Ex-Quiet Riot Guitarist Carlos Cavazo Explains Why He Refused to Take Part in Quiet Riot Documentary

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 3, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Carlos Cavazo, King Kobra, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to former Quiet Riot guitarist and now King Kobra guitarist Carlos Cavazo. In the chat Calvazo talked about King Kobra’s new album ‘We are Warriors’ (That will be released on Aug 11, 2023 via Cleopatra Records) as well as his time in Quiet Riot and Ratt

When asked how he got involved in King Kobra
“I’ve done a things with these guys before in the past I’ve done a few records with Paul Shortino obviously and I’ve done a lot of gigs with Carmine Appice here and there. We never did a record together but I’ve always admired Carmine  he’s a great drummer, great musician, great person to work with and Paul’s a great person to work with, I always enjoyed working with him. So they contacted me one day and asked me if I’d be interested in maybe doing a song or two on the record and I said yeah. And then they ended up wanting me to do the whole record so I ended up bringing some songs as well. They had about half the record written before I joined and I liked their material. So I quickly jumped on the opportunity. I figured they’re all nice guys, I’m sitting around not doing anything right now. I didn’t really even want to be in a band anymore or even tour anymore but  they kind of dragged me into it but uh we’ll see what happens.”

When asked about the musical direction of the new King Kobra Album ‘We are Warriors’
“It sort of like 80’s style Rock. Anthemic sort of choruses and a lot of guitar shredding here and there. Bluesy-based Edge and some of the songs. There’s a couple fast tracks like one or two Up Tempo and there’s double bass drumming  and  a lot of vocals and harmonies.”

When asked about the indecent of abandoning Kevin DuBrow in the hotel room in Hawaii at the end of the QR 3 tour in the late 80’s
“It was my fault indirectly, I didn’t mean to do this but we’re in the hotel and our tour manager came to me and he goes here’s your airline ticket everybody leaves at 12 noon. I go oh please can you get me home earlier I just want to get the hell out of here, can you get me an eight 8 A.M flight or 7am and he goes okay. So he switched me earlier and then everybody else got word of it and wanted to go home early too, we all wanted to get the hell out of there. And so everybody switched and I think he (Tour manager) switched Kevin but Kevin was passed out and he didn’t get the memo and he (tour manager) put his tickets under the door he didn’t get it and he was like maybe he had a hangover or something. He woke up and everybody was gone.  It wasn’t intentional, we wouldn’t do that to him even though we had a little falling out whatever, we’re not gonna leave somebody behind.”

When asked if he was asked to rejoin Quiet Riot
“They haven’t asked. That’s a political thing. I don’t think I would do it anyways. I don’t even want to be in a band anymore to be honest with you.  I’m still recording and writing songs with people  but as far as touring and being in a band I don’t know about that anymore I’m just kind of over as far as being in that band (Quiet Riot).  I mean I already jumped off that crazy train once I’m not gonna get on it again.”

When asked about his time in Ratt
“We toured in 2017, we did all kinds of festivals and stuff and then they decided to fire Warren (DeMartini) for whatever reason and I said I can’t do this without Warren.  I don’t want to be in a band with a revolving door of musicians like Quiet Riot,  I’m not going to do that again so I left. “

When asked if he participated in the making of the Quiet Riot Documentary
“I didn’t. I was out of the band and they called me up and it’s like  those guys kind of screwed me over a little bit and after that I was like you know what I didn’t want nothing to do with these people or this band anymore. I vowed to myself I’m not gonna ever do anything for that band and I haven’t for 20 years. People still think I’m in the Band. I’ve been out of the band for more than 20 years.  It’s like being married. Sometimes the marriage breaks up in a bad way and it’s a bad divorce and sometimes it’s an amicable divorce if you don’t know what you’re going to get. “

When asked if he would ever return to Quiet Riot
“If Frankie and Kevin were around today I would come back but without them I think it’s a no for me.”

