Globally-renowned Australian instrumental prog trio THE OMNIFIC have revealed their progressive masterpiece ‘Phat Mackerel’, out now via Wild Thing Records. The track comes as the band’s first new offering since their acclaimed 2021 debut album, Escapades, which cemented The Omnific’s status as torchbearers of the next generation of progressive rock and metal, thanks to their unparalleled musicianship and unmistakable, earthmoving dual-bass lineup.

Stream ‘Phat Mackerel’ here: https://ffm.to/phatmackerel

By eschewing guitars for a second bass, the supernatural intertwining duality of bassists Matt Fack (Fackrell) and Toby Peterson-Stewart, backed by flamboyant drummer Jerome Lematua, tap into this distinct frequency that sings in ways that vocals could not replicate; a constant that has remained true since the band’s formation in 2016. The Omnific’s mosaic of progressive rock, djent, funk, and synth-driven soundscapes has captivated a worldwide following, with the young virtuosic band accruing millions of streams and views on Spotify and YouTube, respectively.

The Omnific have built a reputation for delivering stunning technical live shows that include international headlining tours, and sharing stages with the likes of Between The Buried And Me, Intervals, and Twelve Foot Ninja. This year, the group toured with Ne Obliviscaris in Europe, and Polyphia on their sold-out Australian tour; following Polyphia’s own Clay Gober featuring on the Escapades hit track Antecedent.

The Omnific will be touring their new single with their recently-announced 46-date Phat Mackerel World Tour, covering Australia, Europe, UK, USA, and Canada.

The EU / UK dates will see the Australians perform at legendary German festivals Reeperbahn and Euroblast, plus headline dates.

EU / UK Dates (with special guests Walkways, Future Static, Shell Beach):

Sep 17: HU, Budapest, A38*
Sep 18: AT, Vienna, B72*
Sep 19: CZ, Prague, Klubovna*
Sep 21: DE, Hamburg, Reeperbahn Festival, Bahnhof Pauli
Sep 22: DE, Hamburg, Reeperbahn Festival, Molotow +

A keen eye may catch that the name “Phat Mackerel” comes from a spoonerism of Fackrell’s name, one which he has been tagged with for his entire life. Now years later and with the trio’s combined power, The Omnific slap and tap their way through virtual realms, seeking to finally settle the score with the track’s titular foe. Adam Bentley (Felix Martin, Arch Echo) and Ermin Hamidovic (Plini, Periphery, Devin Townsend) return for mixing and mastering duties respectively, injecting this latest single with the same shine and pop that made Escapades so immediately visceral. Airy atmospheric textures serve as a scale-setting backdrop to the dexterous wallop of twin bass guitars and the precise punch of percussion, culminating in an epic display of technical ability, unbridled creativity, and the quirky charisma that The Omnific imbues in its craft.

Debuting alongside ‘Phat Mackerel’ is an accompanying music video for the track. Captured by director Jamie McVicker (Plini, I Built The Sky), the nostalgic visual accompaniment depicts The Omnific’s mission to defeat The Mack, with the trio’s quirky sense of humor and passion for retro gaming immediately shining through, even capping off with a boss fight against Phat Mackerel himself. As if he were Captain Ahab to Phat Mackerel’s Moby Dick, Fack concludes, “Born to be Matt Fackrell, forced to be Phat Mackerel. After a life filled with the name Phat Mackerel, it’s now time to eradicate the fish once and for all!”

On January 19, 2024, Swedish melodic power metal act METALITE will release their forthcoming studio album, Expedition One, and sees them unleash their most gigantic record to date!

Expedition One tells a fictitious story about life on our planet in the year 2055. The band’s upcoming magnum opus inspires with a wide range of diverse compositions and an intelligent sci-fi story that couldn’t be more topical. In addition, their fourth album offering manifests the musicians’ amazing artistic development. METALITE‘s visionary sci-fi trip is told over sixteen multi-faceted songs that combine the quintet’s many strengths: powerful and at the same time delicate guitar riffs and solos, anthemic melodies courtesy of vocalist Erica Ohlsson, driving rhythms and cleverly positioned keyboard parts. Expedition One was produced by guitarist Edwin Premberg, and was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen. The pre-sale of this early 2024 album highlight, one that belongs into every well-sorted power- and melodic metal record colection, is available via AFM Records at THIS LOCATION!

“In the past four or five years, our sound has evolved considerably,”Premberg recently said.“The quality of our production in particular has progressed considerably since our debut.”

Following the previously-released, first single, “Disciples Of The Stars” and a haunting, in-depth album trailer, today, METALITE are premiering a music video for the powerful anthem “Blazing Skies“! Join the Expedition One, and watch their official, new music video now premiering here:

”We are really excited to release this bombastic song together with this epic video made by Ted Lindén at Bullsize Production.” METALITE comments. “The song is truly a blast in a classic Metalite style and it feels that we have leveled up a few steps since last time. We hope everyone will like it and we looking forward to play it live!”

