American heavy stoner-rock band CARBELLION just revealed a new music video for their latest single “Pity the Backseat“. This is the third music video & single taken from their upcoming LP album Weapons of Choice which will be released on March 17, 2023 via Eclipse Records. The video was directed by Joel Nilsson. The album was produced by Carbellion and Chris Djuricic (Nonpoint, Soil, Novembers Doom) and mastered by Andy VanDette (Beastie Boys, Porcupine Tree, Rush).

Pity the Back Seat is my love letter to S.E. (Susan Eloise) Hinton’s novel The Outsiders published in 1967, as well as the subsequent motion picture directed by Francis Ford Coppola released in 1983″ says drummer Brent Nimz. “The lyrics are based on bits of dialogue from the screenplay and movie. I read this novel in the 7th grade around age 12 and after watched the movie. The story affected me on a personal level like no other novel or movie had before. I found myself connecting with the characters as if they were kids from my own neighborhood. The story about the rich kids (Socials or “Socs”) from one side of the tracks and the poor kids (Greasers) from the other side finding unity over shared hardships and events are the common threads that connect with readers for generations. I set out to write a song that I believe all of us Greasers can stand behind.  Fans of the novel and movie, this song was written for you. It’s a simple rock ‘n roll song with a lot of heart.” Brent continues, “The live footage in the music video for “Pity the Back Seat” was shot in our rehearsal room where all the songs on the ‘Weapons of Choice’ album were written, while the street scenes in the music video were shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma where The Outsiders movie was actually filmed. The video includes footage of all the major locations used in the movie: the Circle Cinema which appeared as the movie house Ponyboy Curtis visits at the beginning of the film, the DX station where Sodapop Curtis and Steve worked, and exterior shots of the Curtis brothers’ house, which is now The Outsiders House Museum. The Admiral Twin drive-in theater, also shown in the music video, was where Cherry Vallance, a Soc, famously throws her soda in Greaser Dally’s face after inappropriate comments about the color of her hair.  The title of the song “Pity the Back Seat” was pulled from the drive-in scene where Two-Bit breaks a bottle on a chain link fence, pitches it to Ponyboy and then pulls out his switchblade in response to a couple loud-mouthed Socs scolding Cherry for walking with a few Greasers.”

Carbellion’s new album entitled Weapons of Choice Is the band’s third full-length album pulls from nearly twenty years of experience and lessons learned by fire to deliver the group’s most compelling release to date. The ten-song collection brings together the band’s strongest and most cohesive material, though its inception was rather unusual. Lyrically, the album finds Carbellion working to engage its audience. “I want to make people think,” Kellenberger states. “We’ve never been great at writing straightforward songs. Translating the thoughts and ideas in my head is a complicated process, but an exciting one. These songs are definitely fun and we write them with the intention of making people have a good time, especially with the live show, but this record more than any other also aims to make people think. Don’t take everything at face value. Nothing in this life is black and white. The truth is almost always somewhere in the middle.” “We started the record before COVID,” says Kellenberger. “The pandemic made us stop temporarily, but we found a way to work together digitally during that time. That allowed us to write the record, which we took to the studio as material was finished, so some songs were recorded two years before others, but it was a constant creation process”. With the now album complete, Carbellion is taking stock of its place in the rock ecosystem. After nearly two decades and half a dozen releases, the Wisconsin bad boys feel they are just now hitting their stride.

Today, SBS and production partner Blink TV are proud to announce the artist who will represent Australia at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool (UK) is none other than Perth’s fearless, riff-laden, genre-bending band VOYAGER! The band will be entering their electrifying new single, “Promise,” which is now streaming along with a music video, at THIS LOCATION.

“As a long-time Eurovision fan, this is the pinnacle – Voyager gets to play the greatest show on earth!” exclaims Voyager frontman Danny Estrin. “Our song ‘Promise’ is made for the Eurovision stage and collectively we feel it’s one of our best yet. We filmed the music video in both the city of Perth and beautiful parts of Western Australia to showcase the majestic beauty of our home state. Eurovisionation, we are coming!!!”

SBS Head of Entertainment Emily Griggs adds, “Voyager bring together my love for the 80’s and catchy lyrics that you can’t stop singing. I can’t wait to see Eurovision fans the world over embrace them as much as Aussie crowds have. Voyager have been determined to get centre stage for the biggest song contest in the world and SBS know they will bring that grit with them along with a whole lot of fun. Look out Europe, the Aussies are coming!”