When asked about Kevin DuBrow’s Character
“Kevin was a really nice guy. He really was a great person but he had a dark side that would come out occasionally and he had a substance abuse problem, I’m sure everybody knows that. I have to say that Frankie was his bad medicine when Frankie (Banali) wasn’t around Kevin (DuBrow) was a good guy but when Frankie would come around also he ‘d get evil you know. Well on that note I don’t think I’ve ever said that in an interview before.”

A  new King Kobra line-up of the band, perhaps their strongest gathering yet, is ready to announce the release of We Are Warriors, the band’s hard-hitting 7th studio album. KK founder Appice is joined once again by longtime bassist Johnny Rod, and vocalist Paul Shortino who welcome to the den the newest vipers, Quiet Riot guitarist Carlos Cavazo and former Dio member Rowan Robertson. With these two talented virtuosos aboard, We Are Warriors is bound to be one of the band’s most celebrated albums!

GRAVEYARD Announce New Album “6” + Release Video for New Single ‘Twice’

Swedish hard rock band GRAVEYARD have revealed details of their new album 6, that’s set to be released on September 29th via Nuclear Blast Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have also released the video for first single ‘Twice‘, their first new music in five years. 6 is easily identifiable as the most striking, original album of GRAVEYARD’s story so far. A gently lysergic blend of desolate guitars, simmering Hammond and lithe, nimble bass and drums, the Swedes demonstrate a lightness of touch that they have only hinted at in the past.

The band comments “Finally it’s here, ready to be harvested and enjoyed like the forbidden fruit in your backyard. We are very, very happy being able to share album number 6 with you all very soon. Peace out”

Pre-order the album and stream ‘Twice‘ now at: https://graveyard.bfan.link/6-album.ema

2. Twice
3. I Follow You
4. Breathe In Breathe Out
5. Sad Song
6. Just A Drop
7. Bright Lights
8. No Way Out
9. Rampant Fields

The album was recorded at Silence Studios and Don Pierre Studios and was produced by Don Ahlsterberg, who previously worked with the band on Graveyard (2007), Hisingen Blues (2011) and Lights Out (2012).

About GRAVEYARD

As enduring and authentic as an old school leather jacket, GRAVEYARD have long since mastered the art of rock’n’roll. Formed in 2006 in Gothenburg, Sweden, their shared passion for hard rock, psychedelia and the eternal bedrock of blues marked them out from the start. Led by vocalist/guitarist Joakim Nilsson, they opened their account with their now seminal self-titled Tee Pee Recordings debut in 2007, showcasing fiery chemistry and some wildly imaginative songwriting. Subsequently snapped up by the mighty Nuclear Blast Records, the band’s rise to prominence was swift and irresistible.

In 2008, guitarist Jonatan Ramm expanded the ranks, joining Nilsson, bassist Rikard Edlund and drummer Axel Sjöberg for the recording of second album Hisingen Blues. A critical smash that more than lived up to the hype, it established GRAVEYARD as rock’n’roll heavyweights. A thunderous, soul-stirring live band, with subtlety and swagger in equal amounts, they spent the next decade keeping fans of loose-limbed and earthy rock music in a near-constant state of rapture. From the rootsy clatter of 2012’s Lights Out to the magical, muscular grooves of 2018’s Peace (taking in the sepia-tinted folk doom of 2015’s Innocence & Decadence along the way), GRAVEYARD have made some of the most vital and vivid heavy rock of the 21st century.

Joakim Nilsson – vocals, guitar
Jonatan Ramm – vocals, guitar
Truls Mörck – vocals, bass
Oskar Bergenheim – drums

KHEMMIS & CONJURER Release Hate5six Full Set from ‘Deceiver’ North America MMXXIII Tour

In April 2023, Colorado doomed heavy metal outfit KHEMMIS embarked on their ‘Deceiver North America MMXXIII Tour‘ with UK sludge/post-metal heavyweights and labelmates CONJURER, and Canadian atmospheric grinders Wake. The tour package – along with Philadelphia natives SUNBURSTER – teamed up with videographer/archivist Sunny Singh of Hate5six to enshrine the May 6th performances at Underground Arts in Philadelphia. Those videos are now available on the Hate5Six YouTube Channel.

