Lithuanian AORTES Reveal Upcoming Album “Devouring Gloom” & New Single

Lithuanian dark post metal act AORTES, previously known as AUTISM, have announced their new full-length album “Devouring Gloom”, which comes out on February 28, 2023. Stream their new title-track single below for a taste of the upcoming release.

AORTES says, “We are really excited to finally put out a new album. It has been quite a rough time for the band: the lineup has changed which led to the change of the sound of the band, which led to the change of the band name completely. The pandemic took over the world and put all of our plans in slow motion. At times it felt like it had been one step forward and two steps back, so it took us almost four years to make “Devouring Gloom”. But it is finally finished and it seems that with this release we have finally managed to properly channel our creative vision. This darker, more dissonant and chaotic sound felt like a natural evolution of AORTES.

The central themes of the album deal with the struggle of the overwhelming feeling of despair, hopelessness, loneliness – or as we thought of it – a gloom that surrounds and devours you. Sometimes you find the strength to fight it off, other times you admit defeat. But there is always hope.”

“Devouring Gloom” will be available on limited edition LP and digital. Pre-orders are available now via AORTES bandcamp HERE.

“Devouring Gloom” tracklist:

  1. While I Wilt
  2. Lay My Bones
  3. Devouring Gloom
  4. Something in the Way
  5. With Me Forever
  6. Crown of Nails
  7. Salvation
  8. Immersion

UK doom metal quintet WOLVES IN WINTER reveal full details of their highly anticipated album “The Calling Quiet”, to be released by ARGONAUTA Records on February 24th 2023.

Formed between lockdowns in 2020, Wolves In Winter have worked tirelessly to forge a crushing fusion of traditional and contemporary doom metal. The band is comprised of seasoned veterans from the UK heavy music underground, including former and present members of Solstice, Lazarus Blackstar, Monolith Cult, Slammer and more, effortlessly building on a wealth of experience and carving a fully realised sound and vision.

Wolves In Winter have written and recorded their debut album with Chris Fielding (CONAN) at Foel Studios. Working with Fielding has allowed them to capture enormous tones and crushing riffs. The quintet seamlessly honour doom metal traditionalists such as Cathedral and Candlemass, yet go toe to toe with contemporary favourites including Pallbearer and Windhand.

Wolves In Winter land on both sides of the coin, building dynamic, weighty and nuanced lengthy tracks that are as heavy sonically as they are emotionally. With riffs and chord progressions that are contemplative and melancholic, a subtle yet driving rhythm section, and a powerhouse lead vocal performance which brims with emotive and passionate gravelly harmonies akin to Alice In Chains, Wolves In Winter have already crafted a versatile, engrossing and powerful sound.

Gothic Rockers CATHEDRAL IN FLAMES Unveil New Single ‘Not Another Vampire Song’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on December 29, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: CATHEDRAL IN FLAMES. Leave a comment

Prague’s gothic rock band CATHEDRAL IN FLAMES have just unveiled their new single, “Not Another Vampire Song”. The single follows the release of their Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds cover of “The Weeping Song” which was well-received worldwide.

“Not Another Vampire Song” is the fastest and hardest in the band’s history. Legendary producer John Fryer (Fields of The Nephilim, Peter Murphy, Nine Inch Nails) produced the new recordings and helped the Czech gothic cowboys to the new sound.

The lyrics poke fun at typical gothic rock themes as well as stories of closed rock clubs and churches,.

“The song is based on a memory of the nineties, when we used to travel (not only to play) around Bohemia, and after a night of drinking we would go the next morning to the only place that was open (on Saturday or Sunday) at that time, so to church.

It’s also about booze, or rather about alcoholics and how after a few drinks quiet introverts turn into raging sovereign steamrollers. And how they turn into pale, hungover vampires the next day, afraid of daylight and looking in the mirror.”
 – Phil Lee Fall

“Not Another Vampire Song” is available on all major streaming platforms including Bandcamp NOW!

HUNTING GIANTS Go Berserk w/ Animated Video ‘Remnants’

Vancouver, Canada’s HUNTING GIANTS have put together a very special “Berserk” inspired animated video for their track “Remnants”, which is featured on their latest album “Mythos” released this past September. From the perspective of a hero in his final moments of life, “Remnants” explores the multi-faceted emotions and mentality it takes to sacrifice oneself for those they love. While hidden under the varying chords and melodies, this song maintains a hypnotic rhythm, which persists until the very last beat. Hunting Giants delve into the idea that death is inevitable and that the only way to truly conquer the grave is to live as an example and to inspire others into courageous action.

