Following hot on the heels of their killer DEAD END BLUES single, PALACE OF THE KING keep dropping new material and this time it’s a high energy rocker called FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES, which brings back fond memories of early Aerosmith, Rose Tattoo and Guns n Roses.
FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES is again produced by Tim Henwood and mixed by Ricki Rae (Baby Animals) at Lighthill studios.
As always POTK kick ass here with killer guitars supplied by Leigh Maden, Seany Johnston and Henwood, but the energy screaming from the speakers and hitting you in the face is that of the rhythm section, Cameron Mcglinchey on drums and Anthony Licciardi on bass. It’s like a rock n roll steam roller flattening everything in it’s path.
If you like dirty rock n roll Get your ears around ‘Friends In Low Places’ by Palace Of The King and prepare yourself for the full album later in 2023.
Following hot on the heels of their stomping I’M SORRY BLUES single, PALACE OF THE KING keep dropping new material and this time it’s a magically dark, heavy blues/psych influenced track called DEAD END BLUES.
Having toured the world multiple times as headliner and with Airbourne, Rose Tattoo, The Angels, Baby Animals, Tea party, The Screaming Jets, Endless Boogie, Nick Oliveri and many more, the band are really getting down and dirty in the studio and building a huge inspired repertoire to draw from for future tours.
DEAD END BLUES is produced by the bands front man, Tim Henwood who also sings up a storm and the track also features some incredible harmonica shredding from Leigh Maden and a fantastic spacey keyboard solo from the always inspiring Seany Johnston. Of course Cameron McGlinchey on the drums and Anthony Licciardi round out the track with a killer powerhouse performance as always.
The film clip to this track is also worth checking out and created by the talented people at Escape Animation.
Get your ears around ‘Dead End Blues’ by Palace Of The King and prepare yourself for the full album later in 2023.
After releasing 3 albums, 2 EP’s and touring the world multiple times as headliner and with Airbourne, and touring Australia constantly with Rose Tattoo, The Angels, Baby Animals, Tea party, The Screaming Jets, Endless Boogie, Nick Oliveri and many more, PALACE OF THE KING return with a blistering new hard rock track which sees the band back on the airwaves in top form sounding fresh and re-energised.
I’m Sorry Blues features new production elements from Tim Henwood showing that POTK is far from the scrap heap and ready to rock well into the future. Henwood snarls out a killer bluesy rock vocal as only he can, sounding classic rock and modern young and edgy all at the same time. Robert Plant, Josh Kiszka and Steve Marriot would all be proud.
The drums by Cameron McGlinchey are insanely good and full of energy. McGlinchey joined the band after returning from Europe in 2016, and after hearing the previous POTK singles featuring Mcglinchey, it’s obvious to hear his almost Rage Against The Machine style influence on the band and that he is bringing an incredible amount of energy to ‘I’m Sorry Blues’.
Of course, the foundation for any Palace Of The King record is the always inspired and amazing Seany Johnston who plays both keys and guitar on this track like a hybrid of Jimi Hendrix and John Lord combined into one fantastic package of beautiful rock n roll music.
Anthony Licciardi lays down the bass along with McGlinchey in such a brutal, forceful way it’s easy to see why he has such a reputation as a force of nature at POTK gigs. When the band is cranking Licciardi slams the bass and when things get funky, he’s right there with McGlinchey laying it down.
2022 and the forthcoming album sees the return of the great and powerful Leigh Maden to POTK after sitting on the bench throughout the Get Right With Your Maker album and tour. Maden’s soulful style and retro feel is a welcome return to the band, and one can’t help but feel there’s a magic that has come along for the ride.
PALACE OF THE KING have released their killer new single ‘Tell It Like It Is’, out now on Devils Music Records.
The new single was written and recorded before the shit hit the fan during the antipodean summer, however Henwood’s lyric seems almost prophetic. It’s a finger to the forehead stomper that demands attention and every bit as fabulous as you’d expect from this superb band!
Check out the new video here:
Produced by POTK singer/guitarist Tim Henwood, it’s obvious he has the great Mike Chapman (Suzi Quatro, Blondie, The Sweet) to thank for his production style here.
Mixing duties have been masterfully performed by Jonathan Burnside (Clutch, Fu Manchu, Nirvana, Grinspoon, Living End) taking the energy of the track to the next level and bringing it kicking and screaming into the modern era. In these crazy times, music just might help you get through. Even if it’s just for 3:27.
Let me ‘tell you like it is’. If POTK are anything to go by, rock and roll is still here in the middle of this shit fight, and it’ll still be here when it’s all over.
PALACE OF THE KING have released their single & video for ‘Move Through The Fire’, out now on Golden Robot Records. Furthermore the band will join KISS on 26th November at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Many doomsayers have been writing rock’s obituary. But they obviously forgot to tell Melbourne band Palace Of The King. During the past few years, Palace Of The King have played hundreds of gigs all around the world and released two EPs and three acclaimed albums, with a fourth on the way.
