Keyboard Captain RICK WAKEMAN Explores Outer Reaches of Rock & Jazz with New FUSION SYNDICATE Performance

THE FUSION SYNDICATE is the extraordinary supergroup of unparalleled musical virtuosos who first came together in 2012 with the release of their self-titled studio album, which promptly became the one of the most talked about releases in fusion jazz. Master keyboard player Rick Wakeman, a man whose accomplishments extend to the far corners of the galaxy and beyond, performed on the lead-off track from that album, “Random Acts Of Science” alongside fusion icons Jimmy Haslip of the Yellowjackets and Jerry Goodman of Mahavishnu Orchestra. Now, Wakeman returns to the Syndicate with an orbit-shattering performance on a new song!

“Io” is one of the most pivotal tracks on Fusion Syndicate’s new album A Speedway On Saturn’s Rings. Named for fourth largest moon of Jupiter, “Io” takes its astronomical theme seriously with walls of spacey synths powering a rocket-fueled thruster of a track that blasts off with a killer groove, laid down by a rhythm section of PiL bassist Jah Wobble and Frank Zappa drummer Chester Thompson, and becomes a showcase for some of Wakeman’s most gravity-defying keyboard solos!

NITE come from a long and storied line of heavy metal. The California Bay Area gave birth to titans like Metallica. This band carried that torch with pride on their debut album, which is now being reissued by Season of Mist!

The reissue of ‘Darkness Silence Mirror Flame’ comes out 27 October, 2023. Pre-order it today on CD Digipak, black or ash grey vinyl, or as a digital download HERE.

Rewatch the hard-rocking video for the album’s lead single “The Way” on our YouTube channel HERE.

Tracklist:
01. Genesis (5:02)
02. The Way (6:21)
03. Lucifer (5:14)
04. Ezelia (5:50)
05. Night Terrors (6:34)
06. Chains (4:56)
07. Bright (5:19)
08. Acolytes (6:54)

Total run-time: 00:44:50

The San Francisco Bay Area has a history steeped in forward-thinking, technically dazzling metal, and NITE carries that torch with pride. Founded in 2018, their blackened heavy metal brand barrels towards the peril of an unknown future, while keeping one eye on the days when blistering leads once ruled the land. Guitarists Van Labrakis (Satan’s Wrath, Mencea) and Scott Hoffman (Dawnbringer, High Spirits) let loose galloping riffs and harmonies that evoke the classic sounds of the N.W.O.B.H.M., with Labrakis’ grizzled voice driving their dark, melodic metal into the modern era.

With Avinash Mittur (Wild Hunt) replacing founding bassist Bryan Coons in early 2021, he and drummer Patrick Crawford (Serpents of Dawn, Older Sun) make up a rhythm section that’s fierce yet breathlessly precise: a freewheel pounding reminiscent of the early days of heavy metal, with a Rickenbacker-powered roar fueling the low end. NITE’s debut full-length Darkness Silence Mirror Flame, released in March 2020 by Creator-Destructor Records, earned widespread praise. It showcased their fist-raising classic heavy metal that nearly every fan of the genre once fell in love with, but with a twisted and shadowy edge that the titans of old could never imagine. NITE is the flame of the past illuminating the darkness of tomorrow.

Swedish Sorcerers of Dark Synth PRIEST Ascend to Another Dimension with Dark Electronic Reimagining Of RAMMSTEIN’s ‘Engel’

With two back-to-back tours across the US and Europe, festival dates, and a brand-new single all happening in rapid fire succession, you might think that PRIEST never sleep, instead fueled by the phantom power of some otherworldly, extraterrestrial entity. While we cannot confirm or deny the validity of that claim, we can attest to the awe-inspiring magnitude of their most recent release, a truly transformative take on Rammstein’s “Engel.”

PRIEST’s “Engel” hammers the mechanized edge of the original into a skin-splitting, piercingly sharp point, with a pounding, bass-heavy beat, gritty, distorted vocal overdubs, and a delicately velveteen, ethereal melody, compliments of female vocalist and PRIEST visual artist, Greta Helling. PRIEST reimagine the original by stripping it down to its nuclear core, before quantizing and constructing a truly unique coalescence of electronic and melodic instrumentation that is all their own.

Stream/download the single: https://orcd.co/priest_engel

Rammstein’s “Engel” was released in April 1997 as the first single from their second album, Sehnsucht (Desire), along with a music video inspired by the 1996 Quentin Tarantino film, From Dusk Till Dawn. “Engel” made its own on-screen debut during the closing credits of November 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and earned its place in the top three of the German singles chart, in addition to being certified gold by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) for the sale of over 250,000 copies.

“Engel” serves a standout single from upcoming full-length feature, A Tribute To Rammstein, available worldwide on August 25th. This power-packed compilation features both old and new school industrial acts, including Manntra, Stoneman, and Julien-K, joining forces with vanguard veterans, Front Line Assembly, Laibach, Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory), Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke), and Skold (KMFDM/Shotgun Messiah), for a one-of-a-kind aggrotech amalgamation of industrial and dark electro.

