With a constant intensity from start to finish, the new AVARICE track and official video “Between The Trenches” captures the ferocity and brutality of war in both sound and lyrics. The violent expression of the music gives voice to the horrors of the trenches and underlines the Danish young band’s roots in some of the classical themes of the thrash metal genre.

Produced by Chris Kreutzfeldt (Cabal, Ghost Iris, Møl), “Between The Trenches” is a powerful display of old-school death/thrash metal like you haven’t heard in a long time.

Finally, after putting on iron and fire at the local clubs in Denmark, melodic death/thrash metal band Avarice is ready to release their highly anticipated self-titled debut album in 2023. The record includes ten hard-hitting tracks that are themed around the antiquity’s mythological tales of punishment and extreme greed – hence the band and album name “Avarice”.

For the recording and production of the album, the band teamed up with the successful Danish producer Chris Kreutzfeldt (CABAL, Ghost Iris and Møl – just to name a few). The record pins down in a perfect manner the status of Avarice as a front-runner of the old-school death/thrash sound of the 2000s – however, with a new and powerful take on the genre. The album captures Avarice’s brutal, intense and raw live energy and takes inspiration from pioneers such as Slayer, Sepultura, HateSphere and Power Trip. 

Avarice was formed by a https://youtu.be/136cx4nWrbobunch of teenagers in 2007, the same year in which the collective also won the Aarhus Metal Contest and played shows and festivals with bands such as Kreator, Soilwork, Volbeat, Mnemic, Dawn of Demise and Mercenary. After laying low for several years, Avarice was restarted in 2021, in which year the EP “Reborn in Blood” was released. The EP was amazingly well received by fans as well as reviewers, which led them on their way to UPRISING! Records.

Now, from past to present, the self-titled album “Avarice” holds true to what the band has been promising all along: an uncompromising display of ferocious and brutal sound. Undoubtedly, the band’s debut album will soon be considered as a modern Danish metal classic that belongs in any record collection.

“Avarice” will be released on LP (black vinyl, limited to 300) and digital formats via UPRISING! Records on June 6th, 2023.

British/Danish rock singer MICHAEL CATTON (ex-Tainted Lady) has teamed up with guitar virtuoso Soren Andersen, for the release Catton’s debut solo album. Immersing themselves in their common love of 70’s and 80’s hard rock, they are bringing the style, spirit and swagger of the golden age of rock to the modern day. And the first single of the album, “Ready For The Takin’”, hits the ground running.

“”Ready For The Takin’” is the final form of a song I began writing in my bedroom over a decade ago, back when I was discovering bands like Kiss and Def Leppard”, Catton reveals. “When I teamed up with Soren, we wrote the chorus together and had the first fully-fledged song on the album. It’s a fun rocker and holds a special place in my heart, representing my teenage dream of releasing my own songs that has now become a reality”.

BOYS FROM HEAVEN Release New Album “The Descendant” on June 9th

The sequel. 

A strong debut demands a strong follow-up. The pop/rock sextet BOYS FROM HEAVEN are now ready with their sophomore album, “The Descendant”. 

The group, though still faithful to the 80’s AOR universe, has found greater inspiration in a more atmospheric sound, where dreamy pads, punchy synthesizers and drum machines are blended with the band’s organic and authentic sound. 

All musical elements have been meticulously crafted in this incredibly detailed production, which is mixed and mastered by Erik Martensson (Eclipse, Ammunition, etc.).

On “The Descendant”, Boys From Heaven present the sonic equivalent of cruising back to the future, straight to the arcade hall, on to the drive-in cinema, and back home to mend a broken heart. 

“With this release, we have made an album that doesn’t just draw its inspiration from the 80’s, but also takes the listener through an array of emotions analogous with this period of music”, keyboardist Mads Noye offers. “The album takes you on a trip from the classic Kenny-Loggins-workout-montage heard on the track “Saling On”; to the sobbing-by-a-rainy-windowsill, 80’s pop banger “Sarah”; and everything in between. Above all, the songs on the album take you on an emotional rollercoaster – and that’s what we are best at!”. 