The band explains the song in further detail:

“For ‘Remnants”, the bass sets a frantic yet forlorn mood as the endless rhythm pounds out over vocals conveying the hopelessness of a hero who has been cornered by the demons he battles. A ghost-like wail recites the melody which the guitar previously squealed, leading to a triumphant chorus that speaks of the accomplishments our hero made in his life, which brought him to this moment. As the guitar sails out into the bridge, we are met with polyrhythmic percussion and persistent bass. Following the final chorus, our hero is supported by a choir of harmonies as he sacrifices his own life for those he loves. The band lets the gallop of the drums from Daniel Beavington set an almost power metal vibe as the vocals from Stephen Atkey set the stage for the story of war and words of victory, which is to come.”

“Mythos” new album is the crowning achievement of Hunting Giants‘ many years of musical work, writing, and recording while gigging and enduring quarantine as a band during the Covid pandemic. The members of Hunting Giants all came from, and are influenced by elements from prog, grunge rock, and various metal bands. The album’s goal is to grab listeners and amaze them with intricate woven stories, energetic riffs, and distinctive vocals. The album is meant to be an adventure, with each track having its own flavour and setting; the songs are worlds unto themselves. All of the music on the release contribute to a listening experience that is much more than the sum of its parts. The material is an addictive encounter that will keep you coming back.

“This album is musically very diverse as it ranges from intense spine-chilling metal, down to gentle instrumental tracks peppered with melodic piano and haunting cello, all the way to epic ballads tastefully complimented by choirs, strings, and bells. Mythos lyrically explores archetypes, both heroic and villainous, that affect the world around us, as well as the inevitable fates which arise when these values are heinously held and expressed.” adds the band.

Hunting Giants is recommended for those who enjoy 90s grunge, heavy rock, and prog, especially fans of Alice In Chains, I Mother Earth, Soundgarden, Tool, and Audioslave.

HELLEVATE Release Lovecraftian Single ‘Dagon’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on December 28, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: HELLEVATE. Leave a comment

Kansas City speed/thrash band HELLEVATE is now streaming the second single off their forthcoming EP, The Purpose is Cruelty. The song, titled “Dagon,” is rooted in Lovecraftian mythos. Vocalist Robert Browne explains:

“Two of my favorite Lovecraft stories are Dagon and The Cats of Ulthar, and I always wanted to write about both. There have been multiple iterations of this song from past projects, all leading up to this finished product that you hear now. I sought to tell the whole story and convey the internal horror of the situation H.P. wrote of.

Perhaps it was fate that kept this song in the workshop until now when the subject of isolated anxiety is more familiar than ever with the public (which also lent itself to the following track on the EP). We wanted the song to be heavy and chaotic, a gradual conscious dissolution of sanity, and we accomplished that.

Don’t go exploring mysterious smelly islands”

The band joined forces with DeadRhetoric.com for the premiere of “Dagon.” Stream it now at this location.

The Purpose of Cruelty features five aggressive tracks of classic speed/thrash metal with a modern attack. A violent hybrid of East Coast and Bay Area thrash, the EP shows why HELLEVATE has been called “a new hope for thrash” (All Around Metal).

The Purpose is Cruelty will be out on January 14, 2023.

Stream the EP’s title track on Spotify.

Tracklist:
The Purpose is Cruelty
Dagon
Buried Under Mistakes
Die or Be Killed
(No) Further Action is Required

Playing melodic thrash metal with a mixture of extreme and power metal thrown in to keep listeners on their toes, HELLEVATE draws from across the spectrum of sounds to forge the most potent of heavy metal. The band was formed in the late 2000s by guitarist Dan Whitmer, and while it has experienced several lineup changes, the band has found its superior form with the addition of Zack Burke, Joshua Cole, RJ Whitmer, and new singer Robert Browne.

HELLEVATE’s debut was released in 2012 and followed up in 2014 with the EP Kill Confirmed and the album Weapons Against Their Will in 2016. Singles “Last of the Fell” and “Krampusnacht” were released in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The band’s new EP, The Purpose Is Cruelty, is the culmination of the work the band has put in up to this point. Packed with riffs across a spectrum of sounds and the razor-sharp vocals of Robert, HELLEVATE seeks to make a statement with the release.

The band has established itself by sharing the bill with many nationally touring bands, including Exodus, Kreator, Accept, Overkill, Destruction, Ghoul, Venom Inc., and Danzig, just to name a few. With a great lineup and a bright future ahead of them, HELLEVATE continues to grow as a musical force in the metal world, and intends to dominate and annihilate for many years to come.

Line-Up:

Vocals: Robert Browne
Guitars: Dan “Danowar” Whitmer
Guitars: Josh “The Boss” Cole
Bass: Zack “The Ripper” Burke
Drums: RJ “The Machine Gun” Whitmer
