Metalcore Act ATENA Release Emotional Ballad + Music Video ‘Oh My’

ATENA is known for exploring dark and emotional themes in their music, typically accompanied by intense riffs, screaming vocals, and heavy breakdowns. However, their brand new track takes a departure from their usual style, and ATENA slows things down and delivers a stunningly emotive ballad titled ‘Oh My’.”

Listen to the single here: https://orcd.co/atenaohmy

The band states:
“The intention behind the song was to create an emotional soundtrack that captures the sensation of life flashing before your eyes, and we actually drew inspiration from movie trailers. We love the irony in how trailers often end up being better than the movies themselves while also revealing the entire plot. The music tho is usually very good, and we wanted to capture some of that in this new track”

ATENA have pushed through to become one of the most noteworthy and experimental metalcore acts from Norway, proving that there’s more than black metal that roams in the country. Merging elements from classic metalcore with more urban soundscape, they address issues new generations face today. The new track is mixed and mastered by Swedish producer Henrik Udd (Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Imminence).

ABOUT:

Over the last years and with 4 albums under their belt, ATENA have proven to be the fore fronters of Norwegian metalcore with their relentless mix of heavy guitars, electronic samples and hip-hop influences.

With a deep inspiration from classical composers, hip hop and love for heavy music the band entwine these elements together with lyrics of darker episodes that occur through life. ATENA’s latest, critically acclaimed album “Drowning Regret & Lungs Filled with Water” earned them international praise.
According to Metal Hammer UK, “Atena’s willingness to push boundaries needs to be applauded”, while one of Norway’s biggest newspapers Dagbladet praised them for being “something semi-exotic in the Norwegian metal flora.”

ATENA are:
Vebjørn Iversen – Guitar
Jakob Skogli – Vocals
Ulrik Linstad – Bass
Fredrik Kåsin – Drums

PUPIL SLICER Announce New Album “Blossom”; Reveal Title Track + Music Video

PUPIL SLICER have today announced their upcoming sophomore album, titled Blossom, due to be released via Prosthetic Records on June 2. Alongside the album announcement, the London, UK band have shared the title track with an accompanying music video directed by David Gregory. The futuristic visual serves as an introduction to Blossom’s conceptual world of sci-fi and cosmic horror, with central themes of abject despair, reincarnation and a fascination of hell.

Pre-order Blossom here.

Speaking on the album announcement and single release, Kate Davies (vocals / guitar) comments: “Blossom is the culmination of two years spent with razor focus on crafting a journey like no other. We are incredibly proud of the feats we have achieved on our sophomore album, building upon the experience and feedback from our debut to further break down the walls between metal, hardcore, shoegaze, electronic music and pop.

“We have delivered the most concentrated PUPIL SLICER experience yet. A hard sci-fi/cosmic horror concept album, the story told across Blossom draws on some of our favourite media to craft these 10 tracks where instrumental, lyrical and visual elements have been cohesively refined to serve the world we’ve created.

“We are introducing the world of Blossom via the title track, the final point beyond time and space, a nexus of everything that could have been and a vantage point into everything that came before.”

Drawing influence from a myriad of genre classics across books, movies and videogames, PUPIL SLICER‘s primary lyricist, Kate Davies has crafted a story that conveys personal experiences via an other-worldly narrative. In the wake of a profane signal of alien origin, the album opens with the protagonist losing touch with reality beneath a starry night sky. What follows is a kaleidoscopic voyage through another plane of existence where all is not as it first seems; trapped in a loop of destruction that must be imparted upon others. The tale ultimately comes to a point with serenity achieved in the closing minutes, planting the seeds of hope for an opportunity to start anew.

Whilst 2020’s Mirrors was lyrically a very raw, biographical album, on Blossom Davies has deftly blended between their lived experiences and the tales that unfold throughout the ten tracks on the follow up. These stories are supported by the intensely intricate and skillful rhythmic backbone provided by Josh Andrews on drums, Luke Fabian on bass and bursts of shredding leads from former live guitarist Frank Muir. Told through the prism of a fantastical fiction, the visceral delivery and cathartic energy is palpable as ever; intergalactic embellishments can’t destroy the umbilical link between what churns within and what is later spewed out.

An intense month in the studio with producer Lewis Johns has led to a cohesive and confident sounding album that embraces ethereal singing, electronic breakdowns, and bold experimentation – without ever losing sight of their core tenets. Through darkness and despair, there is always – at the very least – a glimmer of light in all that they do. Drawing from influences as diverse as Nine Inch Nails, Deafheaven, Radiohead, and Botch, PUPIL SLICER have moulded an album that is effervescent with passion but doesn’t shy away from a good hook and a catchy chorus.

Season of Mist are proud to announce the re-signing of HOODED MENACE. The Death Doom outfit will release their next full-length via the label. HOODED MENACE‘s previous album ‘The Tritonus Bell’ was released on August 27, 2021 and can be listened to via various digital platforms HERE.

HOODED MENACE comment: “We’re looking forward to work with Season of Mist for more Hooded Menace music! This is the first time for us to re-sign to any label, so that says a lot, I suppose. Since we are not playing live anymore, but went back to being a “studio band” only –  just like Hooded Menace was meant to be in the beginning – we’ve decided to part ways with Teemu Hannonen (rhythm guitar) in good spirits and continue as a three-piece.“

Line-up

Lasse Pyykkö – Guitars, bass
Pekka Koskelo – Drums

Bay-Area’s LARVAE Present New Single ‘Open Tomb of Nightmares’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 17, 2023

Bay-area death-doom metallers LARVAE will be releasing their new album, “Entitled To Death”, on April 7th 2023 via Fucking Kill Records.

Today, the band premieres a brand new single, “Open Tomb of Nightmares”, at Grizzly Butts. Stream it HERE.

Oakland, California has summoned the rituals of many metal legions over the decades. Its stench is filled with dark art, morbid riffs, death and doom. There’s a scorched place in the corner of the crumbling landscape evoking evil and witchy magic where Larvae feast on the remains of those who perished.

“Entitled To Death”
pursues a human experience, traversing the middle realm seen thru the eyes of a defected warrior. Bound to a reality of misanthrope, power, and trauma the protagonist seeks balance until the final collapse in a land filled with ruin and loss. The crossover compositions and lyrical anecdotes grapple with mental health and self worth before crossing over into a cosmic abyss.

Inspired by 90’s legends like Runemagick, Paradise Lost, Immolation, Bolt Thrower, Neurosis and Dismember, Larvae decompose Death and Doom metal to emote thru narrative and conjure dismal hallucinations.

The sophomore album by LARVAE unveils a bare-boned trio led by founding member vocalist/ guitarist/ engineer Brad Kobylczak (Eulogy, Kuru, Machine Head, Green Day) who’s accompanied by the low end marauding of bassist Wyatt Culbertson (Born/Dead, Abrupt) and the percussive barrage of Eric Evert (Rebels Advocate) on drums. Since 2011, LARVAE have been ruminating on their own breed of death/ doom atmosphere conjoined with blackened passages and macabre riffing to align the unique anatomy forming what stands today. “Entitled To Death” delivers a slab of morbidity to scrape away festering corpses into heaps of liquified tissue.

Album tracklist:

01. Entitled to Death
02. Obscure Unknown
03. Of Power and Loss
04. Open Tomb of Nightmares
05. The Last of Living
06. The Stars Spelled Death
