Following an ambitious multi-year tour that saw the band bring their heavy metal power to Europe, Canada and the USA, the Australian heavy metal band ELM STREET finally returns with their third studio album: “The Great Tribulation”! The album will be released as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats on October 27, 2023 via Massacre Records, the pre-sale is now available at THIS LOCATION!

A soundtrack for troubled times, or a charred mirror reflecting the state of the world today, “The Great Tribulation” provides commentary on the darker side of life, and pairs it with the band’s most ambitious and hard-hitting music to date. While ELM STREET‘s first two albums, “Barbed Wire Metal” and “Knock ‘Em Out… With A Metal Fist”, have both been revered as modern classics by fans of traditional-flavoured heavy metal, “The Great Tribulation” seeks to take the template set by the two albums preceding it, and amplifies it by several notches, resulting in the band’s most powerful, complex, and heavy performances recorded to date. Everything about “The Great Tribulation” encapsulates a band at the peak of their powers, ELM STREET have left no stone un-turned in expressing their diverse musical palette, resulting in a wide-ranging collection of songs that stand tall individually, but extremely powerful as a collective unit.

Give ear, as today the band is premiering a music video for their first single “Take The Night”! At just over 2 minutes long, it’s the shortest and most direct song the band has produced to date, without sacrificing any of the trademark power and fretboard fireworks they are known for.

A thundering introduction by the rhythm section of Tomislav Perkovic and Nick Ivkovic give way to Aaron Adie’s catchy soaring guitar lead, the song’s repeating hook, before vocalist Ben Batres enters the fray and tells a classic tale of someone looking for action late at night, but with a twist: Is the protagonist the hunter, or are they the hunted? You decide.

“The song was written at the very start of the writing sessions, and is a throwback to simple, catchy, party metal anthems we’ve all grown up enjoying.“ The band comments. “No doubt this will be an instant favourite with fans and casual listeners alike, “Take The Night” is a slight departure from our previous material, yet sounds 100% ELM STREET. An obvious choice as a first taste of “The Great Tribulation”.”

Album number three from the thunder from down under may be well received by old fans and new alike and will set a very high benchmark for what to expect in the future. If you are a fan of classic powerhouses like Helloween, Judas Priest, Hammerfall, or Manowar, get ready for the ride of your life!

“The Great Tribulation” was recorded at Melbourne’s legendary Sing Sing Studios, in fact, may be one of the last albums recorded in its current location. Luke Cincotta (Airbourne, The Amity Affliction, Butterfly Effect, Karnivool, Northlane) was the master behind the recording desk, and German legend Michael Mainx (Toxpack, Tankard, Destruction) mixed the album. The striking front cover was painted by Andreas Marschall (Kreator, In Flames, Sodom, Blind Guardian), and the album design and additional artwork provided by Dark Prince Graphix.

“The Great Tribulation” track listing:

  1. Seven Sirens
  2. Take The Night
  3. The Price Of War
  4. If Provoked, Will Strike
  5. Behind The Eyes Of Evil
  6. The Last Judgement
  7. The Darker Side Of Blue
  8. A State Of Fear

Iconic Sámi–Norwegian Artist MARI BOINE Releases New Single ‘Elle’

Sámi–Norwegian artist Mari Boine and internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft present their brand new single “Elle”. The song is taken from the duo’s upcoming full-length Amame, which will be released by By Norse Music on September 29, 2023.

The track “Elle” is premiering now in the form of a music video on the By Norse Youtube Channel here. The single is available on all digital streaming platforms here.

Pre-orders for Amame (translated: So We Don’t) are available for pre-ordering in the By Norse store here. Pre-save the album here.

Mari Boine comments: “The original theme song to the movie “The Kautokeino Rebellion” by Nils Gaup is named for its hero: the young Ellen Aslaksdatter Skum. Ellen endured 18 years in prison away from her little son, for her leading participation in the 1852 rebellion against the coloniser’s exploitation of the Sami community and the devastating consequences of the introduction of alcohol in our homeland  (OR: the destructive consequences the introduction of alcohol had on our people). Though a very much appreciated song by myself and my audience, this is my first studio recording of Elle. I love this version created by Bugge and me, and I hope it will strike a chord with many of you, too.”

Mari Boine was signed to By Norse earlier this year. By Norse is a platform to support Norse and Norse-related Art, Music, literature, film and culture. It was founded by Einar Selvik (Wardruna, Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik), Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved, BardSpec, Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik) and Simon Füllemann (AISAmusic).

