EVILE Unleash ‘Monolith’ Lyric Video, New Album Out Now

Following the release of their new album, The Unknown (released on July 14, 2023 via Napalm Records), English metal frontrunners EVILE have shared a lyric video for the heavy as hell new single “Monolith”!

“Our 4th single from The Unknown is the juggernaut called ‘Monolith’,” EVILE frontman OL Drake comments. “This song started after Adam sent over the main riff and we got to work on building on it. Our aim was for something menacing and dark, and this might be a contender for my favourite track on the album. The song itself is based on a recurring nightmare I used to have when I was young. I had it for months on end and it always featured this monolith presence with eyes at its base. I would be terrified to go to sleep in case I have it again. Enjoy the chug!”

With their sixth studio album, the band ultimately proves that they are more than just a thrash band, churning out slower tempos with a heavier approach. In addition, melodic vocals meet serious, in-depth lyrical topics. The Unknown sees EVILE more profound, personal and deep, while also proving heavier, stronger and more raucous than ever. Tracks such as previously-released singles “The Unknown” showcase the band’s haunting elements, balancing a dark, melodic and almost mesmerizing vibe with colossal, heavy riffage and thundering drums. While “When Mortal Coils Shed“ doubles down on the stirring, “new” side of EVILE, explosive songs such as “Reap What You Sow” and premiering today, “Monolith”, leave nothing but a hammering world of sound building up to a stomping thrash manifesto! The Unknown unchains the rampant songwriting talent of these British thrash metal frontrunners, proving that thrash does not always have to be fast-paced. It can also be in-your-face with outstanding musical skill, without fear of showing a still unknown facet of lyrical depth and an enthralling, versatile, brave modern metal sound.

About the new album direction, OL Drake recently revealed:

“We’ve taken a completely different approach on this album and I looked inward for inspiration; I’ve opened myself up like I never thought I would. We’ve always been at 500mph, like on the previous album (Hell Unleashed) and this time around we felt we wanted to try the polar opposite – some slower-than-we’ve-ever-done tempos with more melodic vocal hooks, and give Adam some freedom on the leads/writing. I’ve been working on my vocals since diving in the deep end in 2021, and we’ve worked hard for 2 years on this, so I’m excited for everyone to hear the fruits of our labour. We’re really proud of what we’ve all accomplished with this album.“

The Unknown was recorded by Tim Vincent at Longwave Studios in Cardiff, UK, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Clancy at the same Longwave Studios. Out now on Napalm Records, make sure to grab your album copy HERE!

Psychedelic doomers WEIRD TALES have released their new single and video ‘Krokodil Blues’.

The final single is about drugs, and specifically – opiates. As Lemmy once said: “Heroine must be wonderful, cause lots of my friends died for it”. Can you imagine having your arm and leg rotting and falling off, and the only thing you can think of is another dose of the poison that’s responsible for it? Listen to Lemmy kids – don’t touch that shit! Do speed instead!

Watch the official video here.

Lyrics:

Listen!
We are the ones who use
Dazed and confused
Purgatory of the living fast
All the things you know are already past
And it’s hard to explain
And you have to obey
When the drugs talk to you
They leave no choice I’m warning you`

Listen!
Flesh rotten down to the bone
Cut it or you’ll be gone
Vein is running away
Another shot, another day…
Should I have to explain
This shit drives me insane
When the God talks to you
There is no choice I’m warning you

Listen!

This autumn the Norwegian hard rockers CONCEPTION are coming home in double sense. After a successful European tour, and just two weeks after the news of Conception playing Central Scene October 14th in Elverum, Roy Khan’s town of birth, the band presents a show at famous rock venue Byscenen in Trondheim.

Tore Østby on playing in Trondheim for the first time since 1997:

-”Trondheim has always been a special city to me. I was born and spent my two first years there. The city was the hard rock capital of Norway when I grew up with bands like TNT, that had a great impact on me and the band! It was such a blast playing Trondheim back in the nineties. A lot has happened since then and we are very excited to finally be back on stage and to share a new live experience!”

After Trondheim and Elverum they will play Horns Up Metal Cruise between Oslo and Copenhagen November 3rd. First the band look forward to host the Conception Viking Camp that they will hold with fans September 22-24th in the old Viking Capital Birka in lake Mälaren outside Stockholm.

Conception is known for melodic and rhythmic music in a unique, powerful, yet dynamic blend with such various influences as flamenco, jazz, modern electronica and classical music.

