Norway’s VICINITY kicks off their upcoming album promotion round with the release of the first digital single and video from the record. The track is called “Purpose”. A progressive metal tune that showcases the technical sides of Vicinity, while maintaining their affinity for strong melodies and relatable lyrical themes. This is also the first song to be released with new vocalist Erling Malm. Fans of bands like Threshold, Circus Maximus and Dream Theater should really check this one out.

Join the premiering here:

Vicinity was founded in 2006 by Kim-Marius H. Olsen, Frode Lillevold and Kristian Nergård. Vocalist Alexander K. Lykke soon joined the blend making the first complete lineup. With the EP “Diffusion of Innovation”, the band’s first official release, Vicinity found its true style, writing longer, more technical progressive compositions.

In 2012 the band recorded their debut full-length album, “Awakening”, making this the debut recording of the new bass player Pierre Schmidt-Melbye, who joined the band following Nergård’s departure in 2009. Reidulf Wormdal joined the recording as a session keyboard player. The album was mixed by André Alvinzi and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, and was released by Indie Distribution and Pug-Nose Records in the fall 2013.

In 2015 Vicinity went to work with their new album “Recurrence” which was released by Mighty Music in 2017. The drums were recorded at Skarp Studio, known for producing the drums for bands like Triosphere and Keep of Kalessin. Christer-André Cederberg, known for mixing Nine and Havoc for Circus Maximus and several releases by Anathema was enlisted to mix the album. Jens Bogren once again handled mastering duties. Following the release, Vicinity played concerts in Trondheim and Oslo, and was booked to play festivals like Prøvesprengning and Totsås Rock.

Preparations for the upcoming album started in 2020 at Skansen Lydstudio, but further progress was impaired partly by Covid and the fact that, after 15 years in the band, Lykke decided in 2022 to pursue other interests and in agreement with the band decided to part ways. Vicinity tried out vocalist Erling Malm (Articulus, Endolith) at a live show in Trondheim, and decided then and there that he would be the vocalist going forward, and he immediately started working on vocals for the upcoming record.

A new Vicinity album will be released this year.

Lineup:
Frode Lillevold – drums
Erling Malm – vocals
Ivar A. Nyland – keyboards
Kim-Marius H. Olsen – guitars
Pierre-Nicolai H. Schmidt-Melbye – bass

MINISTRY Release New Single ‘B.D.E.’ About Toxic Misogyny, Violence Against Women

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 25, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Al Jourgensen, MINISTRY. Leave a comment

Toxic misogyny, violence against women, and incels are the latest target Al Jourgensen takes aim at in the song ´B.D.E.´(aka “Big Dick Energy”) out today, including a spellbinding music video that draws the line on the poisonous behavior seen in both politics and everyday life in 2024.

Listen to the song on all platforms: https://ministry.bfan.link/b-d-e

The song’s whiplash riffs, barreling drums, punchy keys, and pummeling bass all come to a head in the thrash breakdown mid-song, putting the aggressive talents of Jourgensen and the full band — John Bechdel (keyboards), Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto (guitars), Roy Mayorga (drums) and Paul D’Amour (bass) — on full display.

Says Jourgensen of the track: “The incel subsect and general misogynistic tendencies in our society are dangerous yet seem to fly under the radar so we figured it’s time to shine a light on it. In true MINISTRY fashion we battle it with sarcasm”

´B.D.E.´ hails from MINISTRY’s upcoming 16th studio album

HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES (out March 1, 2024 on Nuclear Blast Records) and follows the release of earlier singles ´Just Stop Oil´ and ´Goddamn White Trash´ all of which give a preview of the state of mind of creator and band leader Jourgensen who is cantankerous as ever about a f***ed up world ripe for a boot up its ass. Like always, he’s merely looking around at the same dumpster fire we all are, but he’s got a microphone and uses it well to rage on about the state of the world.

Joined by MINISTRY’s current frontline of musicians, HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES also has a slew of special guest contributors including Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz, long-time collaborator and Lard companion Jello Biafra and Corrosion of Conformity frontman Pepper Keenan.

INNER SANCTUM Announce New Album “The Great Odd Ones”; Release Intense First Single ‘Abgott Death Kult’

Freiburg, Germany -based Death Metallers INNER SANCTUM have announced the release of the band’s fourth album “The Great Odd Ones”, which will be out on March 22nd. This concept album delves into the eerie realm of sea gods known as “The Great Odd Ones”, weaving a narrative that explores their terrifying influence on our world.

Since their formation in 2004, INNER SANCTUM has been forging a unique path in the Death Metal scene. Combining dynamic death riffs with heavy and heroic parts, the band has created a characteristic and individual sound and with three independently released full-length albums to date and two decades of live experience, INNER SANCTUM has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

The upcoming output “The Great Odd Ones” pushes the boundaries of the band’s sound, taking a turn towards a more death metal and heavy focus while skillfully retaining the distinctive roots that define their music. Drawing inspiration from non-related personal experiences encountered by the band members and delving into the realms of Lovecraftian horror fiction, this album immerses listeners in a nautical, dark, and cryptic theme.

