Modern alternative metal outfit VOLUCRINE hailing from Kouvola, Finland have released a new single “Old Friend” from their long-awaited new album, which will be released later this year.

“The old friend in the title by no means describes the best friend from your childhood, but a difficult mental predicament that you thought you had already overcome” – says the band’s singer and songwriter Jupe Velin.

“Everyone lives with past traumas, but to properly process them, you need to find the correct tools. If left untreated, they will slowly become that ‘old friend’ whose next visit is difficult to predict.” Velin continues.

After their previous album, “Skywards” (2019), the band have taken a bold step towards a more modern and heavier sound.

ENVY OF NONE Unveil Animated Video for ‘That Was Then’, New EP Out Now

In celebration of the release of their new EP ‘That Was Then, This Is Now’, ENVY OF NONE have revealed a beautiful and striking new video. Recalling the idea of retro Pop Art genius Roy Lichtenstein seen through the lens of a psychedelic graphic novel in the beautiful clip’s vibrant and stylistic imagery.

Created by Olivier Boscovitch (YouTube / Instagram), who has previously worked with David Guetta, the artist was handpicked by Andy Curran, to create a video that was inspired by Maiah Wynne’s lyrics representing both a metaphorical and literal chase.

LISTEN / ORDER HERE – https://EnvyOfNone.lnk.to/TWTTIN

Andy Curran comments:

The video was created by the super talented Olivier Boscovitch. I discovered some of his work online and reached out to him and he loved the song ‘That Was Then’. He was inspired by the dark and haunting lyrics that Maiah wrote for the song. He pitched the concept of a girl riding a chopper and travelling through a fictional trippy landscape , basically her life, while being chased by a bad assed villain in a muscle car. The  driver  of the car represents the person in our lives that we’re getting away from. Olivier’s amazing graphics are a testament to his unique creativity, we’re very lucky to be working with him.

He continues:

I’m super proud of the new song, Ty Dennis played a killer drum track that breathed new life into the song and we’re very grateful that Alex reached out to him. I think the track itself shows a real growth for Envy of None. It’s like we’ve hit out stride creatively and a nice marker to punctuate that our first record was not a one and done thing. It really opened the floodgates for us writing wise and we’re well on our way to a 2nd record.

‘That Was Then, This Is Now’ track listing:

1 – Lethe River
2 – You’ll Be Sorry
3 – Dog’s Life (Remix)
4 – Dumb (Der Dummkopf Remix)
5 – That Was Then

The all-star line up of Alex Lifeson , Andy Curran, Maiah Wynne and Alf Annibalini, continue their exponential growth of their trippy, edgy atmospheric sound that took the world by surprise. The new EP is made up of very adventurous tracks that consist of remixes of ‘Dumb’ and ‘Dog’s Life’. Alongside ‘Lethe River’ and ‘You’ll Be Sorry’ only previously released on the deluxe edition of their debut record.

Following these, the EP culminates with a newly recorded track ‘That Was Then’. The song undulates with progressive dexterity and is a perfect example of the unbound writing ability this incredible band showcase.

All tracks were written, arranged, recorded and produced by Envy of None.

‘That Was Then, This Is Now’ remains in canon with the band’s sound of their eponymous debut whilst also pushing the boundaries and is a fantastic prologue to the next chapter of Envy of None’s story as the band have been in the studio creating new music and remixes.

An essential addition to their repertoire.

STATE OF DECEIT Unleash New Music Video & Single ‘Stalked by Daemons, Guarded by Angels’

STATE OF DECEIT is a metalcore, thrash and groove band from South Wales (UK), whose music sticks a middle finger straight into the mug of the mainstream, and they just premiered a new music video and single entitled “Stalked by Daemons, Guarded by Angels“. The band have also announced the availability of pre-orders for their upcoming full-length album Stalked by Daemons which is scheduled to be released on October 13, 2023 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tim Hamill (Anterior) at Sonic One Studio, and the music video was directed by Unit 15 Productions.

Watch the new “Stalked by Daemons, Guarded by Angels” music video via YouTube, and stream the single on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music and more at this location

“The title track is such a damn bouncer, it had to be a performance vid of us playing it the way we do every week in rehearsals,” says rhythm guitarist Jonathan Russell. “The lyrical theme is serious though, about unfortunate people who are trapped as sex workers. They need lots of hope, support, and strength to help break free. The location kinda represents their environment which is falling down around us. There’s badass graffiti and the darkness is drawing in, it’s perfect place to play some heavy stuff. Working with Drew from Unit 15 Productions was great, he kept us going as the light was fading and it eventually went pitch black. We had to move all the gear back to the van after the shoot, 100m of traversing this bombed out site with just phone torches and the hope we didn’t leave any gear behind!” Lead vocalist Pete Scammell continues, “We thought that the abandoned location really brought the song to life. A gymnasium, which was once perfect, then pulled apart and scorn through time. It was definitely appropriate to do the video there because the amount of takes made it was a real workout. Our drummer Matt did well over 30,000 steps during the session and we all felt like we ran a marathon afterwards.” Drummer Matthew Toner adds “It is true… I did over 30,000 steps that day and then I ate a load of McDonalds after to celebrate (and recuperate)!”

Cover Art by Piere-Alain Durand

The new album by State of Deceit is entitled Stalked by Daemons. The riveting full-length release contains ten brutal songs, and it is scheduled for release on October 13, 2023. Stalked by Daemons delivers the best of all metalcore, thrash, and groove, often in stylistic antithesis that is startling and ultimately satisfying. The growl vocal is vicious just as the traditional, rich harmonies of the chorus-work are heartfelt and bold. The intricate rhythm tracks are fascinating mosaics, always evolving in shape and color, and the blistering lead guitar solos paint pictures that leave scars, the aesthetic kind, like treasured ink we pattern into the flesh. State of Deceit are the epitome of rock at its core, at its roots. Metal artists are often social mysteries, but that is finally beside the point. Sometimes, they start social trends for the sake of leading the pack or demonstrating to us our own ironies, but in the end, all of that is just pomp and circumstance. Rock is about making tile. Rock is about the basement and the garage, and the idea that hard practice can make you a superstar. State of Deceit offer us a distinct, instrumental layering technique as the songs on Stalked by Daemons bring us into their process and into their world brick by brick! Stalked by Daemons artwork and layout by Pierre-Alain D. of 3mmi Design.

Steffen Weigand, exceptional drummer of instrumental heavy psych pioneers MY SLEEPING KARMA, has passed away yesterday morning. He lost his battle with a rare kind of cancer.

The four-piece band, of which Weigand was a founding member, posted the following, sad statement on their socials:

“Dear MSK Family,

we are devastated to inform you that our brother Steffen has passed away this morning surrounded by his loved ones. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family.

We are heartbroken and have no more words right now.”

Alongside his band-family members, guitarist Seppi, bassist Matte Vandeven and soundboardist Norman Mehren, Steffen played an essential role as one of the most influential and crucial artists in the world of heavy psychedelia. His progressive drum style, from the band’s self-titled debut in 2006 through their heart-melting, 2022 album Atma, shaped an entire genre.

MY SLEEPING KARMA‘s A&R at Napalm Records, Sebastian Münch, comments on behalf of the record label and entire team behind the band: “We are deeply saddened to learn that Steffen Weigand, drummer of our band My Sleeping Karma passed away yesterday. Steffen was a wonderful person, friend and drumming genius. We will miss him immensely. We send our thoughts and deepest condolences to his family, band members and loved ones.“
