W.E.B. Release ‘Colosseum’ Music Video, Filmed in Athens

Hailing from historic Athens, Greece, W.E.B. loosed their Metal Blade debut album Colosseum upon the world in November of 2021. Today, the band is proud to release a new music video for the title track that highlights the band’s hometown headlining show in Athens, Greece. Watch now on YouTube, below.

When asked for a comment, the band offered: “W.E.B.’s philosophy was always about live performance. Not only do we love playing live but, we want the audience to experience our music with us. Our headline concert in our hometown, Athens – Greece was a perfect opportunity for us to have a full production live show and make a music video out of it to give you what W.E.B. is really all about when it comes to live gigs. “Colosseum” is one of our most intense songs, lyrically inspired by the story of Spartacus. To us, this song always meant a lot, thus it was the title track of our 2021 full length album all the way from the moment it was composed.“

About W.E.B.
Since forming in 2002, Greece’s W.E.B. have steadily forged a path to becoming one of the premier European symphonic extreme metal bands expressing darkness and death through adrenaline and poetry. An output that’s both candid and theatrical, W.E.B. is here to move you, provoke you, and invite you on a journey through ravendark and starless nights. With four albums already under their collective belt, 2021’s fifth full-length, Colosseum, which was recorded, mixed, and mastered in Sound Abuse Production Studio in Athens by Psychon and produced by the band’s own Sakis Prekas, is inarguably the band’s greatest and most direct work to date. Combining the brutal with the catchy and drenching it in orchestrations that only serve to expand its epic scale, Colosseum is a thrilling, gripping listen with each of its nine tracks playing an important part in the album as a whole, making it clear that W.E.B. stands toe-to-toe with anyone in their genre.

With Colosseum, the band welcomes two new members: drummer Nikitas Mandolas, who joined following the recording of 2017’s Tartarus and whose playing is perfectly suited to the music W.E.B. creates, and bassist/vocalist Hel Pyre. “Apart from the great lyrics and the perfect bass performance, she offered her brutal and clean vocals on many parts of the album, leaving her own mark of fire. This is a completely new element for W.E.B. that really gave a unique character to the material.“

In titling Colosseum, W.E.B. draw comparisons with the past and present, in typically brutal style. “The Colosseum was the famous gigantic arena in Rome to give the people ‘food and spectacle,’ whereas what it truly did was to quench the mob’s thirst for blood and violence and keep their minds away from thinking; kind of an ancient TV-brainwash machine,” notes Sakis. “People nowadays seem to be thirsty for blood more than ever. They seek violence in almost everything. You can see it in social media, in the streets – even a simple fight between kids in a schoolyard attracts the other kids, not to separate but to watch. Humans miss the Colosseum and what it gave to their violent nature, even though they will never admit it. The title Colosseum is the irony of giving them what they secretly desire. Maybe then they will start to understand what they see in their mirror and hopefully it will bother them.“

TESTAMENT & NUCLEAR BLAST – A Match Made in Hell

Nuclear Blast is proud to announce that the complete TESTAMENT catalog has been acquired and the band signed for an additional 3 albums in the future! The signing took place before the band’s fiery performance at Hellfest this past weekend. Fans will now be able to listen to the band’s seminal albums The Legacy and The New Order on the DSP of their choice!

Chuck Billy states, “After a long history of making music and TESTAMENT teaming up with Nuclear Blast in 2008 with The Formation of Damnation to the current release Titans of Creation, we have taken it to the next level and have reclaimed our 6 albums from Atlantic Records and have delivered them to Nuclear Blast to be re-released. Along with the Atlantic catalog, TESTAMENT will sign a new 3-album deal with NB worldwide. We are so grateful to be with the Best Heavy Metal label in the world that will spread TESTAMENT’s Legacy.”

Eric Peterson comments, “We signed with NB back in 2008 and it’d been a perfect fit for us ever since then. Incidentally, our older catalog with Atlantic Records – The Legacy, The New Order, Practice What You Preach, Souls of Black, The Ritual, and Low – have returned to us and we feel it’s a great new start to have NB Release these albums again with some new unreleased artwork, photos, etc. Also, we will be signing a new three-album deal with them! So the future for Metal is looking very, very bright! Cheers!”