30 August – Cassiopeia – Berlin, DE (KTDF Warm Up)
31 August – 03 September Pumpenhuset / Kill-Town Death Fest IX – Copenhagen, DK

Formed in 2016, PHOBOPHLIC have steadily accumulated early releases in the shape of two demos, 2019’s Undimensioned Identities EP and a split release with Canada’s Sedimentum, all the while honing their craft out across the North American touring circuit – featuring live stints with Gatecreeper and Mutilatred respectively, as well as appearances at LDB Fest and Philadelphia Death Nexus – positioning themselves among US death metals most intriguing young acts.

Following their early productivity both in studio and on the road, PHOBOPHILIC pulled together to shape their debut album Enveloping Absurdity. Shunning the fantastical in favour of lived human reality, the band opted to center their gaze on what it is to exist. Drawing from French writers Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre as well as Germany’s Fredrich Nietzche’s strains of philosophical thought, Enveloping Absurdity is a meticulous vivisection of the philosophical self and purpose, as it asks fundamental questions of life’s true meaning.

PHOBOPHILIC’s formative promise is fully captured with a stellar production job that retains their to-the-bone intensity, but allows room for the underlying grandiosity of their compositions, thanks to Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The artwork was then licensed from Finnish illustrator Joonas Räsänen at EvM Art, as the band sought to marry Enveloping Absurdity’s overarching thematic ponderance with aesthetic totality.

On their debut long player PHOBOPHILIC rebel against notions of defeat and pessimism, in spite of the struggles that come with an overabundance of consciousness, to a profound embrace of that which ails as well as thrills. At the beating heart of Enveloping Absurdity’s sonic extremity is a victory of the self, not content with simply surviving, but choosing to live.

PHOBOPHILIC is:
Aaron Dudgeon –  guitars and vocals
Josh Poer – guitars
Christian Alm – bass
Vincent Tweten – drums

Exclusive Premiere for Finland: EXELERATE ‘Arrival’ Official Video

Having released their self-titled debut album in March this year to an unexpected success in the heavy metal scene, Danish epic power thrashers EXELERATE now release the official video for the opening track of the album, “Arrival”. A track that shows the band’s take on power/thrash metal in all its glory: melodic, classic and with balls!

Today Metal Shock Finland has a pleasure to premiere for Finland EXELERATE’s official video “Arrival”, enjoy it below.

EXELERATE is a power thrash metal band from Denmark. They play fast and aggressive riffs combined virtuose guitar solos and high-pitched vocals to create a new, yet familiar brand of metal. They quickly found strength in combining their individual music influences to create a mix of thrash, power and prog metal. It set the stage for the aggressive, but still approachable sound and the complexity of the compositions that all of their songs are made of.

They are inspired by bands like Megadeth, Anthrax, DIO and Dream Theater and make heavy use of both the traditional and the new in metal. They have a great focus on how their music is perceived in a live situation. “It’s in a live environment you get the chance to grab new listeners by the collar and show them how it’s done”, the lead singer Stefan Jensen comments. “They need to be enticed, inspired and spoiled until they can’t get enough. It is therefore important for us to give them something to latch on to, like a catchy melody, a fantastic solo or just a massive breakdown. It’s all a part of capturing the audience’s attention and keeping it”.

Exelerate is now in full swing and ready to release their debut album under the Danish label From The Vaults. The record consists of new and original material, designed to showcase just how metal should sound in 2023. It’s a concept work where every track tells a story about humankind’s tendencies towards both dominance and submission. The themes go from old religions to contemporary ideology worship and even further into the ultimate submission to our own mortality.

“To date, these are the most ambitious compositions I have ever been a part of writing, and I am incredibly proud of the end result”, Jensen says. “It has taken up many hours, days, weeks, years in the rehearsing studio, and the entire effort is realized in full on the album, I think”.

“Exelerate” was recorded with the help of, among others, Casper Augustenborg as the drum recording engineer and Io Brix Klarstrup, who pulls double duty as both the band’s bass player and recording engineer. The skilled hands of Marco Angioni (Angioni Studios) have made sure that Exelerate sounds better than ever, with a new massive sound that the listener easily can let their face melt away to.

The album’s artwork was made by the danish artist Steen Jensen who, with his airbrush and proclivities towards the dark and strange, has made a surreal visual universe inspired by the opening track on the album “Arrival”.

Lineup:
Mads Sørensen – guitars
Stefan Jensen – vocals, guitars
Io Klarstrup – bass
Stig Eilsøe-Madsen – drums