Director of Blink TV Paul Clarke comments, “‘Promise’ is a song that delivers in spades, from a band that never fails to impress. From the very first listen I knew it was something special – an epic, cinematic track that will take listeners on an anthemic rock voyage all the way to the Eurovision stage. This year, Australia’s hopes are in the masterful hands of a band for the first time ever, and I can’t wait for Voyager to rock your socks off in Liverpool.”

“Promise” can be streamed everywhere HERE.

Stay tuned to the SBS Eurovision website for updates HERE.

The opening line of Voyager’s 2023 Eurovision song “Promise” is somewhat prophetic. As vocalist Danny Estrin belts out the lyric, “Have you ever done anything like this before?” audiences across the globe will realize they haven’t. For the first time ever, a band will represent the country – and not just any band – a band with soaring melodies, masterful riffs, keytar solos, powerhouse rhythms, and enough charisma to take on the world.

Shattering expectations, their resilience and determination has finally paid off. Theirs is a story of passion, perseverance, and patience. The band has been throwing their hat in the ring for the Eurovision Song Contest since Australia announced its participation back in 2015. Eight years later, they have prospered, overcome, and are now victorious. Voyager are a band who take everything in their stride, over the years garnering a strong fanbase near and far, continuing to vie for their Eurovision dream. At last year’s Eurovision – Australia Decides, they took out second place in a nail-biting finish, leading the public vote with their song “Dreamer.”

Now, Voyager are about to set sail Merseyside with their song “Promise;” an epic, progressive pop metal track that transports the listener on an emotive story of adventure and redemption. Its stunning music video was captured in the region of Western Australia’s mid-west Kalbarri that boasts the pink ethereal Hutt Lagoon, and Kalbarri National Park, where there are epic gorges and rock formations including Nature’s Window.

Blending New Romantic, ‘80s infused vocals with technical, melodic framework, groovy basslines, bombastic drums, and what is fast becoming the band’s signature instrument, the keytar, it’s sure to lift the roof off Pier Head, Liverpool. They have toured the world many times over, with an influx of fans on their latest European tour won over by their electric live performances.

Voyager will soon embark on their eighth album cycle, but before they can begin their next chapter, they must first take on the epic battle they have long been fighting for.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy, with their song Stefania. This year, the United Kingdom will host the competition on Ukraine’s behalf with the theme United by Music. This is the ninth time the United Kingdom will host Eurovision and the fifth time it’s hosted for other countries due to financial or capacity issues.

SBS’s exclusive coverage will once again be in the capable hands of music buff Myf Warhurst and comedian Joel Creasey. This year marks 40 years of SBS broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest to all Australians, and the eighth year Australia has participated in the event.

New Versions of LARRY WALLIS’ MOTÖRHEAD-esque Metal Anthem ‘Leather Forever’ Hit the Road

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 22, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Larry Wallis, MOTÖRHEAD. Leave a comment

Cleopatra Records announce the dynamic return of LARRY WALLIS, the legendary co-founder of MOTÖRHEAD and a former member of UFO, in the shape of two dramatic fresh remixes of one of his most beloved compositions, the metal anthem “Leather Forever.”

A savage reminder of one of British metal’s true unsung heroes, “Leather Forever” spotlights not only the excoriating guitar that was Wallis’s trademark, but also the songwriting that underpinned the very best of early Motörhead. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine “Leather Forever” lining up alongside any of them. Talking a few years before his death in 2019, Larry remembered writing it “around the same time” that he was a member of Motörhead, before recording it in late 1977 as a possible follow-up to his solo hit “Police Car.”

Even before then, however, Larry was regarded among the heaviest guitar players around, as he emerged from the same London underground scene that birthed Hawkwind and more, to join UFO in 1972.

His stay was relatively brief before he left to lead the resurgent Pink Fairies (he was ultimately replaced by Michael Schenker). But the mark Larry made on UFO remains indelible – helping the band as it shifted away from the space rock of their earliest albums and towards the reborn hard blues-rock of Phenomenon.

Three years later, after Lemmy was sacked from Hawkwind, Larry was the first guitarist he called as he pieced together the original Motörhead, the most primal of all that band’s incarnations.

With Motörhead swiftly grasping the title of “the dirtiest rock’n’roll band in the world” (“If we moved in next door, your lawn would die,” as Lemmy put it), this original line-up didn’t last long – a dozen or so gigs, and the still-exhilarating On Parole album (titled after one of Larry’s songs).

But even within that too-brief period, Larry planted the sonic seeds that would soon be blossoming across such albums as Bomber and Overkill, and writing some of their best loved early numbers, too – “On Parole” was joined on the album by “City Kids,” “Vibrator” and “Fools.” Had the line-up only lasted a little longer, “Leather Forever” would effortlessly have taken its place alongside them.