Tracklist:

5. Čiŋadan gahpiriin (My Head Holds High the Horned Hat) 03:37
6.  Eadnán bákti  (To Woman) 04:58
7.If Tomorrow’s Mine 05:23
8. Mihá (I Stand Tall) 05:23

Biography

Iconic Sámi–Norwegian folk artist Mari Boine is known as a genre-bending trailblazer with a taste for jazz, folk, rock, and world. Returning with her new album Amame after five years, she has again found something completely different inside her than anything heard before.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Mari Boine lived up north, in Tromsø, and was preparing a new album with producer Svein Schultz. But musicians were hit hard by the pandemic. Jobs disappeared overnight and a gathering of musicians in the studio was not possible. Svein Schultz was lucky, he got a job as headmaster at the Cultural School in Hamarøy, while Mari Boine was left alone, listening to piano music. She loves piano music.

From there, it didn’t take her long to contact Bugge Wesseltoft, whom she knew well after he produced her album Gávcci Jahkejuogu – Eight seasons in 2002. She would like to collaborate with him again, but not with the electronica guru Bugge – this time with the pianist.

Over months, ideas flied back and forth, before they eventually were able to meet in Bugge’s room and record songs, with the exception of two songs that Mari herself recorded at home in Tromsø, while she looked out the window at the strait and a pandemic-closed country. Her first footprint as a sound technician, but hardly the last!

Amame is a different and more mature Mari Boine, accompanied by Bugge’s tender and responsive piano playing. Songs with seriousness and depth, sung by a Mari Boine who has found peace in life, but who nevertheless tells stories about love, human vulnerability, injustice, and struggle, but also about pride and dignity. For the first time, she records “Elle” on her own studio album, the iconic theme song from the film “The Kautokeino Rebellion”, now quietly accompanied by Bugge’s piano.

“Mihá ” is a song she knew she had to sing in Sami one day, the first time she heard it. This is the song for Liv in the book “The dark secret in Tysfjord”, written by Anne-Britt Harsem. This is the song for her, whose real name is Mona Marita, and it was written in Norwegian by Stian Soli, and here translated into Sami by Rawdma C. Eira and Mari herself. She says it is “for everyone who has managed to stand up and create a dignified life for themselves, despite betrayal and painful experiences of abuse”.

Mari sings for others, she herself assumes the role of an elderly person and imparts wisdom to the listener. The love song “Alit Alihastá Aliha” is a text by Karen Anne Buljo about two artists with great love for each other, for each other’s art. Anyone who listens to the interaction between Mari Boine and Bugge Wesseltoft does not even need to understand the lyrics.

The last song on the album, “Mu Oappá Niegus ” is the only song on the album that gives us Mari in band format and a small nod from one producer to another, as an homage to Svein Schultz from Bugge Wesseltoft. Mari Boine never stands still, and you never know what awaits, but perhaps there is a little hint here. A greeting to the principal at the Cultural School in Hamarøy.

DARKER DAYS Share New Single & Cover Version Of Mister Monster’s ‘Deep Dark’

Following their much-acclaimed debut album,“The Burying Point” (released on April 28, 2023 via Fiend Force Records, licensed by Massacre Records), DARKER DAYS has unleashed a new single – a cover version of “Deep Dark”, originally performed by influential US horror punk band Mister Monster!

Mister Monster’s only album is considered to be an early genre classic of the second phase of horror punk, and it became influential to lots of bands of the second and third horror punk phase. Salem, Massachusetts-based DARKER DAYS have recorded their version of the song as part of a tribute compilation which has been in the making so long that the band decided to release it now and to celebrate their appearance at the hugely popular Horror Hound Weekend in the US, where they will not only play a show with the leading modern horror punk Band Blitzkid but also appear at the convention with horror legends like Robert Englund or Rose McGowan.

Says DARKER DAYS guitarist and song writer Nick Sullivan about “Deep Dark”:
“Mister Monster is legendary. For us they are right up there with Blitzkid, AFI and the Misfits as one of our biggest influences as a band. Jason was always so kind to us while we were coming up in our
early years with previous bands we were all in. We had always talked about doing a Mister Monster cover, and it wasn’t easy choosing any of their songs. We all love “Deep Dark” and felt like it was the perfect song for our style.”

Listen to the DARKER DAYS version of “Deep Dark” HERE!

