No matter the day and age, progressive metal never strays from the cutting edge. ONLY HUMAN are fresh on the scene having now signed with Season of Mist. But the Danish upstarts are already on the brink of a major discovery with their inventive debut album. Planned Obsolescence pushes progressive metal in a truly forward-thinking direction while warning of our not-too-distant dystopia.

“We wanted ONLY HUMAN to be about something”, says vocalist Patrick Grønbæch Christensen, who also produced, mixed and mastered their debut album. “Planned Obsolescence is supposed to wake people up to all the ways technocracy is encroaching on society. We now live in a reality where humans are products to be consumed and disposed”.

Today, ONLY HUMAN are announcing Planned Obsolescence with a suspenseful video for the album’s lead single. “Automata” transmits a chilling message for the future, but the band’s cutting-edge fusion hits like a deep breath of fresh air.

Planned Obsolescence is out March 27th on Season of Mist. Pre-order & Pre-save: https://orcd.co/onlyhumanplannedobsolescence

Concept albums are standard procedure for metal, especially when it comes to the prog space. But when the five members of ONLY HUMAN came together via online and IRL connections, they wired the entire band’s framework around one encroaching idea. “Automata” surfs its synthetic grooves with clear command, as if by simply pressing a button. Though beneath its shining surface, the song processes the inherent danger in letting technology determine our individual thought patterns. During the music video, three thrill seekers follow guidance from their smartphone. Good times are had along the way, but tragically, they never stop to question whether it’s leading them to a dead end.

“We’ve offloaded critical thought”, Christensen explains. “We’re not really doing things because we want to do them. It’s because an algorithm has decided that’s what we should do”.

Planned Obsolescence is fueled by existential dread. Like a virus, electronic beats hack into the hard drive of “Automata”, much in the same way that technology continues to creep into our everyday lives. But that doesn’t mean that the album leaves us without hope. There’s nothing broken, outmoded or dated about ONLY HUMAN. When main-frame shaking riffs reduce the song to digital ash, their message rings out loud and clear. “Defy and learn to walk again”.

“When the world is going badly, the reason is because people gave up”, says Christensen. “Things aren’t hopeless. We can absolutely fight back. Hopefully, this album gets people to think about valuing humanity over profit”.

Despite evolving with greater speed and scope than other corners of the metal archives, progressive metal never strays from the cutting edge. ONLY HUMAN are fresh on the scene, having signed with Season of Mist at the beginning of 2026 ahead of an appearance at this year’s Sweden Rock Festival. But the Danish band are already on the brink of a major discovery with their debut album. With Planned Obsolescence, they’ve invented an existential form of prog metal that warns of our not-too-distant dystopia.

“The album is supposed to wake people up to all the ways technocracy is encroaching on society”, says vocalist Patrick Grønbæch Christensen. “Tech companies often design their products to have an expiration date, so that we’re forced to replace them with the newest model. Through our social media and the adoption of influencer culture, we now live in a reality where humans are products to be consumed and disposed”.

ONLY HUMAN were assembled through online and IRL connections. The band started in 2022 with Christensen on both guitar and vocals and drummer Andreas Pröll. The two were soon joined by bassist Guillaume Blanjean. As their music grew in scope and became more ambitious, they decided to recruit additional guitarists. Martin Hastrup and JaCK Kijne joined in 2024, just as Planned Obsolescence was starting to take shape.

All five members of ONLY HUMAN are brought together by a vast host of shared interests. The band’s name comes from a pivotal scene in The Matrix. Other late ‘90s totems — from drum ‘n’ bass to Linkin Park and Opeth — twisted together with the modern-day influence of TesseracT, Periphery and Bring Me The Horizon to inform their collective DNA. But from the very beginning, they were determined to deviate from the norm.

“We like a lot of bands that just play rock music, but we wanted ONLY HUMAN to be about something”, Christensen says. “We’re interested in creating a musical universe that portrays a future on the brink of collapse”.

Planned Obsolescence reckons with technology’s increasingly hostile takeover. One of the first songs that ONLY HUMAN wrote together, lead single “Automata” expands from a scrolling syncopated rhythms into mainframe-shaking grooves, as the surrounding world narrows in on itself. “We’ve offloaded critical thought”, says Christensen, who also took on all phases of the production process. “We’re not really doing things because we want to do them. It’s because an algorithm has decided that’s what we should do”. Brain rot might be the silent killer for today’s digital age, but the steady intrusion of beats, blips and synthetic patches into the album’s song wiring imitates how corporate greed and invasive technologies fight to control our day-to-day existence. Like a virus, “Techno Fascist” emerges unsuspectingly before it comes crashing down amidst a turbulent stream of low-tuned chugs.