PRIMORDIAL to Release New Album “How It Ends” on September 29th

Long-running, Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metallers PRIMORDIAL will release their tenth full-length, How It Ends, on September 29th via Metal Blade Records.

PRIMORDIAL has nothing to prove. Having lasted thirty-two years and now returning with their devastating new studio offering, the Irish band has made it clear they are a primal force who consistently lay it all on the line. The follow-up to 2018’s critically lauded Exile Amongst The Ruins, How It Ends sees them delivering more of their seminal blend of Celtic and black metal, with an extra added urgency, and staring down the apocalypse.

“The title is a question – is this how it ends? How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society – humanity – who knows?,” says vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships, and I suppose it asks the question, who reacts, who rebels – how does it end now for them?“

Working alongside founding members Pól MacAmlaigh (bass) and Ciáran MacUilliam (guitar) and longtime drummer Simon O’Laoghaire, the band started writing in earnest in the Fall of 2022, having lit a fire under themselves to work hastily and productively. PRIMORDIAL never plans out a record beforehand, letting them come together naturally, though Nemtheanga knew he wanted something with a bigger, more open sound, and something more aggressive, which is exactly what they achieved. “How It Ends is a very angry, defiant, visceral, and rebellious album, and as we worked it all began to take more shape and form itself. It may be the note we go out on but it will be a note of resistance, in musical terms. I think it’s also more metal! And more epic!“

It only takes one listen for these claims to be proven true, whether it’s the surging, gruff, dark “Ploughs To Rust, Swords To Dust,” the moody, desperate “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” or the sprawling “All Against All,” which is drenched in a sinister air and driven by pounding rhythms, wielding a towering climax. “It certainly sounds like PRIMORDIAL, there is no doubt about that, we have our own style and this is a new chapter of the same book. If we have done anything new it’s really to work with more conviction than ever, and trust more than ever our instincts.“

Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about. How It Ends is no exception. “If for example To The Nameless Dead (2007) was about the movement of borders, building of nations and those sent to war who gave their lives forming them, then this is the album more about resisting those empires, the freedom fighters, the outlaws, the people who made suicidal stands for freedom of speech, or independence – or for the most important word in the English language: liberty. It’s not hard to see why the album is inspired by this considering where we are right now in the world.”

In advance of the record’s release, today the band unleashes first single and album closer, “Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defeat Is An Orphan,” and its accompanying video.

Watch PRIMORDIAL‘s “Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defeat Is An Orphan” at THIS LOCATION.

HARM’S WAY Share New Single + Video ‘Devour’

Hardcore forerunners HARM’S WAY have released their frenetic new single “Devour” which examines the impact of toxic relationships. The band tell, “‘Devour’ is an expression of self-reflection following the realization that everything that was once there to give has been spent. Led down a path of deception and manipulation, one’s sense of self has been lost along the way. ‘Devour’ is the process of waking up to your isolation, with actions and purpose that are somehow no longer your own. It’s a crossroads that can lead you either the rest of the way down, or back to where whatever’s lost may be found again.“

Listen / Share / Playlist “Devour”

For nearly two decades, Harm’s Way has evolved from whispered underground favorites to favorite sons with an arsenal of songs that helped shape heavy music’s trajectory – creating a roadmap for legions interested in “reinventing” themselves. Harm’s Way has never stayed complacent and constantly morphed shape- absorbing and reapplying influences in new and creative ways to create some of the most well-executed songs in hardcore punk and metal.

And yet, considering the changeling that they and their previous efforts are, Common Suffering is easily the most musically diverse undertaking in their catalog. The album beams with incredibly memorable riffs, breakdowns, and impeccable songwriting. The title is a clear nod to the collective experiences of the past three years of chaos, misanthropy, paranoia, disorder, confusion and anxiety, with the band exploring themes ranging from personal struggles with mental health, relationships, political upheaval, corruption, and political power.

Despite Harm’s Way‘s reputation for unrelenting brutality, Common Suffering surprises at several turns with quieter moments of well thought out songwriting that emphasize light and shade. It’s their understanding of how to effectively orchestrate these dynamics that makes an already ironclad record feel infinitely more merciless. This is Harm’s Way at the top of their game – the ambitious sound of a band traversing new ideas.

The key to the success may be a shift to recording at Studio 4 in Pennsylvania with producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Code Orange). Going into the recording, the goal was to improve some of the band’s processes, examine vocal cadences and experiment during production to gain the best idea from each track. The first change dealt with refocusing members on their specific wheelhouses. While Pligge had previously assisted with riffs, on this effort, his main objective was to ensure the perfect vocal attack- leaning into Yip for advice and letting the remainder of the band take the wheel with their respective parts. The result is each player pushing to the far reaches and creating material that has previously never been colonized by any band, or hardcore writ large, before.

Common Suffering sees its release September 29 across all digital streaming platforms, vinyl and CD formats via Metal Blade Records. See below for variant options and to pre-order.

Today Harm’s Way have also announced a month long North American tour which kicks off October 18 in the Midwest and routes them through Texas, both coasts and more. Fleshwater, Ingrown  and Jivebomb are set as support. See below for a full list of dates.
