WAIDELOTTE Reveal First Single + Video ‘The Era Of Stagnant Gods’ from Upcoming Album

Ukrainian Progressive Extreme Metal ensemble WAIDELOTTE (ft. members of WHITE WARD and SOEN) unveil the first offering from their upcoming album, “Celestial Shrine,” titled ‘The Era Of Stagnant Gods.’ The track masterfully interweaves aggressive, high-energy sections with progressive and melodic touches. In its final act the song crescendos in a fusion of intense screams, eerie female vocals, truly captivating Folk influences and the powerful dynamics of Extreme Metal.

Discover ‘The Era Of Stagnant Gods‘ through the video presentation below or via Bandcamp:

Due for release March 29th, WAIDELOTTE‘s debut album “Celestial Shrine” will be available on CD, vinyl and digital formats. The launch is accompanied by a specially designed t-shirt, with pre-orders available through our EU, US (no merch) and Bandcamp shops.

“Celestial Shrine” narrates a journey of catharsis (details here). It follows a fictional character undergoing rebirth, culminating ultimately in enlightenment. ‘The Era Of Stagnant Gods‘ explores a specific chapter of this odyssey, as described by the band’s composer and guitarist, Zlat:

“It is the starting point of our character’s ‘depression’ phase, the beginning of his fall. That’s why the music here is heavy and fast at the same time. Falling down is not something that can be extended in time. It’s something that happens rapidly and keeps you inside the whirlpool. Black/Death metal riffs attack with anger and fury to then be replaced with more melodic parts that contain ethnic elements and represent despair and apathy. This is how we interpret the feeling of “falling down”: you constantly switch between anger and apathy until the final crash enters the game. In the song, the final burst of anger is replaced by a coda with powerful ethnic singing. It’s like a mockery of those who have fallen: it’s not the end – get ready for worse things. As a part of the story, the song sheds light on a person who gives up, surrounded by nonentities who offer up faceless despicable prayers to the stagnant Gods and idols of our era.“

Vocalist Andrii adds:

“The lyrical hero is disappointed in himself and the world in which he lives. Stagnation is what surrounds him and annoys him. To some extent, we can talk here about the period political scientist Fukuyama called ‘the end of history.’ But in the context of the song, this is such an individual interpretation of this stage on a much smaller scale. In the song, as in the album, we explore nothing but the individual downfall and subsequent rise of the main character. Disappointment, fatigue, despair, fear, and many other factors are the baggage with which the lyrical hero goes on a journey to catharsis. But at this stage, he is not aware of the ultimate goal. So far, he has only one path – down to the bottom, where he expects to lose himself and get rid of those burdens that make life unbearable.“

WAIDELOTTE is a new Extreme Metal act from Ukraine which skilfully combines Black Metal, melodic Death Metal and Progressive Metal with traditional Folk singing and instrumentation. The project gathers individuals with diverse musical backgrounds, including members of SOEN, WHITE WARD, NAONI ORCHESTRA, Тінь Сонця, SOLAR KOLLAPSE, and CASA URAINA amongst others.

The band’s debut album will be released via Debemur Morti Productions in 2024.

After broadcasting three snippets of their latest album, Darkspace are now ready to unveil their new album. Darkspace -II is one big, continuously crushing,  47-minute journey into the blackest holes of the universe. It’s the mysterious trio’s fifth full-length and first album with newest member Yhs (bass, vocals).

Dark Space -II is out today Friday, February 16. Stream and watch the entire album over on Season of Mist’s YouTube channel. The full album stream is illustrated by a vast, bleak and crawling animation that was created by illustrator Michael Raaflaub & animator Simon Schnellmann.

On “Dark -2.-2”, Darkspace defy the conventional boundaries of black metal. Fractal electronic samples slice through layers of extraterrestrial drones. Glitchy murmurs – like whispers from the outer reaches – are swallowed deep inside the band’s vast, unknown aura.

Season of Mist reissued all of Darkspace’s catalogue on CD and vinyl this year. Listen from Dark Space -I to Dark Space III I and hear how their hypnotic and otherworldly sound has influenced modern black metal.

DRAGONFORCE Cover Taylor Swift with ‘Wildest Dreams’ Video

DRAGONFORCE has unveiled an official video for their excellent Taylor Swift cover, “Wildest Dreams (DragonForce’s Version)”, which is included as a bonus track on select editions of their anxiously anticipated upcoming album, Warp Speed Warriors, out on March 15, 2024 via Napalm Records! The Grammy-nominated unit has transformed the current reigning pop superstar’s huge hit into a lightning-fast power metal anthem, featuring incredible guitar solos and sky-high vocals. DRAGONFORCE’s version first caused a wave of buzz in the press and on social media after the band performed it live on their most recent North American tour.

