Italian DEATH DIES Premiere Video for ‘Lame’

Italian black metallers DEATH DIES are premiering the new video for “Lame” (Italian for “Blades”) HERE.

The song is the second single from their new album “Stregoneria”, due out on June 2nd 2023 via Time To Kill Records.

“’Lame’ is one of the first songs composed for the new album ‘Stregoneria’. Musically, it picks up from our old school roots – acts such as Blasphemy, Beherit and the black metal scene of the ’80/‘90s, revisited in a modern key, obviously in the sound but also in the rhythmic aspect of the whole song.
The lyrics focus on the concept of ‘words’ and the destructive power they have, whether they are a dogma, a precept, a commandment or even the simple expression of an idea. Words seen as ‘blades’ of a knife that can be used to obtain food, as well as to kill someone for no reason. Cowardice leads to confusion among the emotional levels between those who receive and those who communicate and this is used to the detriment of the ‘weaker’ part. We can call it religion, prevarication, conditioning, mobbing… there is no precise identity. The only element in common is the effect they have”.

With their roots firmly planted in the scene that has supported them from the word go, DEATH DIES are ready to branch out and show the rest of the globe exactly what they’re made of.

“Stregoneria”
is the sum of the influences and different musical experiences of the band members. The album is often characterized by a combination of black and speed metal riffs, intertwined with melodic openings not far from the typical sounds of the Italian and Greek occult and black metal schools. “Stregoneria” exhibits the band’s majestic-yet-malevolent sound in its most powerful form yet, but raw and robust like never before. A culmination of all the hallmarks of the classic sound of DEATH DIES: thick, pulsing guitar walls and straightforward songwriting driving the point home.
The album also features a new version of the EVOL’s classic “Sorrow of the Witch”, which has been re-recorded and updated with a more refined and bombastic production.

Tracklist:

01. Argento
02. Lame
03. Riflessi di sogni meschini

The band was born in 1995 from an idea of Demian De Saba and Samael Von Martin respectively drummer and guitarist/founder of the legendary Italian black metal band EVOL. The intention was to revisit the sound of the main band in order to offer something more violent, although combined with prog and folk influences.
In parallel with the activity of EVOL, in 1998 DEATH DIES released a split CD with Satanel entitled “When Death Died” via Maggot Records, and in 1997 a 7″ called “The Art of Domination”.

At the end of 1999 EVOL called it a day, so the musicians decided to focus on the composition of the first full-length album. Initially produced by Northern Darkness Records, “The Sound of Demons” was eventually released via “Black Tears Of Death” in 2002.

The band (which meanwhile had become a trio with the addition of Rex Tenebrae, ex EVOL) began playing live both in Italy and France, supporting acts such as Impaled Nazarene, Behemoth and Prejudice among others. In the years that followed, the band recorded two more albums: “Product of Hate” (in 2003) and “Pseudochristos” (in 2006), for BTOD and for the French label Adipocere. In 2011, with the side-project NEGATRON, the Samael and Demian released the album “Tenebre”, which displayed a more ossianic and atmospheric musical direction.

In 2015 DEATH DIES came back with the album “Legione” where several songs from both their own catalogue and from EVOL‘s discography were duly re-recorded.

In 2022 the band switched to a five-piece line-up and began the recordings of a new full-length album entitled “Stregoneria”.

Line-up:

Demian De Saba – Drums
Samael Von Martin – Guitars and backing vocals
Danjal – Bass
Der Todesking – Rhythm Guitars
Viktor Flamel – Vocals and screams

COVENTHRALL Launch Upcoming Space Adventure with First Single ‘Legacy Of Morfuirda’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on May 18, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Coventhrall. Leave a comment

COVENTHRALL are finally publishing their flamboyant sci-fi themed album Legacy Of Morfuirda. Opening single is the second track of the album, Dreadnought which introduces the villains of the story and their large battleship. The creator of the story and the vocalist Sami “Texas” Ilvonen describes the song as follows:

“Dreadnought is a huge, bulky old mothership manned by space pirates and scavenging galactic riffraff. The pirates target defenceless victims in the galaxy’s more remote space lanes and solar systems outside the reach of the galactic Emperor and the law. In this second track of the album the scavengers arrive in the Morfuidran solar system piloting the Dreadnought. They aim to enslave peaceful people and strip mine their planet Morfuidra of all their resources and ancient technology.”

