One of the most captivating bands in pagan metal, the adherents of heathen temple ARKONA, have finally announced the upcoming release of their eerie, captivating ninth studio album, Kob’, out June 16, 2023 via Napalm Records. After five years of silence, the band returns with eight ominous new tracks – forming the next chapter in their discography. Painting their music in the light of pagan traditions, Kob’ tells the story of humanity’s descent into the apocalypse.

Today, ARKONA has unveiled the album’s first single and title track, “Kob’” (Eng: spell), alongside an impressive occult-inspired music video. Underlined by Masha’s amazing screaming vocals and gloomy soundscapes, the music video tells the story of humanity’s push away from the forgotten relics of the past, only to be resurrected and laid to rest.

ARKONA state about the upcoming album, Kob’:
“Kob’ is ARKONA‘s darkest creation to date. Conceptually, the album describes six steps of the descent into the abyss, where each of the songs is the epitome of every step. We invite everyone to recognize the truth of the Primordial Darkness by plunging gradually into the world of the black reality of Suicidal Humanity through its complete annihilation.”

Preparing listeners for the first step into the abyss, the album opener “Izrechenie. Nachalo” (ENG: The Speech. The Beginning) gently takes the listener’s hand, leading them into trancelike realms of ominous whispers and murmuring voices – a recurring motif on the album. Dominated by rhythmic synths and a catchy bassline, “Ugasaya”(ENG: Fadin’ Away) represents the modern era of ARKONA’s pagan roots, as well as the great diversity in their music. Although Kob’ is dedicated to pagan metal, “Mor”, one of the album’s longest tracks, leans towards black metal – forming the most epic hymn on the album. Not only articulating through lyrics, Masha also sets the tone with her keyboard solo on the emotional “Razryvaya plot’ ot bezyskhodnosti bytiya” (ENG: Tearing the flesh owing to the despair of being). While society digs its own grave through wars, religious beliefs and environmental problems, pensive wind instruments and acoustic guitar interludes transform the aggression of deep low growls and fast-paced guitar shredding. Closing the album with the world’s absolute apocalypse on “Izrechenie. Iskhod” (ENG: The Speech. The Conclusion), Kob’ is deeply rooted in pagan metal stylings of the old days, but offers a modern spirit via its production and variety alike.

ARKONA state about the upcoming album, Kob’:
“Kob’ is ARKONA‘s darkest creation to date. Conceptually, the album describes six steps of the descent into the abyss, where each of the songs is the epitome of every step. We invite everyone to cognize the truth of the Primordial Darkness by plunging gradually into the world of the black reality of Suicidal Humanity through its complete annihilation.”

TRIBULATION have released their new EP, Hamartia!

Adam Zaars (guitars) comments: “We felt that ‘Vengeance (The Pact)’ deserved a video as well, and considering the lyrical content of the song, a stop-motion approach seemed like the way to go. It’s an idea we’ve entertained before, and we’re very glad Selmer Kastalje was available to help us bring this idea to life.”

Purchase Hamartia now HERE.

To celebrate the release of Hamartia, the band has revealed a Stop-Motion Animated Video for BLUE ÖYSTER CULT Cover ‘Vengeance (The Pact)’, watch it below.

Watch the previously released videos for the Hamartia EP below:

–“Hamartia” –“Axis Mundi“

Forged amid the grubby depths of the Swedish death metal scene, Tribulation have always been the shadowy outlaws of the underground – and with Hamartia, they’re beginning a new chapter in their sinister story. The group’s songwriting powers have undergone a vigorous rejuvenation; alongside Johannes Andersson (vocals, bass), Adam Zaars (guitars) and Oscar Leander (drums), Tribulation welcomes new guitarist Joseph Tholl on this EP, who split writing duties with Zaars. The resulting four tracks found on Hamartia are a riotous encapsulation of everything that diehard fans demand from the Swedish crew – but sharper, darker and laced with venom.

