PESTILENGTH Stream New “Solar Clorex” Album, Out Now

Emerging from the fertile Spanish extreme music scene, corrosive Death Metal duo PESTILENGTH have been a distinctive presence since they formed in 2018. The band’s third opus, “Solar Clorex,” is a subterranean listening experience of deep, dark and devastating grandeur. The album is now officially available and can be streamed across all digital platforms.

Discover it below:

Mastermind M. describes “Solar Clorex” and its artistic concept:

“We are guided by certain rituals or perspectives on how to craft such an album. “Basom Gryphos” was monstruous yet tamed at times. “Solar Clorex” shows different behaviors but they entangle vividly. We are not an easy listening band. We, ourselves, are also listeners and we focus on albums we like concerning their expressions and utterance. I personally always look at the global frame of the album, it’s totality. In this way, an album makes sense. You could isolate songs but that does not work with my comprehension of Art, craft, and effort.“

The metal press has awarded “Solar Clorex” with praise:

““Solar Clorex” takes chances […]. Any time a band writes an album that makes you think it is haunted by chaos then you know they are onto something great.” (Ghost Cult Mag)

““Solar Clorex” is an oppressive monster of grim ugliness. Its atmospheric brutality is matched only by its murderous delivery, scouring the listener with caustic daemonic sounds and feelings.” (Wonderboxmetal)

“[…] yield to the mind-flaying “corrosive Death Metal” swinging lower than a boss-eyed pugilist.” (Invisible Oranges)

“It’s energetic, thunderously heavy, and maddeningly caustic, with more brutal and human elements adding to the fray.” (Angry Metal Guy)

“Solar Clorex” is released via CD, vinyl and digital formats – alongside merchandising – via Debemur Morti Productions. Orders are possible via the label’s EU, US (no merch) and Bandcamp shops.

In early 2018 the anonymous duo PESTILENGTH emerged from the Basque Country with a twisted, contemporary-yet-classic style of extremity which they called ‘corrosive Death Metal’.

After a well-received series of demos and singles, in 2020 the band released first full-length, “Eilatik”, described by No Clean Singing webzine as: “…absolutely vicious at all times. It rips and tears in a frenzy, and pounds without mercy or remorse.”

By the end of 2020, the band had received worldwide attention among labels, blogs, and musicians. Additional EP “Apore Flesh” was enthusiastically praised by LEVIATHAN’s Jef Whitehead for reaching “… far beyond the world of copycats of the ‘underground'” in “khaotick shards of thought-provoking metalz of dementia”. A split with Mexican band REVERENCE TO PAROXYSM had followed soon afterwards the same year.

In August 2021, PESTILENGTH’s monstrous sophomore album “Basom Gryphos” was unleashed to widespread critical acclaim. The album contained eight new songs whose cerebral slithering brutality was mirrored in the striking cover art by Namurian Visions.

In 2023 the band inked a deal with Debemur Morti Productions for the release of their new next-level third album “Solar Clorex”.

HIGH ON FIRE Announce New Album “Cometh the Storm”, Reveal Lead Single + Video ‘Burning Down’

Iconic U.S. rock band High on Fire will release their new full-length Cometh the Storm on the 19th of April via MNRK Heavy. The lead track, ‘Burning Down’, which comes in the form of a haunting, fever dream video, is now available.

Pre-order/save High on Fire‘s Cometh the Storm here

“’Burning Down’ kicks off with a classic Pike riff,” says Jeff Matz. “I think this song harkens back to the early High on Fire sound, but infused with fresh, new elements. It has a killer groove that you can really sink into. The body of the song took shape in our PNW rehearsal space, and we came up with the bridge/solo section and finalized the arrangement while we were at GodCity. Kurt Ballou’s input as a producer was also hugely helpful. His keen ears and fresh perspective were invaluable in making this album.”

The GRAMMY Award-winning group, celebrating their 25th anniversary, recorded Cometh the Storm at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou. The 11-song effort – the band’s ninth studio album – marks the release of the first new High on Fire music since 2018’s Electric Messiah and the first to feature drummer Coady Willis (Big Business, Murder City Devils), alongside bassist Jeff Matz, and guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike.

It has been more than five years since the band’s revered Electric Messiah earned High on Fire ‘Best Metal Performance’ at the 2018 GRAMMY Awards, placing the unit among the ranks of groups such as Black Sabbath, Motörhead, and Metallica as winners of the prestigious award. “Being nominated for a Grammy was pretty mind blowing, but winning one was truly surreal,” says bassist Jeff Matz. “A Grammy win was certainly not something we were aiming for, but it’s quite an honor to be recognized in that way, and we are grateful. In terms of how it’s affected us, it has definitely opened some new doors—we’ve gained some new fans and wider recognition, but it hasn’t changed how we approach our craft. We’ve always tried to create uncompromising music that feels good to us, and is in line with what we would want to listen to.”