Lineup:
Sami “Texas” Ilvonen: vocals
Toni Bite: guitars
Jukka Hoffrén: bass, keyboards, guitars
Kimmo Korhonen: guitars
Janne Ojala: drums

The track also features Jari Pailamo in keyboard solo.

Listen to the single on music services: https://push.fm/fl/coventhrall-dreadnought

Jukka Hoffrén, also known from Adamantra and Amberian Dawn looks back on the creation of the song:

“I composed the song with the acoustic guitar sometime in the middle of the nineties at my summer cabin. Both albums, Imaginations From The Other Side by Blind Guardian and Land Of The Free by Gamma Ray had just come out and I copied them from my friend to a c-cassette, which I blasted on my walkman. One can clearly hear the influence from those albums in the melodies of the song. Some Unanimated, Forbidden and At The Gates like-a-riffs can be heard as well.

The song got rejected by a couple of my bands over the years until finally Mr. Bite and Mr. Texas were taken in by the song enough to definitely want it in the upcoming Coventhrall album.”

This single and upcoming album Legacy Of Morfuidra are released through Inverse Records.

AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN Announce New Album “Closure”, Reveal Lead Single ‘Where Pain Begins’

Long running atmospheric black metal band AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN have today announced the release of their upcoming album, Closure, due out on August 4 via Prosthetic Records. Alongside the album announcement, the Dutch group has also shared Closure‘s lead single, Where pain begins.

Stream Where pain begins via Apple Music | TIDAL | Deezer | Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order Closure here.

Speaking on Closure‘s announcement, MCHL (guitars, vocals, keys) comments: “Album number ten and fourteen years in existence. Nobody in the band would have guessed in their wildest dreams that we would make it this far, it’s been a wild and emotional ride. We’ve poured every moment of happiness and sadness into this band.

“This tenth album feels like a closure, like an end of something. Ten is a kind of magic number, isn’t it? It feels like the end of an era, the end of the road. Nothing can last forever. Melancholic, bittersweet emotions, awe, lost memories, faded lives, forgotten pasts… it all comes together on this album.”

In the fifteen years since their 2008 inception AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN have become a staple act in both black metal and shoegaze circles, delivering hauntingly evocative missives of introspective, yearning and sorrow alike. On Closure, the Dutch band continues to push the sonic template of their disparate influences to its limits, resulting in a sound that nurtures their ethereal sensibilities as much as their wall of sound approach to the genre’s more extreme inclinations.

Recorded by the band between September 2021 and May 2022 in the Netherlands, Closure’s production spotlights the trio’s complex melodies with an accomplished sheen without compromising on the staple lo-fi elements of AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN’s foundational intensity.

On their latest full-length, AN AUTUMN FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN’s well trodden themes of loss, love, and self-actualisation continue to be expanded on in depth with an all too human ache permeating throughout. Well over a decade into their existence, primary songwriter MCHL’s vessel for melancholia and catharsis remains as poignant and vital to the modern atmospheric black metal canon as ever.

Closure tracklist:
1. Missed
2. I see you… but never clearly
3. Where pain begins
4. This feels like dying
5. As the void
6. Closure
7. For tomorrow
8. Unable to feel you
9. Culpable
10. Here comes sorrow

Los Angeles-born heavy metal icons ALCATRAZZ have unleashed the video for the thunderous new single, ‘Bring On The Rawk’. The single is taken from the upcoming album, Take No Prisoners, out tomorrow, Friday, May 19th via Silver Lining Music.

‘Bring On The Rawk’ is a powerful ode to being on the road, travelling the world playing music, and a defiant, mighty pledge to BRING THE RAWK to the masses! ‘Bring On The Rawk’ is the closing track on the forthcoming album Take No Prisoners, and what a grand finale! There can be no question of Alcatrazz’s ability to finish the journey in a blaze of glory whilst kicking some serious ass!!!

“Yesterday I sailed between Spain and Morocco and saw Gibraltar up close and personal…” recalls Gary Shea, Alcatrazz’s bassist and co-founding member. “I vow to ‘Bring The Rawk’ there and everywhere else I can with our new album Take No Prisoners… we vow to play it LOUD and PROUD. See you on tour soon!” declares Shea resolutely.