Founded in 1999 by virtuoso guitarists Herman Li (also known for his Twitch channel with 270k followers) and Sam Totman, the new masterpiece Warp Speed Warriors sees DRAGONFORCE experimenting with different genres more than ever before, while staying true to their power metal roots. DRAGONFORCE will kick off their European co-headline tour with Amaranthe in Hamburg next week, with label mates INFECTED RAIN supporting as special guests – so make sure to grab your tickets now and get a taste of what’s to come from the explosive video below!

Herman Li on Warp Speed Warriors:
“After four years of creative incubation, we are beyond excited to release what we believe to be our most ambitious and grandiose record yet. This album showcases multiple facets of our artistic abilities, and we invite metal aficionados from every corner of the genre to discover something captivating within its layers. We can’t wait to share this chapter of our musical journey with you, it’s going to be EPIC!”

Following the opening track “Astro Warrior Anthem”, the Zelda inspired track “Power of the Triforce” keeps the volume high before DRAGONFORCE temporarily slows it down for the ballad ”Kingdom of Steel”. Rapid drum patterns and thrilling guitars carry the catchy “Burning Heart”, while chanting “Space Marine Corp” features a strong and uplifting chorus. Electronic influences on grandiose power metal anthem “The Killer Queen” hypnotize, as singer Marc Hudson’s vocals reach for the skies. The last original track on Warp Speed Warriors, “Pixel Prison”, is followed by DRAGONFORCE’s unexpected yet brilliant cover of Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” as a bonus track that wraps up the epic adventure as a bonus track on some formats.

Warp Speed Warriors was produced, mixed and mastered by Damien Rainaud at Mix Unlimited in Los Angeles, California with Sam Totman and Herman Li. This album is a matchless, innovative listening experience that continues the band’s legacy with songs that will, without a shadow of a doubt, become instant classics in and beyond the DRAGONFORCE canon.

KORPIKLAANI Release Second Single + Video ‘Aita’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 15, 2024
Posted in: Int. News. Tagged: Korpiklaani. Leave a comment

Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI are happy to unleash ‘Aita‘, the second single from their upcoming new studio album, Rankarumpu, which is due to be released on April 5th, 2024.

‘Aita‘ keeps up the full-speed ahead approach from the previous single, ‘Saunaan‘. The dizzying pace, a catchy chorus and a masterful violin/accordion duel make ‘Aita‘ an absolutely irresistible tune that bears all trademarks the Finns are universally known and loved for. Folk metal at its best!

Composer Olli Vänskä commented:
“‘Aita’ was actually composed as an instrumental track, or that was at least the intention. I sent a demo version to Jonne and when I was asking about it a week later, he told me “hell no!” and gave me the lyrics he wrote. And good lyrics, too! I’m very satisfied about the violin riff and how the folk interlude turned out as well. Lots of interesting stuff happening there!“

Front man Jonne Järvelä added:
“I got a very cool demo song from Olli to which I riffed with a guitar. Then a theme started to form in my head that I transformed into a song which was easy to write words to.
In the lyrics, the main person meets an old familiar village man who has been on the road as journey man for a long time and returns to his home village. The man asks his friend all sorts of questions about what he has seen around the world, but the journey man only answers vaguely, but with wise lessons.“

Prog Legends WHITE WILLOW Reveal Second Album “Ex Tenebris” Details from Back Catalogue

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 15, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: WHITE WILLOW. Leave a comment

Following its plan to release a total of six albums from the back catalogue of WHITE WILLOW, Karisma Records have announced that the 12th April will see the second album from the Norwegian Prog Legends hit the streets.

First released in 1997 “Ex Tenebris” followed the release band’s first album “Ignis Fatuus” which had been recorded by the by-now disbanded original lineup of WHITE WILLOW.  As such, Jacob Holm-Lupo intended it to be a solo album, but, realising that it was heading in a more progressive direction than originally anticipated, “Ex Tenebris” became a full-blown White Willow production.

With only a shoestring budget at the band’s disposal, the recording itself was, by necessity, quick and dirty, but nevertheless there was a certain charm to the natural drum ambience and the overall “first takes only” feel to the album.

Overall, “Ex Tenebris” ended up being a more stripped-down, somewhat darker album than its predecessor, with more electric guitars and synths and a marked absence of krumhorns or renaissance vocal groups. In fact, the album has become a bit of a cult favourite with the band’s fans, and signposted WHITE WILLOWS’S first step towards something more original than the retro-styled psych-folk of “Ignis Fatuus”.

The songs themselves range from almost neo-progish mini-epics like “Leaving the House of Thanatos””, to the acoustic balladry of “The Book of Love” and “Thirteen Days”,  and the more overtly gothic sound of ” A Strange Procession” and “A Dance of Shadows”.