Tommy Jones Nuclear Blast U.S. Label Manager adds:
“One of my favorite guitars as a kid was my dark red Ibanez Saber (540S) with the wizard neck. I purchased that guitar to sound like Alex Skolnick who played that model and color back in the day. So all these years later to be signing those OG, genre-defining TESTAMENT albums that were such an early influence like The New Order, Practice What You Preach, and Souls of Black, as well as new TESTAMENT albums to Nuclear Blast, is completing a full circle for me. Truly an ‘If the 15-year-old me could see this’ type of moment. It’s time to continue ‘The Legacy’ with Nuclear Blast!”

About BLACKBRIAR:

“Some say that there is beauty in darkness – terrifying visitors, worlds far gone, gothic romances, bone-chilling legends, sin-eaters, burning hearts frozen in time, songs with a misleading voice, and a truthful whisper. This and so much more for you to discover on A Dark Euphony.” Such are the words of vocalist Zora Cock about the band’s upcoming sophomore album, set to release in fall 2023 on Nuclear Blast Records. A telling sign coming from a band who has reveled in gothic beauty and metallic darkness since their onset, spanning three EPs and a full-length album, along with long-time collaborator Joost van den Broek.

Formed in 2012 by Zora Cock, René Boxem, Bart Winters, and Frank Akkerman, they crafted their first single in 2014 with ‘Ready to Kill,’ but it was 2015’s second single ‘Until Eternity‘ that truly propelled them into the scene.  A sweeping track with an equally compelling and beautiful video, it continues to draw many to the act with over 20 million views since its debut. Taking advantage of the growing buzz surrounding the band, they independently recorded and released their first EP, Fractured Fairytales, as well as acquiring a second guitarist in Robin Koezen. This EP layed down an impressive foundation for the band’s ethereal and breathtaking sound and  brought about new opportunities for the act, including tour dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and more, where the band played alongside EPICA, HALESTORM, IN THIS MOMENT, DELAIN and MaYan.

To keep moving ahead with full control of their creative ideals, the band successfully crowdfunded their follow-up EP, We’d Rather Burn, and brought it to life in October 2018. This EP would be the first time the band worked alongside esteemed producer Joost van den Broek to arrange and produce the effort, and this fruitful collaboration allowed BLACKBRIAR’s whimsical and enigmatic sound to reach new sonic heights.  Released the same day as their self-made video for ‘I’d Rather Burn,’ this EP showcased a stronger sense of dreamy atmosphere and brought listeners beautifully grim tales of witches, banshees, and sea sirens.  In the time following, keyboardist Ruben Wijga (ex-Re-Vamp) took a larger role within the band and began playing shows, after being involved in the songwriting process since Fractured Fairytales.

A busy 2019 followed, the band released a haunting single in May entitled ‘Snow White and Rose Red.’  A duet with Ulli Perhonen, their take on the Grimm’s fairytale featured striking cinematic visuals to accompany the spellbinding track. Continuing to dig deeper into fairytale realms, BLACKBRIAR closed the year with their third EP, Our Mortal Remains.  Ever-sharpening their intoxicating blend of storytelling and breathtaking musicianship, the EP brought about new live exposures for the act as well.  Small, sold out tours with EPICA in 2019 and 2020, as well as a sold out opening for DELAIN’s Apocalypse & Chill release show in Utrecht followed, with more future plans then being put on hold due to COVID-19.

Championing their continued independence, which included everything from songwriting, maintaining their web presence, overseeing merch, as well as shooting and producing their own videos and photos, BLACKBRIAR reached out to their ever-growing and loyal fanbase for assistance to make their full-length album a reality in 2020. Fans fervently heeded the call, reaching the € 25,000 goal in under 24 hours and ending with a total of € 70,000 and achieving all five stretch goals.  An impressive accomplishment for an independent act, which also showcases a strong internet presence with over 230,000 YouTube subscribers and 56.5 million channel views as well as 37.9 million Spotify streams and 275,000 monthly streamers on the platform.

Entering 2021, the band relinquished a bit of control in signing exclusively with Doomstar Bookings to help properly support their highly anticipated first full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, which released in April.  Once again recorded with renowned producer Joost van den Broek (EPICA, AYREON, POWERWOLF) at Sandlane Recording Facilities, this release showcased the band’s continued evolution into masterfully dark gothic storytelling and theatrical aesthetics that entice you into a deadly yet spellbinding musical paradise. On the live front, launching into success with six sold out Dutch club shows, they later extended into more European territories such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the Czech Republic as the band moved into 2022.

