Finnish melodic death metal band WHERE’S MY BIBLE released a new single and music video Fenrir. The track is taken from the upcoming studio album.

The band will start their South America tour at the end of September performing in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina. The tour is made in cooperation with the Come To Latin America – project and Xaninho Discos. On the 20th of October the band will play their last show in Lahti, Finland supporting Bloodred Hourglass before entering the studio and finalizing their upcoming new album which will be released in 2024.

LISTEN Fenrir on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/wmb-fenrir – Single cover by Teppo Ristola

Vocalist Jussi Matilainen Comments:
“The lyrics are a combination of the human mind and Nordic mythology as a metaphor.

In the song ‘Fenrir’ we focus on bringing the story to life with theatrics adding a poetic style of narration to it, like in the old days.

The song is about Fenrir the wolf eating the sun when Ragnarok starts and thus setting an end to an era and launching a mythical apocalypse.

The main idea behind this story is; what is your Fenrir? What is the big bad beast to destroy your own world? Fenrir can be a real thing and alive because of your own creation. It can be an unsolved problem in your life you never took care of and it haunts you in the dark of night.

In this song, we included nearly a thousand-year-old instruments such as the kravik lyre (which is self-made) and the tagelharpa to enhance the narrative and its mythical essence.

The theme of the album itself revolves strongly around Nordic mythology and the human mind, especially during the night time. We will open this concept more later on but now is a great time to follow us.“

Guitarist Pasi Löfgren comments:
“The upcoming album follows musically the same path of style as the “Circle” EP by bringing it to an even deeper level.

On Fenrir I wanted to include more of our technical playing combined with beautiful melodies and heavy riffs. And I couldn’t be happier how it turned out. With new added elements like kravik lyre and tagelharpa at the end of the song makes a great mix of technicality, melodiousness and heaviness and it is a perfect first taste of what you can expect from the album.”

Olli Tiainen comments:

(Video director)

“Although it’s just about music videos, I feel that when making Where’s My Bible’s videos, we’re always dealing with something significant and meaningful, and Fenrir is no exception.

From my perspective the story is trying to convey a message where our minds can lead us to imagine problems and fear the worst. Even though these things exist only in our minds, over time, they grow and begin to affect our experience of reality. The inner world cannot be escaped; it must be confronted; otherwise, our fears will chain us in darkness.

Where’s My Bible’s videos are not just gloominess for the sake of gloominess, but there’s always a greater message in the background.”

LACOLPA Release New Single ‘The Last Amethyst Deceiver’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 8, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: LACOLPA. Leave a comment

“The Last Amethyst Deceiver” is the new release by Blackened Doom/Noise band LACOLPA.

Stream it HERE (the song was officially premiered at Cvlt Nation)

The single is a stream of consciousness type of reinterpretation of a song originally written and performed by Coil, brought to light by sessions of cathartic improvisations.

After the debut album “Mea Maxima Culpa” from 2017, and “Post Tenebras Lux” from 2020, both of which were released to critical acclaim and ended up being featured in many album of the year charts by the likes of Cvlt Nation and The Wire Magazine amongst many others, LACOLPA are back with a new single.

This release constitutes the first chapter of a trilogy of digital releases leading up to LACOLPA‘s much anticipated third album scheduled for early 2024.

The monstrously heavy and sludgier parts that are one of LACOLPA’s trademarks here give way to something even more eerie and painful, creating soundscapes of improvisational noise and ambient drone that still manage to retain all the monolithically dark and ominous atmospheres typical of the band since its inception in 2015.

More than a simple cover version of a track by Coil, with “The Last Amethyst Deceiver” LACOLPA really wish to pay homage to one of the most innovative bands ever, revealing how Coil have always been a source of inspiration for them.

Decoding and reinterpreting one of Coil’s last great sonic manifestation, LACOLPA have created something vast and meditative, capturing and expanding upon the looming, unmistakable sense of impending loss that was typical of the magical music created by Balance, Christopherson and Co.

