Despite HARM’S WAY‘s reputation for unrelenting ferocity, Common Suffering surprises at several turns with quieter moments of intricate songwriting that emphasizes light and shade. It’s their understanding of how to effectively orchestrate these dynamics that makes their latest feel infinitely more merciless. This is Harm’s Way at their best – the ambitious sound of a band traversing new ideas and succeeding with their strongest and most fully-realized effort to date. For their improbable new single “Undertow,” the band united with Kristina Esfandiari (King Woman) whose haunting vocals add a whole new dimension. It comes with an arresting video directed by Finn O’Connell and features both Harm’s Way and Esfandiari.

Of the single, the band reveals, “‘Undertow’ looks at the cycle of life and death, and one’s process of coming to a space of acceptance with the latter. While we can argue that self-preservation is inherently human, finding peace in death and dying brings us that much closer to humility and our shared humanity.” Watch the video below.

Listen / Share / Playlist “Undertow”

For nearly two decades, Harm’s Way has evolved from whispered underground favorites to favorite sons with an arsenal of songs that helped shape heavy music’s trajectory – creating a roadmap for legions interested in “reinventing” themselves. Harm’s Way has never stayed complacent and constantly morphed shape- absorbing and reapplying influences in new and creative ways to create some of the most well-executed songs in hardcore punk and metal.

And yet, considering the changeling that they and their previous efforts are, Common Suffering is easily the most musically diverse undertaking in their catalog. The album beams with incredibly memorable riffs, breakdowns, and impeccable songwriting. The title is a clear nod to the collective experiences of the past three years of chaos, misanthropy, paranoia, disorder, confusion and anxiety, with the band exploring themes ranging from personal struggles with mental health, relationships, political upheaval, corruption, and political power.

This time around, Harm’s Way shifted to recording at Studio 4 in Pennsylvania with producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Code Orange). Going into the recording, the goal was to improve some of the band’s processes, examine vocal cadences and experiment during production to gain the best idea from each track. The first change dealt with refocusing members on their specific wheelhouses. While vocalist James Pligge had previously assisted with riffs, on this effort, his main objective was to ensure the perfect vocal attack- leaning into Yip for advice and letting the remainder of the band take the wheel with their respective parts. The result is each player pushing to the far reaches and creating material that has previously never been colonized by any band, or hardcore writ large, before.

As masterful and impressive as Common Suffering is, the precision-guided cluster bombs that make up the album are just ten more reasons for Harm’s Way fans to queue up to see one of the best and most vicious live shows on the planet. There, amongst the wide smiles, flailing arms and bodies pinballing off of the edges of the pit, is where the world will see just how singular and uncommon the new effort is. This Fall the band hit the road for a month-long North American tour which routes them through the Midwest, Texas, both coasts and more. Fleshwater, Ingrown and Jivebomb are set as support. See below for a full list of dates. Purchase tickets here.

ASINHELL Share ‘Desert of Doom’ Lyric Video

For more than 20 years, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been spearheading Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, releasing eight full lengths, selling millions of albums, and filling stadiums worldwide. Before fronting Volbeat, however, Poulsen formed death metal band Dominus, which recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid ’90s. When Poulsen was putting together songs for Volbeat‘s 2021 album, Servant of the Mind, he wrote a bunch of death metal riffs and saved them on his phone. Then, when he was done with the Volbeat record, he reopened the rusty gates to Armageddon and started putting together songs for his new death metal band ASINHELL, whose debut album Impii Hora (Latin for “Ungodly Hour”), is a tribute to Poulsen’s favorite old-school groups.

Impii Hora will be released September 29 via Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has shared “Desert of Doom” – Watch + listen here.

“‘Desert of Doom’ was inspired by Bolt Thrower, Death, Entombed, and Motörhead. Bang your head ’til it doesn’t bang no more!,” says Poulsen.