Despite a very successful 2021, the band still hungered for more, unleashing their latest single, ‘Fairy of the Bog‘ in December.  A song about ‘het meisje van Yde’ (Yde girl), it’s a mixture of folklore, myth, and ancient local history wrapped into a more mystical and magical package that showcases what BLACKBRIAR does best. Due to winning ‘Drents Talent Award Culture 2021’ from ‘Stichting Kunst & Cultuur,’ BLACKBRIAR performed ‘I’d Rather Burn’ live on television together with the Dutch ‘Noordpool Orchestra in early 2022. In April, the band parted ways with founding member and bassist Frank Akkerman. Not a band to slow down, they welcomed Siebe Sol Sijpkens from The Netherlands as their new bassist.  A happy and energetic performer with a lifetime of global performances, he is a welcome addition to the act as they continue to strive forward.

With their vision looking firmly into the future, with a major label behind them, they set their sights on 2023 to conjure their most deadly siren song yet.  The band previously released the song ‘Crimson Faces‘ to celebrate their partnership with Nuclear Blast Records, and now the world eagerly awaits the release of A Dark Euphony this fall. Set to contain 10 new original songs as well as a bonus track, they recently released their first single from it with ‘My Soul’s Demise.’ According to Zora, “We’ve had the pleasure of working with producer and musical genius Joost van den Broek, and we gave it our all to write this record and feel that this is our most complete, personal, and mature album to date.” With this in mind, the band launched a preorder campaign in April for the release, full of unique perks, which has been quite successful already. They have also been preparing on the road, with festival shows Wave Gotik Treffen, SummerBreeze, and Rock the Lakes in 2023, as well as being a special guest on CHARLOTTE WESSELS’s Club Tour.

With accolades behind them, such as being nominated three times for ‘Best Artist’ in EuroSonic/Noorderslag‘s Popgala Noord (2018, 2020, 2022), and continued fan support with current monthly streaming totals on YouTube and Spotify near 1.5 million streams, the world is primed and ready for a spectacular journey into darkness and beauty.

SIFTING Drop New Music Video & Single ‘Silent Acquiescence’

Progressive thrash metal band SIFTING (Los Angeles, USA) has just released a shredding new music video & single entitled “Silent Acquiescence“. The music video was directed by two-time Emmy Award winner Eduardo Osuna Gil. The single was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist). In this groundbreaking new single, Sifting has once again defied the boundaries of conventional music, pushing the genre of progressive metal to unfathomable heights of intensity, dexterity, and complexity…

Watch the new “Silent Acquiescence” music video by SIFTING via YouTube, and stream the single on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music at this location

“This is a song that we’ve been working on since before Covid even was a thing. You could say this song evolved with us throughout the pandemic, because the way it started was different from the finished product” says lead vocalist and guitarist Eduardo Osuna Gil. “with the music video for this song, we wanted to do something different, by taking on more serious topics that are personal to the four of us and poke a bit more fun at each other as well as the events that lead to it. We wore red objects to represent the blood (our own blood through centuries), that has been spilled for the better cause. Many of us in the world are given the “Choice” and “rights” to speak our mind and vote but that isn’t really what’s happening. It’s a facade, a masquerade, a game in which even if you think you are in control you are not. We have corrupt millionaires making those choices for us hence our voice is silenced. We are here to be controversial, to make a stand. It’s not about left or right, blue or red but about humanism and our rights. Rights to be human and to be alive. We each come from places where we have seen empires fall, corrupt militaries, police brutality and the rich abuse the poor. We are part of the poor and it’s all being masqueraded with facades of TikTok trends, extremist newscasts, lack of education, and the government wanting to keep us ignorant.” Guitarist Mo La Mastro adds, “It was super chill working with Eduardo as the video director, and the fact that he’s a member of the band probably added to that!. He was super-efficient and very concise about how each scene ought to be filmed, which made the whole process go super smoothly.”

“Silent Acquiescence” showcases Sifting’s unrivaled musical dexterity as they seamlessly blend intricate melodies with thunderous rhythms. From the first note, the band’s technical prowess is evident, intertwining lightning-fast riffs with mind-bending time signatures. The relentless assault of Joey Aguirre (drums) and Wins Jarquin (bass) forms a foundation of pure sonic devastation, while the searing dual-solos from guitarists Eduardo Gil and Mo La Mastro soar with virtuosic brilliance. But it is the vocals that truly captivate and elevate “Silent Acquiescence” to new heights. The lead singer’s powerful and versatile voice takes center stage, delivering a mesmerizing performance that ranges from haunting melodies to fierce expressions of raw emotion. “Silent Acquiescence” is a testament to Sifting’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre. Their unique blend of progressive elements with thrash metal sensibilities creates a sonic landscape that is both aggressive and thought-provoking. This single serves as a glimpse into the band’s artistic evolution and sets the stage for their imminent dominance in the metal scene. Sifting proves once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of progressive thrash metal. Surrender yourself to the immersive experience and let the music consume you, for Sifting has arrived, and they are ready to conquer all in their path.

