic Slavery. To the point where once the touring cycle was over for the latter, Vlad himself felt he had explored this direction as far as he could have and that changes were on the horizon.
“On Satanic Slavery we on purpose took things as far as we could, as our goal was to deliver the most bestial album possible. But once we achieved that goal, I knew we had to take a slightly different if still as uncompromised direction.” Incidentally, that’s when Wenceslas Carrieu from Cadaveric FUMES entered the picture, first as a momentary live session on bass. But when second stringer Kev Desecrator vowed to amicably part way with the band to focus on DESTRÖYER 666, he switched to six-strings and proved to be the valuable songwriting partner Vlad had been looking for since the departure of the band original bass player Amphycion in 2015. “He immediately came up with lots of ideas and thanks to him, we now have a whole new dynamic: a bit like Sepultura had back in the days in between Max Cavalera and Andreas Kisser, with me focusing now on my vocals and playing rhythm guitars while Wenceslas takes care of all the solos, the starting riffs and the off-the-map bits.
With their fourth album, and first with Wencelas, The Ones From Hell was only one month old when Necrowretch was about to tour Europe with both Kampfar and Taake for three weeks. A tour bus was booked, the set was well-rehearsed, everything was ready and then… disaster struck. “Six days before we were due to play our first show, the whole thing was cancelled. Then COVID hit us and the world was basically shut down. We were numb for a couple of days but soon realized that the best way to bounce back was to move forward so we instantly started working on new songs.” The result is Swords Of Dajjal by far, their biggest, boldest and most ambitious production ever.
“We spent no less than three years working on the songs, demoeing them and fine-tuning the details and rehearsing them as a three-piece and six weeks in the studio with Francis Caste (Hangman’s Chair, REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER, Svart Crown etc.). Prior to that, we used to be a pure product of the underground, with albums done in just a couple of days whom were never 100% satisfied with in the end as we had to rush everything. We’re still very underground, mind you. But this time around, we knew we had to give it all, no matter what. So we started by changing our gear, our sound and our tuning. And once we entered the studio, we for instance spent a whole day just testing different amps just to get the right sound and crunch we were looking for. I even took some singing lessons to gain more depth and power. In a way, it almost feels like a whole new band.”
The whole record was written on purpose mostly on acoustic twelve-string guitars (“the idea was that if it sounds good and catchy that way, it’d be even better with distortion”) and as a three-piece, “something we hadn’t done in a long time” with their new drummer Nicolas Ferrero, not exactly a newcomer as he’s been playing on and off live with them since 2018. The result is, according to Vlad, “our most black metal record, with splashes of death metal here and there. Whereas on the previous album all tempos were pushed to the extreme, there’s far more variety here to be found. It also gave us free reins to reach a more mystical, Biblical if you will vibe” fed by his experience living in Turkey in the late 10’s. “We choose to focus on the Dajjal character, basically the antichrist in the Muslim religion. The Coran says that he’ll appear as a false prophet only to bring doom to this world, with an army of demons coming from the east.” Represented on the cover of the album with his double edged sword and bathed in the same kind of reddish and orangey mesmerizing lights one can experience when the sun sets on wind-beaten deserts, all eight songs on the album are prophecies, past and future, where Dajjal plays the leading role.
Now completed on bass by R. Cadaver (former Cadaveric Fumes vocalist) who officially joined once the recording was done after playing as a live session member for the last two years, and armed with their biggest, most complex and intense album of their career, Necrowretch are about to yield their sword of destruction and exterminate everything in sight.