Poulsen has rekindled the death metal fire that fueled his first band Dominus. He began jamming on riffs with longtime friend and neighbor, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy). The two started playing in Morten’s tiny garage: no mics, no P.A. – just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up like they used when they were teenagers. Soon, the pair were completing a new song every time they got together. When it came time to add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend, who also happened to be one of his all-time favorite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).

“I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat,” Grewe says. “Then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Yes, of course!’“

With Asinhell fully formed, the three convened with Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. When it was time to add lead guitar to the album, Michael looked no further than friend and The Arcane Order axeman Flemming C. Lund.

IMPII HORA TRACK LISTING:
01. Fall of the Loyal Warrior
02. Inner Sancticide
03. Island of Dead Men
04. Trophies
05. The Ultimate Sin
06. Wolfpack Laws
07. Desert of Doom
08. Pyromantic Scryer
09. Impii Hora
10. Føj for Helvede

Exclusive Premiere for Finland: VANSIND – ‘Grib Til Våben’ Official Video

“Grib Til Våben” (A Call To Arms) is the first single from VANSIND‘s upcoming debut album “Mørket”, to be released this year on Mighty Music. A song about the Scandinavian people’s journeys towards the highlands in the north, “Grib Til Våben” tells a tale of a cunning attack under the cover of darkness, which the attacking Vikings had expected would go as easily as when they took England in the south. But it is also the story of a brave people with a strong leader who grows into the role of her people’s true hero and ruler. On the coast, one will discover the beauty of the elusive thistle, which at first glance seems harmless, but which will always defend itself and draw blood from those too proud to respect it. Similarly, the Scottish clansmen will defend themselves to the death and will certainly not surrender until the final battle is decided.

With the defining sound of the bagpipes, which brings to mind the wild heather of the highlands and the rugged Scottish coastal landscapes, combined with the hard-hitting rhythmic folk-metal sound, Vansind once again shows themselves from the melodic and at the same time dark and heavy side.

Today, VANSIND team up with Metal Shock Finland to premiere “Grib Til Våben” official video for Finnish territory, enjoy it here:

After a very promising EP released back in 2021 and a handful of singles that sparked folk metal fans’ enthusiasm – especially the Scandinavian strain – VANSIND is finally ready to release its debut album, “Mørket”. With their feet planted firmly in the Danish soil, the band provides a solid soundtrack for battle, chain dance and raised horns with melodies inspired by folk music that meets solid metal, rumbling growls, and clean female singing. The lyrical themes are inspired by the darker side of Nordic mythology and Scandinavian history.

Where the glimmer of the eye meets the glimpse of the sword you’ll find Vansind. And, if you enter the dance, maybe you’ll get a glimpse of Valhal too.

Vansind was formed in the summer of 2019 as a folk-inspired metal band. The band is based in Slagelse, Denmark, though the members are from all over the country. Just as the members’ geographical difference their musical background is also vastly different (with members of Panzerchrist, Iron Fire, Vanir, Detest and Mindmare gracing the lineup), they share their love for the music and a wish to add something special to the Danish folk scene. This year alone they graced festivals such as Næstved Metalfest, Asgaard Rock Festival, Warhorns Festival (UK), Hörnerfest (DE) and Burning Q Festival (DE) and they’re now set sailing for a bigger conquering trip with their amazing debut studio album.

“Mørket” will be released on LP (black vinyl, limited to 300) and digital formats via Mighty Music on November 17th, 2023.

Lineup:
J. Asgaard – vocals
Line Burglin – vocals
Kirk Backarach – guitars
Mikael Christensen – bass
Rikke Klint Johansen – keyboards, tinwhistles, bagpipes
Danni Lyse Jelsgaard – drums

Exclusive Premiere for Finland: ALLAMEDAH – ‘Alma’ Official Video

“Alma” is the last song and video to be shown from ALLAMEDAH‘s three-track EP of the same title. Sung in both English and Portuguese, it embodies all the artistic power of the Portuguese combo: melodic, avantgardish (take a look at the amazing Portuguese guitar middle session!), groovy and with a lot of “alma” (soul).

