Hailing from New Hampshire in the US, blackened melodic death metal act BEGAT THE NEPHILIM have long been a force to be reckoned with when it comes to delivering high energy and complex riffing backed by harsh otherworldly vocals. This was very evident on the band’s sophomore album The Grand Procession which was released through Noble Demon Records. For a taste of what the album delivers, and to see the intense skill set from the band, check out the latest single and video “Ossuary.”
The video for “Ossuary” depicts a story that features the figure from the cover art for the album which was designed by Giannis Nakos (The Agonist, Suffocation, Evergrey) and based on a concept from the bands vocalist and lyricist, Tyler Smith.
Offering some background to the lyrics to the song and the album and video concept, Smith states:
“This song lyrically and thematically, with the music video, was inspired at first by one of my favourite movies, “Cemetery Man”. The cover art for the album as well. At the heart of it, this song is as important to this albums overarching theme of death and grieving as the title tracks are. I wrote this song for my father specifically, as well as my friends that I have lost along the way. The ossuary in this song is representing both a mental and physical place I can bury my lost. This song and album overall is an ode to the dead.”
Discussing the music behind “Ossuary”, guitarist Cam Dupere offers:
“The impetus for the composition of “Ossuary” was to showcase the frenetic energy of our earlier material juxtaposed against a more brooding and moody atmosphere. Elements of our sound that were hinted at on our first album are explored more thoroughly, such as the black metal influenced riffing and technical flourishes. The middle section was written to contrast the blitzkrieg that proceeds and follows it, allowing the listener time to decompress before the sonic onslaught begins again. The focus on a more dynamic shifts was definitely a driving force behind “Ossuary” and will be a great asset in our bag of tricks going forward.”
The video for “Ossuary” was created by Eric DiCarlo from SquareUp Studios, who has previously worked with acts such as Lorna Shore, Shadow of Intent, Dying Fetus and Chelsea Grin. The location for the shoot was also once used by Alice In Chains for the video “Voices”.
Begat The Nephilim have been busy writing their third album which will be mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitarist Christian Donaldson, who has worked with acts such as Ingested, Beyond Creation, Get The Shot and more. The band are due to hit the studio late this year.
“Ossuary” will have the blood pumping for what comes next and be sure to check out more from ‘The Grand Procession’
Formed in 2012, BEGAT THE NEPHILIM have shared stages with high profile acts such as DEICIDE, KATAKLYSM, SOULFLY, SUICIDE SILENCE, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, MORBID ANGEL and many more, as well as participating in tours/festivals across the US, such as Summer Slaughter and the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. With their heavy yet melodic, anthemic and technically impressive sound, as well as their frenetic & chaotic live performances, the band successfully established a lasting impression on crowds across the US.

Tracklist:
01. Destined Death 02. Hate In My Veins 03. Soul Remover 04. Dream In Fear
Band already released new video done by Dany Carpenter from Bound By Blood Production.
Band commentary about “Soul Remover” song: “Soul Remover is a ground-shaking, crowd-stirring anthem. The track kicks off with a breakdown as potent as a meteor strike, layered with down-tempo chugging and aggressive vocals that oscillate between hardcore shouting and eardrum-shattering gutturals. This track is a tribute to those with a refined taste in the genre, a composition promising to stir a mosh pit as cataclysmic as a nuclear blast during a live event.
The lyrics of Iron Rule pull no punches. With Soul Remover, they brazenly confront those spreading hate and deception. They challenge the distorted societal notion that labels you a bully for standing against slander. Firmly rooted in beatdown and hardcore values, Iron Rule calls out those who should have kept their ill-advised words to themselves.
The track also showcases a crushing contribution from Jay Muller of the Total Deathcore-signed band “Reminitions,” resulting in a progressively intensifying breakdown that amplifies the track’s potency. This collaboration reflects the solidarity within the Californian music scene, echoing powerfully in every pulsating note“.
July 21, 2023 sees German heavy metal force, VELVET VIPER, release their forthcoming, sixth studio album entitled Nothing Compares To Metal. The album will be coming out as a CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats via Massacre Records, you can pre-order your copy at THIS LOCATION!