ONLY HUMAN’s vision for the future verges on apocalyptic. “Breach” closes the album by looking past the point of no return. Amidst its crushing despair, even the song’s glowing keys appear like a comet bound for Earth. But while fueled by existential dread, Planned Obsolescence isn’t void of hope. After all, there’s nothing broken, outmoded or dated about this new band. Unlike the attempts of artificial intelligence, their fusion of prog, djent, hard rock and electronic soundscapes is the product of much care and hard work. They had to tinker with several different versions before “Steep Descent” finally reached its climactic bridge. “Cast your flame beyond this bleak reality”, Christensen beckons as dizzying melodies and a stellar guitar solo propel him and his bandmates into the next stratosphere.

“When the world is going badly, the reason is because people gave up”, Christensen concludes. “Things aren’t hopeless. We can absolutely fight back. Hopefully, this album gets people to think about valuing humanity over profit”.

RAIVO JACKSON to Release Debut Album “Tangled Up in Roots” on February 13th

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: RAIVO JACKSON. Leave a comment

Hailing from Finland, Raivo Jackson has released their roots-driven debut album Tangled Up in Roots. Built on carefully balanced elements of americana, melancholy, and storytelling, the album forms a Nordic noir–inspired whole where wistful beauty and powerful, evocative atmospheres go hand in hand. The band’s musical palette stretches from country and folk to soul, psychedelia, and rock.

The listener is guided through apocalyptic visions, satire, and the rawness of human relationships to reflect on the world and the people within it. The album explores themes such as polarization, social exclusion, pyromania, and drowning.

Tangled Up in Roots is now available on streaming services. All three singles released from the album have attracted attention in music-focused media and have been added to several radio playlists. The vinyl edition of the album will be released on February 13 and is currently available for pre-order at Record Shop X.

On Tangled Up in Roots, the band’s dynamics, arrangements, and interplay rise to a new level. The recording process forged Raivo Jackson into a tightly knit unit, with each member contributing their own distinct personality to the whole. Singer and songwriter Saska engages listeners with a unique approach and a clear, expressive voice. Lap steel guitarist Jussi brings his highly regarded roots expertise to the sound, guitarist Tommi adds precise and expressive accents, while the rhythm section formed by Mikko and Otto plays with intuitive cohesion built on years of shared experience.

Raivo Jackson’s story began 15 years ago as Saska’s one-man project in London. After Saska later moved to Helsinki, the project evolved into a permanent band.

Musically, Tangled Up in Roots marks a significant step forward for Raivo Jackson. At the same time, the album’s creation has been a communal process, with the band’s close circle contributing to visual art, music recording, marketing, and live performances—making years of work tangible and audible.

About SEVENDUST:
For over three decades, SEVENDUST have made countless fans feel a part of something special. The group’s community isn’t passive. Members of the “7D Army” make a very active commitment to being part of this family—as evinced by sold-out shows worldwide and innumerable tattoos of the band’s logo and lyrics. Since 1994, the iconic Atlanta quintet have quietly built a legacy without parallel, encompassing sales of nearly eight million albums, a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Metal Performance,” three Top 15 entries on the Billboard 200, hundreds of millions of streams, and the fierce loyalty of millions of listeners in every corner of the globe. Along the way, they’ve shined as an outlier equally comfortable on tracks with either members of Deftones, Creed, and Periphery or Xzibit and Daughtry. V13 spotlighted it with a cover story, Consequence hailed the music as “hard-hitting,” and Guitar World marveled at how, “more than 25 years after releasing their gold-selling self-titled debut, SEVENDUST‘s music still has plenty of bite.” Speaking to their longevity, they notably notched their biggest radio success to date with “Everything” in 2024, netting a career-high entry on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. However, the guys really delivered for their diehard base with 2026’s ONE (Napalm Records). SEVENDUST’s 15th full-length LP forges ten simultaneously lean and gut-punching tracks out of gargantuan riffs, seismic grooves, and signature soul-stirring hooks. Rallying together around a common goal as bandmates and brothers, Lajon Witherspoon (vocals), Clint Lowery (lead guitar, backing vocals), John Connolly (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Vince Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums) have crafted a body of work that both day-one devotees and new fans alike can hold onto forever.

