FROZEN CROWN Release New Album “Call of the North”

FROZEN CROWN have released their new album “Call of the North”, out now via Scarlet Records.

‘Call of the North’ is the fourth Frozen Crown album, consolidating their sound while bringing at the same time unseen features on the table (like acoustic ballads and epic choirs), where Power Metal meets old-school Speed and classic Heavy Metal in a modern fashion, with a bombastic production highlighting opulent orchestrations and harmonies.

The Italian band comes back stronger than ever, with the most thoughtful yet the catchiest of their works, bringing along memorable refrains, heavy downtuned guitar riffs and intricate symphonic parts, tied together by a tense and epic battlefield atmosphere.

Being Frozen Crown’s most mature album, ‘Call of the North’ is the ideal soundtrack to a long journey in a frozen, forgotten land, through battle chants and war hymns, and defines the sound pushing all their trademark elements to a new level of complexity, without forgetting the easy to remember hooks the fans are used to.

  • artwork by the band’s leader and songwriter Federico Mondelli (Be The Wolf, Volturian, Nocturna)
  • aesthetically inspired by TV series like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Vikings’
  • licensed in Japan by Marquee/Avalon

SMASHED GLADYS Release “Raw” Album on Vinyl

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SMASHED GLADYS. Leave a comment

After releasing the album digitally in early October, SMASHED GLADYS have just announced that RAW is officially available for purchase on a limited edition double LP via Golden Robot Records.

Smashed Gladys was the band that built the scene, and literally the stage, at The Cat Club in 1980s New York. They had a bold sound that caught the attention of major labels and top-notch management when they released their self-titled debut in 1985. The follow up, Social Intercourse, was ahead of the curve with raunchy lyrics sung by an unapologetic front woman, Sally Cato. She and guitarist Bart Lewis had come to New York from Toronto to take on the world, and they did, until sands shifted in the music business, a band member overdosed, and Sally and Bart went their separate ways.

Fast forward to 2020. Bart had been teaching music when the pandemic hit. With the world at a standstill, he recalled unreleased demos and the songs the band had recorded with Gene Simmons of KISS. He thought about how, in this moment, the force of a singer like Sally would be fully embraced.

Then, in May of 2020 Sally Cato passed away.

Bart knew that he had to take the roughs he had on hand, source the rest (some of which were found behind fireplace bricks!) and put together an incredible team to bring forward this tribute to Sally. The result of that effort, and what would be her final recorded work, is the new Smashed Gladys album, Raw.

Bart reached out to Gene Simmons who gave his blessing, and then set out to bring a talented cast of players, engineers and mixers together to realize this vision.
Simmons has been an ongoing supporter of the band, commenting “I’ve always been a fan of Smashed Gladys – particularly Sally‘s voice and persona, and that does not take into account a really solid musical unit. As good as anything that’s out there certainly. Smashed Gladys is as cool as it gets.”
The original recordings with Sally, Bart, Matt Steluto and bass players Mark Sliker, Fernando Rosario Jr, and Ken Fox were enhanced with Toronto native Victor D’Arsie on keyboards and bass. Mark Dearnley, who produced the first Smashed Gladys album, returned to mix six of the tracks, while John Catto, guitar player for The Diodes and a lifelong friend of Sally’s, mixed five tunes. The four songs mixed by Gene Simmons and the three mixed by Sally herself round out this powerful collaboration.

The album cover graphic is an original illustration by Sally Cato with the album and CD art directed by Anthony Feyer, who is a New York/Toronto artist and another long time friend of Sally Cato.

TANITH Release New Album “Voyage” on April 21st, Share Video for First Single

New York City’s TANITH – Russ Tippins (guitars, vocals), Cindy Maynard (bass, vocals), and Keith Robinson (drums) – have announced their new album Voyage, out April 21 via Metal Blade. Pre-order it here: metalblade.com/tanith

The album was recorded and mastered on 24-track analog tape and has never been digitized from recording to pressing.

Also, fans will recognize Tippins from NWOBHM legends, Satan.

Today, the band has shared the video for first single “Snow Tiger.” Watch it below.

“We are super stoked for everyone to hear this track as it’s one of our favorites from the album. We really tried to up the ante with this one! As for the video, we wanted to share a glimpse of how we made this record. It really captures the spirit of our entire time in the studio.“

VOYAGE TRACK LISTING:
01. Snow Tiger
02. Falling Wizard
03. Olympus by Dawn
04. Architects of Time
05. Adrasteia
06. Mother of Exile
07. Seven Moons (Galantia Pt. 2)
08. Flame
09. Never Look Back

The record will be available digitally, on CD, and via multiple vinyl variants.

ABOUT TANITH:
There is perhaps no band keeping the spirit and sound of ’70s hard rock and heavy metal alive more so than Tanith.