VEXED Release Dynamic Third Single + Official Music Video ‘Trauma Euphoria’

UK alt-metal band VEXED have revealed their third new single, the dynamic “Trauma Euphoria”, together with an official music video! This Friday, the fast-rising act will drop their aggressive new offering, Negative Energy – the successor to their disturbingly honest, highly-lauded debut, Culling Culture.

Standout track “Trauma Euphoria” features some of the most impressive guitar work on the new album – heavier than ever before. Gifted lead vocalist Megan Targett’s brutal growls and beautiful, crystal clear clean vocals create an impactful contrast, captivating the listener.

Megan Targett on “Trauma Euphoria”:
“Experiencing a traumatic event or grieving a major loss comes with a myriad of feelings. Denial, depression, anger and sadness are the most common ones you hear about. However, there is one that I’ve found nobody speaks of; Euphoria. Small moments of time where you forget that you’re grieving and slip back into the person you were before the event. It’s like a euphoric experience that’s heightened by the fact your brain hasn’t felt any hit of dopamine in such a long time.

However, that sudden realization when you remember the trauma and snap out of the high has you crashing 10X harder. Feelings of guilt and shame take over and you fall deeper into the dark depths of your depression and grief. This dark place becomes a safe space in your mind, as leaving it can cause more pain and isn’t worth the fall. You can become addicted to suffering and this song is a love letter to it.”

Negative Energy achieves pinnacle musicianship and gripping, profound and brave lyricism. Instead of opting for forced positivity like many of their contemporaries, the Hertfordshire three-piece channel every ounce of their Negative Energy into these 13 tracks – recharging themselves for an uphill battle.

The band states:
“We are so proud to present to you our second album. Since our first release, we have each endured traumatic experiences, surrounded by death, betrayal, pain and grief.  In order to find any strength, we first had to accept that we weren’t okay, then take our trauma and face it head on, sharing our vulnerability, fears and weaknesses.  Instead of forcing ourselves to try and be positive we put all our negative energy into the album in order to begin our own repair and to overcome.”

Pre-order the devastatingly heavy Negative Energy NOW

Haunting intro track “PTSD” sets a stage of dread for the carnage to come, building up to the all-consuming, panic-stricken lead riff of crushing single “Anti-Fetish”. Blistering with disorderly intensity, VEXED confront the constant comparisons and ungrounded hate that bands receive. “We don’t talk about it” – featuring pitch-shifted verses emulating a disguised voice – explores childhood trauma and survivor’s guilt. “Panic attack” centers on mental health issues, representing terror and frustration through heavy riffs and grooving vocals. Furious “Lay down your flowers” (feat. Alpha Wolf vocalist Lochie Keogh) showcases extreme vocals and bombarding drums, while disturbingly groovy following track “There’s no place like home” draws inspiration from ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The unbelievably heavy “Extremist” gets straight to the point, kicking off with fast and demanding vocal rhythms, while “Default”, on the other hand, displays multifaceted lead singer-to-watch Megan Targett’s high-soaring clean vocals juxtaposed against her menacing deep growls. The album’s most emotional offering, “It’s Not The End”, serves as a magnificent dedication to a loved one passing away while manifesting their legacy, before sliding into instrumental interlude “DMT” – cradled by lo-fi beats with hints of 808, delivered in fresh VEXED style. Intense album finale “Nepotism” wraps up Negative Energy with a knot of rage before slowly fading out into darkness. Negative Energy proves itself as a stunning, devastating musical conduit – ventilating the band’s pain-stricken burdens and breathing life into their fresh approach, delivered with a vengeance.

Negative Energy Tracklisting:
1. PTSD
2. Anti-Fetish
3. We don’t talk about it
4. X my ❤ (Hope to die)
5. Panic attack
6. Lay down your flowers
7. There’s no place like home
8. Extremist
9. Default
10. Trauma Euphoria
11. It’s not the end
12. DMT
13. Nepotism