DARKER DAYS live:

08/19/2023 US Indianapolis, IN – HorrorHound Weekend

LALU Announce New Album “The Fish Who Wanted To Be King”, First Single + Video Revealed

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 14, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Lalu. Leave a comment

LALU have announced the upcoming release of their fourth album, THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING, on October 20, 2023. The first single and video from the album, “Is That A London Number,” are out today.

Pre-order/save THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING: https://orcd.co/thefish

Watch below the video for “Is That A London Number”.

Lalu will be accompanying singer Damian Wilson on his “One Knight Only” European tour, a celebration of his 30-year career as a frontman. During the tour, the band will revisit songs from Wilson’s time with Lalu and other bands such as Ayreon, Landmarq, Threshold, and many more.

“I never make the same album twice, let alone the same song twice,” explains keyboardist/founder Vivien Lalu. “With this latest project, I wanted to approach things differently, adopting a process that mirrored

the dynamics of a band. Taking a seat behind my synthesizers, and occasionally a piano, I began recording my ideas while playing basic drum patterns on the keyboard. These initial recordings served as a blueprint for the songs. I would then share these initial drafts with my long-time collaborator of 20 years, Joop Wolters, who skillfully crafted the guitar and bass parts. Our collaborative approach fostered a sense of freshness and adaptability throughout the process. We had the freedom to trim or expand sections as we felt necessary, allowing each member to express their creativity to the fullest. The ultimate aim was to grant everyone involved complete artistic freedom in their respective roles. This approach fostered a sense of unity and cohesiveness. By embracing this collaborative process, we achieved a sound that—in my humble opinion —truly reflected the collective efforts and artistic contributions of each musician. It was an opportunity for everyone to shine and bring their unique talents to the forefront.”

As singer and lyricist Damian Wilson continues, “THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING is an album concept that draws inspiration from the spirit of the original pioneers of Dada, who vehemently opposed war and ridiculed the power structure of the time. It challenges conventional notions and delves into the realms of hierarchy, accountability, and adaptability. Continuing the narrative from the previous Lalu album, PAINT THE SKY, this album delves deeper into the utopian aspirations of its travelers. However, their pursuit takes an unexpected turn as they encounter “The Blockchain,” a digital platform of absolute transparency and accountability. Within this realm, every aspect is meticulously defined, and any deviation swiftly flagged. Unbeknownst to the travelers, the very survival skills that once propelled them forward are now turned against them, leading to manipulation, entrapment and eventual destruction fueled by their own fears. THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING serves as a poignant reminder of our collective dependence on adaptability and the ever-evolving nature of our existence. As we reflect on the past to gather wisdom, it is the exploration of uncharted territories and the wonders of our own minds that hold the key to unlocking our future.”

Lalu is a musical project originally founded in 2004 by the French composer and producer Vivien Lalu, son of Noelle and Michel Lalu (members of the ‘70s French progressive act Polène). THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING is the second album, and fourth album overall from the band, released under the partnership between Vivien and Frontiers, and is creatively and production-wise a major step forward if compared to the previous albums.

Musically, this album sees a contemporary approach to a Progressive Rock thread which was mostly developed during the ’80s and that now has developed also after the explosion of Progressive Metal. With a line-up that now is stronger and more cohesive that ever, again with singer Damian Wilson (ex-Threshold and regular collaborator of Arjen Lucassen), Joop Wolters on guitar and bass, Jelly Cardarelli on drums and sharing keyboard duties with Matt Daniel, Vivien Lalu and friends have managed to create a fabulous final product that combines intricate melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and awe-inspiring performances.

Technically flawless, and emotionally touching THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING has a story to tell and asks to be enjoyed quietly and with love from passionate listeners!

Here’s the track listing for THE FISH WHO WANTED TO BE KING:

“Black Waters” delves into uncharted territory for Belle Morte, presenting an evocative fusion of symphonic metal and the soulful essence of Indonesian music. At the heart of this masterpiece are the entrancing melodies of the suling and gamelan, brought to life by the incomparable talent of Maulana Malik Ibrahim. His enchanting guest vocals in Sundanese add an ethereal dimension to the track, making it the most romantic offering from Belle Morte to date.

Hailing from the picturesque city of Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, Maulana Malik Ibrahim is a contemporary folk musician renowned for his mastery of traditional Indonesian instruments, particularly the suling and gamelan.