Letting go of the ego can be a difficult and sometimes painful process, but it is also a path to freedom and true self-awareness. When we release our attachment to the ego and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, we open ourselves up to a new level of understanding and consciousness.

Letting go of the ego means releasing our need for control and our attachment to the opinions of others. It means embracing our vulnerability and recognizing that our true strength lies in our ability to be open and receptive to the world around us.
At first, the process of letting go may feel like a loss, as we confront the parts of ourselves that we have held onto for so long. But as we continue to let go, we discover a new sense of lightness and freedom, as we shed the layers of the ego and embrace our true selves.

Ultimately, letting go of the ego is a journey of self-discovery and transformation. It is an invitation to live with greater authenticity and purpose and to embrace the fullness of our humanity.

Metal Shock Finland has a pleasure to premiere for Finland ALLAMEDAH’s official video ‘Alma’, check it out below.

Allamedah is a Portuguese metal band, founded in 2016 by singer and guitarist David Bitton and drummer João Faria. The group’s sound is evidently marked by modern metal and the fusion with other musical genres, such as fado and rap, as demonstrated by the collaborations on the previously released song “Algema”, with fado singer Valéria and the Portuguese guitar player João Luzio; and “Incerto”, which featured American rapper Jayneto. They sing mainly in Portuguese and English, with the occasional use of Hebrew.

Following the signing with the German/Danish label UPRISING! Records, Allamedah will release their debut EP “Alma”, containing three new tracks. The title-track is sung in both Portuguese and English, with lyrics about letting go of the ego, and features the huge talent of Ricardo Gordo in the amazing Portuguese guitar “Desvanescente” is a Portuguese-sung tune, with an evident pop/rock approach on one side, and an amazing guitar solo (courtesy of Brazilian axeman Roberto Barros, of Edu Falaschi’s band), while lyrics approach the ephemeral side of social media. “The Great Unknown” explores the more melodic side of Allamedah, in a totally English language song with amazing vocal layers.

Three different songs with the guideline of Allamedah’s unsettled talent and with a great individual potential. All in all, a confident and bold step for the Lisboa collective, showing they’re no longer one of the best-kept secrets in the Portuguese scene – but are looking to bring their art forth and abroad.

“Alma” is released in digital format via UPRISING! Records today, on September 8th, 2023.

Lineup:
David Bitton – vocals, guitars
João Faria – drums
Hugo Capelo – bass
Joao Corceiro – guitar
Ricardo Gordo – Portuguese guitar solo (guest)

GARY MOORE’s “Back To The Blues” Released on Vinyl for the First Time Ever This October

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Gary Moore. Leave a comment

On October 13th, BMG and Gary Moore release Back To The Blues on double heavyweight vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve. The album will also be released both digitally and on CD.

Back To The Blues, was Gary Moore’s 13th solo album, where he went back to his traditional blues style. This album has never previously been released on vinyl, and contains new liner notes written by Dave Everley.  This release contains bonus tracks ‘Picture Of The Moon (Single Edit)’, ‘Cold Black Night (Live At VH1)’ and ‘Stormy Monday (Live At VH1)’.

Gary Moore rocked the world of Blues and Rock with his virtuoso guitar playing and soulful voice. Best known for his evocative solo hits, Parisienne Walkways and Still Got the Blues, and his on/off membership of Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore’s solo career comprises over twenty albums. Throughout the 1980s, Gary moved up the rock hierarchy, but turned his back on what he regarded as the empty flash of metal and reverted to his heart music – the blues – where ironically, he scored his biggest commercial success through his 1990s and 2000s blues albums.

As well as running his own bands, during a successful solo career, Gary mixed with the best that rock and blues could offer, playing live and on record with George Harrison, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Greg Lake, BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins and many others. Gary Moore is regarded as one of the most influential Irish musicians of all time. Having been honored by both Gibson and Fender with signature guitars, the Northern Irish star is still seen as one of the best guitar players of all time.