Now it’s back, as two of today’s most incendiary remixers – Jurgen Engler of Die Krupps, and Rene D La Muerte of The Brains – re-imagine it in full metal motorcycle jacket, and set one of Larry’s most electrifying riffs, and most compulsive battlecries loose on the streets once again.

Your ears have been warned.

ROYAL AUTUMN Celebrate New Album “Life Is Strangely Accidental” with New Single ‘Thin And Blond’

ROYAL AUTUMN are carrying a torch in a time of darkness.

Following an exclusive album launch event earlier this month, five-piece Rock force,  Royal Autumn celebrate the release of their forthcoming new studio album, ‘Life is Strangely Accidental’ on February 23rd, with their new single ‘Thin And Blond’.

The follow-up to 2018’s Music for The Bourgeoisie” EP saw the Dublin-based five-piece carve out a reputation known for their formidable live shows, and captivating melodic compositions that harness the true spirit of quality songwriting. .

With the impact of the lockdown in 2020, the band found themselves with some unexpected extra time on their hands, and began working tirelessly on new material, cultivating countless tracks that eventually became their, ‘Life is Strangely Accidental’ album (Release date: 23 Feb 2023).

Speaking of the new single, vocalist Neill Marshall says:
“It’s a very special song as it’s the first time the five of us wrote together. Alina (Keys) brought in the chords, originally it was SUPER slow, it first morphed into a naff ‘Parisian Walkways’ for a week or two. Then Adam and I started messing around with the duelling guitar vibrato/bends and we picked up the pace, added a disco verse & everything fell into place.
It’s a song that appears to illustrate a young man (ergo ‘Blond’ rather than ‘Blonde’), feeling wronged via getting teased by a person he admired from afar, his wildest dreams being a non-platonic outcome with said person. The rejection or…lack of a promising starting point in the ‘relationship’ takes a drastic toll on the skinny, fair-haired fella before long.
”

‘Life is Strangely Accidental’ (aka ‘L.I.S.A’.) – Access the track here.
‘Take it to the Grave’  – Access the track here.

Influenced by everyone from Tom Petty, and Fleetwood Mac to Judas Priest, and Manic Street Preachers, with a philosophy of complete freedom, Royal Autumn take pride in their “We write whatever we feel like writing” approach.

This environment fosters a deadly-serious approach to the art of songwriting while ensuring that flippancy, and fun are never left behind. Royal Autumn are dynamic, delivering everything from emotional contemporary songs, such as ‘Say Goodbye’, and ‘Lifetime’, too fast heavy burners like, “Thin + Blond’, and ‘Bloody Tree’.

Album track listing:
‘Watcha Got’

‘Die For You’
‘Hide The Night’
‘I’ve Got a Hole on You

SUBWAY TO SALLY Release Third Single & Official Music Video ‘Ihr kriegt uns nie’

With their 14th studio album Himmelfahrt, SUBWAY TO SALLY present a new beginning and departure. The German folk rock pioneers unveil their new album on March 24th, 2023 via Napalm Records, celebrating hope and life together with their fans!

The third single from the new album, “Ihr kriegt uns nie” (You’ll never get us) underlines the album’s upbeat mood and convinces with captivating violin parts and gripping riffs. Eric Fish’s haunting voice calls for freedom, while the atmospheric music video perfectly underscores the song. Just like in the music video, the band defies all obstacles they have faced during the journey of life as they stand strong together to continue persevering onwards.

SUBWAY TO SALLY states on their new album:
“The new album marks a turning point. Himmelfahrt represents the ending and a new beginning at the same time. The work on the songs for Himmelfahrt began long before Corona, shortly after the release of the last album HEY!. This album addressed a broken world, the destructive treatment of people with their own kind and the environment in which they live. As the pandemic hit the world, most of the album seemed prophetic and depressing. All the material created up to that point had to be put to the test and was disposed of as outmoded.”

SUBWAY TO SALLY have always dealt with the dark sides of the human soul with relish. Over the years, a lot of blood has been spilled and murdered for love. But the lust for doom is an attitude that works well when a fully fueled helicopter is waiting on the roof to carry us away from the zombie apocalypse.

For the first time in the thirty years of the band’s history, we had to ask ourselves if it wasn’t time to celebrate hope. Hope is fuel for the future, and so many songs on the new album are about departure and journey, about reaching out to others to lead them from the deepest depths into the light. However, the most current events in the world put this hope to a difficult test. This explains the downer, the bitterness that clouds hope. That’s why God had to say a word on the album, to vent this disappointment in his work.”