The editor of The Age’s entertainment section, Martin Boulton, applauded the band’s blistering debut, White Bird/Burn The Sky. In a four-star rave, he wrote, “Just a little over two years into life as a band, Palace Of The King have played a staggering 200-plus shows. All that time on stage and hanging out together has honed a mighty sound hellbent on rattling the rafters, shaking speakers and, quite frankly, emulating their many obvious influences.”
Yep, Palace Of The King give a nod and a wink to the classics. As they declared in the closing cut on their debut album, “Don’t go changin’ things if it ain’t broke.” But they’ve also forged their own potent sound, with thundering riffs, mighty grooves and glass-shattering vocals.
How the Palace Of The King was built is a tale worth re-telling. At the end of 2012, the band approached Tim Henwood after seeing him sing with former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick. The guys needed a singer; Tim had no intention of joining another band but offered to help them find a frontman. Then Tim played the instrumental versions of the songs that ended up on the first EP. “When I heard the tunes, I thought, ‘I’m not gonna help anyone else get this gig!’”
Tim added his vocals, and returned the songs with a two-word message: “I’m in.”
The Palace Of The King live show was instantly embraced by rock fans. The Australian Musician Network covered one of the band’s early gigs. “These songs don’t really fit into a single genre,” the reviewer stated. “Except maybe ‘kick arse’!” And Melbourne’s Beat magazine said simply, “Palace Of The King set a new standard in Aussie hard rock.”
Palace Of The King dig the raves, but this is one band that’s more than happy to let the music do all the talking. Their message is loud and proud. They believe in the power of rock.
After touring Australia with Rose Tattoo in 2018, Palace Of The King are reuniting with the rock ’n’ roll outlaws and returning to Europe in March 2020 for a monstrous run of dates.
Palace Of The King’s fourth album will coincide with the tour. As Joel O’Keeffe, Airbourne’s lead singer and guitarist, declared: “They are the real f*ckin’ deal and I can’t wait to see them setting fire to Europe soon!” Joel loves Palace Of The King so much, he poached the band’s guitarist, Matthew “Harri” Harrison – the ultimate compliment. After more than 700 gigs, including three headlining tours to Europe, Palace Of The King are road-hardened and ready to rock. Anywhere, anytime.
Less than twelve months after releasing their critically-acclaimed debut album, Melbourne-based rock n’ roll nomads PALACE OF THE KING are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their second full-length album, “Valles Marineris”.
Set to land on 15th July 2016 via Listenable Records, “Valles Marineris” deepens Palace Of The King’s footprint on the international rock music scene by expanding on the “raw, energetic, imaginative and boundary-pushing” (Dedicated Rocker Society) qualities of their debut through an all-new 10 track collection of blues and psych-infused hard rock.
Led by the bruising gospel-tinged riffathon of ‘Let The Blood Run Free’, “Valles Marineris” is both eclectic and unrelenting right through to the final eerie piano fadeout of album closer ‘Into The Black’.
Vocalist Tim Henwood comments “I feel like we’re really honing in on our own distinctive sound now. I love our early recordings but after travelling around the world and playing over 300 shows in our first three years as a band, we’re growing and evolving. It’s real, it’s from the heart and we can’t wait to let this one out of the box.”
Having always placed equal importance on the visual component of each release, the band once again enlisted award-winning tattoo artist Kristian Kimonides for the album artwork, whose original painting was inspired by the music and lyrics of “Valles Marineris”.
With extensive tour dates already scheduled in Australia, USA and Europe, 2016 is set to be Palace Of The King’s best and most prolific year yet.

About Palace Of The King:
Formed in late 2012, Palace Of The King – nameless at that point – quickly recorded a 3 track demo and developed the vision of a 6-piece blues-infused rock and roll band. Far from a grave-robbing retro trip, Palace Of The King has just as much in common with Rival Sons, Graveyard and Jack White as they do Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Remember when bands released an album a year and toured ’til the wheels fell off the tour van?
Having spent their formative years storming stages in every corner of Australia – alongside bands as varied as Airbourne and The Tea Party – and priming themselves for an international assault, Palace Of The King took their finely-honed live show through Europe in October 2015. Armed with 2 EP’s, a full-length vinyl LP and now a second full length studio album; this is a band that has earned their stripes and wear them with pride.
Now in 2016 the band unveil “Valles Marineris” which is set to land on 15th July 2016 (Europe/UK) via Listenable Records. “Valles Marineris” deepens Palace Of The King’s footprint on the international rock music scene by expanding on the “raw, energetic, imaginative and boundary-pushing” (Dedicated Rocker Society) qualities of their debut album through an all- new 10 track collection of blues and psych-infused hard rock. Led by the bruising gospel-tinged riffathon of ‘Let The Blood Run Free’, “Valles Marineris” is both eclectic and unrelenting right through to the final eerie piano fadeout of album closer ‘Into The Black’.
The ‘freight train’ metaphor may be overused and stale. But you’d be hard-pressed to find one that is better-suited to a band that has played constantly, released a mountain of music and expanded their markets at such a prolific rate. With extensive tour dates already scheduled in Australia, USA and Europe, 2016 is set to be Palace Of The King’s most productive year to date.
