Black/Doom metal project IN A FOREST DARK proudly presents the official video for the track “Forever Alone,”  taken from the upcoming album “Buried Giant”, due for release on October 20th, 2023 via Wormholedeath.

“Forever Alone” is a track that explores themes of mortality, fate, the afterlife, and the solitary nature of our journey through life and death. They have a contemplative and somewhat melancholic tone, inviting the listener to reflect on the mysteries of existence.

In a Forest Dark is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Mário Pereira (Eternal Mourning), whose talent and creativity shine through in every note of their music. “Buried Giant” is a conceptual masterpiece, drawing inspiration from Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel of the same name. It takes listeners on an immersive journey into the realms of doom, black, and gothic metal, fusing sublime darkness with melancholic beauty.

UK Punk Rock Legends PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES Cover The Rolling Stones’ Classic ‘Mother’s Little Helper’

Hot on the heels of their electrifying version of AC/DC’s “Live Wire,” released earlier this year as part of the High Voltage Punk – A Tribute To AC/DC compilation that also featured tracks by UK Subs, 999, Fear, Skids, Anti-Nowhere League, The Vibrators, and more, Brighton’s merry band o’ misfits PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES release a full throttle version of The Rolling Stones’ classic “Mother’s Little Helper.”

Originally released in 1966 as part of their commercial and critical breakthrough album Aftermath, “Mother’s Little Helper” showcased the burgeoning songwriting talent of the young Mick Jagger and Keith Richards while its subversive message, calling out the hypocrisy of upper-class drug users, cemented the Stones’ credibility in the countercultural revolution. PATTTB’s version strips the song to its bare essentials, a driving chord progression and a spitfire vocal melody that offers founding vocalist Peter Bywaters a chance to wax serious for a change and let his inner rabble-rouser take center stage. The result is a track that sounds as fresh and new as anything coming out of today’s punk rock scene, which is no mean feat considering the band who created it have been in the game for over 4 decades!

Founding guitarist Del Greening shares, “When Cleopatra Records asked us to cover a Rolling Stones tune, Peter immediately picked their ‘60s classic ‘Mother’s Little Helper.’ It had a guitar riff that could be Test Tubed up, and Oi! at the end and it was about drugs. Perfect!”

Bywaters adds, “A song about getting old and taking drugs. Sums us up to a T.“

VARATHRON Reveal New Album “The Crimson Temple” Details

Hellenic black metal originals VARATHRON unveil details of their anxiously-awaited new studio album, “The Crimson Temple”, scheduled for a December 1st release on Agonia Records.

With a sound characterized by epic atmospheres, progressive immersion and an old-school diehardness, “The Crimson Temple” marks the seventh installment from Greek trailblazers VARATHRON, known to be amongst the pioneers of the Hellenic Black Metal genre. The band’s iconic vocalist Stefan Necroabyssious, who’s been at VARATHRON‘s helm for the last 35 years, and whose “lust for unholy creations” has only ever gotten bigger and better, reflects, that “The Crimson Temple” has seen the band commit its unyielding devotion and uncompromising passion to every fine detail; from the album’s meticulous production, mixing and mastering at Achilleas Kalantzis‘s Suncord Audiolab, to its rich visual side, designed and painted by Paolo Girardi.

“The album consists of 10 tracks in an epic, 46 minute ride into the depths of our deranged vision,” comments band’s leader Stefan. “As always, we shall never forget to express our eternal gratitude for your overwhelming support all these years. We are most eager to share everything with you!”

The opus arrives five years after “Patriarchs Of Evil”; a refreshing effort, which took many of the 2018’s best-of hard rock & metal lists by storm, set the anticipation for “The Crimson Temple”, and found VARATHRON‘s creative potential and musical zest on par with 1988 – the year it had all began. The band’s line-up remains unchanged with Stefan Necroabyssious on vocals, Achilleas C on guitars & keyboards, Sotiris on guitars, Stratos on bass and Haris on drums.

CARNATION Bring Back Old-School Brutality on ‘Cycle of Suffering’

‘Cursed Mortality’ casts CARNATION in a deeper and darker light. The first four singles off the Belgian band’s new album experiment with gloomy synths, melodic leads, clean vocals and lyrics inspired by sci-fi classics and a real life horror story from WWII. Their new single “Cycle of Suffering” is a brutal reminder of why Carnation are at the forefront of the old-school death metal revival.

“A mere month separates us from the highly anticipated launch of ‘Cursed Mortality’,” says the band. “It is with great excitement that we present to you the premiere of the album’s last single ‘Cycle of Suffering'”.

Simon Duson can make his voice sound big and beautiful. Just watch him belt and belch out one of the album’s earlier singles in one take. But there’s no clean singing on “Cycle of Suffering”. Instead, Duson busts out his most cavernous, ghastly death growl. The rest of the band also take inflicting maximum punishment deathly seriously, pumping the song full of thunderous double bass kicks and a squealing guitar solo that seizes the spotlight.

“‘Cycle of Suffering’ is a relentless track that expertly treads the line between commanding lead sections and thunderous rhythmic riffage,” says Carnation. “It’s an absolute blast to perform, which is why we gave it an energetic music video that focuses on our live performance. Undoubtedly, this track will end up in the set list of many of our future live shows”.

AXS TV‘s popular “Heavy Metal Halloween” rises again this October, putting the spooky spotlight on in-depth artist profiles, powerhouse performances and special themed episodes of AXS TV original series.

This year’s lineup is headlined by the premiere of Metal Massacre: The Story Behind the Legendary Album, making its network debut on October 28 at 9pE. Packed with all-star interviews, rare photos, the film tells the story of the groundbreaking 1982 Metal Massacre vinyl compilation-a sonic celebration of the burgeoning Los Angeles Metal scene, which helped launch the careers of iconic acts Metallica  and  Ratt, and ultimately led to the birth of the legendary independent record label Metal Blade Records. The film boasts priceless commentary and anecdotes from Metal Blade founder Brian Slagel and his friend and collaborator John Kornarens, two metalheads with a dream who made Metal Massacre a reality; as well as Metallica members Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield; Ratt  frontman  Stephen Pearcy; and Black N’ Blue singer Jamie St. James, among many others.