Ever since their formation in 1990, VELVET VIPER creates music that reflects the band’s mentality and creative freedom, in a world that need originals, not copies. Nothing Compares To Metal is a continuation of VELVET VIPER‘s concept with lyrics about classical, poetic and mythical themes. Just like on the first three albums of the band’s new era, Jutta Weinhold and Holger Marx have composed all the songs together. The band has chosen a natural old-school sound with only some little sprinkles of keyboard here and there, but as first single releases showcase, they have captured their authentic live sound. Since VELVET VIPER has toured and recorded with an unchanged lineup for several years now, they nailed their style of music with crushing beats and great melodies.
Following a previously-released, first single, “Invisible Danger”, today, VELVET VIPER are presenting us their album opener and title track “Nothing Compares To Metal”! “It’s time again for some appreciation! Here is ours for Nothing Compares To Metal!” Says Jutta. Enjoy the band’s new video clip, now streaming here:
Nothing compares to metal. Metal music is indomitable, untamed, noble, helpful and good,” Jutta continues. “Let the earth go backwards for a change. Sometimes you wish time could be turned back to find what was lost. Imagination, dignity, peace, decency…… The secret of life is not to do what you love. The secret of life is to love what you do.”
Nothing Compares To Metal was mixed and mastered by Michael Ehré at B-Castle Studio. All songs on the new album are about 5, 6 or 7 minutes long, because according to the band, the songs need enough space to evolve with its different parts and complex structuring to create the drama VELVET VIPER want their music to convey.

Alternative Metal band ANTIROPE just released their new full-length album Amnesia via Eclipse Records on June 30 and earlier today, the band dropped a new music video for the song ‘Is This The End’. The album was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Patrick Fleischer (Lacrimas Profundere, Darkseed, Alev) at Studio 6.0. ‘Is This The End’ is the third music video taken from the new album, and it was also directed by Patrick Fleischer.
“For the music video of ‘Is This The End,’ we wanted to capture the entire emotional essence of the song and convey it visually” says lead vocalist Slaven Stokic. “Patrick had a specific vision in mind, using a lot of shaky camera footage to create a sense of discomfort for the viewers. It all starts to culminate at the beginning of the chorus and it just gets wilder towards the end. It may be challenging to get through the whole video because of the shaky cameras, close-ups, and super-fast edits, but we think it’s worth sticking around until the end. I think this one could be polarizing and maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but we really like the video and are pretty curious about the feedback.” Guitarist Patrick Fleischer adds, “we wanted to create an extreme video that could potentially polarize people; something more focused on art rather than being mainstream. It was designed to be either loved or hated by viewers. I had a clear vision in my mind and spent several days planning the lighting, shots, and post-production. As a result, the shooting and editing process was a lot of fun and went by quickly. This video truly embodies the spirit of our band because we simply enjoy doing things the way we want, without worrying about whether others will like it or not. This approach is how we composed the songs for the album and how we approached shooting the video… this is ANTIROPE!”
The new debut album by Antirope is entitled Amnesia. The explosive debut release contains eleven emotional songs, and it was just released on June 30, 2023.Amnesia runs deep and goes hard, tapping into our emotions with beautiful cruelty and authentic heaviness. It is an honest record, a burst of anti-trend, representing the polarity of life in all its aesthetic doom and poetic subtlety. The album is not so much a statement; however, as it is an unfolding narrative, full of passion, peril, climax, and epiphany. It catalogues a journey. It is the story of us. Since the instruments were recorded live, there is an immediacy to this record that vibrates the ribcage. Not since early Led Zeppelin have listeners heard the glorious echo and ring of the cymbals like mysterious sirens coupled with the crunch and pound of the rhythm guitars and the bass, as if Antirope were playing ten feet away from us, shaking the windows, rattling the floorboards, and bumping pictures off the mantle. As for the vocal performance, we have a heartfelt tenor sound produced so close-in that it binds with our breath and the beat of our blood. Spoiler alert: This album is an experience, coming full throttle, no detours, aimed straight for the ear, the head, the heart, and the center of your soul. The album cover art was created by Vittoria Francesca Spille.