SVALBARD Release Melancholic Composition + Heart-Breaking Animated Video ‘How To Swim Down’

DON’T BREAK THE SPELL
I’LL NEVER TELL
WHY WE WON’T DROWN
IF WE SWIM DOWN…

Svalbard have released the third single from their forthcoming new studio album, The Weight Of The Mask, due out on October 6th. The track titled ‘How To Swim Down‘ is Svalbard‘s most unique and moving work to-date, featuring heart-rending, ethereal violin parts from Liam Phelan, and a profound vocal performance from Serena Cherry.

The track is accompanied by a beautiful animated video, created by Boy Tillkens. The heart-breaking animation is a delicate portrayal of humanity, detailing the tenderness and strength found in existence.

Svalbard‘s Serena Cherry commented,

“This song is about the exquisite pain and sorrowful beauty of unrequited love. I think it’s the saddest, most heart-breaking song we’ve ever written. Lyrically, the starting point of the verse is about concealment of adoration, before the chorus gives way to realising and accepting a fate of loving someone quietly from afar.

I cannot watch the music video for How To Swim Down without crying. Boy has captured the bittersweet emotion of the song so delicately, it’s an incredibly moving piece of animation to watch.

Musically, How To Swim Down saw us dive into unchartered waters with Liam adding many layers of mournful violin parts onto the track. Finally, violins – for the first time in Svalbard history! It feels so exciting to have new instruments on a song. Another first is that How To Swim Down features only clean vocals, no screams. I wanted the vocal delivery of these lyrics to feel as though I’m whispering a secret to someone whilst they’re sleeping. My vocals here represent that lonely type of communication, singing to yourself in an empty house. It’s a private, selfless love song, where only the listener knows of my heartache.”

The Weight Of The Mask was recorded at The Ranch Production House, UK. The record was produced and mixed by Lewis Johns, with mastering by Grant Berry. Engineering was handled by Lewis Johns, assisted by Matt Janke, with additional editing by Kel Pinchin and Sebastien Sendon.

Svalbard‘s intention with their music is to make people feel less alone, and to be there for people in their darkest times. The Weight Of The Mask bravely lays out experiences of mental illness and depression, hoping to help destigmatise these topics.

The Weight Of The Mask – tracklist:
01. Faking It
02. Eternal Spirits
03. Defiance
04. November
05. Lights Out
06. How To Swim Down
07. Be My Tomb
08. Pillar In The Sand
09. To Wilt Beneath The Weight

Svalbard finished an extensive tour across the continent supporting post-metal monoliths Cult Of Luna and Russian Circles earlier this year, and the band are currently in the midst of a string of European summer festival performances. They’ve recently played the likes of Inferno (Norway), Hellfest (France) and With Full Force (Germany), plus 2000Trees and Portals in the UK. Their remaining festival dates are listed below.

SVALBARD will be returning to the EU mainland for six headline show dates in October, which will be followed by a performance at the Cult Of Luna curated Beyond The Redshift event in London and a headline date at The Key Club in Leeds.

Summer Festival
16-19 Aug – UK, Compton Martin, ArcTanGent
October Dates
14 Oct – NL Nijmegen, Soulcrusher
15 Oct – DE Cologne, Helios 37
16 Oct – DE Berlin, Urban Spree
17 Oct – DE Dresden, Chemiefabrik
18 Oct – DE Neunkirchen, Stummsche Reithalle
19 Oct – FR Paris, Backstage By The Mill

20 Oct – UK London, Beyond The Redshift – curated by Cult Of Luna
21 Oct – UK Leeds, The Key Club

Formed in Bristol UK, Svalbard have released three studio albums, three EPs and several split releases. Their exceptional last studio album, 2020’s When I Die, Will I Get Better? was dubbed by Metal Hammer UK as “the most important British metal record of 2020”, with both Metal Hammer and Kerrang! lauding the record as a top 10 album of the year. A career milestone, it cemented Svalbard as a powerful and vital component of our global music scene.

Whilst refining their distinctive blend of euphoric black metal, post-rock and d-beat, Svalbard have incorporated a few more surprising influences along the way. From soft, mournful singing to progressive guitar leads, it showcases a sensitive dynamic that lends impact to their most crushing moments – of which there are undoubtedly many. There’s no poetry, no ambiguity – just direct, raw honesty as the quartet tackle some very uncomfortable subjects head on. This is heavy in the most evocative sense of the word. The blunt lyrics are equally as important as the music.

Svalbard are:
Vocals/Guitar – Serena Cherry
Vocals/Guitar – Liam Phelan
Drums – Mark Lilley
Bass – Matt Francis