LACOLPA is a blackened doom/noise band from Alessandria (Italy) that experiments different stratifications of sonic nightmares.

Active since 2015, they have released 2 demos and 2 full length albums.

Both “Mea Maxima Culpa” (2017) and “Post Tenebras Lux” (2020) were released to critical acclaim and ended up being featured in many album of the year charts by the likes of Cvlt Nation and The Wire Magazine amongst many others.

Their sound is monolithically dark and ominous, a distinctive trademark merging doom and noise that has become heavier and sludgier with every release, all the while experimenting with some of the most painful soundscapes of improvisational noise and drone metal.

Thematically, their lyrics outlines LACOLPA’s philosophy of pain, deeply rooted in the human condition of eternal suffering.
Agony is the only hope for transcendence, and yet here faith is worth nothing, because crosses are invisible and only pain is real.

Accepting defeat, embracing pain, becoming a martyr won’t lead to any illumination – but to the realisation that our existence is only an error, a mistake, a sin performed by God himself in the act of projecting an image of his real self upon us.

Line-up:

Andrea Moio: bass
Cecco Testa: synth, noise, samples
Davide Boeri: drums
Davide Destro: guitars, Synth/Effects/Moog Mario Olivieri: vocals

REBAELLIUN Premiere New Track ‘All Hail The Regicide’

Brazilian death metal unit REBAELLIUN shares music video for new track “All Hail The Regicide” in advance of new album “Under The Sign Of Rebellion”, which will be released on September 22nd via Agonia Records. The  video can be found below.

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” is a death metal manifest of anger and defiance, rage and resistance, sparked by the falsehood and corruption that have plagued Brazil in recent years. The album’s intense cannonade of brutal riffing, battering drumming and hard-charging rhythms mirrors the many adversities the three-piece was forced to overcome en route to its completion.

Commented by REBAELLIUN: “When we started the compositions for the next album, we didn’t imagine that we would go through a global pandemic, along with it, a retrograde and conservative uprising here in Brazil; in addition to, over time, a government that proved to be spurious and corrupt. When we started recording, we didn’t have lyrics, because the pandemic had messed up and delayed everyone’s lives, so, in a moment of pure anger for everything that was happening around us, we decided to start recording even without rehearsals. The indignation was so big, that we wanted to vent everything we were feeling. The lyrics were written in opposition to what we here call ‘cidadão de bem’ or ‘good people’, exposing the fallacy that is the life of these abject beings. Under The Sign Of Rebellion is an album that tries to demonstrate – through death metal –  the insanities of life.”

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” is the last album of REBAELLIUN to feature the late bassist/vocalist Lohy Fabiano (1978-2022), who played on all of the band’s albums except for the debut, “Burn The Promised Land”, from 1999.

Until REBAELLIUN‘s dissolution in 2002, the trio celebrated its most potent period, having released two studio albums via Hammerheart Records. They also played several tours – most of which took place in Europe – and shared the stage with Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Vader and Behemoth. In 2015 the original line-up decided to reunite and released its third installment “The Hell’s Decrees” (2016). The record was followed by a European co-headlining tour with Pestilence, alongside festival shows at Party San Open Air and Brutal Assault Open Air. In 2022, Bruno Añaña has been announced as the band’s new vocalist and bassist.

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” was recorded during summer 2021 at RR44 Studio by Rafael Siqueira and mastered by Jander Antunes. The cover artwork was created by Sebastian Suarez and the layout and booklet by Alcides Burn (Nervosa).

AUTARKH Release Lyric Video for First New Track ‘Strife’

Dutch extreme metal outfit AUTARKH are now unveiling the very first track ‘Strife’, which is taken from the upcoming album “Emergent”. This new industrial offering will be released via Season of Mist underground activists on November 10, 2023. The intense, glitchy music video can now be viewed via the official Season of Mist YouTube channel HERE.

