Are you ready to rock? Do you want a good time? Do you want to get high?
If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then the undisputed kings of balls-out rock’n’roll are back to provide maximum satisfaction. An elite, three-man squad, dedicated to the noble art of riffs, melodies and life-affirming rock anthems, DANKO JONES are ready to serve up all the Electric Sounds you could possibly need!

September 15, 2023 will see the Canadian trio release their hotly-anticipated, eleventh studio album, entitled Electric Sounds, via AFM Records. Following a previously-released, first album appetizer, “Guess Who’s Back”, today, DANKO JONES are premiering their new single, the muscular new wave strut of “Good Time“, along a hilarious karaoke-themed music video featuring a guest appearance by Inge Johansson (currently in Gatuplan, previously of Against Me! and International Noise Conspiracy)! The clip was directed by Philip Hovensjö at Horseboy (Yung Lean, Martin Garrix, Victor Leksell and many more).

As the new DANKO JONES track proves, Electric Sounds promises to have the instant sound and feel of a classic. Hands down, with DANKO JONES, you are going to have a good time, rock as hard as you can, always at full volume, while Electric Sounds is a deceptively diverse affair. No band has ever sounded more ready to hit the road than the pumped-up threesome showcased on a hell-for-leather rager that is “Good Time” (now available on all digital services at THIS LOCATION)! Danko confirms: “Good Time is the song you need to hear when you’re not ready to throw in the towel. It also rocks very very very hard and has a lot of swear words.”

Have a good time and watch the new DANKO JONES clip, feat. Inge Johansson, HERE:

Formed in Toronto in 1996, DANKO JONES have seen and done just about everything over the last quarter of a century. Powered by a DIY punk rock spirit, and inspired by the good, great and grotesque of electrified rock ‘n’ roll, they have steadily built a colossal international fan base and become one of the most acclaimed live bands around, embraced by everyone from mainstream radio-rock fans to diehard metalheads. Along the way, they have released ten widely praised studio albums, generating a peerless repertoire of fists-in-the-air crowd-pleasers into the bargain.

From the spiky blues of 2002’s Born A Lion and the crazed power-pop of its follow-up We Sweat Blood (2003), to the priapic perfection of 2010’s Below The Belt, the band’s knack for hitting rock’s sweet spot has never wavered. Over the last decade, DANKO JONES have visibly moved up a few gears. Since frontman Danko and bassist JC joined forced with drummer Rich Knox, the band’s creative fire has blazed more brightly than ever. A succession of all-killer, no-filler albums – Fire Music, Wild Cat, A Rock Supreme, Power Trio – has led to even more gung-ho touring and unapologetic service to the rock cause. With Electric Sounds, Toronto’s archbishops of amplification prove that even a global pandemic couldn’t stop DANKO JONES.

When charismatic frontman Danko recaps the past few years, he says “not working for two years really felt like touring rock bands were being put out to pasture. But I guess that only made us try harder. We were still able to record and release an album during the pandemic (Power Trio, 2021). We toured as soon as we were allowed. Now that Electric Sounds is getting released, it doesn’t feel like we missed a beat. During the pandemic, we moved away from each other. JC lives in Finland and Rich lives in Prince Edward Island. So the writing for this band has changed. We used to bash out ideas in our rehearsal place, day after day, but it’s more about sending files back and forth now. However, last summer, while on tour, we did manage to jam out ideas in a rehearsal room in Berlin for a few days.”

Armed with yet another stone cold classic, DANKO JONES will launch themselves into 2023 like men on a renewed mission to rock the living shit-lights out of anyone and everyone that wants to join the party. After 27 years of active service, the trio’s commitment and intensity continues to grow, and their popularity and prominence continues to follow an upward route.

“I’d like to think Electric Sounds falls in line with all our previous albums,” says Danko. “Over the years, we’ve carved out a sound and we’re sticking to it. But if you were to zoom in and compare it to other albums, I’d like to think it’s a bit faster than our other albums. Initially, I wanted all the songs to sound like our song, Cadillac – plodding, mid-tempo, heavy, and to the point. Our songs are usually about rocking, wanting to rock, enjoying life while rocking, and sometimes I’ll sing about a woman. You can expect zero surprises!”

  2. Good Time
  3. Electric Sounds

BLINDSTONE to Release New Album “Scars To Remember” in August

BLINDSTONE are proud to announce the new album ”Scars To Remember”. After being the best-kept secret within the heavy side of blues rock, as part of the “closed” blues scene for two decades, the band is now moving to Mighty Music and finally getting the recognition they deserve.

”Scars To Remember” is the tenth album from the Danish-based blues power trio, which has its stylistic roots in the late ’60s and ’70s, with inspiration from bands/artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and others.

Formed more than two decades ago and having played countless shows in those years, Blindstone hit it hard in the US, due to their sound, and released most of their albums on the American label Grooveyard Records. Despite the long run, the band saw a turning point in their career when, in 2020, they were hired as the backing band for the blues legend Walter Trout, for a series of successful concerts around Denmark. This experience was a factor in inspiring the band to seek a slightly more direct and basic stylistic approach on their new album. The blues influence is particularly obvious in songs such as”Down For The Count”, ”Waste Your Time” and ”World Weary Blues”.

Blindstone has always worn its influences on its sleeves, and ”Scars To Remember” does indeed contain obvious tips of the hat to influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Trout, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Gales, Jeff Healey, and others.