For “The Descendant”, the Danish boys decided to approach the recording in a different way, opting for a more intimate setting. “We know from experience that the tracking process is the longest when crafting an album, and also the most important. Because of this, we didn’t want to book an expensive studio and feel pressed for time and money”, lead singer Chris Catton explains. “We wished to record as much of the album ourselves as possible, so we had time to polish all the details that are part of writing a great, coherent record. Therefore we chose to record the album in my studio in Copenhagen, giving us the opportunity to care for even the smallest details of the album. This, of course, means very little if you don’t have the right producer who can take the recordings and bring the songs to the next level. That’s why we teamed up with Erik Martensson of Eclipse who, it must be said, certainly lives up to his reputation with this impressive production”, he concludes. 

“The Descendant” will be released on LP (180gr black vinyl, limited to 300), CD and digital formats via Target Records on June 9th, 2023. Pre-orders are available here.

ONE HORSE BAND Share Video for New Single ‘Supersonic’

April 7th will see the release of “Useless Propaganda”, the third album by Milan based One Horse Band, which will be coming out via Go Down Records. In support of the album, One Horse Band has released a music video for the new single “Supersonic”. Watch it below.

“Supersonic is a straight and simple rock’n’roll song. Sometimes you try to look suspicious or even sophisticated, afterall you always end up grabbing a guitar and playing the same old three chords. It’s such a timeless formula.” One Horse Band comments. 

Recorded in Toronto, Canada, produced and mixed by the Los Angeles rock producer Dave Schiffman (who has worked for bands like Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), the new album dials down the aggression in favor of reflection.

Coming from a strict do it yourself philosophy and a fast & loud attitude, the One Horse Band has not completely left his rawness behind but carefully redefined it in a more mature and polished dress. “Useless Propaganda” intentionally rips apart the idea of what the One Horse Band is and represents, sounding like a fine tuned mash up between alternative rock, garage noise and punk anger. Lyrics are getting very personal, but even the most introspective moments are delivered with the same desperation and represent a voice of righteous rage in the modern age. “Useless Propaganda” is an intimate journey from innocence to disillusion, a new evolutionary stage in the One Horse Band path and a painful scream that will probably remain unheard.

May 19, 2023 will see blackened death metal force THULCANDRA release their fifth studio album, entitled Hail The Abyss, via Napalm Records. Following the recent release of their music video for first single “As I Walk Through The Gateway”, today, the German four-piece has shared their diabolic album title track, “Hail The Abyss“!

The band’s forthcoming magnum opus proves yet again why they’re atop death metal’s malefic vedette. It showcases their affinity for dark, aggressive and mellifluous metal while the entire album rips and terrorizes with the intensity of hell. As always, THULCANDRA‘s about a vibe – there’s always a unique “feel” that’s distinctly old-school, but without the tired trappings of it.

Preparing to return from their debut US tour alongside FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, OBSCURA & WOLFHEART, guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer comments about the new single:

“The title track of our upcoming album, „Hail The Abyss“, turned into a sharp and pushing composition that blends a balanced mix of black and death metal. The record turned out as we hoped it will, and the video produced by Grupa13 (Behemoth, Kreator, Arch Enemy) might be the most iconic clip we came up with in our 20 year long lasting career.“

THULCANDRA’s rise to power ignited when the band unleashed their debut album, Fallen Angel’s Dominion, upon metaldom in 2010. The group, fronted by founding member and visionary Steffen Kummerer (also of Obscura fame), have tightened their hibernal grip on blackened death metal since. The desolate melodic emanations in follow-up studio records Under a Frozen Sun (2011), Ascension Lost (2015), and the chart-topping, 2021-album A Dying Wish, dedicated to late bassist Chris Kratzer, solidified THULCANDRA as a superior force, expertly thrusting the magic and mystery of mid-’90s melodic black-death metal into the modern era.

“With ‘Hail The Abyss’, we just count the 5th album within 20 years of Thulcandra“, Kummerer recently said. “A banger, and a diverse record that shows a unique blend of black and death metal, combined with classic heavy metal twin guitars. Hail the Abyss is slated for release on May 19, 2023 via Napalm Records. Cooperation with renowned producer Dan Swanö (Dissection, Opeth, Katatonia) was compulsory, as was the re-invitation to cover-master Lochner.

Opening with an entrancing acoustic introduction, first track “To Hell And Back” quickly slams in with a punishing death metal attack.