AUTARKH comments on the track: ”Strife shows a different direction we take on Emergent: a more straightforward approach where specific atmospheres rather than the density and intensity of Form In Motion are emphasized. Guitarist David Luiten has done an outstanding job writing this track. The remarkable guitar theme – that we reused in the AUTARKH III song Lost In Sight – captivated me instantly when I heard the original version (for a different project) in 2020, and led to this AUTARKH version that we are delighted to share with you today!’’

Pre-orders for “Emergent” are now available via the Season of Mist shop HERE – Pre-save “Emergent” HERE

Track-list
1. Open Focus (6:59)
2. Strife (5:23) [WATCH]
3. Duhkha (5:20)
4. Trek (5:26)
5. Refocus (4:49)
6. Aperture (1:46)
7. Eye Of Horus (4:23)
8. Countless Kaleidoscopes (5:17)
9. Ka (6:14)
Total: 45:37

Dutch contemporary metal adventurers AUTARKH are back with their sophomore full-length album Emergent. Michel Nienhuis, founder of AUTARKH and DODECAHEDRON, teamed up again with guitarist/producer David Luiten (INFERUM), bassist Desmond Kuijk (DEAR MOTHER) and electronics wizard Tijnn Verbruggen to create the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut album Form In Motion, released by Season Of Mist on 12 March 2021. Monica Kendrick (Chicago Reader, US) on the relevance of the group’s debut:

“And I’ll call it now: given the time to flourish and sink into the ears of an audience, Autarkh will become highly influential on the next generation of extreme metal.”

Emergent is another testament to AUTARKH’s imagination and creativity. It delivers increased versatility and contrast, and sees the band expand towards more uplifting and consonant territories. Form In Motion explored the boundaries of sonic extremes; on Emergent, AUTARKH broadens its horizon and shows diversity and nuance while preserving its intense and razor-sharp edge.

With nine tracks, Emergent is a sonic exploration of the inner universe where all things light and dark can be encountered. The listener is lured into an Open Focus (a meditative state of mind) in preparation for an inward journey along the physical energy centres. From the thumping synth basses of Strife and the menacing sludgy melancholy of Duhkha, we move into the bewildering blasts of Trek, where stellar harmonies will eventually burst through the oppressive atmosphere. The trip continues with the crushing downtempo groove that enforces Refocus, as well as the mind-bending a capella interlude Aperture and the frivolous Eye Of Horus and Countless Kaleidoscopes, to finally deliver all-encompassing enlightenment with Ka.

Composers Nienhuis’s and Luiten’s statements and states of mind capture the same capriciousness and unease of Form In Motion, this time leaving a more open, diverse and radiant imprint. With exciting vocal harmonies, bold contrasts and a vivid imagination, AUTARKH sheds a bright light on the inner self and exposes it to the world with intensity and conviction. That makes Emergent an evocative release with a multilayered yet crystal-clear production that promises a bright future for AUTARKH.

David Luiten: vocals & guitars
Desmond Kuijk: bass
Tijnn Verbruggen: synths & beats

Irish Guitarist DOM MARTIN Releases ‘Belfast Blues’ Single + Music Video

Multi award-winning Blues/Rock/Americana/Roots artist DOM MARTIN is pleased to announce the release of “Belfast Blues” – the third single taken from his highly anticipated third studio album “Buried In The Hail” released by Forty Below Records on 22nd September 2023.

The album is available to pre-order from https://fortybelow.ffm.to/buried-in-the-hail.

The third single, “Belfast Blues,” released Friday 8 September, is available to stream HERE.

“Buried In the Hail” was recorded at Golden Egg Studios in Ireland. The album was produced in Dublin by Grammy-Nominated producers Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy and co-produced by Dom Martin. Very much steeped in the Roots, Americana, and the Blues genres, many of the tracks on the new album possess an almost cinematic theme.

Dom admits the new album is the first complete work that he’s recorded which he is 100% happy with and proud to release. Says Dom, “Buried In the Hail is the kind of album where the more you listen to it, the more you will get out of it.”