Track-list:
1. Lambsbread (5:45)
2. Burning Down (6:13) [WATCH]
3. Trismegistus (5:36)
4. Cometh The Storm (6:12)
5. Karanlık Yol (3:46)
6. Sol’s Golden Curse (4:52)
7. The Beating (2:29)
8. Tough Guy (3:44)
9. Lightning Beard (3:33)
10. Hunting Shadows (5:40)
11. Darker Fleece (9:59)

In the half decade since the band’s Grammy nod, the world has seismically shifted and is a different place. The same can be said for High on Fire. The band’s musical archetype has been modded, morphed, and evolved; its blast radius widened. Bassist Jeff Matz joined Mutoid Man and traveled abroad to study and learn the techniques of Middle Eastern folk music and the plucked string instrument, the bağlama (or saz), Matt Pike formed a solo band, released an LP, and toured the U.S., and world-renowned percussionist, Coady Willis, he of Melvins, Big Business, and Murder City Devils united with Pike and Matz to breathe new life into the group a quarter century into their captivating career.

The lead track on High on Fire’s new album, Cometh the Storm, is the invigorating ‘Burning Down’, a vigorous barrage which exemplifies the prowess the unification of the three professional musicians owns.

Universally recognized as one of the most potent acts in music today, High on Fire creates dynamic metal that merges primal fury and aggression, hesher bombast and hall of fame heaviness. Described as “a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume,” High on Fire has rewritten the hard rock rule book since their formation in 1998, forging a style and sound that is both critically celebrated and unique. The group features vocalist and cult guitar hero Matt Pike (also a founding member of the famed underground band SLEEP) singular bassist Jeff Matz, and powerhouse drummer Coady Willis.

HOKO Release New Single ‘Back Into Your Heart’, Announce Headline New York & Los Angeles Shows

One of the hottest alternative bands out of New York HOKO returns with a bright and buoyant new single entitled “Back Into Your Heart” out now via EQT Recordings/Republic Records. Listen to “Back Into Your Heart” HERE.

The track layers neon synths over a danceable guitar groove. As keys shimmer, an instantly chantable chorus rings out, “When will I ever find my way back into your heart?” A surge of energy culminates on a hummable and hypnotic solo. Right out of the gate, it immediately transfixes, highlighting HOKO’s uncanny knack for a hook.

On the new music the band said: “‘Back Into Your Heart’ is a song reminiscing on a distant past, wondering how things may have been different, had we acted differently. Setting – NY, NY. Experience – life changing.”

Stay tuned for the premiere of a cinematic music video to accompany the track.

Next up, HOKO will headline intimate shows on both coasts. They perform at Mercury Lounge in New York, NY on February 19 and 28th and at Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles, CA on March 5th.

Get tickets HERE.

They capped off 2023 with “Higher.” Beyond plugs from East Portland Blog and more, it has begun to gain traction on streaming platforms.

It followed on the heels of “Ephemera.” Of the latter, Melodic Magazine raved, “The chorus is an immediate sing-a-long and “Ephemera” will surely be a fixture in anyone’s “Moving On” mixtape,” and Kings of A&R  praised, “HOKO creates a unique style that mixes alternative and experimental pop music. Their music has elements of psychedelia and rock.”  Pop Passion proclaimed, “It’s a much more upbeat and fun take on a breakup song—so much so that you can’t help but bob your head and sing along to its excellent lyrics.” Not to mention, CBS’ “Music Minute” notably featured the band too!

The band has consistently unveiled critically acclaimed tracks. Of “Pretender,” MUD Magazine praised, “The song, written in collaboration with renowned musicians Mikey Shoes (Queens of the Stone Age) and Zackary Dawes (Lana Del Rey, Last Shadow Puppets), showcases HOKO’s unique sound and their ability to craft captivating melodies.”

Excitement continues to grow for more from the band…

The group has quietly emerged as an outlier presence with its enticing and entrancing hybrid of danceable grooves, artful instrumentation, and universally powerful pop hooks. They have generated over 50 million cumulative streams and dropped their independent debut Heathen EP in 2021. At the same time, they’ve also packed houses coast-to-coast on tour.

Be on the lookout for more.

