More on OSIRIS REX

Rising from the ashes of TORNADO comes OSIRIS REX. With Tornado, vocalist Superstar Joey Severance recorded three albums (Amsterdamn, Hellsinki – Black President – Commitment to Excellence) with the debut being produced by Peter Tagtgren and their last album featuring such metal heavyweights as Karl Sanders (Nile) Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth) and Ross Dolan (Immolation). All three albums received positive reviews worldwide and the band did a European tour supporting Six Feet Under.

Soon after the tour ended, and right before the start of the pandemic, SJS decided to disband Tornado for personal reasons and move forward with a new lineup which will become Osiris Rex.

The four-song debut EP, “Arrival of the New Dawn” showcases the musical direction the band is taking which is not too far removed from Tornado. Stay tuned!

With a focus on writing great, catchy songs, Osiris Rex are looking to advance the thrash genre for a new generation!

NILS PATRIK JOHANSSON Releases New Single + Video ‘Mercedes Benz’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 10, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: NILS PATRIK JOHANSSON. Leave a comment

NILS PATRIK JOHANSSON (Astral Doors / Lion’s Share / ex Civil War) surprises his fans with a very special cover version of a great classic.

With “Mercedes Benz”, one of the best Scandinavian hard/heavy singers of our time takes a bow to arguably one of the best rock singers of all time. Ever since his childhood, when he discovered the “Pearl” album in his mother’s record collection, Nils Patrik Johansson has been a big fan of the incomparable Janis Joplin. With his version, NPJ brings the classic to a more modern, punchy level that invites spontaneous sing-alongs.

All instruments were played by Lars Chriss (Lion’s Share), who was also responsible for the production.

“Mercedes Benz” is available now as a digital single. The official video for the song can be watched below.

Nils Patrik Johansson (born 14 October 1967 in Borlänge, Sweden) began his musical career in the 1980s as a drummer. Soon, however, he realised that his desire to become a singer was stronger. In 2003, Johansson founded the “Astral Doors” together with Joachim Nordlund and Johan Lindstedt, for which he writes the lyrics and vocal melodies. NPJ has also been the lead singer of “Lion’s Share” since 2003 and also joined “Wuthering Heights” in the same year. Between 2012 and 2016 he was lead singer of “Civil War”. Nils Patrik came up with the name for the band and also wrote all the lyrics and most of the music. He has also released two solo albums, “Evil Deluxe” (2018) and “The Great Conspiracy” (2020) on Metalville Records, the label on which the “Astral Doors” have released successful albums worldwide since 2010.

From a lyrical aspect, the band draws inspiration from the recent tragedies affecting Western society.

In January 2021, the band released their first song “Diamond Eyes” digitally, along with a limited edition 7′ vinyl. Following this, in February of the same year, the band released their debut EP “Autumnus”. Both albums were recorded in Portugal, France, Spain and in the US. Renowned producer Daniel Cardoso (Anathema. Anneke Van Grisbergen, Angelus Apatrida) would be in charge of producing the album, while Gus “Perkele” Sazes (Angra, Kamelot, Gus G, Firewind, Arch Enemy, Morbid Angel) will be in charge of art and design.

For the art-cover and design, the band decides to go back to work with Gus Sazes. In addition to promoting the diffusion of the album, in August, the band signed a contract with Dronicon Films, to release an animated science fiction saga of which the first two chapters have already been presented. Also in the summer of 2021, the band toured across Spain, Portugal & France to make their first concerts.

On April 1, 2022, the band released “Our Last Eclipse – The Settlers Saga Pt. 1” physically and digitally. Roughly one year after releasing their latest album “To Hell Or Kingdom Come”, Danish Viking-inspired melodic metallers HEIDRA are back with a new video. “Cloaks And Daggers” – one of the most melodic death metal songs in the whole record – is displayed with a series of live-captured images that show all Heidra’s firepower on stage.

HEIDRA have teamed up with Metal Shock Finland to premiere “Cloaks & Daggers” official video for Finnish territory, enjoy it here:

Heidra is a Copenhagen-based metal band playing a mix of melodic, black and power metal with folk-themed undertones, powerful choruses, and brutal growls. The band was formed in 2006 and has been steadily growing in strength, in songwriting and as a live performing band over the years. Heidra released their debut EP “Sworn to Vengeance” in 2012 which was followed by the band’s first full-length album “Awaiting Dawn” in 2014.

These two critically acclaimed releases pushed Heidra forward and landed the band a series of concerts, including two smaller international tours with bands such as Ektomorf, Infest and Noctem, a Danish tour and support concerts in Denmark for folk metal giants Korpiklaani.

In 2016 the band were given a support slot on a full European tour in support of Ensiferum and Fleshgod Apocalypse. This propelled the band, literally and figuratively onto the international stage and opened the door to many new fans and new friendships. At the conclusion of the tour work began in earnest to a follow-up album, expanding upon and continuing the epic narrative begun on “Awaiting Dawn”. “The Blackening Tide” was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered in 2017, being released in the following year. Following the release, Heidra once again set out to conquer Europe, supporting Omnium Gatherum on their European tour in the fall of 2019.

2020 became the year of the Covid-19 pandemic, and, as most actual band activity had been stopped in its tracks, Heidra began working on their third studio album, “To Hell or Kingdom Come” – an album that would complete their trilogy of story-driven concept albums, “The Dawn Trilogy”.

“To Hell Or Kingdom Come” is out now on digital, CD and LP (two colours, each limited to 300 units).