“The Belfast guitarist is a sprawling talent.”  – Classic Rock

“Martin’s vocal style is so reminiscent of John Martyn it’s uncanny.” – Blues in Britain

“An electric guitar masterclass” – HRH Magazine

“Buried In The Hail is a Pandora’s box of lyrical masterpieces.” – Blues Matters

“Belfast Blues is about the days I spent playing the pubs and clubs in Northern Ireland,” says Dom. “Getting in fights, fires, getting robbed, getting drunk and beaten and just generally misbehaving. Being an animal. I was a different person back then.”

Why the cover of Willie Nelson’s “Crazy”? “When I was a kid, I always loved the song, my Aunt Breda was a Patsy fan, I think I liked it most probably for the key change, I was shocked when I later found out it was written by Willie Nelson, what a guy! This version is how I felt at the time, I had the music and these lyrics just fit in more ways than one

Dom will tour the new album throughout the UK and Ireland in October and November 2023 and Europe in June 2024. See tour dates listed below.

ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK

1 – Hello In There
So many songs could have been made with this one. In many ways this album is about the mind and losing it. It ’s also about accepting its function. That you ’re a little crazy and that ’s okay! I used this for the intro as it ’s such a nice calm before the storm compared to the 10-ton catastrophe on a 50-pound chain feeling from a few of the others on here. The children laughing in the background really made it. Children ’s laughter is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world and I’ m glad I could include it in here.

2 – Daylight I Will Find
It’s all about the music. Sweet and simple really. It ’s no soft option for a good life. Life is full of challenges, and it ’ll drive you insane if you let it. It doesn ’t matter what it is, you must find your own way through it and in one piece! Find your own daylight. We all have it! It ’s you! Love yourself.

3 – Government
I’m not too sure what to say about this one lyrically. I ’m not political. I ’m not on any side. I believe in right, and something is not right with the current world order running of things but as for the song, it has a very Celtic feel to it. My Irish ghosts, influences and banshees are howling the wind at my back as if to tell me to stay away from explaining this song faithfully.

4 – Belfast Blues
I’m a Belfast native. I love the place and the people. Just about every family has lost blood on the streets here yet it ’s still a great place to witness. As we’d say there’s some characters about so there is! The song is about the days I spent playing the pubs and clubs in Northern Ireland. Getting in fights, fires, getting robbed, getting drunk and beaten and just generally misbehaving. Being an animal. I was a different person back then. I’ve become a lot younger now than I was back then and am finally living a life.

5 – Crazy
I usually have at least one cover on my albums, and I wanted something I could relate to. I wanted something I could identify with, and the lyrics are just it! I played this completely broken down, out of my mind and titanically heartbroken. It was written by Willie Nelson and made big by the beautiful Patsy Cline. As a cover song I think I’ve done a pretty good alternative version that does hold a feeling of that crazy, deeper burning love and the loss of it that makes us all a little… unhinged.

6 – Unhinged
This is a song about feeling unhinged by society, finding falseness in people who greet you with smiles and leave you with nothing.

7 – The Fall
It’s hard to write any one thing about this song. The fall of society comes to mind. It’s about people and what we do to each other. The timelines of history. It ’s not too late for us though to keep it positive and I still have tons of hope for the future. I’m not just talking about my own future. We all need to be a little nicer to each other, that ’s all. It ’s that easy. Or we are going to fall…

8 – Howlin’
I love the music of Howlin ’ Wolf and I wanted to pay my respects to the man. This one ’s for you Wolf!

9 – Buried In The Hail
Going deep into your own mind can be dangerous. It can be difficult even to get to the dangerous part, you can get stuck in there. Your own locked room. I was stuck there for a while but I got out, though I do go back from time to time. It’s about revisiting the horrors that I have encountered and the experiences I have lived through so far. I always leave these situations feeling a bit raw, a little edgy. You need to be broken into pieces with unknown substances and possess a bag of pure emotion to write a song like this. It ’s an acceptance that a part of life has had to be cut off to make it out alive. For example, your leg is stuck and the water is rising… cut it off!