Hamartia track-listing:

  1. Hamartia
  2. Axis Mundi
  3. Hemoclysm
  4. Vengeance (The Pact) [Blue Öyster Cult cover]

UNEARTH Release Third Single ‘Into The Abyss’, New Album Out May 5th

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Unearth. Leave a comment

UNEARTH delivers another bar raising track of extraordinary musicianship loaded with technical prowess and an utterly brutal vocal delivery, taking listeners from dismal to hopeful and yet again raising UNEARTH to higher ground.

Trevor Phipps says, “A riff fueled interstellar endeavor sums up our third single ‘Into the Abyss’ .  Our future planet is in disrepair and the fortunate are forced to flee to a distant world to continue the human race while billions of the less fortunate are left behind to meet a hellish end. Buz McGrath lights the path with a journey of melodic riffs, leads and solos that set it apart from the bulk of The Wretched; The Ruinous album. Beyond oblivion we ride!”

On album number eight, The Wretched; The Ruinous, UNEARTH not merely continues to amp-up their metal meets hardcore intensities, but they also exceed themselves with a record that incorporates elements of classic UNEARTH offerings dating back to 2004’s “breakthrough” The Oncoming Storm , while exploring beyond the recent back-to-basics promise of 2018’s Extinction(s). For UNEARTH’s founding mainstays, Trevor Phipps and guitarist Buz McGrath, it feels like the beginning of a new chapter. “Buz took the entire pandemic to write these songs,” says Trevor. “He pushed himself to get out of his comfort zone and explore what UNEARTH is, both past and present. Buz adding these new elements and killer song structures inspired me to be more diverse vocally. The Wretched; the Ruinous is still UNEARTH, but it’s also the most dynamic record we’ve ever done.”

Stream ‘Into the Abyss’ HERE.

Teaming again with Extinction(s) producer, Will Putney (Body Count, Thy Art Is Murder), the goal was simple: create the definitive UNEARTH record. From the scathing title track opener to the explosive “Cremation of the Living”, the brooding “Mother Betrayal” to the album’s riff-violent closer, “Theaters of War”, The Wretched; The Ruinous is UNEARTH pulling out all the stops. “There’s certain songs where you can really hear the band’s hardcore roots,” explains Trevor. “The track ‘Dawn of the Militant’ is a true mix of metal and heavy hardcore, that to me define what the term ‘metalcore’ truly is. For the bulk of this record though, the metal, aggression, and technicality are reminiscent of our Watchers of Rule (2014) album. All of the ingredients of UNEARTH are present on these songs, but the band continues to explore new territories as writers and players.”

The Wretched; The Ruinous is a turning point moment for UNEARTH. It’s first album in their canon recorded without guitarist Ken Susi, who mutually parted with the band in 2022. Trevor shares, “It simply came time for Unearth and Ken to take a break from working together. He’ll always be a large part of the story of this band, and we wish him the best on all of his endeavors”

The frontman makes no bones about the arduous writing process for The Wretched; The Ruinous. “Coming out of the pandemic I found myself struggling to find my zone of creativity with writing, but I pushed through, and once I found it things caught fire.” Phipps has never been one to shy away from often scathing social commentary. “Lyrically, it’s a warning shot record,” Trevor continues. “I’ve spoken about the decline of our environment by Mankind’s hand dating back to our first record in 2001, and I’ve continued to write about the environmental crisis throughout our entire career. We are now at a tipping point with Mother Nature and our place on this planet, and I had to devote the entirety of this album to what is happening around us. This album is a collection of stories of what is happening, and what is to come, if we do not make monstrous changes to how we treat our only home.”

“The Wretched; The Ruinous is about the eight billion people on this planet,” echoes the frontman of UNEARTH ’s latest state of the world address. “We’ve created a man-made mass extinction event and have been too slow to correct our faults. Extreme weather, drought, famine, disease, erosion of land, culture wars, civil wars, wars for natural resources, and the displacement of billions of people, is all a current reality. This isn’t a future problem; it is a now problem and I take this record to talk about it. As a species we are very quickly turning our once Garden of Eden into our future hellscape.”