(directed, edited and camera by Danny Merton. Assistant camera by Kerry Stringer)

Take No Prisoners is Alcatrazz’s sixth studio album and sees the band energetically soaring and exploring melodic progression with road-warrior riffs. Take No Prisoners comprises of ten cracking, charismatic tracks, with each containing the unique fusion of classic American rock with the full grain hard-rocking attitude of British metal. The first single, ‘Don’t Get Mad…Get Even’ sees the band collaborating with the legendary Girlschool in a full-force, head-banging fist-pumper, while ‘Little Viper’ rides a scything guitar into a thunderous, Dio-like assault. The band also show their calmer, more expansive side with the epic ‘Strangers’. With Take No Prisoners it is clear Alcatrazz are determined to make up for lost time, roaring forwards at warp factor 10 to deliver!

Stream/watch the recently released ‘Don’t Get Mad…Get Even’ (featuring Girlschool) and ‘Battlelines’ here.

Comprised of Doogie White (vocals), Joe Stump (guitars), Jimmy Waldo (keyboards), Gary Shea (bass) and Larry Paterson (drums), and with Giles Lavery and Waldo producing, Take No Prisoners is a loudly and proudly classic rock album which draws on the Alcatrazz traditions of technically excellent screaming guitars, thunderous rhythm and the sort of vocals and overall aura that evoke prime Dio and Rainbow. And, of course, a primed and fully-tuned up Alcatrazz, whose career is fast taking on Benjamin Button proportions.

Following the success of Alcatrazz’s co-headline UK tour with Girlschool earlier this year, Alcatrazz show no sign of slowing down. Keep your eyes peeled for more 2023 dates to be announced soon. Visit www.alcatrazzofficial.com for updates.

RAVEN Unleash New Single/Video ‘Surf The Tsunami’

New Wave of British Heavy Metal stalwarts RAVEN unleash their crushing new single ‘Surf The Tsunami’, taken from the upcoming album, All Hell’s Breaking Loose.

RAVEN’s new single/video ‘Surf The Tsunami’, released today, showcases the relentless, resolute energy the three-piece brings to everything they do. Prepare yourself for a truly vehement ambush as drummer Heller gatecrashes your eardrums with a furious flurry of his own, before some supreme twister riffs bring on the full metal chaos!

“The second video from our new album is ‘Surf The Tsunami’ which features our very own ‘Drum Tsunami’ Mike Heller!” enthuses co-founding bassist and vocalist John Gallagher. “It has a blistering opening… killer riffs and I get ‘Tsunami-ed’ in the middle… it’s 100% Metal!!!”

(Video by Jay Shredder)

Set for release via Silver Lining Music on June 30th, RAVEN’s new album, All Hell’s Breaking Loose, demands that you prepare yourself for a metal rampage the likes of which you haven’t enjoyed in many a year!

“It’s pretty overwhelming when you listen to the new record. It’s also great to know that we can perform the songs live. We’re not doing any kind of tapes and all that bullshit! We can still just be a kick-ass power trio!” adds John.

The Newcastle pioneers, formed by the Gallagher brothers (bassist/vocalist John and guitarist Mark) and rounded out by drummer extraordinaire Mike Heller have emerged from Heller’s own Heaven And Heller Studios in Los Angeles with 10 crisp, visceral metal classics, each fused with riffs, twists, turns, chaos and more hooks than all the Hellraiser movies combined (think hyperbole, ‘turn-it-UP’ and find out for yourself)!

The recently released lead single ‘Go For The Gold’ is an amalgamation of riffs and furious, percussive madness, yet behind it all a melodic journey that makes it multi-dimensional skull-crushing. Title track ‘All Hell’s Breaking Loose’ twists and turns with accents and flavours buried inside the chaos; ‘Turn Of The Screw’ bounces on the upbeats before smashing you with a thunderous chorus; ‘The Far Side’ has as classic a metal riff as you’ll hear in 2023; ‘Desperate Measures’ is pure ’81-saturated tales of hardship and despair, if you ever wondered what RAVEN at the Marquee were like on a sweaty metal night in ’83; ‘Edge of A Nightmare’ is your portal to paradise, thundering as hard as the opener ‘Medieval’.

What RAVEN have delivered with All Hell’s Breaking Loose is permission for everyone to remember exactly what it’s like to lose yourself in the healing aural waters of supreme heavy metal music, resplendent in sweat-soaked denim and leather.

All Hell’s Breaking Loose will be available on 12” Black Vinyl, 12” Limited Edition Green Vinyl, CD Digipak, Tape Cassette, Digital Formats and special D2C bundles; pre-order at this location.

The promo video directed by Emil Klinta features a few snippets from the recording session and some neat super 8 footage of foggy trainyards with vintage railway waggons and locomotives as well as the band trying their luck at a selection of classic pinball machines, including – of course – a KISS one.