In 2023, KHEMMIS released the two-song EP Where The Cold Wind Blows. The release, available digitally as well as on a limited edition 7”, follows the critically-acclaimed 2021 album Deceiver.CONJURER was also on the road in support of their latest offering, 2022’s Pathos.

Hate5Six has become a staple in the hardcore scene, documenting bands big and small in all stages of their perspective career. A political statement, the platform allows global fans to experience live music that they may not be able to witness in person.

The sets documented on May 6th were filmed and edited by Sunny and each band’s performance was tracked by KHEMMIS front-of-house Aaron Kelly, who also mixed their headlining set. CONJURER, WAKE, and SUNBURSTER performances were mixed by Bryan Batiste.

ABOUT KHEMMIS:

Restlessly awakening from the depths of a feverish slumber, doomed heavy metal masters KHEMMIS return to reveal their fourth full-length studio album, Deceiver, arriving via Nuclear Blast Records in November 2021. Six tracks of desolate, soul-awakening heaviness encapsulate a project that has been nearly three years in the making. With a title that reflects the internal struggles that many of us battle in our daily lives, Deceiver is a ferociously honest and appetizingly raw piece of musical artistry.

While the lyrical themes of Deceiver, sorrow, pain, and longing for hope, will no doubt be familiar to longtime fans, these six songs display a broader collection of musical influences than on any other KHEMMIS record to date. “It being our 4th album, especially after the transition between the last two albums, it felt really freeing. We felt that we could really do anything on this record,” explains drummer Zach Coleman. “There’s a lot here that we’ve never done before,” adds Pendergast. “In some areas it gets darkly psychedelic. I think we found a cool way to mutate things using transitions that feel really natural. There is a subtle symmetry between the first and last songs which is one of the things that makes listening to the full album a satisfying holistic experience. It builds from almost nothing, becomes very dark, and then you slowly crawl out of that lowest circle of hell.”

KHEMMIS’ Deceiver is a beautiful, musically ambitious journey from beginning to end drenched in impassioned melody and complex, unrestrained variations of sonic savagery adorned with chilling, intensely tragic cover art by frequent collaborator Sam Turner.

KHEMMIS is:
Ben Hutcherson | Guitar & Vocals
Phil Pendergast | Vocals & Guitar
Zach Coleman | Drums
Dave Small | Bass

About CONJURER:

Páthos is not an album for the half-hearted or faint-hearted. Elements of SUMAC, GOJIRA, old MASTODON, and OATHBREAKER, the new record is a multi-layered beast – sludge, death, doom, black metal, and hardcore influences clash and collide throughout, all masterfully finished by Will Putney’s exquisite mix and master.

The fifty-minute runtime of Páthos is not without its moments of the sublime, with post-metal nods to CONJURER and Pijn’s acclaimed Curse These Metal Hands project throughout. That a band can be at once so triumphantly beautiful and gut-punchingly heavy is a testament to CONJURER’s quality and a surefire sign of their future longevity at the top of Britain’s heavy music scene.

CONJURER are:
Brady Deeprose | guitars, vocals
Dan Nightingale | guitars, vocals
Conor Marshall | bass
Noah See | drums

Brazilian death metal unit CRYPTA are preparing to release their second beast of an album, Shades of Sorrow, this Friday, August 4, 2023, by unleashing another new single, entitled “The Other Side of Anger”! Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto (drums) and Fernanda Lira (vocals), and now featuring guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jessica di Falchi, CRYPTA once again stay true to the unique sound introduced on their first full-length, blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements on Shades of Sorrow.

Outstanding death metal drumming on “The Other Side of Anger” sets the scene for threatening vocals, evoking an uncontrollable storm. The new single comes with a high-quality studio video. With millions of video views and performances at the famous Wacken Open Air among other premium festivals, the band will add another highlight when supporting Ghost at two shows later this year.