10 – Lefty 2 Guns
A short story of a hitman. He ends this show by killing the parts I can ’t have anymore and he buries it all in the album cover and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

11 – Laid To Rest
The last gasp of music, the outro. Again, like the intro, I could have gone any direction with this one. It has a certain end game feel to it, a finality. Everything may seem personal on this album and a lot of it is, but it wasn ’t by design, as these songs are how I felt, and they are all played from the heart to heal and move on. A “refresh” of some sorts, to let go of the past as there is no future in history. Laid to rest says that symbolically with its silence.

Roots Rockers BYWATER CALL Release New Single ‘For All We Know’

Following their February 2023 UK tour supporting Robert Jon & The Wreck, and the July 26th release of their recent critically acclaimed single “Sweet Maria”, rising Canadian southern soul, roots rock band BYWATER CALL released a new single “For All We Know” on Wednesday, September 6th.

The single is available on all streaming platforms HERE.

“For All We Know” precedes Bywater Call’s upcoming September and October UK and European tour dates.  The band tour the UK from October 3-13th. Tickets for all concerts are available from www.bywatercall.com (tour dates listed below).

“For All We Know” is a rootsy, Americana inspired rock song that’s about listening to your inner voice and taking chances on your hopes and dreams, no matter what obstacles, internal and external, may lie in the way.  Through lyrics, vocals and form, the song progresses from stripped down, delicate and questioning, to full, joyous, and celebratory.

“For All We Know” takes the listener on a journey, opening with beautiful acoustic guitar picking from Dave Barnes and a soft, exposed vocal from Meghan Parnell, building to a strong, full band, driving finale, representing the courage, strength and satisfaction in self-knowledge and self-actualization.

“For All We Know” was filmed and recorded at friend, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and engineer Kevin Howley’s barn studio in the country of Ontario, Canada. Bass (Mike Meusel), drums (Bruce McCarthy), horns (Julian Nalli, sax and Stephen Dyte, trumpet) and keys (John Kervin) were captured live-off-the-floor. Overdubs including background vocals from Claire Davis and Joanna Mohammed (Aphrose) were captured at drummer Bruce McCarthy’s home studio the Beat Farm, where he also acted as mixing engineer.

Video team Lightning House Media out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, joined the band for the recording session, capturing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at a unique recording process, followed by a live performance as the sun was setting.

“For All We Know” is Bywater Call’s second single following their highly anticipated sophomore album “Remain” released in September 2022, which is available on all streaming platforms and for purchase on CD and vinyl.

Meghan Parnell and Dave Barnes are the driving force behind Bywater Call, a powerhouse seven-piece Southern soul, roots rock band from Toronto, Canada.

Formed in 2017, the band has received multiple Independent Blues and Maple Blues Award nominations including Entertainer of the Year and Best Female Vocalist for the 2023 Awards Season. They have toured extensively in Europe over the last few years, including in May and June of 2022, featuring a mainstage appearance at the Netherlands’ premiere blues festival Moulin Blues.  Their shows were praised in Dutch and German media, with references to Meghan as one of the best female voices in blues and roots today.

In August 2023, the band participated in Joe Bonamassa’s third Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Mediterranean Cruise alongside headliners Blackberry Smoke, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, including a performance at the All-Star Jam on the mainstage with Bonamassa himself.

Bywater Call have commanded festival stages from Belgium to Germany in Europe, Florida to Kentucky and Tennessee in the USA, and Toronto to Quebec City in Canada. In May of 2023, they opened for the Canadian Award-winning band White Horse at the inaugural edition of the Smokestack Music Festival in Hamilton, Ontario.

Bywater Call continues to tour across the US throughout the remainder of 2023 and will return to tour Europe, including their first headline tour of the UK from October 3-13th.

Fans of Bywater Call can look forward to their second single of 2023 “For All We Know” available on all platforms from July 26th.  To stay updated and be a part of Bywater Call’s rapidly growing fanbase visit www.bywatercall.com  for more details.