The album’s first single “Abgott Death Kult” showcases the band’s relentless energy and growth as musicians. With its visceral intensity and haunting melodies, the single sets the stage for the captivating journey that awaits the listener in “The Great Odd Ones”. Furthermore, the brand new track is accompanied by a music video, which you can watch here:

INNER SANCTUM comments: “After 8 long years, we couldn’t be happier to finally present our newest creation, especially because “Abgott Death Kult” is such a personal and special song for us. Not only does it push the limits of the INNER SANCTUM sound to the extreme, but it is also a prime example of how our personal and private experiences can be interpreted creatively to fit the lore we created for “The Great Odd Ones”. The song’s origins were rather experimental in nature, so it came as a surprise, even to us, how it grew to become the flagship of our new musical path. The subtle integration of real-life incidents into a somewhat obscure lyrical theme surely played its part in that. We hope you will enjoy the song as much as we do.“

Tracklist:

  1. Era of the Idols
  2. Abgott Death Kult
  3. Juggernautic
  4. Nautopsy
  5. Mesurol
  6. Thalassophobia
  7. Godfisher
  8. Battlements of Abomination
  9. Those Who Never Sleep

The songwriting for “The Great Odd Ones” took place between 2017 and 2020-2022, with INNER SANCTUM pouring their hearts and souls into crafting an unforgettable musical experience. The album was mixed and mastered by the talented Christoph Brandes at the renowned Iguana Studios and promises a musical journey into the abyss, where the haunting tales of these sea gods unfold with visceral intensity.

“The Great Odd Ones” will be self-released by INNER SANCTUM on March 22. The album is now available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION

GOST Unveils ‘Widow Song’ Single + Lyric Video

Slasherwave outfit GOST today unveils “Widow Song,” the latest single from the project’s impending new full-length, Prophecy, set for release on March 8th via Metal Blade Records.

GOST exists in the dark crack between black metal and the most shadowy end of electronic music. Since the release of the Radio Macabre EP at the start of 2013, and the remorseless digital nightmare of their Skull debut album six months later, Texas-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and main-brain James Lollar has become an increasingly singular force in music. Far more aggressive and sinister than the synthwave he’s often grouped with, GOST is a harsh and unique digital nightmare that takes the listener right into the heart of the abyss.

Now GOST returns with their sixth album, Prophecy. Unquestionably their most exhilarating and dangerous sounding work to date, Prophecy is a record that perfectly reflects the horror and grim anxieties of a world beset with religious and political overreach, and progress, “being rolled back to the fucking 1950s.”

“It’s about an imaginative fall of the Western civilization, the biblical end of the world – the rise of Satan and Armageddon,” says Lollar. “In America, there’s been a big rise of scared, reactive Christianity again, and almost like a re-emergence of the Satanic Panic. So it felt like an appropriate time to bring Satan back into things.”

In advance of the release of Prophecy, GOST today unleashes “Widow Song” with an accompanying lyric video. “‘Widow Song’ is very personal to me on a few levels,” elaborates Lollar. “The title tributes an old close friend who suddenly died years ago. The lyrical content is a direct response to the world of chaos we are all currently having to navigate. Sonically, I wanted to merge my new wave and black metal influences. I pushed my vocal capacity on ‘Widow Song,’ going much lower and higher than I have previously attempted as GOST. The result rests somewhere between Mayhem and Skinny Puppy.“

Watch GOST‘s previously released video for “Judgement/Prophecy” at THIS LOCATION.

Prophecy was recorded by Lollar alone in Texas during a burst of creativity at the end of 2022. Following the experimentation and more melodic touches of 2019’s Valediction, Lollar says the record acts as something of a return to older roots, to recapture the spirit of GOST.

Re-Armed, the melodic death metal outfit announces the release of their new single, ‘Lost and Cast Off’. With relentless energy and an apocalyptic narrative, the Finnish metal act takes listeners on a sonic journey through the depths of despair and mankind’s undying quest for survival – without forgetting visual story telling with lyric video. The so-called AI behind this single is bands own written and integrated system called, ‘Re-Armed = ATHNTC INDVDLS’.

BAND COMMENTS ON:
“Behold, our magnificent new song and creation ‘Lost and Cast Off’ made via our very own ‘ATHNTC INDVDLS’ – the Mozart of data mastication. We shoveled endless streams of data into our five cores and five processors. Including melodies, chords, and lyrical nuances – like a musical buffet for our algorithmic brains. We learned, adapted, and now spit out tunes with an artistic flair that leaves us wondering, did we even contribute? Can you spot the elusive line between man and machine-made? We can’t either! Off to Bahama Beach, where we soak in royalties with a side of cocktails.

About the track itself and lyrical theme behind it. Take a look around and see the current state of world, it seems that we are on harm’s way. So, refuel your spaceships, it’s time to escape!”