Fernanda Lira on “The Other Side of Anger”:
“With the third single we wanted to show one more side of the album! ‘Lord of Ruins’ brought the melodies that permeate the whole record, ‘Trial of Traitors’ has the aggressiveness and a fast pace and with ‘The Other Side of Anger’, we wanted to show the more gloomy, slow paced side of the record!”

Watch below the Official Studio Video for “The Other Side of Anger”

It is clear that the talented women of CRYPTA have created another impressive masterpiece with Shades of Sorrow, presenting the very best of their technical ability and songwriting skills on this 13-track onslaught. Shades of Sorrow was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at 33 Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.

Fernanda Lira (bass, vocals) on Shades of Sorrow:
“Shades of Sorrow is a semi-concept album which describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It’s a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives’ challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey.”

Pre-order the hard-hitting Shades of Sorrow NOW

As a raging monster on its own, Shades of Sorrow begins with the instrumental piano intro track “The Aftermath”, creating an ominous atmosphere before “Dark Clouds” kicks straight off with feral growls to drop jaws, showcasing the full extent of the band’s striking interplay from the very first second. “Poisonous Apathy” features electrifying guitar sounds and prominent hard-hitting bass, creeping into the listener’s brain. Ruthless “The Outsider” unleashes a massive drum attack and another ferocity of coals, before it fades into a softer outro that melts seamlessly into the intro of “Stronghold”, one of the slower and more melodic tracks on the album. The dark and deep instrumental piano interlude “The Limbo” acts as a breather. Following the eerie, haunting “Lullaby for the Forsaken” comes “Agents of Chaos”, showcasing the undeniable talent of the band with its many changes. Relentless death metal tracks “Lift the Blindfold” and “Lord of Ruins” offer the last dose of true CRYPTA sound, leaving the listener breathless before the beautiful instrumental outro “The Closure” wraps the album up.

GORY BLISTER Explore Soul-Soaking Hopeless Fear in New Music Video & Single ‘Relentless Fear’

Technical death metal veterans GORY BLISTER just premiered a new music video and single entitled “Relentless Fear“. This is the second music video & single taken from their upcoming seventh full-length album entitled Reborn from Hatred which will be released on September 8, 2023 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced by Raff Sangiorgio and Gianluca D’andria, mixed by Ricardo Borges (Sepultura, Kreator, Carcass), and mastered by Peter Brussee (Steve Vai, Yingwie Malmsteen, Michael Bolton), and the music video was directed by Maurizio Del Piccolo.

“Embark on a mesmerizing odyssey through the depths of creativity as we unveil the heart and soul of our artistic process. Feel the magic of our music as it takes flight, intertwining emotions, melodies, and the cherished connections with our band and loved ones” says lead guitarist Raff Sangiorgio.

The new album by Gory Blister is entitled Reborn from Hatred. The brutally-technical full-length release contains eleven masterful songs, with artwork by Augusto Peixoto of Iron Doom Design, and it is scheduled for release on September 8, 2023. The music on the album screams for us to go hard, all the way, face-first into the den of our demons so we can wear their blood on our faces like war paint. The guitars on this record, while scorching, are patterned with such complexity, that there is a raucous intricacy to what is delivered as delicious and violent. The drum licks come in hurricanes of 4/4 and mixed meter time signatures, with the bass replacing our own pounding hearts. This is personal. Gory Blister are not just playing music, but providing our soundtrack as we walk through the fire. There’s a zombie in the funhouse, and we’re going in with baseball bats. There’s a rabid jackal loose in the gift shop, and we’re going in with a net. There’s a circus clown slaughtering people in the freak tent, and we’re going in with machetes, broadswords, and Mineral Mountain Battle Hatchets. The band never tells us to play nice, and like a muse inspires artists to create, Gory Blister shows us the way retool the darkness.