Formed in 2017, the band embraced that era wholeheartedly, resulting in 2019’s aptly titled In Another Time, which instantly earned cult status and put them on the map. Now, they return with Voyage, picking up where they left off and once again demonstrating their mastery when it comes to this niche. “I wanted more of the same but different in some marginal way,” explains vocalist/guitarist Russ Tippins (also of Satan). “Voyage is the sound of the universe speaking to mankind through the medium of Tanith. Or, if you like, twin-guitar heavy rock with dual singers which, if you grew up in the 1970s, will make you want to bounce over to the nearest record store. On a space hopper.“

While their debut came together easily, this time around there were hurdles to overcome, first and foremost the COVID-19 lockdown, which geographically split up the band, Tippins living in the UK while vocalist/bassist Cindy Maynard and drummer Keith Robinson dwelt in Brooklyn. Once life finally returned to “normal” and they were ready to record, they were hit by another bombshell with guitarist Charlie Newton abruptly bowing out of the band the day before tracking began.

“Speaking as one part of a two-guitar band, it felt like trying to fly with one wing,” says Tippins. “It happened so suddenly we were dumbstruck. I guess we sat around for a few days thinking he was sure to walk through the door at any moment. But soon enough we realized we’d have to try to find a way to make this record without Charlie and I’m not just talking about laying down his lines. It’s about the shared dream we had with him. The conviction he brought to that dream. The four-way belief now reduced to three.“

Returning to Brooklyn’s Excello Recording and engineer Hugh Pool – the same combination used for tracking In Another Time – the band produced the album themselves, with Pool mixing. The sessions were a fun time for Tanith, again recording to tape rather than digital and utilizing vintage amps and speakers to find the best possible sounds for the instruments. “Just having the time every day all day to be in the music was a big deal and all of our energy went into this project even after leaving the studio,” says Maynard. “We were thinking and breathing the music, constantly working on parts and ideas. We came in well prepared overall, and that gave us time to try out different sounds for different parts to get just the thing we were looking for.” Given that they established themselves as a twin-guitar band on their debut they also brought in an extra player, Andee Blacksugar, best known for touring with Peter Murphy and as a member of KMFDM, now also a member of Blondie, who Robinson had played with before.

With the record fully realized, the band are eager for people to hear it, and they are confident that it is worth taking the time to listen to it – and experience it – in all its old school glory. Tippins says, “I can think of only two other rock bands in the entire world right now that records onto 24-track analog tape. If all you’ve ever known is digitally produced music you really need to listen to Voyage on vinyl and experience the difference. And I’m not talking about vinyl pressed from masters recorded on Pro Tools. At no point from tracking to pressing has any of the music on Voyage been digitized. It will open your eyes.”

SCREAMACHINE Release New album “Church Of The Scream” on May 12th, Reveal First Single + Video

Riff-tastic Italian metallers ScreaMachine have announced the upcoming release of their second full-length studio album, “Church Of The Scream” on May 12, 2023. This molten metal album serves as a follow-up to their self-titled debut released via Frontiers Music Srl in 2021. This will be the first full-length album to feature the band’s new guitarist Edoardo Taddei, who made his debut on the band’s ‘Borderline’ EP. A new single and video, ‘The Crimson Legacy’ is out today.

Pre-order/save “Church Of The Scream” HERE: https://orcd.co/screamachine23

Hailing from Rome, Italy, ScreamMachine is a driving heavy metal force whose blazing sound is inspired by titans like Judas Priest, Metallica, Savatage, and Accept. Even if the guys from ScreaMachine are in love with that legendary 80’s metal sound, they are not living in the past. Their aim is to deliver an aggressive and traditional heavy metal sound blended with a modern production and songwriting. The members of the band are certainly no strangers to the metal scene, as respected Italian acts like Stormlord, Kaledon, and Lunarsea, all of whom have been active since the ‘90’s with wide discographies and hundreds of gigs under their belts, appear on their collective resumes.

Their self-titled debut album, which featured guest appearances from Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Death, Iced Earth, Spirits Of Fire, etc.), Herbie Langhans (Firewind, Avantasia, Sonic Haven), Simone Mularoni (DGM), Massimiliano Pagliuso (Novembre), Andrea Angelini (Stormlord), and Francesco Mattei (Noveria), was a red hot stake in the ground to firmly establish themselves as wavers of the traditional heavy metal flag.

In 2022, the talented shredder Edoardo Taddei, one of the younger rising guitar heroes of current times, joined the band for the recording of the band’s first EP, “Borderline”. The EP, intended as a treat for fans while they waited for the new full-length album, features four songs including the blazing title track, which has an accompanying music video, and an acoustic version of the single “The Metal Monster” featuring Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Temperance) from their debut album.

Their new album, “Church Of The Scream” further cements ScreaMachine’s status as enduring metal warriors. The sound of the band has developed, yet remains loyal to their roots. Ten brand new hymns of loud, including the crushing heavy metal music like the majestic “The Epic of Defeat” featuring Davide “Damna” Moras (Elvenking) on guest vocals, the furiously energetic title track, and the metal anthem “The Crimson Legacy”, will have you worshipping at the altar of the “Church Of The Scream”.