As always with Blindstone, Andersen’s guitar work is a focal point, as is the tight ensemble playing of the band – for example, the instrumental ”The Fields Of Bethel” comes to mind – but the band’s lyrical universe has reached new levels of seriousness and depth in the bands new collaboration with Swedish lyricist Peter Svensson, who contributed lyrics to a large part of the album. The major concerns of recent years, with a global pandemic and war in Europe, have led the band’s lyrics in a more serious, soul-searching direction, as illustrated by songs like ”A Scar To Remember”, ”Drums Of War” and ”Drifting Away”. In other words, there are no stripper poles, hot-rodded cars, or silver dollar coins to be found in the lyrics, this time around.

”Scars To Remember” is a strong entry in Blindstone’s extensive discography, and should appeal to fans of the band’s previous releases, the aforementioned artists, and fans of heavy, blues-based rock in general.

“Scars To Remember” will be released on CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on August 11th, 2023. Pre-orders are available now via this link.

The first single from the album, of the track “Waste Your Time”, will be released next week on Friday and can be pre-saved here.

Today, May 26th Finnish black metal legion ONDFØDT unleash the band’s brand new album “Det Österbottniska Mörkret”, which will be coming out via Black Lion Records. Today the band has released the final single with the track “Falskhejtins Folk”. The song is accompanied by a music video, which you can watch below.

“Falskhejtins Folk is about all those religious fanatics who lies about how they make the world a better place. Tricks you into committing atrocities and makes the seduced victims believe they are making the world more beautiful and safer. Even when everything falls apart, you stand there in the belief that everything is good.Burning down villages and murdering all who are not prepared to follow your faith. ‘Because that’s what God said we should do’.” Ondfødt comments.

Written in 2022, “Det Österbottniska Mörkret” is a bleak record, both lyric and sound wise. Hailing from Ostrobothnia, an area in western Finland with lots of urban legends and dark stories, this album is exploring the darkest side of Ostrobothnia, both lyrically and sonically.

“If you are from Ostrobothnia you will understand. The endless darkness during winter when the sun is barely going above the horizon. You will also understand the dark history of the witch hunt.“

“Det Österbottniska Mörkret” is about all of that and going even deeper to the roots of all the evil spirits that lives in the area. The album takes you through the dark history of murders and the darkest side of people driven by religion. And aswell the urban legends of the spirits and the evil creations that lives in the endless forsts of Ostrobothnia.

Guitar Virtuoso MATTEO MANCUSO Announces Debut Album “The Journey”, Releases Video for First Track ‘Drop D’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 26, 2023

Guitar virtuoso Matteo Mancuso will release his debut album, ‘The Journey’, on July 21st via The Players Club/Mascot Label Group. He has revealed the first track from the album, “Drop D,” which you can listen to here.

Mancuso hails from Sicily, nestled in the Mediterranean Sea to the South of Italy. The island has always had a rich cultural heritage, from poets, writers, philosophers, and architects to painters and musicians. Born in 1996 and raised just outside the capital Palermo, the pedigree runs deep in the veins of those from the region.

At 12, Matteo took his first steps onto the stage at a local jazz festival. Since then, his acquaintance with live performances has seen him blossom and develop through various line-ups and collaborations with the finest local musicians, including a duo with his father, where they explore the complexities of Django Reinhart’s repertoire and contemporary jazz classics. As a multi-faceted player, either classical or electric, what is astounding is his one-of-a-kind technique and use of his fingers instead of regular picking.

As a YouTube sensation, his channel is now at 142k subscribers, with his international fanbase growing, which includes some of the world’s most iconic, ground-breaking players who are declaring Matteo as a force to be reckoned with, from Dweezil Zappa to Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai to Al Di Meola and Tosin Abasi. In 2017, as part of a trio called Snips, Matteo and his bandmates took on more jazz-rock and fusion elements; their version of “The Chicken” hit 2.2 million views on YouTube.

His debut album of nine original songs was recorded at Fico d’India Studios Casteldaccia, Sicily, by his father, Vincenzo Mancuso – a gifted player who also played on the record and co-wrote two songs, “Polifemo” and “Blues For John.” The album also features Stefano India (Bass) and Guiseppe Bruno (Drums), with additional musicians Riccardo Oliva (Bass), Gianluca Pellerito (drums) and Guiseppe Vasapolli (Piano/Organ).

Mancuso began writing songs for the album around 2020. “I didn’t really have a specific concept behind the album, but I wanted to do something that wasn’t associated with only one genre, so there are some rock-oriented songs like Drop D and some modern Jazz tunes like Polifemo,” he says.

“Drop D” was one of the first songs written for the album, which pays tribute to his teens’ hard rock and prog influences such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Dream Theater. “It is a mix of typical rock and prog elements and one of the most fun songs to play live,” he says. On Samba Party, he adds. “This is a strange one because, musically speaking, it doesn’t have anything to do with the samba style, but I wanted to write a happy “major chord” song, and the thing I usually connect with giant happy parties with a lot of people is the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, so, that’s why “Samba Party.”

He has recently performed with Tommy Emmanuel in Palermo, he’s shared the stage with Al Di Meola on classical guitar at the closing night of the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival and played at the Lugano Jazz Festival in Switzerland as a guest with prog-rockers PFM and an incredible performance at the New Ross Guitar Festival in Ireland.

2023 is now where ‘The Journey’ really begins. From the age of 12, when he took his first steps onto a stage in Sicily, has all led to this moment – the precocious talent which led to the youngster becoming a YouTube sensation, to the acclaim from some of the finest guitarists of their time, to the stages graced across Europe and the ones he has shared with icons, to this moment – his debut album release of nine deftly beautiful guitar instrumentals.

“I just want people to hear it,” he enthuses. “Music has always been my favorite form of communication, and the thing I
love about instrumental music is that there isn’t a language barrier. I’m sure that people that don’t usually listen to instrumental music can find something interesting from this album.”

Matteo Mancuso will no longer be Italy’s best-kept musical secret. It’s time to share with the world.