THUNDERMOTHER Announce New Live Album “Live’n’Alive”, Out April 17th

Swedish rock’n’roll powerhouse THUNDERMOTHER is set to unleash their thrilling first live album, Live’n’Alive. Their first album in collaboration with Napalm Records is out digitally on April 17, 2026!

Founded in 2009 by guitarist Filippa Nässil, the band is known for their electrifying rock anthems and relentless touring – live highlights include supporting the legendary Scorpions both in North America and Europe, playing the KISS Kruise and performing regularly at major festivals such as Wacken Open Air. In 2025, THUNDERMOTHER unleashed their highly acclaimed sixth album Dirty & Divine, which hit the top 2 on the Official German Rock/Metal Charts. Following that first release with the new lineup consisting of Filippa Nässil, vocalist Linnéa Vikström Egg, returning bass player Majsan Lindberg, and drummer Joan Massing, was a European headline tour, during which Live’n’Alive was recorded – this hefty 19-track offering showcases THUNDERMOTHER’s explosive live energy through their 2025 setlist.

Along with the announcement comes the first groovy single. The new live version of “Whatever” was recorded during THUNDERMOTHER’s show in Gothenburg in October of 2025, during the second leg of their “Dirty & Divine Tour”. Originally released on their self-titled third album, Thundermother (2018), this track is a fresh take on one of the band’s biggest anthems. Fans get to dive into the energetic performance with an accompanying live video. Additionally, “Loud and Free – Live in Cologne” (Black and Gold, 2022) and “Speaking Of The Devil – Live in Huskvarna” (Dirty & Divine, 2025) are also available to stream now.

Filippa Nässil about “Whatever – Live in Gothenburg”:
“‘Whatever’ is dear to our hearts, as it’s a song we’ve played at every gig since its release in 2018. It’s one of my all-time favorite songs to perform. The live version differs from the studio recording, featuring a longer, four-on-the-floor guitar solo. The war against drugs continues—you don’t need drugs to be rock ’n’ roll, but you DO need adrenaline!”

With no backing tracks, overdubs or re-recording of instruments, Live’n’Alive makes no compromises. This is THUNDERMOTHER – 100% live, 100% rock’n’roll! Live’n’Alive will be available as a digital album first – stay tuned for physical formats!

Filippa Nässil about Live’n’Alive:
“It’s all live. We use no backing tracks like almost every band does today. We have made no overdubs or re-recording of instruments. It’s ALL live and rock’n’roll. Me on guitar, Majsan Lindberg on bass, Joan Massing on drums, and Linnéa Vikström on lead vox and rhythm guitars on some songs. Song order is not compromised, it’s our setlist of 2025, through and through. Hell yeah, this is how it’s done.”

Pre-Save Live’n’Alive NOW

Live’n’Alive cuts through the band’s catalogue, delivering high-energy live versions that encapsulate the band’s true rock’n’roll spirit, from powerful reimaginings of classic THUNDERMOTHER hits to newer tunes. Anthemic opening track “Can you feel it – Live in Cologne” (originally from the newest studio offering) kicks the album right off, followed by equally energetic “Loud and Free – Live in Cologne” (from Black and Gold, 2022 – #6 on the Official German Album Charts!). Further highlights include the groovy “Whatever – Live in Gothenburg” (originally from the 2018 album Thundermother) as well as the catchy “Speaking Of The Devil – Live in Huskvarna” (from the 2025 album). THUNDERMOTHER wraps the album up impactfully with a new version of their biggest hit “Driving In Style – Live in Huskvarna”, originally from the 2020 success record Heat Wave (#6 on the Official German Album Charts).

OZZY Tribute Album “Iron Man’s Anthem” Out February 13th

Cover art by Captain Maoos

Iron Man’s Anthem: A Tribute to Ozzy brings together bands from across Europe and the United States to pay respect to one of the most influential voices in heavy music. Released by Witching Buzz, the compilation traces Ozzy Osbourne’s impact from the earliest Black Sabbath years through key moments of his solo career, using interpretation rather than imitation. The album will be released on February 13, 2026.

The artists involved do not aim for faithful reproductions. Instead, each track filters a classic song through the band’s own sound, background, and era, resulting in versions that feel personal, rough-edged, and alive. The selection moves from early Sabbath staples recorded at the dawn of heavy metal to later material that shaped generations of musicians well beyond the genre’s original boundaries.

This is a release made by musicians who grew up with these songs and chose to respond in their own voice, on their own terms.