Like a wild flickering image projected in widescreen, HOKO stretch alternative into 360-degree pop. The New York band—Nathaniel Hoho [vocals] and Jesse Kotansky [guitar]—invite immersion into layers of rich soundscape architecture and hypnotically hummable hooks. Painting in broad strokes of psychedelia and rock, they unearth an uncategorizable and undeniable sound equally malleable and magnificent in its execution. Making a choice to pursue his passion full-time, Central Pennsylvania native Nathaniel honed his chops on the streets, traveling from one college and beach to another, busking to survive, and sleeping in the car. Eventually, he settled in Brooklyn where he first crossed paths with Jesse at a barbecue. A world-class musician, Jesse shined as a Balkan violinist throughout his childhood, traveling to Turkey at six-years-old to perform and, eventually, playing with a myriad of artists. Inspired by David Bowie, Queen, The Smashing Pumpkins, Tame Impala, The Strokes, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys, the pair hit it off and “started experimenting with new sounds in a pop space.” The guys caught the attention of EQT and signed in 2020 as “OK OK” impacted radio and reeled in over 4.9 million Spotify streams, paving the way for their independent EP Heathen. Highlighted by fan favorites “Candy Eyes” and “Hellogoodbye” (which fellow alternative maverick PVRIS officially remixed), the band continued to gain traction in between performing with X Ambassadors and more. Generating streams in the tens of millions, this vision comes into focus like never before on a series of 2023 singles for EQT Recordings/Republic Records introduced by “Hazy.”

Norwegian duo Lindy – Fay Hella (Wardruna) & Dei Farne are spellbinding the globe with their new musical masterpiece: “Low Water”. The visualiser, created by Ingo Spörl, is a remarkable visual representation of the song. It is a song about the strength of the tide, the power of the moon and the dark skies it can carry.

Listen to “Low Water” HERE.

Lindy – Fay comments on the new single:
“Low water, is in a way about the fascination of low tide, high tide and how the moon and the waters are interacting. But also, how things are revealed when the water recedes. Things you did not know were there, are suddenly up in the open. It is fascinating and sometimes scary at the same time. When I recorded this song, I “saw” a full moon, dark skies and a beach. Mysterious place.”

The track is taken from the new full – length ‘Islet’ which will be released via By Norse on March 8, 2024. The beautiful auditory experience was created during the pandemic, from which the musicians merged with an album that paints a vivid musical canvas of our collective journey through unprecedented times.

About Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne

The Norwegian collective Lindy-Fay Hella (Wardruna) & Dei Farne is releasing their second full album “Islet” via By Norse on the 22nd of March, 2024. The beautiful auditory experience is the next in line of many successful releases, such as her 2nd album “Hildring” in 2021 and “Seafarer” was released by Lindy-Fay Hella solo in 2019.

The music for this album was mostly written during the Corona times. Roy Ole and Lindy-Fay were sitting in their homes, isolated like most people were at the time, just sending ideas to each other which eventually turned out to be a whole album. They noticed that the sound of it all had a kind of loneliness and coldness to it that they wanted to keep.

They emerged with an album that paints a vivid musical canvas of our collective journey through unprecedented times. As the world stood still, she found solace in crafting melodies that encapsulate the emotions of isolation.

No lyrics were written at that point, so in the beginning of 2023, Lindy-Fay went to Portugal, a country which she never visited before, to get inspiration for words. She  spent the days walking around, just looking at things and to see what happened. She discovered an Islet that totally mesmerised her which has been a symbol for her; A magical place of its own, within the endless ocean. A solid place in the Sea of loneliness.

The beauty of “Islet” lies in the exchange of musical ideas during this unique period. Collaborating remotely, we discovered a novel way of working that felt strangely fitting for the times – a fusion of vulnerability and innovation. Vocals, synths, and programming became our pillars, forming the backbone of a sound that is both intimate and expansive.

Lindy-Fay’s sonic exploration led her to Solslottet studio, where Iver Sandøy worked tirelessly alongside her, contributing not just to production but becoming an integral part of their creative journey. Sondre Veland’s distinctive drumming and energy, coupled with the unexpected insights of Jørgen Træen, added layers of complexity and emotion to the tracks.

Jørgen Træen, an expert in the alternative music scene since the ’90s, offered a fresh perspective with ideas that pushed boundaries. The result is an album that features vocals pushed to uncomfortable closeness, eerie synths, and programming that defies convention.

Beyond the studio, Lindy-Fay ventured into Jan Tore Ness’s space, capturing the essence of unique instruments like the old harmonium.

The album’s sound and atmosphere encapsulates the magic of solitary creation during the lonely and dark period, followed by a harmonious reunion with musical collaborators.