“Church Of The Scream” tracklisting:

  1. The Crimson Legacy
  2. Church Of The Scream
  3. Night Asylum
  4. Revenge Walker
  5. Met(H)Aldone
  6. Flag Of Damnation
  7. Occam’s Failure
  8. Pest Case Scenario
  9. Deflagrator
  10. The Epic Of Defeat

Line-Up:
Valerio “The Brave” Caricchio – Vocals
Francesco Bucci – Bass
Edoardo Taddei – Lead Guitars
Paolo Campitelli – Rhythm & Lead Guitars
Alfonso “Fo” Corace – Drums

On album number eight, The Wretched; The Ruinous, UNEARTH not merely continues to amp-up their metal meets hardcore intensities, but they also exceed themselves with a record that incorporates elements of classic UNEARTH offerings dating back to 2004’s “breakthrough” The Oncoming Storm, while exploring beyond the recent back-to-basics promise of 2018’s Extinction(s). For UNEARTH’s founding mainstays, Trevor Phipps and guitarist Buz McGrath, it feels like the beginning of a new chapter. “Buz took the entire pandemic to write these songs,” says Trevor. “He pushed himself to get out of his comfort zone and explore what UNEARTH is, both past and present. Buz adding these new elements and killer song structures inspired me to be more diverse vocally. The Wretched; the Ruinous is still UNEARTH, but it’s also the most dynamic record we’ve ever done.”

Teaming again with Extinction(s) producer, Will Putney (Body Count, Thy Art Is Murder), the goal was simple: create the definitive UNEARTH record. From the scathing title track opener to the explosive “Cremation of the Living”, the brooding “Mother Betrayal” to the album’s riff-violent closer, “Theaters of War”, The Wretched; The Ruinous is UNEARTH pulling out all the stops. “There’s certain songs where you can really hear the band’s hardcore roots,” explains Trevor. “The track ‘Dawn of the Militant’ is a true mix of metal and heavy hardcore, that to me define what the term ‘metalcore’ truly is. For the bulk of this record though, the metal, aggression, and technicality are reminiscent of our Watchers of Rule (2014) album. All of the ingredients of UNEARTH are present on these songs, but the band continues to explore new territories as writers and players.”

The Wretched; The Ruinous is a turning point moment for UNEARTH. It’s first album in their canon recorded without guitarist Ken Susi, who mutually parted with the band in 2022. Trevor shares, “It simply came time for Unearth and Ken to take a break from working together. He’ll always be a large part of the story of this band, and we wish him the best on all of his endeavors”

The frontman makes no bones about the arduous writing process for The Wretched; The Ruinous. “Coming out of the pandemic I found myself struggling to find my zone of creativity with writing, but I pushed through, and once I found it things caught fire.” Phipps has never been one to shy away from often scathing social commentary. “Lyrically, it’s a warning shot record,” Trevor continues. “I’ve spoken about the decline of our environment by Mankind’s hand dating back to our first record in 2001, and I’ve continued to write about the environmental crisis throughout our entire career. We are now at a tipping point with Mother Nature and our place on this planet, and I had to devote the entirety of this album to what is happening around us. This album is a collection of stories of what is happening, and what is to come, if we do not make monstrous changes to how we treat our only home.”

“The Wretched; The Ruinous is about the eight billion people on this planet,” echoes the frontman of UNEARTH’s latest state of the world address. “We’ve created a man-made mass extinction event and have been too slow to correct our faults. Extreme weather, drought, famine, disease, erosion of land, culture wars, civil wars, wars for natural resources, and the displacement of billions of people, is all a current reality. This isn’t a future problem; it is a now problem and I take this record to talk about it. As a species we are very quickly turning our once Garden of Eden into our future hellscape.”

“It’s not all devastation and gloom though,” adds Phipps. “On the track ‘Call of Existence’ I talk about how we can turn this around with swift, drastic changes to our emissions and consumption of natural resources. There is a responsible way forward that will benefit all life on our planet, and we have to embrace and act on that responsibility now.”

SATAN released their sixth full length album, Earth Infernal, via Metal Blade last April. Earth Infernal is a product of the times that birthed it and could only be the work of SATAN. Having churned out cutting edge heavy metal throughout the ’80s – and reunited in 2011 – the record maintains the high standard of musicianship the band set long ago set, and it is perhaps their timeliest release. “For two years, the world has been preoccupied with politics and pandemics and while we were all looking the other way our planet has continued to get hotter,” said guitarist Russ Tippins upon the record’s release. “Our Earth is now infernally hot. Almost irreversibly so. We are on a one-way trip to Hell and dragging our children along with us. Yes, SATAN has something to say about global warming.” The album entered the German Charts on position 12, the highest chart entry ever for the band.