For its re-release “Ex Tenebris” has undergone meticulous remastering by WHITE WILLOW’s  own Jacob Holm-Lupo  and is available for first time on vinyl. Complete with the original classic cover art “Ex Tenebris” will be available in CD, Digital and Limited Edition Double LP in transparent blue vinyl.

Tracklisting,  for “Ex Tenebris”, which has a slight variation in the track order of the CD and LP versions,  is as follows:

CD TRACKLIST:                                                         LP TRACKLIST:

  1. Leaving the House of Thanatos                      01. Leaving the House of Thanatos
  2. The Book of Love                                            02. The Book of Love
  3. Soteriology                                                      03. Helen and Simon Magus
  4. Helen and Simon Magus                                 04. Thirteen Days
  5. Thirteen Days                                                  05. Soteriology
  6. A Strange Procession                                      06. A Strange Procession
  7. A Dance of Shadows                                       07. A Dance of Shadows

“Ex Tenebris” is now available to pre-order from:

Webshop: karismarecords.no/shop/
Bandcamp: whitewillow.bandcamp.com
US Webshop: karismarecords.indiemerch.com

WHITE WILLOW was formed in 1992 by guitarist Jacob Holm-Lupo, who at that time was a member of the POLICE/BRUCE HORNSBY-inspired pop band THE ORCHID GARDEN, and keyboard player Jan Tariq Rahman from local jazz-rock/prog rock band DUGGVÅTE DVE.

It was a case of two musicians coming together see if they had any kind of songwriting chemistry, and, whilst sitting on the floor playing acoustic guitar and clavinet, produced the track “Snowfall” which convinced them that they could, indeed, come up with something worthwhile.

WHITE WILLOW’s history, however, was never simple, with members having come and gone over the years  and only Holm-Lupo having remained with the band since its inception, whilst WOBBLERS Lars Fredrik Frøislie has been a mainstay since 2001.

The band’s  sound too has undergone changes, but it’s safe to say that it is frequently centered around female vocals and an expanded instrumentation that usually includes a host of analogue synthesizers, mellotron, woodwinds and strings, in addition, of course to traditional rock instrumentation.

Now, exclusively a studio project, WHITE WILLOW is noted for featuring guest appearances from prominent musicians such as  Norway’s guitar hero Hedvig Mollestad, or internationally renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer.

By the time the re-release project is finished, Karisma Records will have released all six of the following albums:

Ignis Fatuus – 1995 (released Nov 2023)
Ex Tenebris – 1997  (due for release April 2024)
Sacrament – 2000
Storm Season – 2004
Signal to Noise – 2006
Terminal Twilight – 2011

LEATHER LUNG Release New Single ‘Guilty Pleasure’ from Upcoming Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 15, 2024

LEATHER LUNG turn loose a vicious groove monster in the shape of the third single ‘Guilty Pleasure’ taken from their forthcoming album “Graveside Grin”. The Boston, Massachusetts quintet’s debut full-length is chalked up for release on March 15, 2024 via Magnetic Eye Records. The pre-sale is available at http://lnk.spkr.media/graveside-grin

LEATHER LUNG comment: “Love may be the answer, but it doesn’t always make it fun, singer Mike muses. “Sometimes doing the wrong thing feels right. ‘Guilty Pleasure’ is a song about that little voice inside you saying ‘fuck it’. Don’t succumb to fear, become something scarier.”

Let’s get this party started! The incorrigible headbangers in LEATHER LUNG have heard the pleas of their enthusiastic following to bring forth a new album of substance-fueled boogie metal, and have obliged at last with the raucous new full-length “Graveyard Grin”. The proper debut album from the New England five-piece has everything promised by their previous EP releases: a thick, chugging concoction of stoner metal, doom, and unrelenting sludge, blended into a refreshingly heavy brew with a catchy kick.

LEATHER LUNG are a wild bunch that know the meaning of fun. This is hardly surprising as the band sprang into existence out of friendship and the punk and hardcore scene of Boston in 2012. Starting as a four-piece, they quickly gained an excellent reputation in their local scene, as well as plenty of critical attention through a string of EPs, starting with “Reap What You Sow” (2014) and followed in regular intervals by “Lost in Temptation” (2016), “Lonesome, On’ry and Evil” (2019), and “Dive Bar Devil” (2022).

‘Dive Bar Devil’ is also the name of LEATHER LUNG‘s own brand of lager beer, which has already sold out and been re-brewed multiple times. One may speculate that this is the liquid coming out off the can that the band’s Green Lady mascot of each of their record covers opens forcefully in the artwork of “Graveside Grin”.

Now a five-piece with the addition of a second guitarist, LEATHER LUNG are ready to take on the world. Following crushing live appearances at DesertFest New York and Psycho Las Vegas, the band return with “Graveside Grin”, a massive sign that these freaks from Boston are ready for the road and amped to get the global party going.

  1. Spit in the Casket
  2. Big Bad Bodega Cat