“Islet” is not just an auditory experience; it’s a testament to the resilience of creativity in challenging times. “Don’t do anything you don’t want to do, just because someone tells you to”. Join Lindy in sharing this human experience that is “Islet”.

Surviving Thundermother – THE GEMS: “Phoenix Debut Album Is Us Working Through The Grief”

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed Ex-Thundermother now The Gems’ vocalist Guernica Mancini and drummer Emlee Johansson about the bands new studio album ‘Phoenix’. which is out now Jan 26, 2024 via Napalm Records

In the chat the ladies discuss their emotional rollercoaster after parting ways with the band Thundermother which inspired the making of the LP.

When asked about the themes on the debut album ‘Phoenix’
“There’s a lot of things that we had to get off our chest and the whole album is us basically working through the grief. So there’s some angry songs, there’s some frustration, there’s sadness and in that mix it’s still empowering and hopeful. If you listen to the album from beginning to end you get to hear basically everything, all the emotions that we went through when this happened (parting ways with Thundermother) to us. Guernica Mancini

“I mean we tried to think of other themes but on the other hand this is what we feel right now and that’s the best outcome with lyrics to a song you know when you actually write something real and it was really therapeutic to put down our feelings in words. It’s been helpful for us in many ways and also I think I mean this debut album is a statement like we’re not going to give up basically, we’re going to rise up again no matter what.” Emlee Johansson ‘

When asked if Guernica had any regrets from over-expressing her feelings in public after she was dismissed from Thundermother
“No I don’t regret anything. I feel like we are on a truth journey that’s this (Phoenix) album. We’re being honest and we’re sick of hiding what’s actually going on because of other circumstances or other people. I’m just sick of it, completely over not being truthful and we’re all very truthful honest people. That’s how we are as humans. So it’s nice to just be yourself freely and unfiltered.” Guernica Mancini

When asked if they see themselves having a relationship or conversation with current Thundermother band, if they bumped into each other at a festival or show.
“I think we will definitely avoid each other. We are honest people and I could never wish her well, unfortunately because she has hurt me very much, so I can’t. I’m sorry I can’t. Emlee Johansson

“I would probably just avoid her and I think maybe all of us would yeah I hate those kinds of confrontations. I would rather hide in the bushes or something like that. I would never want to see her. To be completely honest the new (Thundermother) lineup I don’t know two of the girls, so I have no hard feelings towards them whatsoever So eventually I’m kind of hoping to get to talk to them because we are trying to build a nice community of female musicians who are actually supporting each other and being there for each other. Like I’ve said in a lot of interviews we’re here when you know shit is going to hit the fan, eventually. We are here waiting for them with open arms and ready to be that support that you will need eventually. ” Guernica Mancini

When asked Emlee Johansson how she had the courage to quit Thundermother when Guernica was let go
“Guernica was in the band and we had we always had each others back when things were tough. We were always happy on stage and I loved every show we played. Guernica was also really helpful to have as a real friend on tour that you could always l text or whatever. We were a band, we were a democracy, that’s the way we worked in Thundermother and we split up the hard work and we did everything together. So for somebody in the band to just all of a sudden start making their own decisions that wasn’t for me at all. I could never imagine myself being in that band without Guernica and also the worst thing ever business-wise (decision) to fire the singer who had the voice that made our sound was not good. ” Emlee Johansson

When asked about their thoughts on the songs, on the new album
“We have made an effort to put the songs in a specific order so we take the listener on a journey. We are all over the place with influences, from the 70s and the 80s rock but somehow it’s a red line through the whole album because of the theme that goes through like you’re going through hard times and you still like rise up again and you never give up. We’re really proud of that.”- Emlee Johansson

“I think it’s empowering/ We know what inspired the songs on our part but we really made an effort to make them open enough for anyone to relate to.” – Guernica Mancini

THE GEMS on Phoenix:

“Phoenix marks the beginning, the rise of THE GEMS. This album takes you on a journey through one of our toughest times. Through this creative process we were able to really dig deep and let go of a lot of emotional baggage, and find true happiness in music again. The new found freedom our band has been given us shines through on this album. We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished, and the true Rock n Roll Sisterhood and community we’ve built through these few months of our existence. Phoenix is the perfect album for anyone going through a tough time, having the rug pulled out under you and somehow finding the strength to rebuild. You’ll get the full range of emotions, masterfully produced by our dear friend Johan Randén, who we also wrote some of the songs with. We hope people will love Phoenix and really enjoy the epic ride this album will take you on.”

THE GEMS are:
Guernica Mancini – Vocals
Emlee Johansson – Drums
Mona “Demona” Lindgren – Guitar, Bass
