March 24, 2023 will see death metal force DISCREATION release their darkest album to date. Iron Times was created during the Corona pandemic and under the impression of a then impending, now ongoing war in the middle of Europe, the band’s sixth full-length was inspired by the countless wars and turning points in history.

Iron Times is also a turning point for the band, because with Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth) DISCREATION welcomed a true death metal legend to their ranks. His distinctive voice perfectly matches with the new songs, while blast attacks, tank grooves, bleak melodies and grim determination mark DISCREATION‘s own variant of German death metal.

Give ear, as today, the five-piece premiered a music video for the album title track, Iron Times:

Guitarist Sebastian Schilling comments: “‘Iron Times’ gets straight to the point and perfectly captures the dark mood of our new album. At the same time, ‘Iron Times’ was the first song written after a break from songwriting and set the direction for the new record. So it comes full circle, that ‘Iron Times’ is now also the first new song that we like to share with you today.”

Iron Times was produced by Alexander Krull, who gave the album an earthy yet powerful sound. The goal was to capture the band’s raw live sound and add a contemporary punch. As the first single proves, mission accomplished!

Norwegian 66CRUSHER Release New Album “Limbo” on February 17th

Welcome to your time in Limbo! This is the fourth album by Norwegian progressive thrashers 66CRUSHER, and the second one on Gymnocal Industries. Limbo will be released on February 17th. The themes this time revolve around dying, what happens after death, trench life during the first World War, a forever sailing ghost ship, and uncovering ancestral secrets.

Limbo is not a concept album, but lingering and being stuck in time or between two worlds is a red thread throughout the album. Musically the band has developed a lot from “Wanderer” (2015), but you can very much see the lineage all the way back to the 2007 debut “Truth Unmasked”. Fast and aggressive, yes, but always making room for great hooks and melodies. Never fearing to do something unexpected to throw the listeners out of their comfort zone.

The band recorded most of the album in their home studio, except drums, which were handled by Herbrand Larsen in Conclave & Earshot Studios. All vocals, keys and bass by Jarle Olsvoll. Guitars were done by Jarle and Martin Legreid. Drums by Håkon Bergstad.

Mixing and mastering by Russ Russell at Parlour Studios in UK.

American heavy metal band KING 810 released their new EP Follow My Tears to all major platforms on January 23, 2023 via King Nation! The band will be on a European/UK tour dubbed The Steppin’ Over Roaches Tour this spring with Alphawolf in support.

Stream/Download King 810 HERE

In addition, the band will be playing Bloodstock Open Air in Catton Park, Derbyshire this August!

“Over the past year I have been mentally unstable. My intentions have not been as focused as they are typically. This wasn’t obvious until I reviewed the fifty songs me and Josh wrote over the recent couple years. Only then did I realize there wasn’t the concept of a whole record here. Instead the songs played as smaller groups of frenzied schizophrenic fits. So it is likely we will come with several EPs over the year because of this. I don’t think of it as any less of a release it just feels like the best way to deliver the songs,” says David Gunn about Follow My Tears.

WATCH the official video for BRAINS ON THE ASPHALT, the first single from Follow My Tears:

Gunn adds, “This video is about digital technocracy. The demi gods that are the global hegemonies on the earth today and the religion it has grown into. The big tech hand that turns the dial influencing us to love the virtuous tribes we belong to and to hate the out-group of the “other”. Most of all it about how much we hate ourselves…”

King 810 is an American metal band from Flint, Michigan formed in 2007. Hailing from a place infamous for its crime and poverty statistics, King 810 specialize in effusive slabs of nu-metal-infused modern hard rock with elements of experimental hip-hop and dark jazz. The band’s first release was their independent EP titled Midwest Monsters in 2012, which earned them a signing with Roadrunner Records; they released their second EP titled Proem in 2014, and their Billboard-charting debut studio album Memoirs of a Murderer that same year. The following year the band would be the first metal group to collaborate with DJ Drama on a project entitled Midwest Monsters 2. The EP blended metal and rap in classic nu metal fashion and featured several hip hop artists including Grammy award winning Freddie Gibbs. In 2016 the group released their sophomore LP entitled La Petite Mort or a Conversation with God followed by an acoustic project entitled Queen. In 2018 the group would go independent for the release of their most experimental album Suicide King only to return to form with 2020’s apocalyptic AK Concerto No. 47, 11th Movement in G Major.

THOMAS LASSAR Unveils Details of Forthcoming Solo Album “From Now On”

Art Of Melody Music & Burning Minds Music Group are proud to announce all the details of “From Now On”, the first official solo album by Swedish AOR singer, keyboardist and songwriter, THOMAS LASSAR.

Thomas started to play piano as a young child, encouraged by his mother. He quickly began playing in local bands in Sweden until the late 80’s when, together with his bandmates, he formed what became then one of Sweden’s most loved, cult, AOR bands, Crystal Blue. Having worked as keyboard player and backing vocalist on the first two albums (“Out From The Blue” in 1993 and “Caught In The Game” in 1994), Thomas took the microphone duties for the third Crystal Blue album, “Detour” (released in 2003 by MTM Music). Despite highly-positive feedback from media and fans all around the world, the band split up.

After years spent performing as session musician for various artists (Last Autumn’s Dream & Charming Grace between others), Thomas felt it was time to go into the studio and start writing and recording some unreleased material, during the pandemic while the world was in lockdown. The result was ten classy AOR tracks, which Thomas sent to Burning Minds Music Group‘s A&R team for evaluation. Excited by what they heard, label manager Stefano Gottardi and A&R man, Pierpaolo “Zorro” Monti, immediately contacted Lassar to offer him a deal. The feeling was almost immediate, thanks also to Zorro and Thomas’ collaboration on the Charming Grace debut album, back in 2012.