Line-up:
Morten Bryld – vocals, keys, acoustic guitars
Martin W. Jensen – guitars
Carlos G.R. – guitars
James Atkin – bass, vocals

ÅSKVÄDER Release New Single ‘Misfortune’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 9, 2023

Swedish garage rock band ÅSKVÄDER release the electrifying single “Misfortune” on The Sign Records. The four-piece also announce a tour to take place in Spain late May/early June, spreading the word about their new high-octane release as well as their latest studio album “Fenix” (2022) across the Iberian peninsula. Dates below.

Åskväder on “Misfortune”:

Sometimes things go south right? This song describes a situation where you are left dirt poor eating noodles as your only food source just to survive and eventually you’ll get osteoporosis due to lack of vitamin-C. The only way to stand the misery that the world has put you in is to play rock n roll, and that loud. We hereby present Misfortune which is our punk-ish take on living in the shabby outskirts and all broken in a wealthy western society. The lyrics, melodies and riffs came to life without effort and we tried to keep that feeling whilst recording it. To put the song out was an easy decision – we loved it from the first beat of Tims drum fill to the last catchy chorus and we hope that you will too!

Stream the single HERE or listen on YouTube:

Catch Åskväder live:
28/4 – Gothenburg, SE, Heavy Rock Weekend
26/5 – Gothenburg, SE, Hängmattan
30/5 – Madrid, ES, Fun House
31/5 – Bilbao, ES, La Nube Cafe Teatro
1/6 – Santander, ES, Rock Beer The New

Get Åskväders’ latest studio album “Fenix” HERE or via Bandcamp

About Åskväder:

Electrifying Swedish rockers Åskväder makes thunder and lightning through music. Well balanced seasoning to the sound of the 90s Scandinavian rock scene mixed up with smoking hot riffs drenched in bluesy licks and catchy refrains. Adding thundering drum and bass groove with a topping consisting of elaborate vocal harmonies Åskväder is Swedish and can be translated into ‘Thunderstorm’. That says it all. No fuss, just straight Rock n Roll.

While capturing some of the influences from the legends of our time such as The Hellacopters and Turbonegro Åskväder manages to stay in their own lane, creating their own style of rock for a new decade.

Hailing from the west coast of Sweden, Åskväder released their debut EP ”Quick Fixes” in 2018. In 2020 the band joined forces with The Sign Records for the release of their debut, self-titled studio album. In 2022 Åskväder returned with their second full-length effort, ”Fenix”. The new album takes the Åskväder sound heard on the debut album to a new level. Mixed by Kalle Lilja & Per Stålberg (Welfare Sounds), who truly put an intense vibe to the album.

Åskväder was formed in 2018 and consists today of Lucas Monryd with his lightning speed bass grooves, Tim Ferm on drumrolls, Albin Sörensson on lead vocals and Martin Gut bending guitar strings and singing harmonies. Look out for Åskväder who released their second album through The Sign Records in March 2022.

DEATH GOALS Share New Single + Music Video ‘Year of the Guillotine’

DEATH GOALS have shared a new single and accompanying music video, titled Year of the Guillotine. Year of the Guillotine is the third track to be taken from the UK queercore duo’s forthcoming sophomore album, A Garden of Dead Flowers, which is due for release via Prosthetic Records on May 5. The video for Year of the Guillotine was produced entirely from analogue film by Abhorrent Disobedience, visually complimenting the track’s pointed stand against queer erasure.

Stream Year of the Guillotine via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order A Garden of Dead Flowers here.

Speaking on the single release, DEATH GOALS comment: “Year Of The Guillotine was a song written as a response to the UK Tory government’s neglect of the LGBTQIA+ community. Neglect that has continued to fester and sadly we are living in a time of incredibly vocal hatred towards our community, not just in the UK but worldwide. But, try as they may, we will not disappear. You can’t erase us.”

Whilst bands are often prone to describing their latest opus as a progression, in the case of DEATH GOALS it very much is – and there were signposts towards their burgeoning intentions on 2021 full-length The Horrible and the Miserable’s closing track. Nothing Left To Give was the only song to feature clean vocals and paved the way towards what is now just around the corner with A Garden of Dead Flowers. This album also sees the pairing of Harry Bailey and George Milner embrace being defined as a queer hardcore band; their experiences – both good and bad – with that label and its accoutrements are documented throughout.

From album the album opener – the wonderfully titled Genderless Clones of Gameshow Hosts – through to the joyously provocative closer, Faux Macho, Harry and George guide listeners through secret woodland hookups, fighting against queer erasure, nightmarish middle of the night fears, addiction and rehab, dysphoria, and – potentially most importantly – euphoric community acceptance.

Sonically, the pair have expanded their palette – arguably a happy by-product of feeling more comfortable in their own skins and within the band’s identity. With more time and focus dedicated to shaping and re-working the songs in pre-production, the 11 tracks on A Garden of Dead Flowers are more cohesive and well-rounded than ever before. Recording took place over just five days in April 2022 with Tom Hill at Bookhouse Recording studio in London, UK. Whilst they stay true to their chaotic hardcore nucleus, there are flourishes of noise, sludge, and even black metal speckled throughout.

The flowers of the album name are motifs of members of the queer community; trampled, crushed and oppressed by policies, politics and society itself. The title track revisits the content of the song Exit Wounds on their debut – detailing an experience in rehab – but this time through the lens of increased queer self-acceptance and ownership. Whilst there are undoubtedly dark moments on A Garden of Dead Flowers, DEATH GOALS are gleefully antagonistic and have created an engaging anthology of reflections on lived experiences, offering up hope, support and community to those around them.

A Garden of Dead Flowers tracklist:
1. Genderless Clones of Game Show Hosts
2. A Garden of Dead Flowers
3. Ultraviolence
4. Loveless
5. P.A.N.S.Y.
6. Death Goals In Cursive