“It’s not all devastation and gloom though,” adds Phipps. “On the track ‘Call of Existence’ I talk about how we can turn this around with swift, drastic changes to our emissions and consumption of natural resources. There is a responsible way forward that will benefit all life on our planet, and we have to embrace and act on that responsibility now.”

TEETH Release Music Video for Second Single ‘Hate Me’ + Announce New EP “A Biblical Worship Of Violence”

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: TEETH. Leave a comment

Born from a musician’s desire to re-envelope their life in the heaviness that is metal and to refamiliarize with a conduit that could be considered detrimental amidst today’s destructive society, the gritty powerhouse that is Ontario, Canada hardcore/metal quartet TEETH emerged from the sludge of a foul generation.

Resolved to utilize the carcasses of their conquered demons as fodder for a new euphonious weapon, TEETH wanted to create the most ignorant, aggressive-sounding music imaginable. Their latest offering A Biblical Worship Of Violence will be unleashed digitally on May 5th and on vinyl on July 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band states, “A Biblical Worship Of Violence is our ode to the ache of change – a snapshot of a moment in time where we were all going through dark shifts in our personal lives that forced us to see life through the lens of true pain and discomfort. We knew we needed to create something so visceral and honest to articulate what we’d been going through while also giving us the opportunity to speak on the state of this world. Division, compulsion – an intrinsic gravitational pull toward cruelty and brutality. ABWOV is a commentary on human beings darkest, most volatile conventions.“

The band has released the second single “Hate Me” from the upcoming EP. The music video was shot and directed by the band while Matthew Daly at Clearway Media handled the editing.

TEETH comments on the single, “‘Hate Me’ is about watching the people around you – whether it’s your peers, family/loved ones, colleagues – self-destruct over petulant nonsense. Watching a marriage or friendship crumble over disagreements when both parties are too blinded by our inherent attraction to turmoil to see the pettiness of it all. It’s about how we – as humans – are so viscerally unwilling to budge in our cemented beliefs and beholden to our egos that we’d rather just let the house burn down to prove our point. I THINK THERE’S FIRE IN THESE WALLS.”

A Biblical Worship of Violence was recorded in the Fall of 2020 at Bell Tower Studios. Davis Maxwell and the band were responsible for producing and engineering the record while Lance Prenc handled mixing and mastering. ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN Release Music Video for Second Single ‘Ghost’

ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN absorb the icy emotion of their surroundings in a hard-hitting hybrid of heavy metal proficiency, metalcore intensity, and skyscraping melodic sensibility. The group channels this energy on their second full-length offering, Kingdom Undone which will be unleashed on May 26th via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band has released their second single, “Ghosts”. The punishing single takes listeners on a rollercoaster of riffs and haunting vocals. Check out the somber music video below.

Listen to “Ghosts” on all streaming platforms: https://arrivalofautumn.bfan.link/aoa-ghosts.a01

Ty Fox comments, “Lyrically ‘Ghosts’ is the heaviest song we’ve ever written and it points the finger at religious entities that have never once taken proper responsibility for their actions. To this day. the church continues its role in lying, extortion, and its disgusting treatment of children and continues to protect the people who hurt them. ‘Ghosts’ touches on the dark history of Canada and the genocide committed against the indigenous people in the residential school system. We chose not to talk over them as it’s their story to tell but we do point the finger at those responsible. We had to end up censoring the music video as it was too disturbing but it is nowhere near as disturbing as the atrocities of any organized religion.”

ARRIVAL OF AUTUMN began the recording of Kingdom Undone in August of 2021 at Mark Lewis Studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee & at their own studio in Grande Prairie AB, and concluded in December 2021. The album was engineered by the band and Mark Lewis who also was in change of producing,  mixing, and mastering. The artwork for the album was created by Travis Smith.

Pre-order Kingdom Undone here: https://bfan.link/AOA-KingdomUndone.a01

Below is the Kingdom Undone tracklist:

  10. Bury Me