“From Now On” is going to be one of the highlights of 2023, especially for fans of Scandinavian AOR, with a sound reminiscent of other Swedish melodic rock acts like Crystal Blue, Work Of Art, and Crossfade. It also features Rob Marcello (Danger Danger) as very special guest on three tracks. The release is scheduled on April 14, 2023 via Art Of Melody Music / Burning Minds Music Group, in perfect timing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of last Crystal Blue‘s album, “Detour”. The CD booklet features introductory liner notes written by Jörg Bonszkowski (Rock It! Magazine, Rock Avenue Radio Show), with graphics created by Aeglos Art.

The first single, “Whatever I Do”, will be launched with an official video on March 2nd.

Tracklist:

  1. When My Ship Comes In
  2. Losing Faith
  3. Whatever I Do
  4. In Control
  5. Back Where I started
  6. The Beginning Of The End
  7. The Only One
  8. Turn Back Time
  9. Take Me Higher
  10. From Now On

Virginia Beach, VA blackened death metal duo FORETOKEN are currently premiering their new single, The Wraith That Weeps, via Metal Injection, along with an accompanying lyric video by Aimed&Framed. The Wraith That Weeps is the second single to be taken from FORETOKEN’s upcoming sophomore album, Triumphs, which will be released via Prosthetic Records on March 17.

LISTEN TO THE WRAITH THAT WEEPS AND WATCH THE LYRIC VIDEO VIA METAL INJECTION HERE.
The Wraith That Weeps will be on all streaming platforms on Friday, February 10.

Speaking on the track premiere, Steve Redmond (guitar and orchestration) comments: “For this song I tried to channel my death and tech-death roots to create something dark and complex. Having Hannes Grossmann on drums really allowed me push the music to be more extreme at times and I think this track is a good example of that.”

Vocalist, Dan Cooley adds: “We’re really happy with how this song turned out as it showcases one of the things we try push in our songs, which is storytelling. The use of classical guitar and blackened death metal rhythms created an excellent canvas for us to bring a haunting story about La Llorna, The Weeping Woman, to life.”

Following their 2020 debut long player, Ruin, FORETOKEN’s latest album sees the group expand upon their foundations of meticulously lofty soundscapes, mythological narratives, and elaborate musicianship. Utilizing traditional narratives of myths, legends, and folklore from a wide range of Western and Middle Eastern origins, Triumphs examines the ignored collateral damage of the cost of victory through these established mythos.

Taking musical inspiration from melodic and tech death metal, as well as power, folk and black metal, FORETOKEN’s core sound on Triumphs is bolstered by subtle and captivating use of traditionally Scandinavian, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern instruments for atmospheric depth within the album’s 51 minute runtime. Reunited once again with Hannes Grossmann (Hate Eternal, Alkaloid, Obscura, Necrophagist, Blotted Science, and Triptykon) on drums and boasting a guest guitar appearance by The Black Dahlia Murder’s Brandon Ellis on penultimate track A Tyrant Rises As Titans Fall, FORETOKEN’s technical prowess shines through without overpowering any of the nine songs’ rhythmic charge.

Triumphs was penned throughout 2021 by both Steve Redmond (guitar and orchestration) and Dan Cooley (vocals), with the pair settling on eight original compositions and a cover of Naglfar’s I Am Vengeance. Grossmann then commenced drum tracking at his own studio, Mordor Sounds, with guitars recorded by Redmond himself and vocals captured at Trepan Studios by Tony Petrocelly, before mixing and mastering duties were placed in the accomplished hands of Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Black Dahlia Murder, and more) at Hansen Studios.

Visually tied together by portrait artist Tomas Honz’s detailed cover painting, depicting a protagonist’s journey in the aftermath of battle, Triumphs aesthetic component is a symbolic embodiment of the duo’s enduring fascination with historial consequence via a folkloric lens. Taking fables and fantasy to extreme sonic heights, FORETOKEN’s Triumphs is as lofty in ambition as it is accomplished in its musicianship and songcraft.

Triumphs tracklist:
1. Revenant of Valor
2. Demon Queller
3. The Wraith That Weeps
4. The Labors
5. Serpent Kings Venom
6. His Riastrad
7. Devil o’ the Sea
8. A Tyrant Rises as Titans Fall
9. I Am Vengeance (Naglfar cover)

FORETOKEN is:
Dan Cooley – vocals
Steve Redmond – guitar and orchestration
Hannes Grossmann – drums (recording only)

Perris Records Releases CHERRY ST. “Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet” Containing 11 Early Demos

Perris Records announces the release of the CHERRY ST. CD “Twisted, Rude & Sticky Sweet”. The CD features 11 demos that the band recorded before getting signed to JRS/BMG in 1993. After it was discovered that someone in Russia was illegally selling a bootleg CD with a version of these demos on EBAY for $140.00, Perris Records decided to release the tracks with improved sound quality and original band photos in the CD artwork. The bootleg CD artwork consists of low quality pictures and the recordings were taken off old cassette tapes sold by the band years earlier. For this release on Perris Records, the first six tracks were taken off the master DAT tapes. Tracks 7 through 11 were recorded in smaller studios as pre-production and were never intended for sale. Anthony Focx, whose credits include Ace Frehley, Buckcherry & Night Ranger, mastered all 11 tracks on this CD.

Watch below the promo music video.

Tom Mathers at Perris Records said, “This CD gives the fans a inside look with the demos recorded in 1989 before that band was signed. Having Anthony Focx master the tracks enhances the sound quality.”
